Canon IXUS 400 / Powershot S400

Does the camera connector support the Canon IXUS 400 / Powershot S400?
I bought a camera connector, and when I try to Photo Import, my Ipod shows just a blank screen.
Please advise. Thanks!

I have occasional problems with my ixus 700. iPhoto sometimes (quite often) crashes just at the end of importing photos.
Also, canon names their cameras differently in the states. I think you'll find this is your camera: http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=SupportDetailAct&fcategoryid=223 &modelid=8777
It's the Powershot s400

  • Canon Ixus 400 now crashes iPhoto 5

I used to be able to seemlessly plug in my Ixus 400 Canon and iPhoto opened and imported the photos. Since version 5 all sorts of problems have occured: sometimes the camera isn't seen at all; when it is recognised it crashes after a couple of pictures. I have tried using ImageCapture - this works - eventually, after lots of plugging in camera, restarts etc and at least lets me get the files out.
Mostly though I have having to resort to mounting the camera card and importing them that way.
Any one else similar experience? Canon web site appears to have no help at all (US site doesn't even know the camera name!).

  • Camera connector and Canon Ixus 50 (Powershot SD400)

Has anybody had success using the camera connector and a Canon Ixus 50, aka Powershot SD400. I'm using a 40Gb ipod photo and when connected together the ipod just says 'connecting'and does nothing else.
I've also read in other posts that you have to navigate to a photo import menu - I don't have, well at least I don't have until the camera connector is plugged in, then it finds the hidden menu and trys to connect automatically.
    Is this the normal way?
The software on the Ipod is 1.2.1 (latest available)
The camera uses PTP and has USB2 output.
I recently changed the Ipod to windows format, as i want to use it for data storage while i go travelling for a year, and also to store my photos, and thought the camera connector would allow this, but as yet, no cigar.....
Any help would be much appreciated

  • How to handle 30.00 fps mov-files shot with a Canon Ixus?

What's the best way to edit this material you think? What project settings should i use? Should i convert the fps somehow to 24 fps or 29.97 fps?

    Juri,
Like you I own a Canon Ixus and I agree with you that they produce good enough video for the web. And why not be able to edit all material in your fine adobe product, after all you paid for it.
I have managed to solve this issue by installing the Morgan mjpeg codec.
I downloaded it from www.free-codecs.com/download/Morgan_M-JPEG_Codec.htm where can also find the link to purchase the full version if you should need. (don't know the limitations in the "demo")
I'm using kaspersky anti-virus and I could not detect any suspicious code in the mjpeg installation file however of course you download at your own risk.
Personally I haven't tested it extensively but so far import, edit, and export to mp4 has worked fine.
To edit, create a new sequence, click general and set it up as follows:
    timebase: 30 frames/second.
    Frame size 640 by 480
    Fields: No fields, progressive scan
    Display format: 30fps timecode
    Sample rate:
Actually not sure, the ixus produces 11024Hz 88 kb/s Mono which is not available as a preset, so I've just set it to whatever sample rate other timelines in the same project uses. 48000Hz works fine for me, that's all I know.
    Preview file format:
I've left this on what was the default; "I-Frame Only MPEG"
These settings work fine so far, provided that I have installed the Morgan mjpeg codec.
Hope this is of help to you.

  • Canon IXUS 950 won't import large AVI files into iPhoto

The new canon Ixus 950 IS wont import large (over 50mb) AVI files in iPhoto, why not?
They sit on the SD card and then sometimes subsequent pics and video's don't upload.
If there are say, 3 x 40mb files they dont upload either... After waiting ages the box pops up, unable to import.
I can individually import the AVI files under 50mb
I also note that the hard drive icon for the camera does not appear on the desktop or the finder so I could not 'drag' them in either...
    Any ideas?
    David

I have a similar problem with importing large AVIs from my Canon A610. iPhoto would import everything else (usually) except the large AVIs, which it claims is unreadable. In this particular case (~470MB file), it plays in QuickTime, I've resaved it using QT (still won't import) and converted it from MJPEG to Cinepak (still won't import). I'm now considering cutting the AVI up into smaller chunks and importing those... but any other options before that?
Misc computer details: Main HD is 120GB with 30 for Boot Camp, 80 remains for Mac OS X, but the iPhoto Library is on an external HD (also 120GB, same model as internal HD except not SATA) formatted to FAT32. Would 10.4.11 make a difference here?

  • Iphoto 6.0.5 no longer recognizes canon ixus 50

    Hi,
I am unsure whether this is the right forum, but it seemed to be the best match.
I've been using my canon ixus 50 with iphoto 6.0.5 and tiger 10.4.8 with all updates installed on an intel c2d imac with much joy.
One day it just stopped working, however. The camera is recognized in system profiler's usb menu, but iPhoto fails to see it, as does image capture, no matter how many times I turn it on, off, pull the usb cable, etc. It's very frustrating and I have no idea what has caused it. It may have been the latest security update as it definately didn't work after that one, but that may just have been a coincidence.
Any advice? I should mention that the camera still works fine using gphoto2 on my linux x86 machine, so I don't think it's the camera or cabling.
    Sincerely,
    -Kenneth Straarup

    Hi,
I just tried out parallels and winxp to see if that would properly detect the camera (to try and rule out hardware defects). Upon selecting the camera from the usb menu parallels responded that the device was being hogged by another application.
I'm guessing this is the reason iphoto or image capture doesn't detect it as well. Now I just wonder what I could do to find out what application that is...
    Sincerely,
    -Kenneth Straarup

  • I can't import video from my canon ixus 700...help

The first time I plugged my new canon ixus 700 into my powerpook G4 all the photos and videos from the camera were imported with no problem. Since then, I have been unable to import my movies from the camera but the pictures import with no problem. I also can't find a place on my computer to "browse" my cameras contents. I'd appreciate any help anyone could give me.
    Heber

    Hi Heber,
How big are the video clips?
Canon cameras do not mount as a volume on your hard drive. You can insert the card into a media reader and that will mount so you can browse the contents.
Try Image Capture to download just the video clips. I prefer that method and it is what I do. I like keeping my video clips in my Movies folder for easy backup to disc.
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
    Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
Using Image Capture to download just the video clips for your camera:
After you have downloaded the images from your camera into iPhoto, Open Image Capture and it will detect your camera. choose to download some, then in the next window, scroll to find the video clips and choose them to download. They will download into the Movies folder.

  • Which is the better lens for wildlife, sport action canon 70-200 is usm ii series L or Canon 100-400

Which would be a better for wildlife and sport action Canon 70-200  mm is usm ii serie L f/2.8 or Canon 100-400 mm f/4.5-5.6?

On what camera? It makes a big difference depending upon whether you are using full frame or a crop camera.
Also depends upon the particular sports and type of wildlife most commonly involved, how much reach you might need.  Outdoor, daytime sports vs indoor and nightime sports is another key factor.
On a crop camera a 70-200 is generally a lot more usable than it is on full frame, for sports and wildlife. An f2.8 lens and 70-200 might be ideal for indoor sports even with a crop camera. It also might be plenty for large game that can be pretty closely approacted. But for small and more shy wildlife, sports on a  larger playing field, you'll more likely need the 100-400. But as an f4.5-5.6 lens that's going to be more of a daytime-only lens.
The 100-400mm is unusual in that it's a push/pull zoom. This can be particularly fast to use and makes the lens popular among photograhers shooting fast moving subjects such as birds in flight and air shows.
If you give serious consideration to the 70-200/2.8 IS II in combination with teleconverter EF 2X III, I'd suggest renting and trying them toghether first. The reason is that a stronger 2X teleconverter has more effect on image quality than a weaker TC. The specific combination of the 70-200 Mark II lens and the 2X Mark III TC is pretty darned good.... better than the combo earlier versions of each item.  But whether or not it's up to your expectastions is a judgment call only you can make. So it might be wise to rent before you buy, just to be sure.
If instead you start to take a hard look at the 100-400mm, once again you might want to rent it and give it a try. Some people really like the push/pull zoom design. Some don't. (I'm one of the latter...  but to be fair this is largely an old  prejudice from trying to use that type of zoom in the past, long before IS. I always found push-pull zooms hard to get a steady shot with.... But the 100-400's IS goes a long way toward solving that problem.)
And those two really aren't your only choices.
Personally I use a pair of crop cameras (7D), most of the time one fitted with a 70-200, and the other fitted with a 300/4 IS, sometimes in combination with an EF 1.4X II teleconverter. Or, when I don't need to be mobile and can set up a tripod, I'll use a 300/2.8 IS, both by itself and with EF 1.4X II or 2X II teleconverters.
Another possibility is two lower cost lenses... such as a 70-200/4 IS in combination with a third party lens such as the Sigma 120-400 OS or 150-500 OS. Those lenses are considerably less expensive than the 70-200/2.8 II and the 100-400, respectively. You might be able to afford both and still find they meet your needs very well.
I use the 70-200/4 IS, as well as a copy of the first version of the 70-200/2.8 IS, and they are excellent lenses too. No doubt about it, the 70-200/2.8 IS Mark II is top of the heap and exceptionally good... but rest assured those other 70-200s are no slouches.
If using a full frame camera, for large field sports and more distant, smaller wildlife.... better start saving up. You're going to need one or two of the super telephotos, such as the new EF 200-400/4L IS 1.4X that I'm saving up for!
p.s. By the way, if not already doing so you might want to try Back Button Focusing. It's a very popular technique among sports/action and wildlife photographers. I've been using it for years for virtually everything I shoot, and can't imagine using any other method now.

  • Why my iPhoto STOP launching when I plug in my Canon IXUS 800IS

    Hello all.
This *used to be fine* until recently when I finished shooting some photos and when I plug in my Canon IXUS 800 (same camera), *iPhoto did not launch automatically*. And when I launch it, inside, *the camera does not appear*, instead, there is an 'Apple iPod' and says nothing to import.
Turning on/off the camera, launching/quitting iPhoto in which ever order, doesn't seem to help, *seem only a restart can help*.
    *What's going on here?*
    Thanks

Hi Terence, thanks for replying, your pointers are worth "further investigating and experimenting"
    1. Have not tired whether plugging in the camera would launch iTunes; 'Cause I have my iPods already in their docks, so they will launch iTunes (anyway)
    2. Card Reader - Now this is interesting. Prior to my first "failed" attempt at this whole thing, my dad actually asked me to import photos from his digital camera, but we used a card reader instead, and when plug in, it launched iPhoto, and the card reader was read as the model of my dad's camera
Now could this have somehow "confused" my iPhoto?
    3. There is still an 'Apple iPod' mounted in iPhoto whenever I launch it, regardless whether I plug in any camera. Could this be the iPod touch that I have?
    Thanks and cheers

  • Canon EF 400/5.6 Lens Profile

My copy of LR4 does not have a profile for the Canon EF 400/5.6. There is one for the EF 400/4 IS DO and the EF 400/2.8 IS, but not for the 400/5.6. Does that mean that this lens doesn't need any corrections or just that nobody bothers?

If you download the free Lens Profile Creater from Adobe Labs, it comes with a Lens Profile Downloader where you can download user-created profiles. You can get it here: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/lensprofile_creator.html
There are currently several profiles for the 400/5.6 with and without a Teleconverter available.
    All lenses need corrections...

  • IPhoto & Image Capture don't detect Canon Ixus 850 IS in one identity

So, bear with me on this one, it's a long saga:
Canon Ixus 850is doesn't appear as a device to have photos imported from one identity on my iMac, but does work on others.
Symptom: Plug in the camera and it doesn't "switch" into computer mode (preview screen goes blank, card reader light flashing. It does this in another identity on the same computer. System profiler shows it connected to the USB port. Image capture -> Browse Devices shows the camera, but it's not "connected".
    Things I've Tried:
    PRAM reset
    Permission repair multiple times
Removing all the user's start up items
clicking "connect" in Image Capture -> Browse Devices (nothing happens)
    new USB cable
different camera -> I take this to mean it's not the camera's problem, but the mac. Another canon isus (different model) has the same problem.
    iPhoto library rebuild
    Removing image capture preference files
    Multiple restarts
All software is up to date (OSX 10.5.7 & iPhoto 8.0.3)
    Reinstalling canon software
I'm at a total loss. Any ideas (except for using a memory card reader
    Thanks!

  • Ipod Video 30g & Canon Ixus 750 Digital Camera

    Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has any experience using the Ipod camera Connector with a Canon Ixus 750 digital camera - am about to buy the ipod video 30g and this is a must for travelling overseas for downloading photos.
If it does work (apple site doesn't list it as 'supported') where do the picture files end up - in a folder on the ipod accesible when youi connect to usb on my g4 powerbook?
    Any info would be appreciated

    Rick,
I have had no problem with a Rebel XT and the 60gb Video iPod.
There are a limited number of card readers which will also work according to this site:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPodCameraConnector
I have no first hand knowledge if they will also work the the video iPod as that list was generated for the 4G iPods.
There are several threads on the pro and cons of using the iPod as a digital wallet at the media and storage forum on DPreview. Do a search on "iPod"
