Canon MP 980 help

Hi all
I am having extreme difficulty in setting up MP980 wireless.
via USB works fine
I have updated everything for SL (i think)
I have made it through to Canon IJ network tool and it fails
"The printer in the network could not be detected automatically"
I am using airport express for wireless network
I have tried several ways (by following other posts) in setting up printer manually with no luck
can somebody please help me

I have followed this step by step
when it gets to searching for printer through network

I have changed the
IP Address
Subnet
Router
to the info listed in the system preferences/internet & wireless/network
I can't find any info on what to do next.
I have followed the help menu in Canon IJ tool and am still unable to resolve

Canon ir c3220 help

ok, i'm a brand new mac newbie. i have a canon ir c3220 at my office, and i have it installed on both windows and linux machines. It is set up on the network and on both of the other operating systems i just type in it's ip address and set the right driver and away it goes. i have tried to set it up through ipp on leopard, but when it sets up and i try to print it pauses the printer. i really don't know much about this os so any help you can give would really help me. thanks.

If your iRC3220 is using the internal Canon board for printing, then this board has three queue names; LP, SPOOL and DIRECT. SPOOL will send the print job to the internal hard drive for processing. DIRECT will send the print job to the printers RAM for processing and LP will send to either hard drive or RAM, depending on the 'Use Spooler' setting in the copier.
If the copier is using the optional imagePASS print controller, which is a white metal box that sits on the back of the copier, then it also has three print queues; print, hold and direct.
Note that the above queue names are only applicable for LPD connections. If you decide to use HP Jetdirect-Socket (aka RAW Port 9100), then the queue name is not needed.

30p with a Canon XA10 - need help with Final Cut 7 "FIELD DOMINANCE" setting and an explanation of "drop frames". Thank you!!

I shot footage using a Canon XA10 and there are issues with the HD quality not looking as crisp as it should. I am trying to make sure the settings in Final Cut are right. Need help confirming what should be in "Field Dominance" --- have seen discussions about making sure it's set to "none" but I'm confused as to what to do.
Also someone suggested I use "drop frames" to change from 30p to 24p within Final Cut. He couldn't explain how to do it so any input appreciated as well as any thoughts on whether this is a good option to try.

If you're shooting 30p, field dominance should be set to none. Since you need to use log and transfer to bring this material in to fcp, I would assume it would be set correctly automatically. Are you sure you've set the camera properly?
Drop frames will not change 30 p to 24p. Dropframe timecode simply refers to the number assigned to each frame which drops an occasional number (not any frames) so the timecode duration is the actual duration, since 30p videoi is actually 29.97 frames per second which each frame assigned a timecode number.
This is very basic video stuff and requires some basic knowledge of video. Wikipedia is a pretty good resource for much of this stuff plus there are lots of great resources on the web. Look up interlaced and progressive video, 24p and 30p.
And as far as judging quality, you can only get an accurate view of the quality in fcp when you have a video card attached to a video monitor. The viewer and canvas are only an approximation of what the quality is. Minimally, set the canvas or viewer to 100% to get a better approximation of the quality.

Problem while trying to use canon lbp 3050 help me please

I have a problem while using my Canon LBP 3050 printer for my Mac OS X ver 10.6.8
I already install the programme and add new printer into my system preferences , there is a connection to the printer Canon LBP 3050 and the programme installation is working, I think because there is no warning "unsuccesfully installment" .
But when I started to print , no respon at all but the printer status monitor showed that my printing job has been done. no pending works there.
so can you help me to solve this problem?

but… there is another problem again …
why the result of the printing is just the up side. so the bottom side disappear. I already make sure that the ink is new.
I try to put it off and try again and again and… the result is still the same. print the up side only (just the first line from the whole document).

Canon 5d codec help

I shoot with a Canon 5d Mark II and want to edit the video in Final Cut Express. When I try to import the files directly out of the camera they play very jumpy and FCE wants to render them every time I place a cut on the timeline. A friend of mine suggested I use a Codec converter, but is that really the best way of doing this?
His solution was converting the files to an Apple codec and then the quick export will export it just fine without re-rendering. The problem is that exported version didn't show the transitions in my video right so I had to render it back to the H.264 (i think) codec so it would play correctly. This all seems like a long process just to get the video out. I figure there's more of you out there who shoot with the 5d and do stuff with the video. Please help me improve my workflow.

I've been looking into this exact scenario (before purchasing FCE). A videographer friend of mine told me about a free software package called MPEG Streamclip to transcode the video to pretty much anything else, since the h.264 is apparently terrible to work with!

Can't install Canon pro9000 mkII help?

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to install a Canon pro9000 mkII printer on my macbook running Mountain Lion. The printer installation disc didn't come with the drivers/software for Mountain Lion so I downloaded them from the Canon website and they installed fine.
I then went to add the printer via the normal route: System Preferences>Printer&Scan>Add. The printer shows up in the list, I select it and it tells me:
'The selected printer software is available from Apple. Click Add to download it and add this printer.'
So I do this and it connects to Apple but then I get message saying that the software is not available from the update network.
As mentioned, I have already downloaded and installed the correct drivers! Is there no way to bypass it trying to get them from Apple? I don't know where in the system to tell it to look.

.... and for me. I had similar issues with two other Canon printers (Pro9000 and MF8050Cn). It is worth saying that one *must* go the "Add printer and Scanner" window rather than selecting a 'Nearby printer". Then when a printer is selected, a complete list of avaiable drivers appears in the "Use" list.
The Mac in fact auto-installed the Mf8050Cn multifunction without any say from me! The driver it installed though was the fax driver, but no mention that it was. Still no scanner support for the Mf8050Cn (8-(#

IPhoto CRASHES when I try ti import short video shot with my Canon Rebel..HELP!!!

HELP! I have a Canon Rebel EOS T3i. I shoot many wonderful still pixs. I have also shot some video (movies) during recent cruise which I was able to download and edit properly and include it in my overall Cruise Album.
I have been editing all this on iMovie,importing the photos, videos, adding titles, effexs. etc. Suddenly -TODAY- iPhoto is not letting me shoot an additional short video to include in the Album. When I IMPORT the video from the Canon into iPhoto, and click PLAY, iPhoto CRASHES! Something is wrong and I don't know what it is.

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on eight different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary from version to version and OS to OS. So before anyone can help, they need information to work with. Things like:
- What version of iPhoto.
- What version of the Operating System.
- Details. What were you doing when the problem arose?
- Did it ever work properly?
- Are there error messages?
- What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
Anything else you can think of that might allow someone else to understand your issue.

FCE HD and a Canon HG21, please help

so i just got the wonderful Canon HG21, but i am having trouble setting it up to work with FCE HD, any that might be able to help please do.

Canon 20D workflow help

HELP! i have a new canon 20d, my first digital SLR. i love the camera, but am completely perplexed by my workflow situation. i have Photoshop, iphoto, and the software that came with the 20d. i use a card reader to transfer images to my mac.
does anyone have a simple, efficient process for saving/editing/archiving the raws and jpegs?
in other words, how do i download from the card reader, save both raw photos and jpegs and then edit? what workflow works best for you?
so far, since i can't figure out which programs i should be using, i've defaulted to iphoto. i dowload directly into iphoto and have been editing my jpegs using iphoto. but cannot figure out the best way to access the raw photos and archive them onto cd's/dvd's. it took me a long time to even figure out where the raws were stored. (was able to do this with some helpful hints from another kind user on this forum.)
i found the raws in some 'originals' folders in my picture photo/iphoto library folder but the thumbnails are blank images. i tried to drag them into photoshop hoping i could view and save the raws there, then backup to a disc, but it did not recognize the type of file. so, right now, none of my photos are backed up onto cd's/dvd's as i don't know the best way to do this, and am unsure as to whether saving the raws that i found in the originals folders even makes sense if photo shop doesn't recognize them.
also,
i still have some photos on the original cards..so i can theoretically start the process fresh, if anyone thinks i should start from scratch...
i could really use help with the basics:
ie. once i've taken the photos, what do i do next? how should i set up my program preferences, which programs are best to use, how can i easily archive, etc.
if i haven't provided enough info, just let me know.

Canon VIxia hf20 help!!!!!

Hello, I recently purchased the Canon Vixia hf20. For some reason when i put the camera into playback mode/connection mode the computer will recognize the device but the software which came with the camera will not discover the movie loaded onto it. I am using a mac and the software is compatible with mac. I have plugged the camera into the power source as well as connected it to my macbook via USB. I have tried connecting it to imovie 09 as well as ustream but that didn't work either. The drivers are up to date but for some reason it just wont work. If anyone could help me with this I would greatly appreciate it, Thanks - JP

Bad news -- it looks like the Vixia hf20 is NOT compatible in video mode with Mac. From the Canon web support site:
Issue: What is the Mac compatibility of my camcorder?
Solution: The digital video solutions disk is compatible with Mac OS 10.4 and up for stills only. No video related software is provided.
The video connectivity of the Canon DVD and Hard Disc Drive camcorders provided by the software bundled with them is designed for use with Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Microsoft Windows Vista only. The Sonic Roxio My DVD software included with some models is only compatible with the Windows XP SP2 operating system when combined with a computer supporting the USB 2.0 specification.
Macintosh OS10.4.3 and up users may be able to view the contents of a finalized disk or files recorded onto the hard drive (for hard disc drive models) on the computer when it is connected to a USB port on the computer. With a finalized disk loaded into the camcorder the camera should show up on the desktop as a mounted drive and files may be copied (dragged) from the disk using normal procedures. Any desired editing, playback or other features may require additional third party software.
Note: Proper operation is not guaranteed.

Since purchasing my Mac Pro with retina display, I can no longer change the preferences on MP Navigator for Canon MX870. I can change them on my old Mac Pro with Lion, but not the new one. I can scan but I can't save it to a folder on my hard drive. I can only let it default to a back up date folder. Tried all sorts of things to change the preferences and folders, nothing worked. Ideas?

To prevent your iPhone from automatically syncing when you plug it in, click on iTunes in the menu bar, then preferences, then "devices", then tick "prevent iPhones, iPad's and iPod's from syncing automatically".
Plug it in, then on the iPhone sync summary screen, click "info" along the top.
Make sure the "sync contacts" option is not ticked. as long as it's not ticked, then it won't sync with your mac's contacts but will still include them in backups.
Also, if you use iCloud, make sure that the iPhone/mac are either not signed into the same account, or that "contacts" is not turned on for both of them

Opening CS4 projects in CS5 error with Canon 5D footage HELP!!!

HI Im trying out the new Premiere Pro CS5 demo and Im getting major problems opening projects.
Initially I couldnt open any of my CS4 projects but could import single sequences one at a time only, not whole projects. So I was finally working fine yesturday and today nothing opens that includes canon 5d footage . I get this error.
"This project contains a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type."
I get the same message when I import a whole project. Yet I can import a whole project 1 sequence at a time!!!
I can only create new projects which save and open but all older saved projects do not open.

Yes, this is an intermittent issue with CS5. Somehow, there’s a problem wherein certain commonly-used codecs suddenly remove/disable themselves. I had this problem, and it was driving me crazy as I couldn’t open anything, and it was just way, way too much work to recreate. So I opened up a new project. Lo and behold, the program suddenly informed me that there were codecs that needed to be installed. Codecs which, I’m sure, have been installed already, but obviously Premiere knows that they’re missing. Allowing the program to install them, and then allowing it to quit itself, and then reopening the program again enabled Premiere to open all of my projects again.

Trouble previewing photos shot with a Canon 20D. Help please.

Hi out there. I have a photo library with images shot with two different digital cameras: Canon PowerShot 40 and Canon SRL 20D. For some reasons that I can't figure out, photos taken by the 20D can't be previewed. Please what's that simple thing I have to do. thanks

the 20D has ~8Mpix resolution..
use any pic processor (or Apple's Preview), to downsize the res to 720x480 (if you don't do any KB effects...)
we read more&more reports, that iM has some 'trouble' with 'large scale' pics from these new digistills with a res beyond >5Mpix ... forum's mastermind Karl Petersen recommends to downsize them ..

Canon Rebel T3 HELP

Hi I recently bought a brand new Canon T3 rebel. It came with two lenses but i would like something better quality. I was recently at an aquarium and this lady asked if i could take a picture of them since we had the same camera. The camera felt kind of heavier but I didn't want to check the lens to see what kind it was. The camera felt kind of heavy though. So I guess my question is what lens would be best for shooting portraits, landscape and up close wildlife

Yup, that's the one. It's not the best lens compared to a lot of other similar options but it performs quite well relative to its price. I like buy refurbished from Canon for more expensive lenses when it can save me some cash, but for a lens this cheap you probably should just buy new. I wouldn’t buy through grey market, for $25 more you can get it brand new, from Amazon, Prime shipping, with a warranty.
That said, I’m a big fan of Sigma too. I don’t know that I’d go for the 50-150 as your first non-kit lens though. My first non-kit lens was a Sigma 17-70, and I felt like it was a big jump up from the kit lens – which broke, so I had to upgrade. They have a new version with a bit wider aperture (2.8 – 4), it would probably fit your requirements pretty good and be in your budget.
