Canon LIDE 20 scanner - halfway through scan, crashes

Using Leopard clean install, the scanner was working through the past week.
Now, when I get about half way through the scan, it gives this message:
Cannot communicate with scanner
Cable may be disconnected
Check Status
Scanner driver will be closed
I tried everything. Rebooting. Disconnecting and reconnecting cables. Reinstalling Canon driver software.
The point is, the software works but cuts of at the 39% of the scan.
Any ideas?
I already had to buy a new laserprinter, because the old one (HP Laserjet 1000 didn't work under Leopard, when it worked under Tiger). Now, I am not relishing the idea of getting a new scanner just to use Leopard.

I got the following answer from other threads, and Canon's website. Essentially, I have to wait till Canon comes out with a new driver. Which is a pain since I use the scanner for my business work. It is really funny how, during this disaster period of installing Leopard, my old Windows XP computer has become a safe haven of "just working". Windows XP -- it just works. No longer can Apple lay claim to that phrase.
FAQs
Do I need to update my drivers to support Mac OS X v.10.5 (Leopard)?
Canon's answer:
Only the following scanner models are supported in Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard):
4400F, 8400F, 8600F, 8800F, 9950F, LiDE 25, LiDE 35, LiDE 60, LiDE 70, LiDE 90, LiDE 500F, LiDE 600F
The current Mac OS X driver download for the above models will function in Mac OS X v.10.5. However, it is recommended that you check our Download Library periodically for updated drivers.

  • Acrobat 9 Standard won't recognize Canon Lide 200 Scanner

My recently installed Acrobat 9 Standard won't recognize my  Canon Lide 200 scanner even though Adobe Photoshop CS2 does.  I don't know what the problem is and how to solve it.

Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 was recently installed on new Vista 64bit computer and functions with all programs and even prints to my Dell 1600n printer, but when I try to scan from the printer, it causes this error message and shuts Acrobat down:
"ADOBE ACROBAT HAS STOPED WORKING A Problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I have lived with this since I bought the computer a month ago. Still no solution from Adobe and no response to an email that I sent to adobe support.

  • No driver for Canon Lide 80 scanner?

I recently bought a Mac Mini with Lion installed to replace my old Windows PC and upgraded my late 2009 Imac to Lion to be able to use iCloud between my UK base and my second home in France. Everything went well until I realised that neither my Canon Lide 80 scanner or my Canoscan 4400F wwould work with Lion. I am waiting for a responsse from Canon but, meanwhile, any ideas for a workaround? My trusty old HP 920C printer is recognised as a generic printer and works fine but, it seems, there are no generic scanner drivers.

Thank you John. Vuescan worked for my Canoscan 4400F but, in fact, led me back to Canon support where the driver and toolbox, formerly unavailable, had been updated to my scanner. A very satisfying solution.

  • Canon Lide 60 Scanner does not work on Mountain Lion

Hi! Is anybody out there who would know how my good old Canon Lide 60 would work with OSX 10.8? Canon says Mountain Lion ist not supported on this device. Anyone an idea what to do without buying a new one? Thank you!

I also was looking for a working driver for ML 10.8
i bought a new canon scanner Lide 110 it's working perfect.
I tried my old scanner( Canon Lide 60) or it should work with this installed canon driver
i'am surprised my old scanner, lide 60  is working min Ml 10.8.4
photoloader does not recognise it. But Vuescan does. i use Vuescan 9.2.21
so the Lide 110 software works on 10.8 en higher for the Lide 60

  • Cannot get Canon LIDE 220 Scanner to work with Acrobat XI Pro, Acrobat will not let scanner add pages to existing PDFs

    Hi
I have recently purchased a Canon Scanner LIDE 220 for my new PC which has Windows 8.1 64-bit and ADOBE ACROBAT XI Professional.
I NEED to be able to open PDF documents and add pages by using the scanner, but the scanner is not being accepted by ACROBAT. I get messages that there is no scanner connected or no driver installed. I have uploaded Canon's latest drivers for the scanner but when I try to get Acrobat to accept the scanner it says the scanner will not accept presets.
    I need some help!!
    Thanks
    Andy White

    Andy,
Some scanners do not support presets, so when you choose an unsupported scanner from the pop-up menu, a dialog stating "This scanner does not support presets" appears. Have you tried scanning using Custom Scan through File > Create PDF from Scanner > Custom Scan..?
    Thanks

I trid locating a driver or any downloadabl softwear online and was unable to find anything. The Canon site just says that my OS maynot need the driver, bout my compute wont even open the scanner and the CD that came with the scanner, that is now 10 years old, wont open on my mac. Any advice or help would be apprciated.

  • Cant get Canon Lide 50 Scanner Driver to install

Am trying to connect my new imac with OS X 4.2.8 with a Canon scanner which had previously worked well on a windows pc. Have downloaded softwear from Canon but it will not open/run and I get an error message 10660. Is there a compatability issue here

Thanks for your suggestion re Stuffit. Have used this and - yes the files were compressed - did not appreciate Tiger did not come with an expander so had to download. In any even unfortunately despite all this scanner still not working. When trying to open driver am told there is no file associated with it and scanner is not responding. Canon tool box will fire up but will not scan and scanner is not starting up when connected to usb although mac recognises it is plugged in. So the problem seems to be that the driver is installed but it does not know what it is there for and the scanner does not have a driver associated - any thoughts much appreciated

  • I dont find my Canon Lide 50 scanner on my MacBook pro.

How can I find a driver for my CannoScan Lide 50 to use with my MacBook Pro?

What happens when you do a Spotlight Search for Mail? If it finds it, click to open Mail and then right click (control + click) the icon and select Keep In Dock.

  • Universal Scanning Program for canon lide 30 (older scanner

i have a canon canoscan lide 30 scanner. the drivers and toolbox are not supported with leopard. you can get it to work but theres alot of work arounds , turning off permissions on folders etc. so i was wondering does anyone know of either a free program or a inexpensive one, that i could use my canon lide 30 scanner with. i tried the program vuescan, cost 40 but wanted to see all my options cause i'm done with trying to make canon drivers and programs works
    thanks

Elements 2 should work in 10.4.6. Install PE, then download an install the latest driver for your scanner. (Elements (any version) is not scanning software on its own--it's just that many scanner manufacturers include a PS/PE plug-in for convenience.)

  • Can't get Canon Lide Scanner to work in PSE 10

I just belatedly upgraded to Snow Leopard... and got my PSE 6 to run without freezing by using a suggestion posted by Barbara B. ("Photoshop Elements for Snow Leopard") - deleting the Adobe Twain Driver.  My Canon Lide 80 scanner always worked smoothly in PSE 6 in Snow Leopard, but PSE 6 was crashing prior to removing the Adobe Twain plug-in.  Since I had not upgraded PSE in a while, I decided to download the trial of PSE 10 and put it through its paces before I purchased.
The first thing that I did was move the driver, ScanGear CS 7.2X into the import module as I had done in previous versions of PSE.  The next thing that I did was make sure that Rosetta was loaded onto my operating system.  I believe that with this new system Rosetta is automatically employed without having to put a check in the box as was with the case in Leopard, because there is no box to check, and the Apple care tech told me that it would run as needed.  When I boot up PSE 10, I receive the message, "One or more plug-ins is currently not available on your system...", the system info states that it failed to load and the ScanGear CS 7.2X plug-in does not show up as a choice for inporting.
This is a great scanner, so I am unwilling to dump it, PSE 6 works if worse comes to worse, but I would like to upgrade to PSE 10.  I am currently running on OS X 10.6.8.
    Does anyone have a solution?

    Barbara B. wrote:
You must go into Applications>PSE  10>optional plug-ins>ImportModules, and move the TWAIN plugin into Plug-ins>Import Modules before you can scan with any scanner. However, if you must have rosetta to scan, you will not be able to scan into PSE 8,9, or 10, no matter whether Rosetta is installed on your mac or not. There is no longer any support for Rosetta in PSE since PSE 8 came out. In that case, you can either use Scan Gear or get a newer scanner, if there's no intel-native plugin on canon's download page for your model.
Thank you for answering me so quickly, Barbara B.
It is interesting to note that there is no longer any support for Rosetta in PSE since PSE 8.  That really explains the problem.  The optics of my scanner are really good and the scanner really does work well in the "right' software.
I did as you instructed: moved the TWAIN plugin from Optional plug-in>ImportModules to Plug-ins>ImportModules, and restarted the computer.  Then I rebooted PSE 10.  The TWAIN import did not load... does not even show up in as there but unloaded.
Any ideas?  Could this be because I am using a trial version?

  • Canon Lide 80 - not working after 10.5.8 update

    Hi,
Wondered if anyone has a workaround for getting a Canon Lide 80 scanner to scan using Photoshop Elements 6, it worked in OS X v10.5.7 previously as I copied the latest ScanGear CS 7.2X plugin into the Photoshop Elements plug-in folder then ran Elements through Rosetta and it scanned with no problems however this now does not work.
The plug-in is still selectable when using PSE6 but I get the following message "The necessary file could be missing or damaged, or the settings are incorrect. Reinstall the scanner driver. Scanner driver will be closed"
I have made sure I have the latest plug-in but to no avail. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    Andrew

Can't speak specifically to Photoshop Elements, but my LiDE 80 works fine on 10.5.8 using both Canon's CanoScan application as well as VueScan, both of which use the same plug-in architecture as Photoshop.
This is on a MacBook (Santa Rosa) after updating to Leopard 10.5.8 (it was previously running 10.5.4, where the scanner also worked).
I am using the latest ScanGear driver and CanoScan Toolbox installs from Canon's US support website, where the
filenames are LiDE80_7252MXEN.dmg and CSTb4130MXE.dmg respectively (the Canon site shows an update date of July '09, but in actuality none of the files have been updated since 2005).
I didn't do anything special -- the scanner continued working normally after the system update.
What I'd try is remove the driver (just to be safe, download & use Canon's driver removal utility from the same download page), search & nuke any files called Scangear on the machine (I'd also remove CanoScan if you have it installed), then reinstall from scratch.

  • LiDE 200 "scanner driver is not installed" error

I am struggling on a MacBook Pro to restore functionality of a Canon LiDE 200 scanner after it mysteriously began returning the error message:
The scanner driver supported by this software is not installed. Install again and then retry.
The error first appeared under 10.5.8. Troubleshooting that I've attempted:
Downloading new versions of driver (1482) and MP Navigator EX (2.04) from Canon's website
Downloading Apple's Canon printer drivers version 2.3
Logging in as a "test user" and attempting to scan through the Canon application as well as Image Capture.
    No luck
I then loaded that software onto a different laptop computer, which is running 10.6.3. The scanner works fine.
So I returned to the MacBook Pro and updated it with 10.6.3 (using a simple update to the software, rather than remove and replace etc), then loaded all the Canon software once again. Still getting the same error.
Next I opened the Canon application on my second laptop and inspected the processes in Activity Monitor to find every active file, which I then carefully deleted from the MacBook Pro. I also deleted all preferences that I could find. Then, again, I re-loaded the Canon and Apple software and updates. Still getting the error message.
    Stumped.

    Hello Doug,
I also have a LiDE200 and based on your recent findings I have been checking my user Library for files relating to the scanner, however there does not appear to be anything.
Under the root Library there is the Image Capture folder and inside is the Devices folder which has the Canon IJScanner plugin. This is the ICA plugin which is used by Image Capture and Preview. Also inside the Image Capture folder is the TWAIN Data Sources folder, which houses the LiDE200.ds file that is used by TWAIN applications, such as MP Navigator.
These are the two scanner driver resources and with their location they are available to all users. So with only the admin user account having the error there must be something within the admin library but I haven't been able to find what that could be.
Have you ever had a different model of Canon scanner or even another brand of scanner previously? I know that with a previous Canon scanner that used the CanoScan application, there was a plugin for responding to the buttons being pressed on the scanner. If this application and associated files have been brought across to the new install with you user library, then this may be causing the conflict.
I'll keep poking around today and reply with more if I find anything.

  • Problems with using Canon LiDE 210 and OSX 10.7.4

I am getting nowhere with installing the Canon LiDE 210 scanner software on my 2010 MBP. All I get when I try to scan is "insufficient memory". I can scan using Image Capture and with the trial VueScan software so the problem looks as if it is something to do with the Canon software or the way that it installs on the MBP. Has anyone else had a similar problem or can anyone suggest a fix? Many thanks

Hellooo, I realise this thread is a year old and yet I'm having some real difficulty, hopefully this will fall on someones ears...
Firstly I have a mac mini bought recently and running on Mountain Lion 10.8.3 I tried downloading what is apparently the most up to date drvier and mp navigator for use with the CanoScan LiDE 210 meaning, that both the driver and mp navigator are compatible with Mountain Lion. Here is the following link I used that was forwarded to me by Canon:
    http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/contents/ASIA/EN/0100434402.html
    http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/contents/ASIA/EN/0200153502.html
I install both of the downloads, plug in the scanner, and nothing... no noise, no beep nothing to say that it is on. I try and open the scanner through system preferences-printer/scanner-canoscan icon yet I am then presented with the message; "failed to open a session on this device"
Strange, I call canon back and they do not know what else to suggest apart from all the usual trouble shooting, the type that is very patronising and annoying... did you click the icon and press scan, did you click the install button after downloading the software... the sort of thing that might otherwise result in the beating, of ones own face with the phone
At the end of this call, and after forwarding me a couple more useless links to unworkable downloads they say that it must be the product, and that I should contact the seller for a replacement.
So I do, I contact Amazon, I get my replacement and voila, exactly the same problem.
I even try getting it going using my mbp which is on snow leopard, which means I can use the installation disc that it is packed with it, it makes a noise, it sounds like its turning on but then when I click "open scanner" ... nothing, no option to scan, no acknowledgement of the device other than the icon itself in system preferences.
Does anyone have any experience of this issue, does anyone know how I might resolve it?
    Many thanks,
    Jeff

  • Canon Lide 30 Trouble Fix

Wanted to share this solution as we COULD NOT scan to Image Capture or Canoscan Toolbox 5, on Leopard, with our old Canon Lide 30 scanner.
We did find an old version of Canoscan Toolbox X (4.1.3) and IT WORKED like a charm with Leopard. We scanned 100 photos into JPEGs using the toolbox alone.
Don't know where you can find a scan of toolbox x 4.1.3 online, but if I find it, I'll addend a link.

Thank you so much. Several topics that came up when I googled the scanner declared that Canon Lide 30 with MacOS 10x was a dead-end trip. Following are more explicit instructions for newer Mac users.
    1) make sure that users have read/write permissions in Macintosh HD/Library/CFMSupport (find this folder and command-I it to change permissions) Found this tidbit on another website.
    2) download the Canon scan toolbox http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/16292&mode=feedback&vid=84900
    3) unstuff it. You might need to download StuffitExpander to do this.
    http://my.smithmicro.com/mac/stuffitexpander/download.html
    4) Finish the Canon toolbox installation
    5) Download the most recent driver for Lide 30 from Canon's website. (this might change so log on yourself.)
I did not try the latest version of toolbox after I corrected the read/write permissions so, perhaps, Canon has fixed this. Who knows?
I have been able to scan everything I have wanted so far. Thanks again.
BTW: I changed to the iMac from HP & Vista because I was unable to use much of my computer investments after my XP system was stolen. I have been able to use my Palm Zire 71, my Canon Lide 30 scanner, a plethora of software unsupported on Vista. So far everything has been either directly on the iMac or supported via VMFusion and XP on the iMac. Truly an awesome experience.

  • Canon lide 210 not recognized in yosemite. Latest driver downloaded

Since upgrading from Mavericks to Yosemite (10.10.1) I have lost capability with my Canon Lide 210 scanner and Jam XT bluetooth wireless speaker.
I have downloaded and installed the latest Canon driver to no avail. Any ideas? Both were working great before I upgraded to Yosemite.

The scanner driver file is installed in HD > Library > Image Capture > TWAIN Data Sources. Here you will see the LiDE210.ds file. This package file contains information used by the scanner and removing the scanner entry in Print & Scan does not remove this file. You could trash this file (make sure you remove the entry from Print & Scan first) and then run the v17.7.1 scanner driver installer again.
If MP Navigator still fails it could actually be this application rather than the scanner driver at fault. Note that Image Capture uses a different driver called an ICA. So to test that the TWAIN scanner driver is okay you would need a TWAIN compatible application. And one such application is VueScan. Install this and see if you can scan without any error. If you can then it indicates the issue is with MP Navigator. If VueScan also fails then you do have a scanner driver issue.
