Canon MP620 10.5.6

Posting this here as it may be more appropriate than the original location
The printer is network attached. I can still scan over the network. The printer shows up in CUPS and I can even print a test page from the web interface. The printer does NOT show up in the Print & Fax interface. When I attempt to add it by clicking More Printers and selecting Canon IJ Network the printer does show up, but when I click Add nothing happens.
I tried reinstalling the drivers off the CD to no avail. Then I tried the newer ones on the website which also did not work. I verified permissions and the disk. Pretty much all the standard trouble shooting stuff; The printer is working just fine with a Windows Vista SP1 system, and worked with my two mac computers prior to the update.
I did try to add the printer by selecting IPP, choosing localhost:631 and selecting Canon MP620 series driver. CIJAutoSetupTool explodes with the garbage below. Any help would be appreciated in getting this repaired...

I am going to System Preferences>Print & Fax>+>More Printers>Canon IJ Network
Under Product is listed MP620 series (00:00:85:e8:37:81) and under Type is listed Canon IJ Printer. I highlight it and click Add. At that point nothing happens and the printer is not available.
This is happening on my Macbook Pro running 10.5.6 which had the print drivers installed previously, as well as a clean Macbook Air that has basically nothing on it; it didn't even have the printer driver prior to trying to me having problems. I had already updated it to 10.5.6 with my MBPro and decided to try to install the printer driver and it has the same problem; that's from a clean install having never had it or any other printers installed.
I have been watching top run and the most closely related and last thing I see run is BJPrinter with this long command line. I have no idea; but the printer won't even print via USB anymore.

  • How to get a canon mp620 to work with mac wifi on os 10.5.6

    Hi y'all
This is simply a summary of the steps outlined by PAHU and Kappy on the tiger print & fax page who are the big brains here that explained the steps that worked for me on Mac OS 10.5.6. Thanks and respect to those guys.
First thing to understand is the printer doesnt create its own wifi signal for the mac to pick up ( which is what I was expecting) it hooks up via your home wifi set up for which you need a wireless router. If you don't have that you are in a no go situation and will probably want to kill someone.
So here goes (this may take a while!!)
    1) Got to System Preferences>Internet&Network>Sharing
    check internet sharing
    2) Open Network Utilities in Applications when you are attached to your WiFi network, choose Info (the left most pane) and check what the IP address assigned to your wireless router for your home network. mine came up under Network Interface (en1) and was 192.168.0.1 for the router. You can also check this in System Preferences>Network>Airport>Advanced>TCP/IP. Check the subnet mask there too.
    3) Install the drivers for the Canon MP620 (i tried at first having used the Cd and then downloaded ones from he canon website. Now it works - this is probably relevant. PAHU says you need the Canon IJ Network tool v 2.66 to work!!
    4) Connect the switched on printer via USB.
    5) Go to System Preferences>Print & Fax
and if no Canon MP620 shows up add the printer (click +) and choose Canon MP620 and then click on Open Print Queue. Click Utility in the top right hand quadrant.
    6) Choose the USB pane and the printer should show up in the window. Click on it and click Network Settings button. Now you are in Canon IJ Network Tool - whether you realised it or not.
    7) It should ask you to set up the printer for the network. Choose your home wifi name (SSID) from options and enter the password you normally use. I have a WPA and used TKIP (Basic Encryption).
    8) Now you need to manually set the IP address for the router and the printer. In the TCP /IP section of Canon IJ Network Tool set the Router address to be the same as you found in Network Utility - in my case 192.168.0.1. Set the subnet mask to be 255.255.255.0 (you can double check this by looking in System Preferences>Network>Airport>Advanced>TCP/IP). Still in the TCP /IP section of Canon IJ Network Tool set IP Address to something that is the same as your router address except change the last digit eg I put 192.168.0.10 instead of 192.168.0.1. This will be the IP address allocated to your printer. Click OK and it will tell you it is sending these settings to your printer.
    9) If you have been struggling with this for a while you may need to enter the printer Settings section choose Device Settings and then LAN settings and choose reset LAN settings to start again.
    10) You know you are winning when you chooses Wireless LAN settings list and things look similar to what you entered on the mac. So unplug the USB and on the printer choose change wireless/wired to wireless.
    11) Now go back to System Preferences>Print & Fax and delete the Canon MP620 entry by pressing -. Then press + choose More Printers, wait a while and select MP620 in Canon IJ Network when it shows up or choose Canon IJ Network if you get the option . The printer should be there as MP620 with a numerical address next to it. Choose that. You should be off. (NB Repeat step 11 for any other macs on the network after downloading and installing the printer driver to that mac)
    12) Now when you chooses Wireless LAN settings list on the printer it should say active.
    Print away.
BTW Canon support had absolutely no idea at all to do this although endearingkly the guy admitted that the manual wasnt very helpful........they escalated me to a higher level enquiry and said someone should phone me back. When or if they do I will email them this post!!

    OK
    Scenario 1
    (assumes Mobile Me membership)
Set up Apple Mail in your Mac Pro, iMac, ... and set preferences in Mobile Me to include email stuff
Login to MacBook Pro, Air, ... other iMac, other Mac Pro > enter mobile me stuff there and Bongo! Apple Mail on the second machine synchronizes with stuff set in Apple Mail on first machine.
Turn on the iPhone > Bongo! iPhone Mail will show the same email accounts as on the other two machines described above.
One does not need to re-enter stuff for the sake of it. Mobile Me makes it easy.
On the second machine create a new email account or add an existing one to Apple Mail > Bongo! Details updated on the first machine and also on iPhone.
    Scenario 2
(assumes preferences set in Mobile Me for calendars and contacts)
Create new contacts in each of the three machines (that is the first machine, the second machine and the iPhone) > Bongo! Details will be synched across all three machines (okay, iPhone calls them contacts and the other machines call it Address Book but ... )
Create appointments in Calendar or iCal in ... well, they are synched as well.
    Scenario 3
On a PC, away from each of the three machines detailed above. Need contacts and calendars (yes, iCal and iPhone calendar support multiple calendars with an overview summary of all, yep, ALL calendars.
Fire up Safari on the PC (Safari 4 seems sweet) > go to www.me.com > enter username and password of Mobile Me account > Bongo!
I suppose it may also be a time thing in sense that many people, self included, might recall a time when every calendar needed every detail keying in (other computer operating systems running different applications). Sure there were import/export utilities or thunks bet these tended to be at variance with each other regarding ordering of data fields, field parameters and in my own experience a bad import though swift was less reliable than re-keying in the details.

  • How do you setup a canon mp620 to print from a Macbook Pro?

How can i print from my MacBook Pro with a canon mp620 printer? I have the printer setup with a PC via USB and want to add the MacBook as a new computer and print wirelessly. I have tried the installation cd and updated drivers from canon website but it still wont work.

I have managed to get my working. Firstly, I googled the CUPS drivers for the printer and then downloaded those from canons website. I then went to print and scan in system preferences and noticed that the printer had appeared there. I believe it was those drivers that made the difference but i was fiddling for hours before that so i cant be 100% sure how i got it to work.

  • My Canon MP620 just stopped printing text: it can print photos etc but when I send a word document (with a picture) it only prints the picture. Any ideas?

    Hi Everyone:
I have a  Canon MP620 printer connected directly into my Airport base station. So far it has worked perfectly - I can print any type of document over the network from my MacBook Pro.
Yesterday something weird happened. I have a resumé (as a word document) I was always printing but this time all that was printed was a photo and no text. I did a print preview and it looked fine. I converted to PDF and nothing was printed. I then created a brand new word document and again nothing was printed. I have no problem with images but for some strange reason no text  can be printed. All that happens is that the paper goes through and comes out blank.
    Any ideas?????
    Thanks a lot in advace!

    Hi,
Tried all the cleaning programmes and it still will not print...I am lost.

  • Canon MP620 print driver does not work with Snow Leopard

Bought a Macbook & bundled Canon MP620 printer in Dec 08. Two days ago upgraded to Snow Leopard, and I can no longer print (the printer is not recognized), it only sees "Bonjour scanner" (the printer is a multi-function printer, copier, fax, scanner). Spent more than two hours with two different Apple tech support people over the phone; talked to Apple personnel in store. My printer is connected via Ethernet cable to a wireless modem, and I connect to the wireless modem via Airport. The phone tech person insisted that this printer is supported by Snow Leopard, but we reloaded the print driver from the Snow Leopard installation disk with no results. Finally my last resort, which worked, is to go to Radio Shack and get a cable that has a USB-A (printer) to USB-B (Mac) attachment. I was able to print. It is unacceptable for Apple to have this problem, as I went into the store four different times to discuss whether I should upgrade to Snow Leopard, and was told on every occasion that Snow Leopard will make everything run faster, more smoothy, etc. NOT! I want Apple to post a notice on their web site to a) confirm their print driver problems with Snow Leopard and b) to confirm WHEN new print drivers will be released.

Have a look at my last posting re Canon network printing.

i got my MP980 working via Ethernet and wireless. The same procedure should work for your MP620.

  • Canon MP620 stopped printing after 10.5.6 Update

As you may know Elgato no longer supports this device. I'm running Tiger X.4.11 and trying to use an EyeHome that I recently purchased (factory sealed box) on 12/20/2008.
However I do get an error message per the following link:

  • Pages streaks on my canon mp620

When I try to print something in Pages on my 10.7.5 Mac to my Canon MP620 by wireless, it prints streaky and voided and is unreadable.  If I convert the Pages to a pdf, it prints fine.  I cannot figure out why Pages causes the printer to behave this way.  Any ideas?

Not sure why Pages would be behaving like this. With any printing the streaks would suggest an issue with ink supply. This could be from the ink tanks or due to clogging in the print head. So to check the operation of the tanks and print head, open Print & Scan and select the MP620. Then click on Options & Supplies then the Utility tab. Then click on Open Printer Utility. This will open the Canon IJ Printer Utility and via the Test Print menu you can print a nozzle check. This will print small boxes using each colour in the MP620. If there is missing lines in the vertical or horizontal then change the menu to Cleaning and perform some of the cleaning actions available until you get all lines printing in the nozzle test print.

  • Can't get Canon MP620 to work wirelessly with MacBook Pro or AirPort

I bought a Canon MP620 printer at the Apple Store. I specifically asked if it would work wirelessly with my MacBook Pro or AirPort Express since I read comments to the contrary on here. I was assured it would work without a problem and I wouldn't need to upgrade to AirPort Extreme. My Mac is not able to find my printer. Does anyone have any suggestions? I did all of the troubleshooting and nothing works. I have another printer plugged into my AirPort Express so I can't plug this one in (was told at Apple Store that I wouldn't need to).

    Hi magcat72,
As BDAqua has mentioned already, you need to configure the wireless network settings first. This is done by connecting the Mac directly to the printer via USB. But before you do this, stick the MP620 CD into your Mac and install the drivers and the Canon IJ Network utility. Once these have been added to the Mac, you can then connect the 620 to the Mac. This should automatically add the printer to your printer list (in Print & Fax). If it doesn't, then you can add the printer manually, by clicking the + and using the Default view.
Once you have the printer queue installed, you can open the queue and click the Utility icon. This will display the MP620 connected via USB. Select it and then click the Network button. This will now guide you through connecting the MP620 to your wireless network.
Once you have completed the network configuration for the printer, you can turn it off and unplug the USB cable from your Mac. You can then move the printer to where you want it to reside and turn it back on again.
Now you need to add the network printer queue, as the previous queue was for direct USB. In fact, to save you selecting the wrong printer, delete the current MP620 from your list by using the - (minus) button.
To add the network printer queue, select to Add a printer and then select More Printers. In the top menu you should see Canon IJ Network. Select this and after a short while the printer should appear with its MAC address (a series of numbers and letters separated by colons) in the lower pane. Select the 620 and click Add.
Now you should be ready to print. If any of the above doesn't work for you then please reply.

  • Photoshop CS5 Printing problems on Canon MP620 - why is Quality & Media crossed out?

    Hi
I used to print from Photoshop CS3 on my Macbook Pro 10.5.8 Intel to my Canon MP620 with no problem. Now with CS5 when I press Print Setting the options for Quality & Media (where you select paper type etc.) and the menu options below it are all crossed out and I can't access them.  When I contacted Canon they told me that they do not support 3rd Party Software.
Anyone else had this probelm and know how to fix it?
    Thanks for your help!

It's great that there is a help page for this, and I did previously look for it. Probably didn't use the right keywords. However, after following the instructions for synchronizing color settings (setting "Best Workflow CS5" in Bridge as recommended by Deke), I found the printouts to be exactly the same as before. BTW, it was set by default to North America General Purpose 2 for the suite. I'll have to look into this more tomorrow.
    Thank you,

  • Canon MP620 simply wont go WiFi

    Hey
I've been googling like a mad and reading through all MP620 topics in the Apple Discussions forum without any luck. I'm beginning to wonder if my Canon MP620 is defect.
The printer works when plugged directly to my MacBook via USB. The printer does not work via WiFi after I've put in the info for my Airport Express (802.11n & WPA/WPA2 Personal security) via the print utility tool - I can enter the info but when I try to establish the connection afterwards via the Setup tool I get a "Could not connect to access point".
Since the printer is close to my Airport I figured that I'd give up on the wireless function and just plug it in to the USB on my Airport - but that doesn't work either!! The Airport registers it, I can find the printer when I search for it on my Macbook, but when I try to connect I get an unkown error (-XXXX).
The firewall is disabled on my MacBook and after running through several setup guides I'm getting close to just returning the printer. I haven't had this much trouble with any software or hardware since I was on PC
Any suggestions or guides are welcomened and I'm of course ready to feed you with any information about my system that you might need, please - help!
(btw, how come you make a printer that can't connect to WiFi through a guide on the printer itself, stupid!)

    Hi y'all
This is simply a summary of the steps outlined by PAHU and Kappy who are the big brains here that explained the steps that worked for me on Mac OS 10.5.6. Thanks and respect to those guys.
First thing is the printer doesnt create its own wifi signal for the mac to pick up ( which is what I was expecting) it hooks up via your home wifi set up for which you need a wireless router.

  • Canon MP620 Printer drivers outdated with installation of OS X Snow Leopard

I have a 2009 iMac running OS X 10.6.4. I uploaded 10.6.4 in Feb, and I didn't realize at the time that I could print but not scan with my Canon mp620 (Printer/scanner.) When I used the Canon app "Solution Menu" to scan, I got an error message saying that there were no drivers for my printer/scanner. Following advice I found on the topic, I guessed that the original driver software was the problem, having come with the printer before OS 10.6. I followed PAHU's instructions:
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
    3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse (or right click if supported).
    4. Click "Reset printing system ..."
    5. Restart your Mac
This didn't solve the problem. Now I could neither print nor scan.
Then I went to Canon's online site (following DNC70's solution), but since I was working after hours, I couldn't very well contact customer support. Instead, I downloaded every MP620 driver listed on Canon's site that said compatible with OS 10.6. I now have about eight downloads. With that, I now find that I can scan and not print. I'm not sure what I've done.
Any advice? How do I straighten this out?
    -Michael

    Thanks Donald, that was it!
I knew it'd be something easy.. Now the thing I'd like to know is, how do I get rid of software that is useless to me? I'd really like not to have excess software installed, but I'm not confident that I can just go in and start trashing anything that looks like junk. (If you do that on a Windows computer, you set in motion a diabolical chain reaction that brings about the apocalypse.) I'm a pretty new Mac user. Is there an app that'll do this task?
    Thanks again!

  • Cannot see  Canon MP620 installed printer and Canon IJ Network

I try to install my new printer Canon MP620 on my iMac G5 (10.4.11).
The installation procedure seems ok according the documentation.
When I want to use the printer the "Canon IJ Network" is not available. This option should be present when I click on "More Printers" in the "Printer Browser" (others protocol like AppleTalk are listed).
The Canon MP620 driver is not visible in the driver list.
The printer can be use by other computers (XP, Vista) and is available on my LAN . I can see the printer with the "Canon Network tool" and the network scan function works fine.
I reinstalled, download the last version from Canon web site, repaired authorizations, ... without success.
Any idea and help are welcomed !

The printer is connected with a RJ45 cable 100 MBytes. I can ping it from the mac, the http service of the printer is reachable ... thus I guess this is not a network problem.

  • Canon MP620 Wireless Printer

I have changed wireless networks and upgraded to Snow Leopard on my IMac. As a result, I cannot print to my wireless Canon MP620 printer. I believe I have downloaded the necessary updated drivers and such from Canon but am getting the error "A communication error has occurred." Any suggestions?

    Spinbaby,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Have you tried deleting/adding your printer in the Print & Fax preference pane?

  • Canon mp620 printer with no cd  cannot install

A friend gave me his Canon mp620 printer. Unfortunatly he doesn't have the CD anymore and the software I downloaded isn't compleate for first time use. I anyone can help me please do as I've already spent hours trying to make this work.

You may be stuck as far as the scanning function is concerned. I haven't been able to locate a scanner driver. Can you ask the person who gave it to you to look for the software disc for it?
Edit: One more search led me to this page:

Maybe that one will do it for you? That's the version I'm using.
Don't ask me how to do wireless printing, though. I never figured that out.
