Canon MF4270 won't print after reinstall.

I've had this Canon MF4270 for years now. It's been connected directly to an old iMac via USB and working fine. Today I installed a receipt-scanner that asked to be installed directly to the computer via USB, and so the Canon lost its spot and was moved to a USB hub. Afterwards, even restoring the printer's original USB connection, I can no longer print!
Hardware
Canon MF4270 connected via USB to an iMac. Over the course of the trouble-shooting, I've plugged the Canon back into the original connection—direct to the back of the iMac. (The new scanner is now replacing an inkjet printer.) So, the hardware setup for the Canon should be identical to what it has been previously. The iMac is a "20-inch Late 2006" model.
Software
During trouble-shooting, I downloaded the latest UFRII (v2.3) drivers and installed them, so that may have been a change. (I didn't check what version was installed previously.) The iMac is running OS X 10.7.3.
I guess I don't have a methodological trouble-shooting plan, but so far I've, of course, turned the printer off and on, checked the cables, restarted the iMac, and reinstalled the drivers. I don't know how to uninstall everything, so I haven't been able to really do a clean uninstall/reinstall cycle.
If anyone can offer some advice, I'd sincerely appreciate it!
Oh, and for what it's worth, the error message thrown is:
Canon UFR II Printer Driver
An error occurred.: -50
I don't see why I should lose 50 points just because the printer driver has had an error! ;-)
Thanks!
-Vijay

Hello Vijay,
I don't have the MF4270 but I have used the same UFR2 driver with our imageRUNNER copiers. Reading through your post I would like to suggest some things.
The UFR2 Guide says that for USB and simplex network connections, the Device Settings tab replaces the Printer Info tab. Since you don't have either button, the guide then says that if the tab is not displayed, the printer is not turned on. Now obviously it is turned on but there is a problem communicating with the printer. So I would say that either the printer queue has not installed correctly or there is a fault with the printer.
To make sure the printer is okay I would delete the current printer queue and connect the MF to the iMac USB. If you can print via USB then you could take the next step and connect the MF to the iMac's ethernet port using the same cable. You will have to manually set an IP address in the MF, probably something like 10.0.1.10 and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. You will also have to set an address for the iMac ethernet port, since it sounds like you are only using wireless at the moment. Try 10.0.1.5 and 255.255.255.0.
With the new addresses set, try adding the printer again, by selecting More Printers > Canon IP (UFR2). If the printer is communicating correctly, the correct driver should be selected and you should be able to print without the 'Data Error'.
If it does work via the directly connected ethernet, then you know the MF is okay and we can concentrate on the network connection via the Airport. Which model of Airport do you have?
As for the second menu showing all zeroes, I think this is what the machine does. Our iR1022iF which is a very similar model shows the same thing when DHCP is used.

  • Canon ip6600D Won't Print

Brand new Canon ip6600D won't print through iPhoto, specifically print job tries to print but after approx. 10 seconds of trying it defaults to "job stopped." Prints fine through Web browser and all other apps. Are there hidden iPhoto printing prefs somewhere that can be deleted? Previously had a Canon i990 printer and never had a problem with it. Thanks for any suggestions.

    Aaron:
All I can think of is to remove the Canon print drivers and then reinstall them. You might go to Canon's site to see if there is a newer driver than what you've got. Also run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions. You might try that first.
If neither help I would run OnyX and clean out both the user and system caches. Your first restart afterward will be slower but will get back to normal on subsequent restarts.

  • Canon iP8500 won't print OSX 10.6.3 apps

My Canon iP8500 won't print OSX 10.6.3 apps, it causes them to crash. It crashes Safari, Mail, Text Edit. Other apps (Excel, Word) print fine. I've updates to the new driver (10.30.3.0) to no avail. Any suggestions?

Try opening Disk Utility, selecting the OS X partition and then pressing Repair Disk Permissions.
You could also try opening Print & Fax, moving your mouse over the Printers list, and while holding down the Control key, click your mouse. This will make the Reset printing system pop-up appear. Select this and restart your Mac. This action will delete your printer queues but not your printer driver. So you will just need to open Print & Fax again and add the iP8500.

  • Pixma won't print after scanning via USB

My Pixma MG3200 series wireless printer was working fine until I had to scan something. Learned that it won't scan via wireless, so I attached the USB cable that came with the machine, scanned, then removed the cable. Have not been able to print wirelessly since then.
I did find that it was marked to use the printer offline (which matched the message I was getting), so I removed that checkmark. Still no printing. I restarted my laptop and it now says Printer Ready. Still no printing, but it now pops up with Printer Not Responding, and of course all it says in the Print Queue is Error - no explanation or link to assistance. Help!

    Hi opus88,
The PIXMA MG3222 can scan wirelessly over your network, however, the IJ Network Scanner Selector EX will need to be running on your computer, and the printer will need to be selected in that program.
We recommend reinstalling the drivers and software for the printer from the Canon USA website to get your printer back online.  The following link will take you to the initial download page for your PIXMA MG3222:
PIXMA MG3222 Drivers and Software page
Once on the initial download page for your model, please do the following:
    1.  Verify that the operating system detected in the "OPERATING SYSTEM" drop-down menu is correct, and if it is not, please click the drop-down menu to select your operating system.
    2.  Next, please click on the red arrow next to the "RECOMMENDED FOR YOU" section and click the MINI MASTER SETUP file.  When you do, another page will appear giving details of the file you are about to download will appear.
    3.  Please scroll down on the Details page and agree to the terms of the disclaimer message to continue with the download process by clicking on the "I AGREE - BEGIN DOWNLOAD" button.  After clicking the "I AGREE - BEGIN DOWNLOAD" button, follow the instructions to download and install the driver.  The time for the download process may vary depending on the speed of your Internet connection and the size of the file being downloaded.
Once you have downloaded the drivers for the printer, please follow the steps above to download the Quick Menu and My Image Garden software for the printer.  Next, please click the red arrow next to the SOFTWARE section on the webpage to display and download the other software for the printer.
If you are unable to scan wirelessly after reinstalling the drivers and software, you may need to select the printer in the IJ Network Scanner Selector EX and IJ Scan Utility programs.  To do this, please follow the steps located at the link below:
    PIXMA MG3222 Network Scan Settings
    Hope this helps!

  • Canon MF4270 having trouble printing

Hi. I just bought a new Canon MF4270 multifunction printer. It's connected via USB to my Windows computer and by ethernet to my router. Printing from the Windows computer works great by either USB or ethernet, but it doesn't work quite as well on my mac.
If I connect the mac to the printer with the USB cable then it's fine, but my macbook usually isn't near the printer so I'd rather use the network connection. But when I try printing a multi-page document from my mac via the network it takes more than a minute for the first page to come out (as opposed to about 10 seconds from the Windows machine (with either USB or ethernet) or when the mac is connected by USB), then it sits there thinking for a few minutes (I'm guessing that it's processing the next page(s) ), then it just stops and doesn't print any other pages.
I followed all the instructions in the manual when setting up this printer, so I don't know what's wrong. Anyone got any ideas?
    -Eric

We (me and my wife) bought a Canon MF4270 today. Since she has a PC and I have a Mac we elected to set the printer up as a network printer (I gave it a fixed IP address). Therefore the USB connection is not being used at all (the printer is not connected directly to any computer - access is only through the network).
The printer had a setup CD that came with it, and it worked perfectly for the two PCs that she uses in her office.
The problem came when I tried to get my Mac to talk to it. Since the PCs can print to it with no problem we KNOW that it is connected properly and responding to network access/traffic. In fact, when I try to access the printer via my browser, the printer responds perfectly.
The REAL problem is getting my Mac's printer system to recognize the driver software. I started by installing the UFRII version 170 software, and the installer claims that the software was properly installed. But when I try to setup the printer in the printer control panel, I set up an IP printer and supply the IP address the printer is set for, but when I try to select the driver, I choose Canon, and the list of canon drivers shows up, and although other Canon models show up in the list, the MF4270 is not in the list.
I then went back to the Canon web site and saw they had a Fax driver for the printer, so I downloaded it (it's version 210) and installed it. When I go to setup the printer again, the FAX driver shows up, just as it should, but the PRINT drivers are still not in the list. Although I don't expect to use it to fax docs from my computer i finished the FAX setup anyway, and gave it a try, and it shows up in my available printers and responds exactly as it should. But that's fine for Faxing, but does NOT let you print.
I then did a search on the internet, and saw that there was an older version of the PRINT driver, version 161, so I downloaded it, uninstalled version 170, and installed version 161. Same thing - the PRINT driver doesn't show up in the list during setup (but the FAX drivers are still there).
So I uninstalled version 161, and uninstalled the fax drivers (version 210), shut the computer down, restarted it, tried another printer setup, and now the Fax drivers are missing (as they should be since I uninstalled them) and the PRINT drivers are not showing up either (as they should be) .... and then I reinstalled version 170 PRINT drivers. (of course the install process made me restart the computer) ... and when I tried to perform a setup, the PRINT drivers still don't show up in the list of Canon printers.
I even found an alternate source for the version 170 drivers (that had a different file name - o84benx.dmg) and uninstalled the previous drivers and tried installing from this file - it said the install was successful - but they still don't show up in the setup list.
I'm running an intel iMac with OSX 10.4.11 on it (the computer won't run 10.5 - long story, so I won't go into that now - so switching to 10.5 is not an option)
    The short summary is:
    - the computer CAN talk to the printer via a browser (so we know that the wiring/address/access IS working)
    - the FAX drivers DO show up and I can complete a setup using them and they work properly
    - the PRINT drivers are not being listed as available printer models in the setup printer list, no matter whether I use version 161 or version 170
By the way, during all the installing/uninstalling I was doing I was looking in ~/library/printers/canon and the UFRII folder was being added or removed properly (depending on whether the drivers were supposed to be installed or uninstalled at the moment) - so even when the drivers were not showing up during the setup process, they WERE installed in the printers folder where they should be.
At this point, I'm stumped. I can't think of anything else to try.
Also, I tried going to CUPS and there is no driver there for the MF4270 (in fact - no drivers for ANY of the MF series)

Having a problem with Canon i80 which won't print. The document goes to the que but does not print. Any suggestions?

    Hi tunanut1,
Removing and reinstalling the printer on your computer may resolve the issue you are experiencing.  You can also try removing the USB cable from the printer and the computer and then reconnecting the cable to both devices to ensure that the connections are secure, or try using a different USB cable if you have one available.

  • Printer won't print after a few mnutes

Printer will consistently print just after it is turned on, but will NOT print after about 3-5 minutes. Printer goes to sleep but will wake up with a touch of the screen. If I try to turn off the printer, it often will not shut down without having to pull the plug. So, when I pull the plug and restart, if I'm quick enough, I can print. We have uninstalled and reinstalled the software both from CD and download 3 times with no luck. We have tried using the rinter wireless and with a usb cable--no difference. The printer also gets lost on my iPad and iPhone after this short amount of time too. What can I do...I am miserable! I have owned nothing but HP printers since the beginning of time!!! HELP!

    HI Kathyju,
Please check the firmware and if the firmware on the printer is older than the one mentioned in the link below, please upgrade the printer and check.
The below link provides you info on how to check the firmware of the printer. If you are not using the one mentioned in the link please upgrade to the new firmware available.

After working with mcafee for 2 hours on a server host issue they did something that got rid of the site advisor on firefox and when they tried to fix that problem they couldn't get firefox to open after reinstalling it twice!
Help...i want firefox back! i'm using internet explorer right now as my default and i've always disliked it!
    please help...brian

Do a clean (re)install and delete the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\).
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 10.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data because all profile folders will be removed.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
If that still gives problems then create a new profile.

  • Help restore network printer after reinstalling 10.10.3

I recently did a clean installation of 10.10.3, which seems to have broken my printer setup. My printer is an HP LaserJet p2055dn, connected by ethernet cable to a Linksys WRT120N router. When I set up this printer originally, I just added it in the routine way, using Bonjour. After reinstalling the OS, the printer showed up as not connected, so I deleted it and tried to re-add it. It no longer shows up for a Bonjour connection. I reset the printing system and fixed permissions with Disk Utility (a huge number of printer related permissions needed fixing). I also reinstalled the HP drivers. Nothing makes a difference.
There are three pieces to this puzzle and I don't even know how to start troubleshooting it. Is the problem at the level of my MacBook Pro? The router? The printer? I'd very much appreciate any help troubleshooting and fixing this.

Update: The printer shows up in the Add panel and allows a Bonjour connection when I connect it directly with a ethernet cable. I can also make a wireless connection using the printer's IP address. So for now I guess I'll just connect that way. Still, losing the opportunity to connect via Bonjour bugs me simply because I don't understand it.

I've tried through different apps, turning router. Ipad and printer off then on again and reset network settings on both ipad and printer but to no avail!! I can find my way around ipad basics but am no techie, so am hoping it's something simple and I'm just being blonde...or is it a flaw with the io7? Any advice much appreciated! Than you :)

    Hello Stormie9,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing when printing from your iPad.  You have taken some really good steps already to isolate and troubleshoot the issue.
I found an additional resource with a few more steps.  You can skip any steps you have already taken, but step 3 specifically stands out for the issue you described:
If you are unable to print, or if you see the message "No AirPrint Printers Found"
    Verify that the printer:
Has power and is turned on. If it has power, turn the printer off and then on again to see if that resolves the issue.
Is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the iOS device.
Has the latest firmware version installed.
Has paper with enough ink or toner installed.
Is free of any errors displayed on the printer's control panel.
If necessary, consult the printer documentation or contact the printer vendor for help with the above steps.
