Canon MP610 installation

I purchased the Canon MP610 after reading rave reviews (and supposedly how easily it installs with OSX!).
The problem: I seem to have misplaced the installation CDs and none of the drivers or software I've downloaded from Canon are working. Even after reinstallations. This monster of a printer/scanner machine just doesn't recognize my Macbook when it's plugged in.
After extensive Googling and research, I still can't figure it out. I'm hoping someone here has used this popular Canon all-in-one with OSX 10.5.2 and has some tips?

I'm still fighting to get the scanning part done. Here's what you need to take from canon-asia :

Is the mp610 scanner part detected by sane (scanimage -L) ?
Did you modify the installed files :
  /etc/udev/rules.d/80-canon_mfp.rules
and
  /usr/lib/bjlib/canon_mfp.conf
to add the mp610 scanner ? (udev needs then to be restarted => better to reboot the computer)

  • Can't load drivers for Canon MP610 onto new iMac since loading Leopard

Hello, all you amazingly helpful folks.
Bought new iMac + Canon MP610 yesterday. Successfully installed printer on 3 Macs and a PC, and all was well.
Then--discovered that Leopard DVD was hiding in the box. So, installed Leopard uneventfully. Then--found that scanner wouldn't respond to any commands, and subsequently, I could no longer print from the new iMac ONLY (other Macs still printing fine).
So--I deleted all Canon printer-related folders on the new iMac, and tried to re-load the drivers from the Canon CD. MP Drivers won't load. Keep getting FAILURE message. Tried re-booting, unplugging, in all combinations. Printer still works from the other Macs. Maybe loading Leopard after the original MP610 installation confused things??
    What to do next?
Also--NO DRIVERS available for MP610 on Canon web page.
    Any assistance much appreciated!!!
    Thank you.

You may have already done this so forgive me if you have, but I would try deleting the contents of the /Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinters folder. I would then navigate to the /Library/Receipts and delete the Canon MP610 xxx.pkg file.
Then control-click on the Printers list in Print & fax and click on "Reset printing system..."
Then empty the Trash, unplug the MP610 USB and restart the iMac.
Then I would install the MP610 v6.91 OS X driver. I found it via the Canon Australia web site (http://www.canon.com.au/products/allin_one_printers/all_in_one_printers/mp610support.aspx).
Once the installation is complete, reconnect the MP610 to the iMac and wait. The printer should automatically appear in the Print & Fax application.
Also, in future, you should be posting this on the Leopard printing forum...

  • Canon MP610 - MP Navigator EX will not open - crashes

So I bought my MP610 yesterday, came home, unpacked and set it up, installed software and drivers - all I want to do is scan something important but MP Navigator EX refuses to open. I went to the Canon site, downloaded and installed latest drivers etc. but the result is always the same... whenever i double click the MP Navigator EX application I get a message saying -
The application MP Navigator EX 1.0 quit unexpectedly and when I click on the option to Reopen I get -
The application MP Navigator EX 1.0 quit unexpectedly after it was reopened
    - This is the Error Report -
It's 8 pages long so I think it's best not to post it! However, these are the first two lines -
    Exception: EXCBADACCESS (0x0001)
    Codes: KERNINVALIDADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x58000000
If anyone can divine error reports I would be happy to post the lot!
Please help - it's so frustrating to buy a product and follow all the instructions to the letter and then not be able to use the machine!
    Cheers

    Hi PaHu,
I think I'm getting myself into the deep and sticky here. I've not used Image Capture before so I read through the Help files before I started - it seemed quite straightforward and I was able to set Adobe Photoshop 7 as the app. that the print colour icon on the MP610 'links' to (i.e. the button that is either 'colour' or 'Black') I also changed the field next to 'Automatic Task" from Preview.app to Adobe Photoshop 7. However, as soon as I clicked on overview and selected the area I wanted to scan (even though I had two photos on the platen I could only select an area of one of them - is this normal?) and then clicked the Scan button I got the message advising 'The application Image Capture unexpectedly quit. Nothing else is affected blah blah blah.
I went to Finder and double clicked Image Capture, this brought up the Scan dialogue window headed 'Canon MP610 Series' The fields are -
    Download to:
    Name:
    Format:
    Automatic Task:
    Occurs after scanning
Then there are two buttons at the bottom of the dialogue box - the one on the left says Options...
the one on the right says Scan...
Clicking either of these buttons causes the return of the dreaded message 'The application Image Capture unexpectedly quit etc. etc.
It seems that whether I use MP Navigator EX, Preview or Image Capture as soon as I try to Scan it causes the app. to 'unexpectedly' quit. I've never had something like this happen before so I'm not sure what could possibly be causing it.
Should I uninstall the whole Canon Utilities folder and start from scratch - I just can't work out what's going on at all.
I'll be back on the boards later this morning but that's it for me for tonight!
    Cheers

  • Canon MP610 printer driver

After updating to OS 10.8.3 on my iMac 27 I can no longer use my Canon MP610. This printer has ALWAYS worked with Lion and Mt. Lion all versions. When I go to print a document there is no printer available. When I try to add my MP610 there is a message that says
"The selected printer software is available from Apple. Click Add to download it and add this printer."
Upon clicking add another windown says
    "Setting up Canon MP610 series"
then goes into finding software mode and the progress bar gets about half way and this error message appears:
"Can't install the software for the Canon MP610 series because it is not currently available from the Software Update server."
I have downloaded the Mt. Lion driver from Canon, installed the package successfully and it still wants to go looking for the driver on the Software Updarte server; unsuccessfully. After an hour on the phone with both Apple and Canon, no one has a solution.
Why cant the OS recognize the manually downloaded and installed driver that already exists on the hard drive as it has always done? It's as if it is now programmed to only go the the Update server to look for the software and it's not there. Perplexing. USB printers are supposed to be plug and play.
I have noticed that Apple has removed all Canon printers from the Apple Store. What happened? Has Apple abandoned Canon or is it the reverse.
    Thanks in advance.

This issue, which can happen to any brand of printer, can often be resolved by resetting the printing system.
As for Canon and Apple, the Australian store is still selling Canon AirPrint printers.

  • Canon MP610 not found

    Hello, everyone!
I bought a Canon MP610 a few months ago and only recently tried to install it. I installed the drivers back when I was running 10.5 and couldn't access the printer from my Mac, via USB or otherwise. Whenever I went to 'add new printer' I just couldn't find it anywhere. Having heard something about the improved printer drivers in 10.6, I upgraded and had the same problem. I just couldn't find my printer listed anywhere on my Mac.
Since then, I've scoured many internet discussion boards, including this one, for solutions. I've downloaded just about every MP610 driver I can find from the Canon website and from the Apple website. I've installed them all, rebooted, and still nothing.
I'm fairly Mac literate, but nowhere near an expert, so I'm hoping one of you will come along and say, "Oh, well you just need to do this..." and everything will be fine again. Any help is much appreciated, and feel free to state the obvious, just in case I've missed it.
    Many thanks,
    Stephen

    Hello Stephen,
Given that the printer cannot be seen by the Mac, and the only connection method is via USB, then you may have a faulty USB. That is assuming you are connecting the printer directly to the Mac. Your opening post where you mention 'via USB or otherwise' makes me wonder what you mean by 'otherwise'.
If you are definitely connecting directly to the Mac via USB, then open the System Profiler application and under the Hardware items you will see USB. Select this and see if the MP610 is listed under any of the USB busses. If it is not, then the cable is a likely cause or the printer itself is faulty.
If the printer is displayed, then it should also appear when you select to Add the printer queue and use the Default view. Is this happening?

  • Canon MP610 crashes Freehand MX - PLEASE HELP.

    Hey Everyone.
I just bought the Canon MP610 Inkjet printer.
*Day 1, I installed all the supplied Canon Software, drivers etc.*
Tested the printer from Freehand MX, Apple Mail, etc - and it worked brilliantly.
*Day 2, Freehand MX started acting up.*
When I open the print dialog box in Freehand MX and hit the "ADVANCED" button -
I only get the very basic print options. Previously I got all the options where I could select papersize, cutmarks, registration marks, etc.
*Freehand also crashes straight after I hit the print button!*
I have trashed Freehand MX and re-installed it from crash and I still get the same problem.
I'm thinking that it's a PPD issue, but I'm not smart enough to be sure.
Any advice on this problem will be greatly appreciated.
    THANKS.

  • Borderless print with Canon MP610 impossible ?

    Hi all,
I've just bought the new Canon MP610, but can't find how to print without borders.
For instance, in Safari or any other application, when I choose print, then the "borderless printing" menu, the cursor is greyed. So impossible to print borderless.
Any idea please ? Thanks !

You need to download the software called "Easy Photo Print" from the Canon web site.
I just bought the Canon MP610 also and I found out about this software while I was doing my research for the printer. At the Canon web site just go to where you would go to download the drivers for the MP610 and thats where you will find the software for download!

  • Canon mp610 communication error

I have a Canon MP610. I keep getting the message that a communication error has occured. The printer is connected with an usb cable directly to the imac.
I already installed the latest drivers from the website of Canon (10.42.3.0). It is possible to print, but scanning doesn't work.

Not sure if your issue has been resolved, but I faced a similar issue and the problem turned out to be that I was using two USB cables (one 6' and one 10' extension). Once I moved the MP610 closer to my iMac and used only the 6' cable, scanning was successful.
The strange thing is the two USB cable problem only occured on my iMac running OS X 10.7.2. Using the same two USB cables on my MBP and PBG4 running OS X 10.5.8 is not an issue.
    Good luck.

  • Connect new Mac Pro to Canon MP610 w/ usb

I want to connect my new Macbook Pro by usb cord to an existing Canon MP610 printer.  What driver software do I download?  The Canon site has 3 options.  Then 3 more options for another function.  I'm confused.

Plug it in to your Mac and wait to see what happens, in many cases there will be nothing for you to do.

  • Can't print with Airport Extreme and Canon MP610

Can anyone suggest a way around this?
I am unable to print using my new Canon MP610 multifunction printer when connected via my Airport Extreme, but I can print when connecting the printer to my computer directly, not using the Airport Extreme. After several hours of frustration, updating drivers and firmware, etc, I contacted Canon and received an email back stating:
    "MP610 is not supported by
Canon with a wireless connection through an Apple Airport. This does
not necessarily mean that it will not work, but we are not able to
    provide configuration and troubleshooting information."
Last summer, my daughter was able to use the same Extreme to print wirelessly using her Mac Book Pro and her Canon MP600 multifunction printer (note - different printer model).
Sounds like Canon isn't saying it won't work, but they cant' help.
If anyone can offer a suggestion to work around this, I'd appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Doug

The most comprehensive set of troubleshooting instructions for printing problems involving Airport printers is found at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107418
It is possible your printer simply cannot be made to work in this manner, and is more often than not a problem with multifunction printers.

I have canon mp610 printer connected to my mac lion pc...It is always offline and i don't know how to fix this problem.

Does File > Work Offline has a check mark when that happens?
You can try to create a new Boolean pref with the name network.manage-offline-status and set the value to false.<br />
Right-click on the about:config page to open the right-click context menu and use "New > Boolean" to create a new Boolean pref.
    Name: network.manage-offline-status

  • Scanning through the Time Capsule with a Canon MP610

I have searched the forums and seen plenty of posts about this very same topic. I can scan when my Canon MP610 is connected via USB to the iMac but I cannot scan when it is connected to my time capsule. Canon customer support said I should seek help via Apple and I havent been able to turn anything up. I wont be buying a new printer again for a while, so what can I do?
    Chris

Hello navyvet04. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Is there going to be an update that you know of or is this a hardware issue?
As far as I know Apple has not reported on, whether or not, they will provide an update that will support scanners or the scanning feature of multi-function printers on the AirPort USB ports.
If all else fails this will work with a networked printer through Ethernet?
Now that might be possible if the printer has the appropriate Ethernet capability and support network scanning.

  • Can't Install Printer: Canon MP610

I recently got a retina macbook pro (13 inch, 2014 version), and am having trouble connecting to my Canon MP610 printer. I have the printer connected to the laptop through USB. When I go to add a printer, the laptop detects the printer as "Canon MP 610 series." However, when I try to choose a driver there is no built in driver that is for this printer. Additionally, I went to the canon website ( http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_s eries/pixma_mp610#DriversAndSoftware) and it states " There is no driver for the OS version you selected. The driver may be included in your OS or you may not need a driver."
The "Add" button is greyed out until I choose a driver, but there is no correct driver for me to select. Do you have any recommendations on how I could fix this?

    Enderx1x,
Follow the advice presented in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWnYeAniGUo ...it worked for me. Although the title suggests a Mavericks fix, I found it to be successful using Yosemite.

  • Canon MP610 scanner

As of 2.40 pm (Cdn) customer support confirmed that the Navigator 1.0.4 will not work for the MP610 with Leopard and to wait for an update.
    I wonder how much longer.....
As of the CD Label-print software available at Canon.UK: not for Canada (in other words, in the UK an MP610 owner can print directly on CDs but not in Cdn and possible not in the US).

I have the Canon MP600, so yes, we just have to wait for the update.
It should be pretty soon, so keep checking back.

  • No Driver for Canon MP610 printer

Hello! I recently updated to Leopard. When I went to print using my Canon Pixma MP610 printer I received a message that “no printer was selected.” I then selected to add my printer but then a follow up request asked to select a driver or printer model. The drop down listed the Canon Pixma MP500 & MP 700 but not the required MP610. What should I do? Please help. Mike

    Hi
Get your printer software from the Canon website direct and install. I live in the uk so make sure you select your country correctly. For uk drivers and software go-to http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010488.asp
