Canon MP600R network scan failed!

Hi,
I have a Canon MP600R connected to my wifi network trough the wifi interface.
Under Leopard Printer and Scanner are working fine even the scan to Mac on the printer directly.
Now i have upgraded my Macs to Snow Leopard (tested with 10.6 and 10.6.1 but running now 10.6.1) and i easily got the printer working over the network using the SL built-in driver (before and after the Canon driver update).
For the scanner it's a nightmare!!!!
Without add-on or Canon driver no way to have the scanner working even trough USB.
If i add the ScanGear driver 12.13.1 from the Canon Web site supporting 10.6 it works trough USB but no way trough the network : impossible to add the scanner over the network!!!!!!!
By the way trough USB when you press the Scan to Mac button on the printer you don't need anymore the MP Navigator from Canon, the scan is handle directly trough Image Capture application.
Could someone help me to add the network scanner on my MP600R ???
Thanks in advance
Regards
Nicolas

Hi Nicolas. I managed to find my old MP600R in the storeroom and managed to get it scanning into 10.6.1. Here is the steps.
Before you start you will need the MP600R Scanner Driver v12.13.1, the Canon IJ Network Tool v2.70 and MP Navigator v3.0.4 application installed on the 10.6 Mac.
1. Click on the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility icon in the menubar. To me this looks like an art deco chair.
2. Click on Open Settings. This will open the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility. If the MP600R is not in the list, click Register Scanner.
3. The Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector application will now appear. Canon MP600R Network should be in the TWAIN Data Source menu and under Network Device List, you should see the MAC address for the MP600R. Click Apply. This will add the MP600R to the IJ Scan Utility list. Click Exit to close the Scanner Selector application.
4. After closing the Scanner Selector application the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility will be displayed. Click the OK button to add the MP600R.
5. Now you are ready to scan. However, I could not get Image Capture or Preview to locate the MP600R, which is what I use with my networked MP980. But after installing MP Navigator v3.0.4 and registering the MP600R via the Preferences menu of Navigator, I was able to scan using Navigator and push scan a document from the MP600R.
Hope this helps you.

  • Canon IJ Network Scanning Utility not showing up in Menu bar

    Hi, I recently performed an erase and install of my Mac. I then used Migration Assistant to restore my data. I have a Canon MP620 Wireless Printer. I noticed that the Canon IJ Network Scanning Utility is not showing up in the menu bar. How do I get it to show up again?
    Message was edited by: Stuart Lawrence

    When installed, the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility is located HD > Library > Printers > Canon > BJPrinters > Utilities. Double click the utility and the icon will appear on the menubar. If you want the utility to start on login, then you can add it to your Login items, located in System Preferences > Accounts.

  • Uninstall Canon IJ Network Scan Utility

    I recently attempted to install the Canon MX700 over a wired LAN but was unsuccessful. I was so fed up that I decided to uninstall all the software associated with Canon. I still see an icon for the Canon IJ Network Scan Utility in the upper right hand portion of my screen. How can I ensure that all the software associated with Canon is removed?
    Thanks.

    Under System Preferences, System, Accounts, Login Items, I removed the Scan Utility from the list of programs that open automatically when I log in. The program no longer starts but I fear that the program is lingering some where on my computer hard drive.

  • Canon IJ Network Scanning Utility not working

    Hello,
    Since I upgraded my OS to Yosemite, the application "Canon IJ Network Scan Utility.app" is not working anymore.
    When I try to launch it, it first shows in the top menu bar and then disappears. It is located in Macintosh HD ▸ Library ▸ Printers ▸ Canon ▸ BJPrinter ▸ Utilities.
    I cannot use my scanner from the scanner itself any more which is not so convenient when you have a stack of document to scan...
    B.
    Tech. details:
    Yosemite version 10.10.1
    iMac (24-inch Mid 2007)
    Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB

    I have noticed the same issue you are talking about. I have found a workaround to trigger scans from the printer, but it is MUCH less convenient than it was in Mavericks.
    If you install all the latest Yosemite versions of Canon drivers and utilities from canon support site, you should have something called "Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector EX". If you run this, your printer should show as one of the options to select. Select it. There should also be a button labeled: "Scan-from-operation-panel-settings". Click that, and select your printer. If it is already selected, you may have to unselect and then re-select. At the printer, you should then see your mac in the "PC" destination selector.
    With Mavericks, I only had to set this up once, and I could then ALWAYS just go right to the printer to initiate scans. That is, it STAYED connected to my computer: as long as the computer was on, I could just go straight to the printer to start scanning. Now, it seems that the connection somehow gets broken, or the "listener program" on the Mac stops, or something, and you have to go through the above steps again to get it re-connected. It is quite annoying, and much less convenient than it was with Mavericks. I think in my case, it gets "disconnected" every time my computer goes to sleep.
    Hope that helps. If you find a way to keep it connected all the time, I'd appreciate it!

  • How to properly locate and  "Uninstall Canon ij Network Scan Utility"

    I had this same problem so I went thru my computer's specifics.
    If you try doing a spotlight or "find" search for canon, canon lj network utility, etc. you'll only find a "Canon" folder, but it won't necessarily give you the information you're looking for.
    Here's what I did:
    First turn off the "canon ij network scan utility"
    Then:
    1. Click on Finder
    2. Click the Macintosh HD icon (hard drive icon under iDisk)
    3. Click the Library folder (make sure it's the folder with the picture on it, building with columns)
    4. Scroll down to the "Printers" folder
    5. Locate the "Canon" folder, then the "BJPrinter" folder.
    6. Once you installed the "canon ij network scan utility" to your computer, various components will be scattered throughout this "BJPrinter" folder. Click on each folder, and check the "Date Modified" column. Every file within this folder that has a Date Modified similar to the date you installed the program, is a file with a relation to the "canon ij network scan utility." I suggest deleting them all.
    7. If you're looking to make sure you're getting rid of the"canon ij network scan utility," after you click on Macintosh HD>>Library>>Printers>>Canon>>BJPrinter, click on the "Utilities" folder. In this folder you'll find a couple of utilities installed with the "canon ij network scan utility" program, but you'll also find the actual "canon ij network scan utility" program. I suggested dragging the utilities folder to the trash and disposing of it all. Do a "secure empty trash" if necessary. It may not empty right away since you still had it on the top right, so restart your computer then try to empty the trash when everything reboots.
    Hope this helps.

    Under System Preferences, System, Accounts, Login Items, I removed the Scan Utility from the list of programs that open automatically when I log in. The program no longer starts but I fear that the program is lingering some where on my computer hard drive.

  • Canon MF4370 network printing fails after 10.6 upgrade

    Have been using a Canon MF4370dn printer for the past year with a desktop PC, notebook PC and two MacBook Pro. Printer was connected via Ethernet cable to our AT&T wireless router. MacBook Pro running 10.5.x was able to print via AirPort WiFi just fine. After upgrading to 10.6 and replacing the router with an Airport Express I discovered both MacBooks are no longer able to print via the network. I have tried several solutions posted on this board for various Canon UFRII printer problems, but nothing is working.
    Here are some relevant setup and diagnostic details:
    * Mac OS X 10.6.5
    * Firewall is turned off
    * Canon UFR II v2.20 driver (followed prior version uninstall procedure from manual multiple times)
    * Added printer first via Bonjour, then via IP address and LPD
    * Able to access printer management interface via web browser
    * Able to print from desktop PC via Ethernet cable and from laptop PC via WiFi
    * Able to print from MacBook Pro connected via USB. UFRII print monitor gives error "Cannot monitor this printer with the current connection."
    * Unable to print from two MacBook Pros connected either via Ethernet cable or Airport WiFi. Print command returns 10322 error "Cannot communicate with the printer" and UFRII print monitor gives error "Printer not responding."
    I would appreciate any additional ideas!
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
    First of all I would like to complement you on the work you have done so far. Under most situations I would have expected you to resolve your issue with all that you have done.
    The clue for getting this to work is the UFR2 Printmonitor. Once it can communicate with the MF then the driver will function.
    From your information I believe that the UFR2 Printmonitor could be still looking for the previous setup when the MF was connected via the AT&T router. When you manually delete the UFR2 driver including "UFR2.BG.plist" this does not work correctly when the service is still running. You will see the 'UFR II Backgrounder' service via Activity Monitor.
    So I suggest that you open the UFRII Printmonitor and then click on the Printer menu. You may see the MF4370dn with a USB icon next to it from the previous USB connection. And it should also show the MF4370dn with a network icon next to it. What you want to do is update this network 'link' to the current network connection and that can be done by pressing 'Search for Printer'. Nothing will be visible on the display when this completes so leave it a couple of seconds and then open the UFRII Printmonitor > Printer menu again. If you now select the MF4370dn entry shown with a network icon this should now show a connection to the printer rather than a not responding error. If this does work then you can exit Printmonitor and try printing.
    If it still fails to print then delete the MF printer queue and manually remove the UFR2 driver files again, this time adding the extra step of Force Quitting the UFRII Backgrounder service via Activity Monitor. Then restart the Mac and run the v2.20 UFR2 installer again and then add the printer via LPD.
    See how that goes and reply if needed.

  • Canon MP600R WiFi Network Scan/Print Failure

    Hi there
    My setup:
    * a Canon MP600R multifunctional printer/scanner
    * an Apple iMac running Snow Leopard
    * a Dell Laptop running Windows Vista, and
    * a Netgear WGT624v3 wireless router.
    The printer and the two computers are all wirelessly connected to the router - there are no USB cables or wired LAN connections being used between these machines. All the machines have statically configured IP addresses (printer included).
    I can print and scan reliably from/to the Windows laptop. Printing from the Mac used to work reliably, but scanning to/from the iMac only worked once in a blue moon.
    To try to fix this, I updated the drivers on the Mac to the latest versions for Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard), and now I can't print or scan at all. The software I've been using is:
    From Canon Europe:
    * mp600rosxcp102620ea8-2.dmg - CUPS Printer Driver for OSX (10.26.2)
    * mp600rosxns10ea7-3.dmg - MP Drivers for Network (Snow Leopard) (1.00)
    * mp600rosxsd12131ej7.dmg - ScanGear CS for OS X (12.13.1)
    * mpnosx304ej7.dmg - MP Navigator- MP Navigator for Mac OS X (3.04)
    From Apple:
    * CanonPrinterDrivers2.3.dmg - Apple's Canon Printer Drivers (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL899)
    From Canon Australia:
    * ntosxm270ea8-2.dmg - IJ Network Tool Ver. 2.7.0
    After many delete/reinstall steps on the Mac (following PAHU's advice!) and much Googling - including disabling/enabling firewall settings, IPv6 settings and even various router RIP settings - I could do with some help please!
    What appears to be happening is that the Mac can't 'see' the printer, whereas the PC can - the drivers all seem to be installed in a similar way, and once set up (using the one-off USB connection step that the installers seem to like) they all have the right MAC address info. However the Mac Network Scan Utility shows a warning next to the printer's MAC address, whereas the PC is happy. Likewise, the PC's printer utilities can tell me about ink levels, the Mac's one gives me a communication error and puts the printer into paused mode.
    This leads me to believe it was something going on on the network. I can, however, ping the printer from the Mac and access it's web configuration interface - so it's not that the printer's unreachable from the Mac.
    To try to see what was going on in a bit more detail, I installed Wireshark and did some captures of the use of the Network Tool and Scan Utility.
    On the PC (192.168.0.4), which works, it appears to direct the BJNP discovery commands direct to the printers IP address (192.168.0.2).
    On the Mac (192.168.0.5), which fails, it appears to be broadcasting BJNP discovery messages to the subnet (192.168.0.255) and receiving ICMP Parameter problem responses from the printer.
    So, is this likely to be:
    A. the Canon drivers on the Mac
    B. the Netgear router doing something to stop the broadcast discovery, or
    C. something in the printer firmware?
    If so, any ideas how to workaround it - for example, can I 'force' the Mac version of the drivers to not do broadcast discovery and simply go direct to the IP address like the PC?
    Any help, pointers, gratefully received!

    Hi PAHU
    Thank you very much for responding - particularly with such detailed and reasoned advice!
    I have just tried deleting the BJPrinter folder, restarting and reinstalling only the Apple Canon Printer Drivers 2.3. On opening Print & Fax -> Add Printer I don't see anything in the window (no Bonjour Scanner or canonijnetwork) - I have left it open for more than 20 minutes now and still nothing.
    Using wireshark, I can see the Canon BJNP Discover packets to both 8611 and 8612 (and some mdns and db-lsp-disc packets). I can see the printer responding with error responses too:

  • Strange Behaviour while scanning from Canon MP600r with 10.5.7

    Dear all,
    I am working with the Canon MP600r (wifi) and scanned without any probs in Tiger. In Leopard I could not scan until 10.5.5. came out. Again everything was fine. Now in 10.5.6 and 10.5.7 I have strange problems: I can use the preview, abut while scanning suddenly it says that there is no communication with the scanner...!!
    Hope for little help
    Thanks
    Bernhard

    Hello Bernhard,
    Your issue sounds like there may be a problem with signal strength. I would open the Canon IJ Network Tool (which you can access via the Utility icon from the Printer Queue) and check the signal strength.
    If the strength is okay then you could try scanning at a low resolution, such as 75dpi. If you usually scan at a higher resolution, then scanning at a lower resolution will make the scanned file smaller and if that works then you know you still have a network quality issue. What brand and model of wireless router do you have?

  • Can Canon MP600R scan wirelessly?

    I am totally confused about my all-in-one. Before Lion I used it successfully for printing and scanning, both using USB and Ethernet connection. I can't recollect using it wirelessly.
    I'd like to use it wirelessly now, but I have problems. The printer works very unreliably, getting connection error from time to time, and the scanner does not work at all. When I open Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector, I see my scanner but I can't select it. The radio buttons are disabled and 'Do Not Use' is selected.
    I did completely reinstall the printer, removed all the drivers and Canon software, with no luck. All I need is for it to wirelessly print reliably and scan using Image Capture. Can anyone confirm it is possible, and if guide me step-by-step through the reinstallation?

    Could you enlighten me as to what the ICA scanner driver is? I have my mp600r connected via usb now and I am able to scan via Image Capture.
    The ICA driver (Image Capture Architecture) is for the purpose of scanning into Image Capture. Unlike the full scanner driver that lets you scan into TWAIN supported applications like Acrobat Pro and Photoshop, the ICA driver is just for Image Capture and provides a simple user interface for adjusting a few parameters.
    The ICA drivers are located in Library > Image Capture > Devices. Here you may see one or two CanonIJScanner packages.Checking both of them on my Mac, I cannot find an entry for the MP600/R (the R model has the wifi support). So unless the CanonIJScanner package on your Mac does have the MP600 listed, then I don't know how you are able to use Image Capture via USB. AFAIK the TWAIN driver is not used, and I only have scanners and AIOs that are in the list so I cannot check this.
    To your current issue, with you now being able to select the MP600R in the Canon IJ Scanner Selector, if you open MP Navigator, are you able to open the Preferences tab to ensure you have the networked MP600R selected, rather than the direct USB connected MP600R?

  • How to I get my Canon MX700 to scan to my new iMAC top? Currently the Canon will print from the iMAC. They are on a wireless home network. The Canon use to scan to the PC using software called MP or Navigator.

    Did you try scanning using Image Capture?
    Otherwise, check the Canon website for updated software.

  • Canon Pixma MP470 all in one scanner printer "scan fail"

    I found earlier posts that described similar problems as mine, they were marked as answered. I continue to have problems even tho I have followed earlier instructions from other members i.e. PAHU.
    I am trying to use a Canon MP470 printer connected by USB cable to my iMac. I don't use it much and it has worked unreliably in the past. Today all scans fail except one which to me would mean that I have installed the correct driver for OSX 10.6. I am not sure if I have deleted the old preset and created a new preset for the new driver correctly. I hate to say it but I am a little unsure how to go about this. I don't remember having as much trouble before I upgraded to OS 10.6.3.
    If anyone has some suggestions or instructions, I sure would appreciate them.

    Okay, the Presets in this post did refer to the Printer preset. The poster had a black and white preset they had created with a previous OS and was trying to use it on Snow Leopard, which did not work because the printer driver was different on the new OS. This does not apply to the scanner portion of your MP470.
    As for checking the scanner driver version, this is not an easy task. But the new driver installation typically overwrites the previous version. If you are not sure which driver install you did last, I suggest you run this v13.9 installer again. to ensure it is what you are using.
    I would also suggest you have MP Navigator v2.04 or later installed, as earlier versions may not be that compatible with Snow Leopard. Again, running the newest version of MP Navigator installer should overwrite an older version.
    If you have the latest MP Navigator and it is still not scanning correctly then please reply. At least you now know about Image Capture so if you did find that MP Nav stopped working, you are not totally stumped

    I bought a Canon MP600R multipurpose printer from Apple Store UK and installed the drivers on my iMac (connected through ethernet cable via a SpeedTouch router/modem) and PowerBook (connected wirelessly). All seemed ok but I used disk utility and found screenfuls of permission corrections and, more importantly, disk verify revealed errors that I had to correct using an external drive. This was on both machines. Apart from that, I am very impressed with the MP600R.
    Anyone else had this problem?
    Geoff.

    Paul,
    Thanks for your reply. In running DU verify disk reported an error on exit (I can't remember the point it failed but it was almost complete according to the progress bar). As I said, DU couldn't repair it itself so I used a separate start-up disk. I check my disks probably once a week on average with DU and very occasionally see volume header errors etc but because this happened on both iMac and PB I can't believe that it wasn't the installation of the Canon software. I wasn't having trouble with the Macs - it was just something I stumbled on in my routine DU tidying.
    Permissions repair was just screenfuls of printer-related stuff.
    I've sent a note to Canon but no response yet. Generally I'm a fan of Canon and have had no trouble in the past so this was a bit surprising.
    Did you install MP600R software? I'm never sure that it's necessary as Macs tend to have a lot of drivers pre-installed. However, mine didn't seem to have the Canon IJ network kit so I used the CD provided.
    Cheers,
    Geoff.

  • Reganining (Wireless) Network Scanning after 10.8.2 update

    Up to 10.8 I hab no issues printing and scanning wirelessly through my Canon MP620 whoch is connected directly to my Wireless network. They showed up as two devices (Printer / Scanner) in my System Preferences.
    However, after updating to 10.8.2 - though the scanner was still there in the system prefs - it just didn't wotk anymore and would not be found.
    the scanner worked well, since when connected directly to the Mac it showed up immediately and worked fine.
    I tried a couple of things that didn't help before I came across the solution.
    First, what didn't work:
    - updating drivers through software update
    - updating drivers through CANON
    - reconfiguring the Printer/Scanner through Canon LJ Network Tool (Version 4.0)
    - Restarting, rebooting machine, Printer etc.
    What did help finally: Restarting printer system (right-click in print/scan prefs) and reboot.
    Now the printer as well as the scanner showed up and could be re-added.
    OPne more glitch I had to overcome was that the scanner was detected, yet it gave me a communication error that went away, after I printed the first page.
    Now, everything works as expected.
    Since there is a lot of discussions about this going on I thought I'd share this.

    Very strange, you're not the only one with the old build#... I wonder...
    Hmmm, did you try the direct download & install method?

    I think that's it, but shows the original date!?

  • Please can anyone help. I am trying to reconect wirelessly my Macbook pro laptop to a canon mp600r printer ?

    HI.Can anyone help please. I'm trying to wirelessly reconect my Mac book pro laptop to my canon mp600r wireless printer. I had it working once but after having secured my linksys router ( set a password ) it no longer conects wirelessly but it works with a cable.

    You need to run through the wireless network connection wizard on the printer.  Try looking under Menu or Setup choices on the printer's LCD.  It should be no different than what you did initially with it, except this time when you pick your WIFI network from the available list, it'll ask you for a password, at which point you type in what you set it up when you secured your network.  Once you've done that, your laptop will see it again... you shouldn't have to reload any drivers or add it back on, it'll just see it again since it's just the network connection that's broken.
    BTW, I hope you chose to secure your WIFI network with WPA2/AES encryption.  If not, you might as well take the time now and just reconfigure it again to secure it with that and then fix your printer connection.  It's the most secure.
