Canon MP280 quit printing

I'll start by thanking the guy who set up the registration process for informing me that my first name is a "bad word" and that I must "clean up my language" before proceeding.  I'll rush down to the courthouse tomorrow to change the name that I've carried for 70 years.  So I'm registered now under artificial, possibly illegal, name.  Hopefully former VP Cheney isn't using Canon.  And to think people voted for someone with such a bad name!!
Anyway, MP280 trucking along just fine, then ran out of color ink.  I purchased and installed genuine Canon ink cartridge, now will not print from computer and will not copy.  Paper goes through just fine but comes out completely blank.  Not smudged, no black, no color, nothing.  If printing two pages, both come through, both blank.  Same with the copy function.   But Test Page does print as it is supposed to.  So print heads are working.  I installed new driver from Canon website to no avail.  Test page confirms computer is talking to printer.  Probably something simple, but I'm not computer literate so would appreciate any help.  Mac OSX, v 10.6.8.  Thanks in advance.

Hi dicklowman,
When the test page of the printer printed, did it look like the image below, including both sections 1 and 2?

  • Canon MP280 not printing

I'm hesitant in making yet another "Canon X not printing" thread, but after trying methods listed in the other threads, and not knowing where I'm going wrong, I thought I'd ask for some help on it.
I've read the various Canon MPXXX threads, and followed the steps in them like the thing with libpng12 yet still no ability to print. I'm connecting through usb so I'm using cups-usblp, when I go into the web config utility, I add the printer using the cnijusb backend. The curious thing though is that there is no response in the printer, however when using the usb backend the 7-seg display at least shows the printing status for a brief moment.
I've tried it with both cups and cups-usblp, with and without the Canon proprietary drivers, with and without gutenprint, with and without turboprint. I had it working in Ubuntu 10.04 64bit by just installing the .deb packages from Canon. Also of note is that whenever installing from AUR, I can't install any cnijfilter-common without it conflicting with cnijfilter-mp280. And whenever I'm trying to get it to work I make sure that /dev/usb/lp1 (what it detects as) is set to root:lp 0666 to avoid perm problems.
I've literally been trying to get it working for a week now, I got it instead of an HP because the ink is slightly cheaper, but maybe I should have stuck with the HP like intended.

I must not have seen it in the mountain of output when I scanned through it before. Looks like cifmp280 looks for libcnbpcnclapi370.so and the one I got is *356.so. All I would need to do is find the proper version file, add it to /usr/lib and make a symlink to libcnbpcnclapi370.so, if I'm not mistaken. I'll try that out now, and see if it works.
I'm also going to assume it's that issue that is making the backend fail, since I can't find any output like I did for cifmp280 for cnijusb.
EDIT: I went ahead and replaced all *365 libraries with their *370 replacements in /usr/lib. cifmp280 still complains about libcnbpcnclapi370.so missing and instead of pending, jobs are instantly completed. Ought I check the lib32 folder, or disregard it?
EDIT2: My issue is that I keep trying to read a ton of info in error_log file through tail -f. Noted the time of the test job and opened it in nano, so I can look harder at the output. I'll make a third update with more info from the log in a bit, if I can't get it working myself.

  • Canon MG5420 quit printing CD labels suddenly?

I have the MG5420 printer which up until a day ago was working perfectly. I print CD labels directly on to discs often and over wifi network and have never had an issue. Suddenly a day or so ago it started giving me the message: "cannot print because a printer supported by this software is not installed." I went to the Canon site, downloaded and installed every driver I could find, restarted the machine, reinstalled the software, tried Canon Easy-Photoprint EX, and nothing is working still. Is this a case of typical shoddy support by companies who let their printers become obsolete or is it operator error? Or, less snarkily, is there a solution? Thanks.

  • Canon Pixma MP280 AIO printer - ink levels cannot be displayed - how to resolve this problem?

    Good morning everyone,
I have a Canon Pixma MP280 AIO printer (about 18 months old) now which I previously had installed on a old Windows 7 Pro x64, SP1 Dell Optiplex 755 computer.  That computer finally bit the dust.
My present computer is a Dell Optiplex 745, Win 7 SP1 x64 Home Premium  machine.
Description of problem:  After installing the printer on this computer (using the CD/DVD that originally came with it and following all the instructions), I find the printer will no longer display the ink levels.  Every time I click on "Printer Status", the pop-up box just states the info cannot be displayed.  (All other  functions of the printer work just fine).
Resolutions attempted thus far w/out success:
    1.  Uninstalled printer and deleted all files associated with it (2 times).  Re-started computer, then re-installed it.
    2.  Emailed Canon Support.  their response did not resolve the issue.  (Don't recall just what they said as I've long since deleted that email reply).
    3.  Searched the Forums here for an identical problem with the same model printer, but didn't see anything.
My question:  Is there a resolution for this problem?
Thank you for your time and any help.
    Pete C.

Yes, thanks for  your follow-up .. .Mine did not work after the day-long shut off.
I am gonna risk buying a new black ink cartridge since my machine seems to just be running the error on the black alone.
Good luck with your new one.
I will probably upgrade too, if this does not work.  I cannot complain about this machine. I had two, one for office and one for home. Both took A LOT of use. And, i used no-name refill cartridges and no-name refill ink for over half the time on the home machine.
This one, the home one lasted about 6 years, the other about 4+1/2 . I think that is pretty **bleep** (lol it censored the correct spelling of 'dam') good mileage for a fairly inexpensive machine, that got very high ratings, and gave me all those features.
    Good Luck.

  • Canon Pixma MP970 Printer - Need Help Installing on 10.9.3!

I have a Canon Pixma MP970 printer that I cannot get to work on my MacBook Pro running OS 10.9.3! I had no issue running it on the initial release of OS 10.9, but now it is making me pull my hair out!
I recently wiped my ssd and reinstalled OS X from the recovery partition and this is when I began encountering the issue. I went to the Canon website and there are no drivers provided because it says they are already contained in OS 10.9 (and the Canon website already detects my OS). I have plugged the printer into my MacBook Pro using a USB cable and running software update (to make sure any drivers are downloaded) and there is no download. I have tried entering the printer IP address manually and still nothing.
I am out of options unless a kind soul on these forums can light the path for me. Is it possible this printer is no longer supported after an incremental OS update?
    Printer: Canon Pixma MP970
Connection: Home network, wired LAN to router (printer itself already configured for network, and was working before ssd wipe)

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Canon MX 850 "Print job manager failed"

After recently upgrading to Snow Leopard (0S 10.6.8) my Canon MX 850 Wireless Printer has quit working.  After every attempt to print I get the message:
    Error: System/Library/Printers/Libraries/PrintJobMgr/Contents/MacOS/PrintJobMgr failed
I really need to get this fixed.  Please help!

Pahu's response to "Canon MX860: Cannot Print from WiFi because of System/library Error" solved my problem completely.  So give him 10 points from me too!

  • Time Capsule and Canon MP280

Printing with my Canon MP280 connected to the USB-Port at the Time Capsule is possible, but no scanning. What can I do?

Unfortunately, Canon has apparently not provided full function network USB drivers to Apple, so only the print function is supported when you connect your All-in-One to the Time Capsule's USB port.
You might want to check with Canon Support to ask them if they have any updated full function drivers that you could download directly from their site that might allow the scan function to work with the current connection.
If no luck there, it appears that the MP280 does not offer a wireless connection or Ethernet connection option, so if you need the scan function, the MP280 must connect directly to a computer.
Or, if the product is new, perhaps you could exchange it for a network ready device with wireless or Ethernet connectivity options. That would allow full functionality with the new device.

  • HT1695 I have Canon MG3250 air printer but I am unable to print from my I-pad, please can you help?

Please help me to be able to print from my Canon MG3250 Air printer from my I pad.

Your printer is AirPrint capable - make sure your iPad and the printer are on the same WiFi network.
Here's a guide that includes troubleshooting tips:

  • Installed a wireless canon Pixma MX432 printer back in November for use with my Mac Book Air. All was working normally until this past week when I began getting a message, "printer not connected." What is going on? Netgear Wireless N Router seems to be ok

My new canon Pixma MX432 printer is not printing. It was printing fine until about ten days ago. I use a Netgear Wireless N router, which is also new. What do I need to do. I get a message when trying to print that says "printer not connected." In addition, my old Gateway laptop will still print fine apparently because it has a cable connection to the printer. Puzzled!

Have you tried rebooting the router? I would unplug it, wait a few seconds, then plug it back in. Be sure you know the password etc. if that doesn't work, try unplugging and rebooting the printer. Good luck!

  • Any ideas how to fix my mac book pro to canon pixma mp640 printer connection?

Anyone have any ideas how to fix my mac book pro to canon pimxa mp640 printer link? The two are connected manually yet the ! remains on the 'print' page next to the printer name. it was working fine until i changed the ink cartridges. Without the wireless password - which I've never had and don't supposedly need as it's not a wireless connection, I am being prevented from resuming printing.

If it's on a windows network you have to enter your (windows) log in (name/password) credentials.
This should be a 1 time event. It will remember it thereafter.

    Hello Steven,
The ICA driver is for scanning, not for printing. For Mac OS X 10.6, you need to install the Canon CUPS driver v10.26.
    You can download the driver via this link;
    http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0100137502.html
Looking at the steps, it appears this would have been for a Mac OS X 10.5 installation, given the reference to not using CUPS. It also looks like it could have been one of my replies, although I doubt that I told the user to install the ICA driver for a printing issue. As I said, it is just for scanning and it was only released after Snow Leopard was released.

  • How to print with a Canon Compact Photo Printer CP-330?

never found a so hard issue, I'm used to plug&play hardware...
can anyone help me printing from iPhoto or Photoshop to a Canon Compact Photo Printer CP-330?
I tried with Canon's drivers, with Gimp 5, anything... one time the printer started working, then stopped after the first pass (yellow color)... frustrating...
    thanks

    Hi there,
If you have had no luck with the Canon or Gutenprint drivers then you may have a printer problem. Have you been able to print from it using your memory card directly connected?
If you think/know the printer is okay then I would look at the cups error log to determine why the spool is failing. This log is located in the Console application.

  • Canon Wi-Fi Printer Unable to find SSID after OS upgraded

I am using Canon MG4100 series printer. After I upgraded my iMac OS X 10.9 and also upgraded the firmware of my Time Capsule, my printer is no longer able to find the SSID. While all other devices have no issue except the Canon printer. Anyone can help?

Make sure the wireless names.. and TC name is smb compatible.
    Short.. 2-20 characters
    No spaces
    Pure alphanumeric.
The standard apple names are invalid in most OS.
Even apple manipulate the network names..
Turn off security and fix the wireless to 11, 6, 1 in that order.. just as a test. If all of them fail,
Then I recommend you buy a cheap TP-Link, edimax etc wireless router and use it as a WAP.. plugged into the TC.

  • My Photoshop Elements 13 doesn't recognize my Canon PRO-10 printer. I've tried EVERYTHING. Reinstalled all my software, didn't fix anything. Can anyone help?

I have Windows 7 x64 on a desktop PC. I have Photoshop Elements 13. I bought the Canon PRO-10 PRINTER on 2/3 and at first it worked fine. Then I tried to install it as a plug-in in Elements 13, and everything went bad. When I click on AUTOMATION TOOLS it does say "Canon Easy Photo Print Pro" like it should, but when I click on that I get an error message NO SUPPORTED PRINTER FOUND. CONNECT A PRINTER SUPPORTED BY THIS SOFTWARE AND THEN INSTALL A DRIVER. I also tried the FILE > PRINT command which also said there was no printer installed.
I reinstalled the Canon software and driver. Then I called Canon. I got a real live tech person who checked everything out and asked me to print from a different program. That worked fine and he said, the printer is fine. It's a problem with Adobe. Contact them. I uninstalled my Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 and reinstalled it. But the whole situation remains the same. I can't find how to contact a live technician for help so I'm appealing to ANYONE to help me with this. If you can 't help me with the printer problem, can you tell me how to reach a live tech support person at Adobe??

    Hi,
After talking to 3 different Canon techs who didn't know anything about
this and told me it was Adobe's fault, a 4th Canon tech e-mailed me a list
of the Elements software that is "compatible" with the Canon Pro-10
printer. The list stops at Elements 12! In other words, Canon has not
written the software for their plug-in to work with Elements 13 yet. I
personally am stunned by this. Considering how popular Adobe Elements is,
you'd think Canon would be up-to-date on having their new printer's plug-in
work with Elements 13, which has been out there for some time.
Not only that, Canon's more expensive printer, the Canon PRO-100, also has
the same problem. My friend just bought one and told me the plug-in doesn't
    work with Elements 13.
I have figured out a solution, if it will be of help. I had just
uninstalled Adobe Elements 12 and when I saw that Canon's plug-in worked
with Elements 12, I quickly reinstalled it. Sure enough, when I clicked on
AUTOMATION TOOLS there was the Canon plug-in, and when I clicked on it, the
Canon print screen opened. So I decided I would do my photo editing in
Elements 13, and when ready to print I would open the photo in Elements 12
and print it there. Hope that helps.

  • Re: 6510 Suddenly quit printing black ink - cartridge is new

Like the others, my Officejet 6500 710 quit printing in black "out of the blue".  Have done all of the diagnostics, both Windows and HP.  Tried repeatedly to download new driver, no luck.  Out of ideas.   Will appreciate advice.

    Hi @answerpls
I'd like to help you be able to print again. I understand your colored cartridges are working, but the blank ink is not.  Please begin with the steps in the following document; Printer Prints a Blank Page or Does Not Print Black or Color Ink for the HP Officejet 6500A e-All-in...
If you complete all of the steps in the document above and the issue continues, my own personal recommendation, not one of HPs, is to use the solution offered in the following video.  I only suggest doing this if he printer and printhead are out of warranty.  Hot Water Printhead Flush - HP Ink Series Printers with removable Printhead.
I have recommended this solution to others and have seen success, but I can not guarantee this will resolve the issue, it is an end of the line kind of effort. I hope it helps.

flushing it worked, Yeah!!!!!!! thanks for your help.
Although the printer might be out of warranty, if the issue persists, HP may be able to offer you something. Maybe they can offer you a discount on a newer model, or discuss the option of replacing the printhead!  If after all of our efforts the issue remains, I suggest calling HP. If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
Thanks for reaching out to the HP Forums. I hope one of my recommendations resolves the issue.
