Canon IXUS 950 won't import large AVI files into iPhoto

The new canon Ixus 950 IS wont import large (over 50mb) AVI files in iPhoto, why not?
They sit on the SD card and then sometimes subsequent pics and video's don't upload.
If there are say, 3 x 40mb files they dont upload either... After waiting ages the box pops up, unable to import.
I can individually import the AVI files under 50mb
I also note that the hard drive icon for the camera does not appear on the desktop or the finder so I could not 'drag' them in either...
Any ideas?
David

I have a similar problem with importing large AVIs from my Canon A610. iPhoto would import everything else (usually) except the large AVIs, which it claims is unreadable. In this particular case (~470MB file), it plays in QuickTime, I've resaved it using QT (still won't import) and converted it from MJPEG to Cinepak (still won't import). I'm now considering cutting the AVI up into smaller chunks and importing those... but any other options before that?
Misc computer details: Main HD is 120GB with 30 for Boot Camp, 80 remains for Mac OS X, but the iPhoto Library is on an external HD (also 120GB, same model as internal HD except not SATA) formatted to FAT32. Would 10.4.11 make a difference here?

  • Problem import large avi-files into iMovie '11

I have a large AVI-file, DV, from an old video camera that I want to import to iMove '11. The file is 10,37 GB but when I import it to iMovie only a few scenes is visible. Also, iMovie says the file is 4,71 GB.
How do I import the whole file?
    Thanks
    /Torbjörn

If you can convert the AVI movie back on the PC to Quicktime, this would be your best option.  AVI files are limited to 4GB in size.  To get around this limit, the AVI file might be referencing other smaller files on the PC.  The AVI file format has been pretty much abandoned by Microsoft which now uses the WMV format.

  • Is there a way to import large XML files into HANA efficiently are their any data services provided to do this?

    1. Is there a way to import large XML files into HANA efficiently?
    2. Will it process it node by node or the entire file at a time?
    3. Are there any data services provided to do this?
This for a project use case i also have an requirement to process bulk XML files, suggest me to accomplish this task

    Hi Patrick,
I am addressing the similar issue. "Getting data from huge XMLs into Hana."
Using Odata services can we handle huge data (i.e create schema/load into Hana) On-the-fly ?
    In my scenario,
I get a folder of different complex XML files which are to be loaded into Hana database.
Then I gotta transform & cleanse the data.
Can I use oData services to transform and cleanse the data ?
If so, how can I create oData services dynamically ?
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • How can I import a .AVI file into my project?

I want to import a .AVI file into my video project but Final Cut Pro will not import it. Final Cut says the file is not recognized but it plays with Quicktime.

Do you get the warning "Media files are not optimized for FCP. Either recapture the media or use Media Manager to crate new copies of the files to improve performance for multi-stream playback."?
    What does this mean?
I can import and edit the files no problem either, except for that waring, which concerns me.
It means you will not be able to use the multiclip feature with these files because your Macintosh is working very hard to decode them on the fly. More than one stream will choke your machine.
Your AVIs are visible in FCP because you happen to have acquired an AVI file that uses a codec you have available on your machine.
AVI isn't even supported by Microsoft; it's been a totally concatenated delivery wrapper for more than a decade. It only survives because of entrenchment.
Use Get INfo on one of your AVI clips, figure out what codec was used, use Google to find out what you can about the codec, and decide how you want to proceed. You want to determine what your output is going to be and work backwards from that decision. For instance, if you're going to distribute a standard MPEG2 DVD, you want to edit using conventional DV. Transcode you AVI files to DV using Compressor.
Your easiest solution will be to edit on a PC that does handles the AVI natively or to contact whoever gae you the files and demand they provide you with clips you can edit on a Macintosh.

  • Can't Import large .avi file from digital camera into iPhoto 08

I have a digital camera with a 4GB SD card. I was shooting video and have several small .avi files on the card and one large .avi file (2.67 GB) on the same card. I did not have a problem importing the small files. iPhoto hung while trying to import the large file. I read in this forum that I should use Image Capture, which I tried. When I used Image Capture on the smaller files (just to see how it worked), my camera would flash while it was transferring. When I tried Image Capture on the large file, the camera did not flash and after about 20 minutes, there didn't seem to be anything going on with the transfer. I also tried an old card reader through Image Capture, and that didn't work either. Should Image Capture be able to handle this size file? Do you know of any way to break up the large file into smaller files on the SD card? What am I missing? Thanks!

Canon's cameras do not mount on the Desktop. It's a 'feature' of the brand.
There are several possibilities for Image Capture - including minor directory damage on the card etc. The only solution is get the card to mount, and that means a recent Card Reader.

  • Imported .avi files into iPhoto 09 (8.12) but they can't be viewed.  What to do ?

Found a discontinued camera (over eight years old( with built-in memory, similar to a GoPro.   Attached it via USB and it mounted as a drive.  Copied over both jpg and avi files, then imported into iPhoto 09.  From within iPhoto, the jpg's can be viewed of course, but the .avi files give the usual flag that Quicktime cannot read the avi.
The .avi files can easy be viewed by VLC Player outside of iPhoto.
Downloaded and installed Flip4Mac, but still iPhoto doesn't allow launching of the avi files from within iPhoto.
Is this failure because the iPhoto needs to be updated ?  What can be done to view the avi files in iPhoto ?
    Thank you.

Check to see what version of Quicktime Player you have installed on your Mac.  If it's later that V7 download and install version QuickTime Player 7 for Mac OS X v10.6.3 or later and try again.
Also you might try installing Perian.  Even though it's been discontinued it will work.

    mattyb1988,
Please post sufficient information about your AVI file so people can help solve your problem. Did you create the AVI file or get it from somewhere else? Read this page and search for "AVI" to find out more: Troubleshoot video files.
    Hope this helps.

  • Is it possible to import an avi file into iTunes?

I am trying to import in a TV show that i have downloaded as an avi file into iTunes. However when i try to import it nothing happens, if i try and change the file format into a mp4 it wont recognize it. Does anyone have any ideas?
I can not find it in any other file format anywhere online.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you

Export the OMF from an audio app like ProTools or Logic as a stereo pair AIFF, then use that with your video. Chop it up if you need to checkerboard.
Of course this will only work if the audio is very simple - overlapping audio will mess you up. If you can figure out the audio app part, you can split up your OMF into separate tracks.
But then if you can't get it into an audio app, you're a bit hosed.

  • Organizer in Photoshop Elements 9 won't import large NEF files

Photoshop Elements 9 won't import the NEF fiels from my new Nikon D800.

Yes, the camera is too new for PSE9. You will have to either:
    Upgrade to PSE11
Download the free Adobe DNG Converter Version 7.3 and use that to convert your NEFs to DNGs, and then PSE9 will be able to import them
Use the Nikon software to convert the file to TIF, then import into PSE.

  • Unable to import large AVI files

I make flash animations and then turn them into AVI files. When the avi file is bigger than 2gb, I am unable to import it to the timeline. If I then go back in flash and cut it in two and make two avi files, I can import them. I seem to be missing a codec or 2GB is the largest file I can import.
Any help on the codec question. I downloaded some codec detectors and it mentioned PCM as a codec. Any help would be appreciated.

You do not seem to be understanding what Neil said and asked
The TYPE of AVI you are creating out of Flash uses the TYPE of codec that only works to 2Gig... so, of course, your files over that size are corrupt
Using the DV AVI codec is a different TYPE of codec... which does allow files over 2Gig
Just because a file ends with .AVI does NOT mean it is the same as any other file which ends in .AVI - one example of this is that divX creates .AVI files, but they are actually a (hacked) version of the MPEG-4 codec and do not work well with Encore
You need to find out if you are able to create AVI files using a different codec

  • Issues importing AVI files into iPhoto

    Hi there,
I am trying to import the videos I've taken with my Olympus Digicam over the weekend into iPhoto but for the longer ones it doesn't work. When I select the movies to import it looks like it's doing it but then, after a while, iPhoto displays an error message stating the following:
The following file could not be imported. (The import failed.)
As already mentioned, the issues I have are with the AVI files, and they are pretty long movies...some up to 4 or 5 minutes I think.
Has anyone got an idea how I can get them to import and play in iPhoto?
    Thanks heaps.
    Nadine

    Nadine
iPhoto will baulk at importing longer movies from a camera. The trick is to copy the movies to your desktop using the Finder (if your camera appears on the desktop) or Image Capture (in your apps folder) and then importing them to iPhoto.

  • My photos won't import from my camera into iPhoto

Just recently my photos are not able to upload from my Canon camera into iPhoto, but it was working before.
When I plug the USB camera into my Mac the device shows up on the sidebar column in iphoto, it will say "Loading Photos" with the little circular waiting symbol and then it will just go to a blank grey screen.
If I try to click on any of the options under "File" or "Edit" they are all greyed out.
I'm not sure what the problem is since the camera is clearly connecting and being ready by iphoto and starting the import, but then it just stops. There are definitely pictures on the camera to import because I can view them on the camera.
Has anyone else had this problem or know how they might be able to help? Everything seems to be working except for the last step.

Can you access the imges on the card with Image Capture (in your Applications Folder) ?
I would try reformat the card with your camera.

  • ITunes won't sync the AVI files in iPhoto Library to iPod, only photos!

The AVI files in my iPhoto Library are part of the dreaded Left Behind series ... iPod style. Surely there's a way around this. Anyone?

When I send my iPhoto Library to my iPod using the iPod Sync in iTunes, I'm only trying to BACK THEM UP
Do you have "Copy full resolution photos to iPod" ticked on the Photo tab?
If not, you are simply putting a thumbnail to the iPod, not the full resolution photo, so nothing is getting "backed up".
You could simply copy the iPhoto folder to the iPod?
I would not recommend use the iPod as a backup for anything.
Get an external drive. 259GB drives are less than $100 and you can use it to make a complete bootable backup.
