Canon MP530 Network 10.5.3

Hello,
Before I installed the Leopard 10.5.3 update, I had my Canon MP530 plugged into my Airport Extreme by USB and was able to add the printer in the Printer Preferences and print wirelessly while connected to my Airport Extreme network. After installing 10.5.3, everything seems to have stopped working. The printer works when its connected directly to a computer but not when connected to the Airport.
What has happened!!?

The .3 update has probably changed some permissions on your preference lists. So some things to try...
Open Print & Fax, select the MP530 printer and delete it (click the minus icon)
Control click on the empty printer list and select Reset printing system
Go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and run Repair Disk Permissions
Try turning off the Airport Extreme for a minute and turn back on.
See if you can add the printer again.

The prints you are getting are showing postscript commands. This indicates that you have selected a postscript driver on the Mac, however the MP530 is not capable of printing postscript.
What you need to do is go to Sourceforge and download the Gutenprint driver set for Mac OS X. Without checking I believe that version 5.1.7 supports the MP530.
With this driver set installed, you can select the Canon MP530 Gutenprint 5.1.7 in the Print Using menu instead of Generic Postscript, or whatever postscript driver you currently have selected.

  • Windows Cannot Connect to Canon MP530 Printer via AEBSn

OK, here's my setup, and my problem:
    1. Mac mini, Windows Vista PC, Windows XP PC all connected to an AEBSn via Ethernet.
    2. Bonjour for Windows installed on both PCs.
    3. Ministack w/built-in powered USB2.0 Hub & Internal HDD connected to AEBSn's USB port.
    3. External HDD in USB 2.0 enclosure attached to Ministack via USB port.
    4. Canon MP530 Printer connected to Ministack via USB port.
I can read and write to the Minstack's internal HDD and the other External HDD from any computer on the network, no problem. I can print to the printer from the Macintosh. But I CANNOT print from the Windows PC.
I can, allegedly, see the printer from the Windows machines and add it via Bonjour. I have also tried to add it via the method listed at iFelix's website (i.e. adding a printer by creating a new TCP/IP printer port). But nothing works.
Here is what happens: everything "appears" to work and the printer shows up on the Windows machines and in fact quite often once it is set up I can print a test page. However, once I try to use the machine later on, after the initial set-up it never works, this has happened now over about 15-20 cycles of installing, uninstalling, and re-installing the printer.
What I notice happens by looking at the Windows printer queue when i send a document to the printer in Windows is the following:
    1. Sometimes the print dialog will simply say something like "Checking printer status" and just freeze there and nothing prints.
    2. Sometimes it will add the document to the queue and then immediately delete it and nothing prints.
    3. Quite often it will simply say something like "Printer is not responding" or "Printer is offline" and the print job just sits in the queue and nothing prints.
    4. Sometimes, and I am not joking, the document will print out minutes later, inexplicably, once ten minutes later after the computer was turned off!
This is maddening and I would love a solution, even if that solution is ditch the Canon and buy "insert printer name" or "known working printer", because at this point I just need to print from the network with some consistency. I can print from any computer if the Canon is directly connected, but that is a horrible process of plugging and unplugging USB cables, and this is SUPPOSED to work.
Also, I would note that I am not adverse to using a switch with the printer, and would prefer an auto switch if anyone knows one that is know to work with PCs and Mac. I would prefer one that did not take an Ethernet port (like the new Belkin one) as I need all three of them for wired connections.
Any help greatly appreciated as I have been battling this problem for many days now with no help, and the Apple Geniuses at my local store could not provide a solution or even recommend a printer that was known to work with Windows via the AEBSn.

    Thanks, Arimaris!
    Appreciate the response!
Your first link should be: http://www.ifelix.co.uk/tech/8013.html
That is the link for the compatibility list for the NEWER AEBSn, the one you provided is for the older base station. I've seen this list before and the problem is that most of the printers are older there, and hard to find, and there is no certainty that if you do buy that older printer it will workk as the disclaimer on the article reads: "Please also note that due to changes in firmware and software upgrades some printers which are in this list may no longer in fact be compatible."
I would love to see an OFFICIAL lost from Apple about which printers are KNOWN to work with the AEBSn via USB, but I am thinking they might not do that so as not to anger their partners who cannot seem to make their printers function properly via Windows.
I've also tried the method mentioned in your second link, many times, and it does not work for me, either consistently or reliably. I've gotten the printer to work that way (creating a new printer port via TCP/IP w/ AEBS IP addy) maybe once or twice, usually right after I set it up, and then immediately after the test print, or after a restart, it stops working. I've also had it not work after set-up. I've also experienced the "It doesn't work, walk away, and then it prints 15 mins later" syndrome, with this approach. Also, it is a pain to later delete this new TCP/IP port and try again.
Something has got to give, someone has got to know the answer to this problem. I valiantly tried to get answers from the "experts" and "geniuses" at MacWorld this month, to no avail. Sorry you are experiencing the same, I feel your pain.

I have a MacBook Air (10.8.2) connected to a Canon MP530 printer.    I am unable to scan documents as it appears my Mac does not support MP Navigator.   Any ideas?     I have made an inquiry to Canon but have not received any answers yet.

Why do you say your MBA won't support it? MP Navigator for OS X 8 and the MP530 is available here.

  • Canon IJ Network Scanning Utility not showing up in Menu bar

Hi, I recently performed an erase and install of my Mac. I then used Migration Assistant to restore my data. I have a Canon MP620 Wireless Printer. I noticed that the Canon IJ Network Scanning Utility is not showing up in the menu bar. How do I get it to show up again?
Message was edited by: Stuart Lawrence

When installed, the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility is located HD > Library > Printers > Canon > BJPrinters > Utilities. Double click the utility and the icon will appear on the menubar. If you want the utility to start on login, then you can add it to your Login items, located in System Preferences > Accounts.

  • Canon MP600R network scan failed!

    Hi,
I have a Canon MP600R connected to my wifi network trough the wifi interface.
Under Leopard Printer and Scanner are working fine even the scan to Mac on the printer directly.
Now i have upgraded my Macs to Snow Leopard (tested with 10.6 and 10.6.1 but running now 10.6.1) and i easily got the printer working over the network using the SL built-in driver (before and after the Canon driver update).
For the scanner it's a nightmare!!!!
Without add-on or Canon driver no way to have the scanner working even trough USB.
If i add the ScanGear driver 12.13.1 from the Canon Web site supporting 10.6 it works trough USB but no way trough the network : impossible to add the scanner over the network!!!!!!!
By the way trough USB when you press the Scan to Mac button on the printer you don't need anymore the MP Navigator from Canon, the scan is handle directly trough Image Capture application.
Could someone help me to add the network scanner on my MP600R ???
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Nicolas

Hi Nicolas. I managed to find my old MP600R in the storeroom and managed to get it scanning into 10.6.1. Here is the steps.
Before you start you will need the MP600R Scanner Driver v12.13.1, the Canon IJ Network Tool v2.70 and MP Navigator v3.0.4 application installed on the 10.6 Mac.
    1. Click on the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility icon in the menubar. To me this looks like an art deco chair.
    2. Click on Open Settings. This will open the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility. If the MP600R is not in the list, click Register Scanner.
    3. The Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector application will now appear. Canon MP600R Network should be in the TWAIN Data Source menu and under Network Device List, you should see the MAC address for the MP600R. Click Apply. This will add the MP600R to the IJ Scan Utility list. Click Exit to close the Scanner Selector application.
    4. After closing the Scanner Selector application the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility will be displayed. Click the OK button to add the MP600R.
    5. Now you are ready to scan. However, I could not get Image Capture or Preview to locate the MP600R, which is what I use with my networked MP980. But after installing MP Navigator v3.0.4 and registering the MP600R via the Preferences menu of Navigator, I was able to scan using Navigator and push scan a document from the MP600R.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Cannot see  Canon MP620 installed printer and Canon IJ Network

I try to install my new printer Canon MP620 on my iMac G5 (10.4.11).
The installation procedure seems ok according the documentation.
When I want to use the printer the "Canon IJ Network" is not available. This option should be present when I click on "More Printers" in the "Printer Browser" (others protocol like AppleTalk are listed).
The Canon MP620 driver is not visible in the driver list.
The printer can be use by other computers (XP, Vista) and is available on my LAN . I can see the printer with the "Canon Network tool" and the network scan function works fine.
I reinstalled, download the last version from Canon web site, repaired authorizations, ... without success.
Any idea and help are welcomed !

The printer is connected with a RJ45 cable 100 MBytes. I can ping it from the mac, the http service of the printer is reachable ... thus I guess this is not a network problem.

  • Where is Canon IJ Network Tool?

I have IMACS with OS 10. I have an MX860. I had a router and everything was working fine through comcast cable modem. Them we got combined comcast TV, phone, and cable modem. So that service came with wireless so I am trying to change the settings to their router. I came to a step that says select the Canon IJ Network Tool  and select LAN connection. Where is the Canon IJ Network Tool?
    Thanks,

    Hello gs3sward.
Please try the following to connect the unit to the network:
     1.  Open the Hard Drive (Mac HD).
     2.  Open the Library Folder.
     3.  Open the Printers folder.
     4.  Open the Canon Folder, then the BJ Printer folder.  Once there, open the Utilities folder.
     5.  Open the Canon IJ Network utility.
     6.  Once the utility is launched, make sure that 'Setup' is selected in the upper left dropdown menu instead of 'Utility'.
     7.  Select the printer in the list or click 'Update' if it has not populated yet, then click 'OK'.
     8.  Follow the steps on screen to configure the printer over your network.
     9.  Once the setup is complete, add the printer by clicking the Apple and choosing 'System Preferences'.
    10.  Open the 'Print and Fax' menu.
    11.  Highlight and delete any copies of the Canon Printer listed on the left by clicking the minus (-) sign.
    12.  Click the plus (+) sign.
    13.  Click the 'More Printers' option on the lower left when it appears.
    14.  Make sure that 'Canon IJ Network is selected in the top drop down menu of the next screen.
    15.  Highlight the printer and click 'Add' when it is available.
Once this has been done, disconnect the USB cable and attempt to print.

  • Uninstall Canon IJ Network Scan Utility

I recently attempted to install the Canon MX700 over a wired LAN but was unsuccessful. I was so fed up that I decided to uninstall all the software associated with Canon. I still see an icon for the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility in the upper right hand portion of my screen. How can I ensure that all the software associated with Canon is removed?
    Thanks.

Under System Preferences, System, Accounts, Login Items, I removed the Scan Utility from the list of programs that open automatically when I log in. The program no longer starts but I fear that the program is lingering some where on my computer hard drive.

  • Canon IJ Network Scanning Utility not working

    Hello,
Since I upgraded my OS to Yosemite, the application "Canon IJ Network Scan Utility.app" is not working anymore.
When I try to launch it, it first shows in the top menu bar and then disappears. It is located in Macintosh HD ▸ Library ▸ Printers ▸ Canon ▸ BJPrinter ▸ Utilities.
I cannot use my scanner from the scanner itself any more which is not so convenient when you have a stack of document to scan...
    B.
    Tech. details:
    Yosemite version 10.10.1
    iMac (24-inch Mid 2007)
Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB

I have noticed the same issue you are talking about. I have found a workaround to trigger scans from the printer, but it is MUCH less convenient than it was in Mavericks.
If you install all the latest Yosemite versions of Canon drivers and utilities from canon support site, you should have something called "Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector EX". If you run this, your printer should show as one of the options to select. Select it. There should also be a button labeled: "Scan-from-operation-panel-settings". Click that, and select your printer. If it is already selected, you may have to unselect and then re-select. At the printer, you should then see your mac in the "PC" destination selector.
With Mavericks, I only had to set this up once, and I could then ALWAYS just go right to the printer to initiate scans. That is, it STAYED connected to my computer: as long as the computer was on, I could just go straight to the printer to start scanning. Now, it seems that the connection somehow gets broken, or the "listener program" on the Mac stops, or something, and you have to go through the above steps again to get it re-connected. It is quite annoying, and much less convenient than it was with Mavericks. I think in my case, it gets "disconnected" every time my computer goes to sleep.
Hope that helps. If you find a way to keep it connected all the time, I'd appreciate it!

  • Getting OCR going with my canon MP530

    Hi All,
I can't seem to find software to scan/OCR in 1 step with my canon MP530 (using 10.6)
    Any suggestions?
(btw: I saw a friend do this with basic HP scanner on a pc)

MP Navigator v2.24 has an OCR function. The version of MP Navigator that would have been included with the MP530 CDs may be older than v2.24 and therefore does not support 10.6, so use the link I have provided.

  • How to properly locate and  "Uninstall Canon ij Network Scan Utility"

I had this same problem so I went thru my computer's specifics.
If you try doing a spotlight or "find" search for canon, canon lj network utility, etc. you'll only find a "Canon" folder, but it won't necessarily give you the information you're looking for.
    Here's what I did:
First turn off the "canon ij network scan utility"
    Then:
    1. Click on Finder
    2. Click the Macintosh HD icon (hard drive icon under iDisk)
    3. Click the Library folder (make sure it's the folder with the picture on it, building with columns)
    4. Scroll down to the "Printers" folder
    5. Locate the "Canon" folder, then the "BJPrinter" folder.
    6. Once you installed the "canon ij network scan utility" to your computer, various components will be scattered throughout this "BJPrinter" folder. Click on each folder, and check the "Date Modified" column. Every file within this folder that has a Date Modified similar to the date you installed the program, is a file with a relation to the "canon ij network scan utility." I suggest deleting them all.
    7. If you're looking to make sure you're getting rid of the"canon ij network scan utility," after you click on Macintosh HD>>Library>>Printers>>Canon>>BJPrinter, click on the "Utilities" folder. In this folder you'll find a couple of utilities installed with the "canon ij network scan utility" program, but you'll also find the actual "canon ij network scan utility" program. I suggested dragging the utilities folder to the trash and disposing of it all. Do a "secure empty trash" if necessary. It may not empty right away since you still had it on the top right, so restart your computer then try to empty the trash when everything reboots.
    Hope this helps.

Under System Preferences, System, Accounts, Login Items, I removed the Scan Utility from the list of programs that open automatically when I log in. The program no longer starts but I fear that the program is lingering some where on my computer hard drive.
