Canon Legria HF M406 Compatable with imovie?

Hi!
If someone could give me some basic advice it would be very useful. I am looking at buying an HD video camera and would like it to work as seemlessly as possible with apple and iMovie. Will iMovie import video directly from a Canon Legria HF M406? My other chioce of camera is the Panasonic HDC-SD90, and as far as a i know this works well with iMovie, am i correct?
Thanks in advance,
Nina.

Above is Apple's list of compatible camcorders. The HFM41 is listed, so your camcorder should work fine.
That is, if you have iMovie 11. It records in AVCHD so if you are using Imovie 06 there would be a problem. The panasonic is also a fine camcorder.
So both camcorders seem to be ok for iMovie 09-11.
You will, of course, need to make your decision based on cost and what you are using them for. I have found that for basic uploading to the web, say YouTube, any modern camcorder pretty much works.

  • Canon Legria HF20 - Compatibility with iMovie

I have just ordered a Canon Legria HF20 camcorder. However, I have a concern.
I just checked Apple's offical list of iMovie 09 compatible camcorders, and the PAL version isn't listed as a compatible camcorder. However, the NTSC version is, which is called the Cannon Vixia HF20. I am not sure if the reason why the PAL version isn't listed is just because they haven't got around to testing it.
Can anyone confirm whether the HF20 works with iMovie? Am I safe to assume that if the NTSC version is compatible, then the PAL version will also be compatible

  • Is the Canon Legria HF M56 compatible with Final Cut Pro X

I am new to Mac and new to Final Cut Pro X. I am looking to buy a new HD Video Camcorder to use with my new computer/software and wondered whether or not the Canon Legria HF M56 is compatible with Final Cut Pro X.
If it is, do you have to import the footage directly from the Camcorder, or can you first save the files to the Mac and import them that way?
I currently use a Sony HandyCam HDR-SR10 which produces AVCHD .mts files. I have these saved on my Mac after transferring them over from my PC but Final Cut Pro X cannot import them. Very frustrating for a professional app to be unable to import these files. Even Cyberlink Power Director can use these files.
    Thanks for your help

It's not on the tested list but it may well work.

Why don't you download the trial and try it?

  • Problem with iTunes compatability with iMovie and iPhoto

I purchased some music from the iTunes music store and wanted to use that music in a homemade DVD I made. I also have tried using the purchased music when I play a slideshow in iPhoto. In both instances, an error window popped up saying that I needed to launch iTunes and authorize the computer to play the song... Well I bougth the music on the same computer and it is authorized. I typed in the authorization anyways and then after that iMovie and iPhoto both pop up with an error saying that it can't use the file.
Thinking it might just be one song file... I have tried this with many purchased song. I have had the same problem with all of the purchased songs I've tried.
Are some purchased songs not compatable with the iLife applications? How can I fix this problem? I'm running iLife 05 and I have installed all of the updates, including the most recent...
    iTunes 6.0.2
    iPhoto 5.0.4
    iMovie HD 5.0.2

Do you need to update Quicktime as well?

  • Canon Legria FS19 camcorder supported in iMovie 11?

    Hi there,
I would like to ask whether my Camcorder Canon Legria FS 19 will be among the supported cameras in iMovie 11. Because I was unable to find it among the supported cameras on the  site.
I would like to know whether it makes sense to upgrade for me or not.
    Thanks for your reply,
    Best wishes,
    LackoB

No it's not compatible. Even the camcorders that are listed as compatible (eg Legria HF20 / HF200 aren't compatible. Just do a search on 'Legria' and 'Interlacing' and you will find many tales of woe.

  • Camcorders Compatable with iMovie '09

    Good Day, All;
I'm in the market for a camcorder, and based on forums here and there I am steering away from Sony and JVC for some known problems communicating with iMovie.
As of now I have it narrowed down to a Panasonic HDCTM20K and a Cannon HF200. I see both claim to be good to go with iMovie '09, yet some people still seem to be having difficulties.
Any comments would be most appreciated.
    Cheers.

In my experience, Sony, Panasonic and Canon are all solid choices.
I prefer the SDHC card models. Some people prefer the hard disk models. Stay away from models that record to DVD.
    [Pick one off this list|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3290]
I will stay away from recommending specific models, because the last one I bought was 2 years ago.
If you see a lot of problems with Sony on the boards, that is probably an artifact of their huge market share rather than any inherent problem. In my experience, JVC and Samsung have been much more problematic, but they may be getting better.

  • Capture Canon Legria HF R26 footage with Adobe Premiere pro cs5

    Hello,
I need to capture some footage from Capture Canon Legria HF R26 using  Adobe Premiere pro cs5.
I have a usb cable with the camera. I  would like ot know if captirng via usb is a good option or if there are other better options .
    Cheers m

Premiere can not 'capture' footage from any source using a USB connection.
Capture from tape into Premiere requires a firewire connection (DV & HDV).
For your camera, you should use the USB connection to copy the media files
from the camera to your hard drive and then 'import' the footage into Premiere.

  • Is the canon vixia hf 200 compatable with a mac?

I just got a canon vixia hf 200 but can't get the computer to recognize it. I can't understand what i'm doing wrong. I wanted to be able to load my movies into imovie to edit them. I thought this camera would work with the program. can anyone help me?

That camera should work fine with iMovie 09.
Try connecting your camera with the USB cable and turning it on without iMovie open.
The camera should register as an external drive.
Otherwise you could try taking the SD card out of the camera and using the SD card slot (macbook) or a card reader.
If you get that far, create a new folder on your desktop and copy/paste your video files across from the camera/card to the new folder then eject and disconnect your camera/card.
Now open iMovie and click on File > Import > Movies... and navigate to that folder.
Here is some other info about your camera:

  • Does the Canon DC310 DVD camcorder works with iMovie '06?

I want to buy this camcorder. Will it work with iMovie '06?
    Thanks

What Karsten said and . . . . DVD cams are just about the worst choice of ANY of the various types of cam out there. A DVD is an end product, not intended to be edited at all. Shoot the movies this afternoon on the DVD cam and play it back tonight on the TV.
You need to do some homework about your software and camcorders and what will make life a whole lot easier for you. HINT - a miniDV cam with Firewire.

  • Camcorder Compatibility with iMovie

I didn't really know where to post this, but i heard this type of computer is good for video editing, so . . .
I'm looking for a computer to use for only video editing, I have a Hitachi dz hs300a camcorder, and i wanted to know if this type of camcorder is compadible with iMovie.

I drove an 80 mile round trip today to return a Sony SR45 30 gig camcorder because it would not operate with IMovie. I looked on the list from support.apple.com and decided to buy a Panasonic SDR-H60 while I was there. I will be making the 80 mile trip again in the morning to return this one now because it won't work with IMovie either. Frustration level has peaked. This should be such a simple process.

Am I likely to see a speed increase in accessing the Airport Disk from the AppleTV/Mini if it were to be 'n' enabled.
    Yes
In other words does the fact that other Macs require a 'g' network mean that access speeds for ALL Macs is reduced to the 'lowest' level?
No not the lowest level, but using 802.11g devices on an 802.11n network does reduce the speed of n devices, but not down to g speeds.
    From my tests.
    Pure 802.11n - 802.11n speeds = 300Mbs
    802.11n with b.g - 802.11n speeds = 130Mbs

  • Canon Compatibility with iMovie and/or FCE

I recently purchased a Canon FS200, flash memory camcorder (standard def) and have some difficulties importing into iMovie (it recognizes and imports some clips but then decides to freeze-can't even force quit iMovie from that point) and FCE does not even recognize the device.
I am within the return period (purchased at Best Buy). Should I get out of this Canon situation altogether? Is there a DV brand that integrates more consistently with Apple?
I have all the updated hardware and software, processing power, and memory that are needed, so that is not the issue. I am just looking for some direction, or confirmation that this thing WILL work, I just need to keep at it.

Good, because I like the functionality of the camera, and the convenience of recording to flash media. I took a look at some possible differences between imported and non-imported files. I found only one thing, it is inconsistent. In my original attempt to import, approx. 8 of my files (clips) imported, and they ranged from 30 seconds to 8 minutes. The ninth one froze up. After a reboot (I had to resort to that) I was only able to import three files before a freeze. The fourth one (the one that had previously registered as imported) now froze. Both "freezing" culprit clips were of average size compared to the rest. I am not sure about audio settings because I do not adjust anything that complex when recording.
THEN, I tried to use FCE to import the same clips. FCE does not even detect my camera.
I did try to unplug all other external devices too. No luck.
I have never installed any drivers for the camera. It seemed to work for a little, before this freezing behavior. Is there typically software needed to simply import to a app like iMovie or FCE? I didn't think so, but really cannot think of another troubleshooting angle.

  • USB compatibility with iMovie next version

Do you think, that Apple will developped an new iMovie version, USB compatible ?

Pensez-vous qu'Apple sorte une nouvelle version d'iMovie compatible avec le montage vidéo en USB ?

  • Sony DCR-TRV70 Compatibility with IMovie HD

When I bought the Sony DV camcorder it was on the comaptible list from Apple. It is not now. With the supplied USB cable my Imac / IMovie HD does not recognize the camera. Has anyone had luck connecting this camcorder to Imovie HD?

You need to buy a Firewire cable, 4-pin to 6-pin. Sony calls them i.Link. USB is just for stills.
