Canon MP990 scanner no longer working

With tech support, I've reset my modem, my router, all my computer settings, and all my printer/scanner settings, as well as downloaded the latest printer driver. My computer can use the printer, but still can't communicate with the scanner function. The scanner appears in preferences lists, selected, but it's grayed out. All this is with regard to wireless connectivity. The scanner connection was fine as of last night, just wouldn't work when I started things up this morning. Help?

I suggest you remove the scanner from Print & Fax and then add it again. When you select to Add and the Default view is selected the MP990 should appear with Bonjour Scanner in the Kind column. Select this and click Add to finish. Now you can open Image Capture, select the MP990 and scan.

    EDIT
I think it's something related to the driver. If i change the driver to another printer model from CUPS the printer works. Prints garbage, but at least works. So this means that we have to wait for a new driver or what?

Since upgrading to Mavericks, my Canon MP980 printer no longer works. I've tried deleting the printer and adding it again. I've downloaded the driver software from Canon. My Mac dropbox tells me "the selected printer software is available from Apple", but when I click to download it, the process ends with my mac saying the software is not currently available from the software update server.

Open Finder and click on Go > Go to Folder. Then type
    /Library/Printers/Canon
and press Enter. This will show the BJPrinter and iJScanner folders. You could try moving or trashing this folder and then installing the driver that you downloaded from Canon again.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
There are two Applications folders: /Applications (in the root level of the hard drive) and ~/Applications (in your user folder).
If you have a look at the bottom part of the screenshot, you can see where Chess is stored, and it indicates that it's stored in /Applications, so you are looking for applications in the wrong folder.
Open a Finder window, go to Finder menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > Sidebar, and mark Applications. Then, close the Preferences window and you will be able to access to the Applications folder in the Finder sidebar. Another option would be to go to View menu (on the menu bar) and type:
    /Applications

  • HT6114 HP Office Jet Pro 8500 Scanner no longer works with Mavericks upgrade

The following link to the HP Support site indicates that scanning is still supported for the OfficeJet Pro 8500 using Mavericks but also indicates that "you may need to scan in a different way than you did before you installed Mavericks." • My USB ports and fingerprint scanner no longer work...

This problems requires a bit of exposition and I'm bad with computers so bare with me. A few months I noticed my USBs were not working on my computer, So I tested the same USBs on another computer and they all worked so I knew something was wrong with my computer. I decided to try some "solutions" online and only made the problem worse. Before my computer would at least recognise that there was a USB and try to do something with it, only to fail miserably. If I remember correctly it would say something like "failed to install device drivers".Ever since I tried those "solutions" all it does now is make a noise when i plug in a USB. Oh and my fingerprint scanner no longer works. I remember messing around in the Device manager and messing around with things. Here is what I noticed. under the USB controllers tab there is a list that looks like this Universal Serial Bus Controllers  HP Webcam  Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controllers  Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controllers  Unknown Device  Unknown Device  Unknown Device  Unknown Device I'm certain I've done something horribly wrong...My question to you is...1. How can I fix this?2. in the event that I am unable to fix this, is it possible that restoring the computer to factory settings would do the trick?

Hello 15lrobin  It would be more helpful if you tell us what computer model number you have and what the operating system is, so that the info we give can be more precise.

  • Canon MP 780 scanner no longer working w/ Mountain Lion

Okay, I've put in my time (four flippin' hours) to try and figure out what to do about my scanner no longer being supported in Mountain Lion. Canon is incredibly unhelpful (tried to get a number for support, but they don't give me an option of what number to call for my printer . . . not listed on the website). Tried finding MP Navigator 3.0, but it's only avaiable overseas (?! Not to be too ugly of an american, but what's THAT all about?!).
Am I just SOL? I *hate* the idea of throwing a perfectly good printer away!
I will never, ever upgrade again until I absolutely have to. I've spent about 10 hours recovering from this "upgrade" to ML (including seven hours on the phone with support, plus two trips to the apple store where they erased and reinstalled, check hardware, etc.) . . . and then I run into hassles like this. First world problem, I know, but still . . .
    Sigh,
    Dave

I was hoping to avoid paying $40 for VueScan (rather pricey), which is pretty much what the printer is worth. I find it annoying that Brother is unwilling to upgrade their software, thereby encouraging yet another printer to be added to the enormous pile of e-waste that we're generating.
Next time I'll just avoid upgrading the OS. It wasn't broke, and this sure didn't fix it. But thank you for trying to help.
Are there any other software scanning packages that are available besides VueScan?

  • I recently install Lion OS on my iMac and just found out that my Canon 4400F scanner won't work with Lion, what can I do to get it working again?

I am having trouble with some of my previously installed software before installing the New Lion OS. I just found this evening that my Canon 4400F Scanner will no longer work with the new OS. I need to know if there is a solution for this short of buying a new scanner? I am also upset that my Microsoft Office Professional will no longer boot as well. Anyone know why this took place?

If it will not longer work due to Lion, it's most likely becasuse no drivers for Lion have been released.  No way to get aroud it other than going back to Snow Leopard.  MS Office wont work if it is '04 or earlier becasue it is a PPC application.  Mac switched from PPC to Intel in 2006 and created the Rosetta emulator to allow companies to make their software compatable or allow users to buy new software.  After 5 years, Rosetta support was dropped, with the release of Lion.  No way to get this software to work with Lion.

  • Fingerprint Scanner no longer working in Windows 10

Hi, I just updated from Windows 7 to the Windows 10 technical preview (10130).  The fingerprint scanner on my laptop no longer works. In Windows 7 when I used it with LastPass, it worked well. Now, it does not seem to register a swipe. I tried to grab the latest drivers from the HP support site, but that did not seem to solve the issue.  Product number: A3E82AV Thanks.

Hi , I understand that you are having some troubles with the fingerprint reader on your system, after installing the Windows 10 tech preview. You may want to try updating to the current build which is 10162. Each update tends to have a series of fixes and new features, ( and sometimes a few more issues). Currently the only drivers for Windows 10 tech preview, are a part of the operating system. Also please read the following post Welcome to the HP Windows® 10 Technical Preview discussion board. by . It includes general information about the Tech Preview as well as links to the various Microsoft pages for preview. Also if you wish to get the free upgrade to the release version of Windows 10, when it comes out, you will probably want to go back to your original factory operating system, to qualify for it. I hope this helps.

  • Canon 5600f scanner doesn't work with Snow Leopard

Please someone help - I made the mistake of upgrading to snow leopard. My new Canon 5600f scanner now does not work. Pop up says it has wrong driver. OK.. Downloaded EVERY Canon driver possible + the updated Navigator EX 2.0 software. Note I HAVE downloaded these files, specifically for this model of scanner, specifically for snow leopard: http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010652.asp. I have rebooted the mac about 4 times. Please, what am i doing wrong?!

    Pahu,
I too upgraded to Snow Leopard last night and have been having trouble with my 5600F all day. I'm glad I can still use the scanner in the Image Capture tool, but I would like to use the MP Navigator EX as well. I downloaded:
    Scanner Driver 14.8.2
    ICA Driver 1.1.1
    ver Solution Menu 1.4.0
    MP Navigator EX 2.0.4
    MP Navigator EX 2.0 Opener
    and On Screen Help 1.10
The download area for the MP Navigator EX 2.0 Opener reads "In Mac OS X 10.6, you will need to set up MP Navigator EX 2.0 Opener with Image Capture before scanning using the Operation Panel or Scanner Buttons on the machine."
I'm having trouble setting up the opener in Image Capture. The scanner still scans beautifully through Image Capture, I would just like full functionality back. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Canon LiDE35 scanner won't work with latest CanoScan software

I upgraded my MacBook Core Duo (2006) to Snow Leopard this weekend. All fine except even after loading the latest Canon Driver (lide35osx7721en.dmg) and restarting, then using CanoScan Toolbox 5.0.1.3 -- I get the message "Can't find Driver".
If I go back to 4.5.1.2 version of CanoScan - it works OK! But the 5.0.1.3 software is easier to set, gives lots of choices - it should work, right? Has anyone tried this or can anyone comment. (I never got 5.0.1.2 nor 5.0.1.3 to work with Leopard either - but hadn't updated the DRIVER - now I have but it still can't "Find" the driver!)
Thanks for any comments here - at least I can scan - and sure, maybe I could update this 5 year old scanner - but it works great!
    Best regards,
    Steve Schulte
    Tuesday 27 April 2010

    Hi Steve,
The Canon Australia web site is only showing v4.5.1.2 of CanoScan Toolbox for the LiDE35 (same version for Windows and Mac). There is no mention of v5.0.1.3 being supported by this model so this could explain the application is unable to locate it. The applications typically have a built-in list of support devices and if the 35 is not in this list then it won't work. Again with reference to the Canon web site, the LiDE 600F and 70 show v5.0.1.4 of CanoScan Toolbox. Later models, such as the LiDE 100 and 200 released last year, don't use the Toolbox application. Instead they work with MP Navigator or OS X apps like Preview.

  • Pixma scanner no longer working [Solved]

This worked flawlessly about a month ago- so there are no sane packages to downgrade in hopes of solving this problem. Sane detects the scanner just fine (cups printing still works with this multifunction and it scans fine in Windows- so not a hardware issue).
Anyway, found some people with similar problems who use Ubuntu, with no solutions yet, so I figured I'd see if any Archers also had this problem with other Canon Pixma multifunctions.
    [root@desktop jjohnson]# scanimage -L && scanimage -T
device `pixma:MX860_192.168.1.5' is a CANON Canon PIXMA MX860 multi-function peripheral
scanimage: scanning image of size 640x1050 pixels at 24 bits/pixel
scanimage: acquiring RGB frame, 8 bits/sample
scanimage: reading one scanline, 1920 bytes... FAIL Error: Operation was cancelled
    [root@desktop jjohnson]#
Scanner is found just fine, however it will fail to scan anything (by feeder or flatbed). xsane gives an operation canceled error as well. This problem also occurs on my laptop.
Anyone else having issues with Pixma based scanners? Any ideas for further troubleshooting sane?
Thanks for any help or commentary

  • HP Scanner No Longer Works with Snow Leopard

    Hi:
I just upgraded to Snow Leopard (OS 10.6.1). I have an HP DeskJet F4280 All-In-One. It used to work great under 10.5.x, but now it will print fine but not scan.
*If I* launch HP Device Manager, and double-click “Scan Picture”, “HP Scan Pro” window opens, but I get the following error: “Sorry, scanner could not be initialized (Scanner not found.)”.
*If I* press the hardware “Scan” button on the top of the unit itself, the power light blinks rapidly for about 10 seconds, then reverts to its normal state, and nothing else happens.
*If I* launch “Image Capture” 6.0(424) I get this error: “No camera or scanner connected”.
*If I* follow the path, System Preferences>Print & Fax>Scan a window opens that reads “HP Deskjet F4200 series” and I click on “Scanner”, but it says “No scanner selected”.
However, “System Profiler” lists “Deskjet F4200 series” under USB High-Speed Bus, and, as already mentioned, the printer works fine.
Any advice to get my scan function enabled again would be most gratefully appreciated. Thank you!

    Doug,
Looks like HP just came out with new drivers today for this printer and HP Scan Pro is back for this and a few other models.
It is going to be very hard to figure out which ones are going to have the Scan Pro and which ones it will work on.
For me, I can no longer follow HP directions on deleting the Hp Device Manager and Scan Pro according to their document.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01846935&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en &jumpid=regR1002USEN
This is getting far too confusing for me and HP printers...
The Scan Pro for many models still does not work but now some of the new ones do...
Listen the HP Architect as he has the best info. Not even HP's website is as up to date...
Good luck everyone with HP printers...
