  • Import video from CANON LEGRIA HF R18 into adobe premiere elements

    Hallo,
I have a MAC and I don't know how I have to set the project to import videos from my camera.
    Thanks

    jazzandogospelsinger64
As a first pass at this I would transfer the video from the camera to the computer hard drive and from there import that into Premiere Elements 10 Mac with Premiere Elements 10 Mac Get Media/Files and Folder. Under the circumstances your Premiere Elements 10 will perform as a 32 bit application running in the 32 bit compatibility mode of the Mac 64 bit with the limitations of 32 bit. I am an Elements Windows user, but the principles and suggestions that I am about to make should be applicable to your situation. I have gone off track with any Mac specific details be sure to say so. The 32 bit business means that Premiere Elements 10 Mac will not be able to take advantage of all the 64 bit resources as would be the case if you had Premiere Elements 11 Mac running in a Mac 64 bit operating system.
Your Canon HF-R18 FXP would be highest quality 1920 x 1080 with a bitrate of 17 Mbps (megabits per second). I need to confirm if you are recording interlaced video 1920 x 1080 (50i) or 1920 x 1080 p25 (in the progressive mode). From what I have read your audio is Dolby Digital Stereo.
    If 1920 x 1080 (50i, aka 25 interlaced frames per second), then use the Premiere Elements 10 project preset = PAL/AVCHD/Full HD1080i25.
    If 1920 x 1080 (25p, 25 progressive frames per second), then use the Premiere Elements 10 project preset = PAL/DSLR/1080p/DSLR 1080p25.
In either circumstance, when you drag the file from the Media area to the Timeline, do you see a colored line over that content on the Timeline? You should not be seeing a colored line over this content if we have the correct project preset selected. But remember that, each time after you edit that video, it is normal for a red line to appear over it. That is the program telling you that you need to render the Timeline content, one way by pressing the Enter key of the computer main keyboard to get the best possible preview. When the rendering is complete, the red line will turn green. Thereafter, only a red/green indicator system (with all its implications) will exist for letting you know if the program thinks that you are seeing the best possible preview. No more non colored line choice, just red (need) and green (not needed). When you are in the no colored line or green situation, pressing the Enter key will just get you playback of the file in the monitor - no rendering available.
See what that looks like on the Timeline at playback there.
Let us start there and be ready for the next phase "How do I want to export that Timeline?" with all the details associated with that phase to get the best results.
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thanks.

  • When I open a new project what format do I use with clips from Canon Legria (1440x1080)?

I have Premiere Pro CS 5.5 and a Canon Legria HF S100 digital video camera. My frames are 1440x 1080.  I have a widescreen Sony tv on which I want to play my video when it has been edited and burnt.
When I opened a new project in Premiere Pro I set it as follows:
    Editing Mode: DV Pal
    DV Pal Widescreen 23 KHZ
Pixel aspect D1/DV Pal Widescreen 16:9
However, I burnt the sequence as an experiment and lost lots due to cropping in the final version.
I used to have Premiere Elements. If memory served I set it as  AVCD Full HD 1080i. I had no problems. I tried the AVCD 1080i setting on Premiere Pro but this didn't work either. I still got cropping.
Which settings are adviseable to ensure I can see the full clip on screen when it has been burnt? In addition, what is the difference between Anamoprhic and square pixels?
Sorry for banal questions. I got Premiere Pro because I was frustrated with Elements constantly crashing. I have to confess to being totally bewildered by the techinical information that I've read.

Best is to edit in HD and export to SD.
You need the AVCHD 1080i 25 Anamorfic.
Or drag a clip into the New Item icon which will give you a matching sequence for your footage.

  • Premiere elements reads my SD Card but not the hard drive of my Canon Legria?

    Kia Ora from New Zealand,
I am using Premiere elements 8.0 and a Canon Legria HF S10 on a pc with Windows XP Pro.  I am trying to import HD footage directly into Premiere from my Camera hard drive.  In Premiere when I try to "get media" the media on the camera's sd card appears and can be imported, but the cameras hard drive is not acknowledged - so I can't get the video off the cameras hard drive.
The format of the footage on the sd card is XP+ and the footage on my cameras hard drive is MXP.  I have a work around where I dump the hard drive footage onto my pc then pull it into Premiere..but there is limitations with this (I cannot differentiate between takes and therefore see which clips to import).  Can anybody shed some light on this for me?  Should Premiere be able to locate my cameras hard drive?
    Thanks Al

    Thanks Steve,
I use the preset PAL AVCHD Full HD 1028 i25, Im using premiere elements 8.0.
The differentiate between takes thing is...I was hoping to see thumbnails of the video clips before importing them into Premiere (like the ones that show up from my sd card), so as to not import unnecessary footage.  When pulling them from Get Media/From Files and Folders the files are just numbers, which means I have to delete all unwanted clips on the camcorder or know the names of them so as to not pull them onto the computer.
Eventually I will be exporting the projects in a number of different ways, mainly web video file sharing and DVD.
Ideally my computer will read the cameras hard drive, I am astonished it picks up the memory card that sits inside the cam without linking to the cams hard drive.  Could this be about the quality of the footage (the SD card footage is in XP+ and the hard drive footage is MXP?

  • Is the Canon Legria HF M56 compatible with Final Cut Pro X

I am new to Mac and new to Final Cut Pro X. I am looking to buy a new HD Video Camcorder to use with my new computer/software and wondered whether or not the Canon Legria HF M56 is compatible with Final Cut Pro X.
If it is, do you have to import the footage directly from the Camcorder, or can you first save the files to the Mac and import them that way?
I currently use a Sony HandyCam HDR-SR10 which produces AVCHD .mts files. I have these saved on my Mac after transferring them over from my PC but Final Cut Pro X cannot import them. Very frustrating for a professional app to be unable to import these files. Even Cyberlink Power Director can use these files.
    Thanks for your help

It's not on the tested list but it may well work.

  • Import from Canon Legria HR200 to iMovie11

When I connect camcorder CANON Legria HF200 through USB in PC connect mode, it is not possible to use "Import from camera" to import video files from camcorder Canon Legria HF200 iMovie 11 because only Insight camera appears. Canon Legria HF200 is recognized as USB external device. I use 32GB SDHC card FAT32 format. The same result is when I put the card in SD reader, or when I copy the folder to HDD. What am I doing wrong?

Hook up the usb cable to the camera with the camera in "play" mode. Then plug the other end of the usb into your computer. The screen on your camera should then ask to what do you want connect the camera. Choose "computer/printer." Then boot iMovie and press import. Most likely if iMovie then asks you which clips you wish to import, everything should work.
However, you are correct - the camera is not listed as a supported camera.

Is the importing seamless or do you have to transcode via a 3rd party app? Any info/feedback from user experiance would be greatly appreciated.

  • Canon Legria HF R26 camcorder compatability?

I have a Canon Legria HF R26 camcorder bought especially to video my nephew's wedding in Italy last June, and my daughter's wedding 2 weeks ago. I have only, just now, tried to download the footage and have discovered that it's not compatible with my MacBook Pro with iLife '09. It seems that even iLife '11 wouldn't recognise it. Has anyone any suggestions as to how I can download the footage?

I've just got it working! All I did differntly was plug the USB cable into the camera once it was on and already plugged into the computer. It is currently downloading the images. Phew!

  • How to enable WiFi transfer from Canon Legria HF M52 to iMac

My iMac is a late 2012 model with Mountain Lion (v. 10.8.3).
Recently I bought a Canon Legria HF M52 camcorder which is WiFi enabled, and is capable of transferring videos (AVCHD/MP4) wireless. The camera package included software for WiFi transfer on Windows PC, but not for Mac. However, still, according to the instruction manual, it should be possible to transfer files wireless to Mac using the Mac as a FTP server. Though, following the instruction manual, I`m still not being able to transfer files from my camera to my Mac.
    1. I know for a fact that the camera is correctly connected to the WiFi network, as I`ve managed to transfer files onto a friend´s Windows PC.
    2. Video files are easily transferred to Mac using the USB cable (but the CABLE is what I want to avoid), both AVCHD/MP4.
    3. Since Mountain Lion no longer has the option to enable/activate FTP server under "System Preferences/Sharing", I have enabled FTP via "Terminal" as described in this link; http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4704.
    4. Camera setup:
         - Use iMac IP address as "FTP server", 192.xxx.x.x (dynamic IP, so it is changed in camera setup if IP address is changed upon iMac reboot).
         - Port 21 (as dictated by the camera`s instruction manual).
         - Username / password as for the iMac admin account.
         - Destination folder; /User/Movies
    5. I have verified connectivity from MBA to iMac connecting via IP address / username and password.
Still, when I try to transfer files from the camera, I get an error message while attempting to connect to the iMac; "An error occured during FTP communication. File transfer was not completed". Have made several attempts to reboot both iMac and camera.
Any tips on how to enable my iMac to receive video files wireless?

I guess those programs are intented for outgoing connections, not incoming connections?
Well, anyways, I managed to solve the problem. Just summing up in case others meet the same problem:
    - Went to Apple Store and bought/installed "OS X Server".
    - Followed the install wizard for the OS X Server.
    - Under "FTP" in OS X Server, turned "On".
    - Under sys prefs/sharing; make sure "Sharing" is activated (which already had been done in my case).
    - Add folder, e.g. "Movies", and enable "read/write" for "everybody" (already done in my case).
    - Back to the OS X Server; changed share to "Movies".
(you can change share options in OS X Server as well, the same way as under sys prefs.).
    - Now over to the Canon camcorder;
         - Use the IP address for the Mac as the FTP server. Port 21.
         - Set up username/password as for the Mac admin account (not sure if required though).
         - Target folder just set to "/" (files transferred directly to "Movies").
With this setup, both AVCHD/MP4 movies were transferred easily to my mac.

  • Help needed: How to import video from Canon Legria Camcorder FS306?

    Dear all,
After happily purchasing Canon Legria Camcorder FS306, I realise that my IMOVIE HD could not detect the camcorder when connected to my Macbook pro.
    Have 2 questions here:
    1. Is it impossible for IMovie HD to detect newer camcorders? Should I then upgrade to IMOVIE09?
    2. Currently, Canon Legria Camcorder FS306 is not listed as 1 of the supported camcorders for IMOVIE09. It is one of the newer models. Is IMOVIE09 able to import video from this camcorder now? Or in the near future? Or it may never be supported?
    Tks!
    Gam

You would need imovie 09 to use this camcorder.
This camcorder is not on the iMovie 09 supported list. However, every Canon camcorder since 2008 has supported iMovie 08 and 09, so odds are good that this one will, too. Odds are good that it works right now. IF you want to know for sure, call Canon. ....or take your camera to an Apple Store and hook it up.
It might be possible to do some manual conversions and continue to use iMovie 6. For example, you could try converting the MPEG2 files to DV using a tool like MPEG Streamclip. You would also need the $20 Apple QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component. I find iMovie 09 to be a much better editor, but if you are comfortable with iMovie 06, this might be worth a try for you.

  • Capturing with Premiere Pro CS5 & Canon Legria HV40

    Hello everyone,
I have an issue trying to capture footage from my Canon Legria HV40. My desktop operates with Windows 7 / 64bit and I use a firewire port when attempting to capture from the DV cassette on the Canon Legria HV40. After opening Premiere Pro 5 (not a trial version) I connect my camera via all the correct ports and open the capture window in the software. After setting up all my preferences for the capturing process the software recognises the camera and I am able to operate the camera from my desktop (fast forward, rewind, play etc...).
The issue starts at this point. When i press "Tape" or "Play" then "Record" to start the capturing process the camera kicks into action. However the software does not record anything from the camera.
Does anyone have any suggestions or have they come accross this issue before. Any help would be appreciated.

    MKoffy Hi,
It works just fine here, same set up, but with CS5.5.2 not older version.(5.5.1 or 5.5 did not work), other contributers spoke of a "LEGACY" driver?, I think Harm Millard he may know more than I do. We are PAL, the camera obviously works, make sure you  have camera set at 1920 x 1080 i.And the same setting in PP, however PP should automatcally set that for you.
In fact when Exporting to Tape it is amazing and starts the camera with out having the record button executed., it (the HV40 is Anamorphic at 1440 x 1080 (the limitation for Pro tape) and will record at Progressive, the pixels are rectangle not 1.0  , but the output is i). Do not save clips to another DRIVE.It is best in the RAID set up. according to Canon Specs it records at HDV 1080/50i , 1080/25i (PAL) These settings must match the set up in Premiere Pro 5.5.2 exactly.I do not set  IN or Out points, it might have been a good thing to stripe the tape in the first place as it will recognise the Indexing numbering better that way.
I must add the quality of the Export even to Blu-ray astounded me. Nearly as good as the Canon 5D Mark II 1920 x 1080p but, that was from a CF card.
    Good luck
Ps. Frankly the Premiere Pro CS5.5.2 surprised me when it recognises all that when it went to work. Because when you used Premiere Pro 1.5.1 everthing was manual, well nearly.

  • Issue with Canon Legria HF20 and iMovie 09

I am having an issue with using the Canon Legria HF20 (which is the PAL version of the Canon Vixia HF20) with iMovie 09, and I am trying to confirm whether other people experience the issue.
I recently purchased the video camera, and while I am having no issues shooting in 25p, I am having an issue with 50i. When I shoot in 50i and import into iMovie at 'Full-Original Size" the footage displays with a horizontal interlaced combing effect, whereby if the camera moves left or right, horizontal lines appear, which causes the edges of things to look jagged. This is difficult to see in the small preview box, but is easy to see if you preview in full screen. I have been told that this shouldn’t occur as iMovie should recognise that the footage is interlaced and adjust the footage when being previewed (thanks Steve Mullen for confirming that). Again, there is no problem with shooting in 25p.
This link has an example I found on the internet of what I am seeing: http://media.photobucket.com/image/deinterlace%20video/jlatenight/deinterlace.jp g
Also, when I export the footage from iMovie using 'Export using Quicktime' at either 1080i or 720p, the footage remains interlaced even though I have selected 'Deinterlace Source Video'
So far I have been unable to get to the bottom of this issue. I have spoken to Apple and they are saying that while the Canon Vixia HF20 (NTSC Version) is on the official list of cameras supported by iMovie, the Canon Legria (PAL Version) isn’t, although they couldn’t say whether this could have something to do with the issue I am having.
Therefore, I was wondering if anyone could confirm whether they have experienced this issue. Can you please confirm that you are using the Legria version and not the Vixia version of the Camera.
I would really appreciate your help.

Well, it seems to me that it looks the same. I am not an expert here, but it occurs to me that you can either shoot in 25p or de-interlace it from 50i. I think it gives the same quality but the latter is more complicated unless you have the Final Cut.
Here I got an intersting link on that matter:

  • Canon Legria FS19 camcorder supported in iMovie 11?

    Hi there,
I would like to ask whether my Camcorder Canon Legria FS 19 will be among the supported cameras in iMovie 11. Because I was unable to find it among the supported cameras on the  site.
I would like to know whether it makes sense to upgrade for me or not.
    Thanks for your reply,
    Best wishes,

No it's not compatible. Even the camcorders that are listed as compatible (eg Legria HF20 / HF200 aren't compatible. Just do a search on 'Legria' and 'Interlacing' and you will find many tales of woe.
