Canon MX850 No longer working

Hi,
I'm having an issue with my printer... OS X(10.6.1)
It was working fine until day before yesterday... Printer is Canon MX850,
Recognizes printer fine.. the only thing I see that could be different is
when I open up printer utility it says USB in the pull down and not network.
and there is no printer listed here. Printer is in my bedroom connected to my
airport extreme.. (didn't mention this)
I did run software updates two days ago .. I don't know if this has anything
to do with this problem?? Seems funny that my printer stopped working then too.
I've deleted the printer and added it again.. it installs fine.. it's just not
working.. I'm bummed.

Hello Mindy,
Checking the specs for the MX850, it looks like it does not have built-in wireless support (it does have wired support). So, can you confirm you are connecting the printer to the Extreme via USB or Ethernet cable.
Regarding the Printer Utility, if the printer is connected to the USB port of the Extreme, then it will not see the printer when USB (or Network) is selected. For the USB selection, the printer would have to be connected directly to the Mac to operate correctly.

  • Sharing Canon LBP7010C no longer works in Mavericks

I've noticed there's plenty of troubles with network printing in Mavericks. Here's mine:
I have an MacBook Air 2012 and a new iMac, with Canon LBP7010C connected to it. Both computers have the most recent (10.9 compatible) drivers installed and can print via USB. The printer, shared by the iMac, shows up in the printer settigns and everything seems OK.
However, when I try to print from the MacBook Air, the job starts, goes on for a while and then the entire printing queue simply pauses. The printer doesn't even wake up and the job doesn't appear in the Canon's monitor on the iMac, so I assume MacBook has troubles connecting to the iMac and the printer to begin with.
I should add that sharing the printer worked properly under 10.8.
I've tried reinstalling the drivers, removing the printer and adding it again and other typical troubleshooting steps, but to no avail. Is there anything else I could try? Anyone has any luck sharing this type of printer over local network?
    Thanks in advance.

    Follow up:
    1. Selecting Generic PS printer works. Thanks for this suggestion. I cannot set any of the printer-specific settings, but I can print over Wi-Fi when I need it. That's something.
    2. In Japan printer servers made by Silex (C-6600GB and a others) are officially recommended by Canon and listed on their page as compatible with their printers. If I understand correctly (I'm not a specialist), Canon printers require two-way communication between computer and the printer (as the page is being rendered by the computer rather than the printer, compressed and then send to the device) and most generic print servers do not support that functionality.
Unfortunately that means Silex' print servers require special software of its own to connect with a Mac. This software won't install on 10.9 and may be incompatible with Maverics to begin with (it includes a kernel extension). It also isn't clear if the serwer would work with LBP7010c at all, even though it does support this model of the printer on Windows (documentation on the Silex' site is outdated and lists LBP7010C as lacking any Mac driver support from Canon, which isn't true).
This is, coincidentally, the reason why these Canon printers won't work with the Airport base stations either.
    3. Canon is forcing some sort of proprietary printing technology (CAPT) rather than go with standard solutions. Too bad I've learned too late about the related inconvenience. The drivers have worked properly with my 10.8 Macs and only now in 10.9 the fact basic OS X features (printer sharing) are unsuported has come to my attention. I'm waiting for the support to reply right now, but I'm not particualrly impressed by Canon right now and would probably advice against buying their products for Mac.

  • Canon S9000 no longer works with iPhoto 6.0.4

I installed 6.0.4 and now, when I select my Canon S9000 in the dialog box and press Print, another network printer {B&W] is selected. I can print to the Canon from other applications, but not iPhoto. Help??

    Bnaysrl:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The printers you use are kept in the com.apple.print.PrinterProxy.plist preference file. You can download and use Pref Setter to see what printers are listed in it for you and try to edit the list.
Try removing the networked printer from your Print Center and then try a print. If that works then reinstall the networked printer and give it another go.
If those fail try deleting that preference file and then reestablishing connections with your printers.

  • Canon LBP6300dn no longer works after mavericks update?

    Hi
I have a Canon LBP6300dn laser printer that i was happily using over a network until i update to Mavericks last night.
Ive tried various mac drivers for the printer and have been able to get it to physically print but its illegible info - just random lines/marks
of course Canon do not appear to have a specific driver for mavericks!
    Can anybody help?
    thanks

I have now managed to get the Canon LBP6300dn printer working on my network (i.e. I did not use USB at all).
In case it helps others, here are the steps I performed.
    Infrastructure:
My printer is connected by LAN cable to my Airport Extreme.
The Airport Extreme has a DHCP reservation defined for the printer (e.g. fixed address of 10.1.2.3).
I need A4 as the default paper size, so I installed the UK version of the driver (Mac_CAPT_V365_uk_EN.dmg). I do not know if the locale makes any difference.
I orginally set-up the printer  when I used Mountain Lion.
My Mavericks installation on my laptop was clean (i.e. the hard disk was reformatted first)
    Set-up:
The printer was switched on and installation was done on my Mavericks laptop over WiFi.
Double-click the .DMG file and follow the instructions.
Open System Preferences | Printers & Scanners.
Click + to add a new printer, the Add dialog should open.
For me, nothing appeared under the Default tab.
    Click the IP tab.
In the Address: field: I entered the fixed IP address of my printer (e.g. 10.1.2.3).
The IP address should be automatically validated.
The Protocol: Field was set to Line Printer Daemon - LPD.
After a few seconds, the Use: field should display “Generic PostScript Printer”
Click on the Use: field’s menu to display available options and then pick “Select Software …”
In the Printer Software dialog, select “Canon LBP6300 CAPT (UK)” . Or the equivalent for your locale. Click Ok. Note: I could not get the “Canon LBP6300n CAPT (UK)” to work.
For me, an error “Unable to verify the printer on your network appeared”, but I clicked Continue.
I left the Paper Source Options set to none. (I do not have the 500 cassette.)
I clicked Ok to finish the adding of the printer
After this the printer was finally working for me, including duplex printing.
Anyway, I hope this might help others that are struggling with Mavericks and the Canon LBP6300dn printer.

  • Shared Canon MP390 no longer works with Leopard wirelessly

Please Help. I previously had Tiger on my new Macbook and setup a Canon MP390 through Windows SMB. The Printer is connected to a XP machine and shared. Once I upgraded to Leopard, the printer is gone, and I cannot re-install it. I have connected it directly to test the Leopard drivers and the printer was detected and printed right away. I have called Apple Support. They had many suggestions, but none of them worked. If anyone has successfully setup a network printer in Leopard that is physically connected to a windows xp machine, Please Reply. Thanks.

Fixed. Add the TCP/IP print server service on the windows XP machine. Set the service to start automatically. Share the Printer. Then go to IP Printing in Leopard Print Setup and put the desktop's IP address, Printer name, & driver. It worked right away.

  • After Yosemite installation, donloading from Canon S40 no longer works. What can I do?

After installing Yosemite, I cannot download images from Canon S40 using iPhoto or Image Capture. The camera is recognized by both programs, but downloading never happens. I have formatted the SD and also reset the camera download using the camera menu. I can download to an older computer running OS 10.7.4. I have also reinstalled Yosemite to no avail. Is this a known problem? What  can be done about it?

  • After recent upgrade to Snow Leopard, my Canon Printer no longer works

I am not sure that the two are directly related, but the timing suggests they might be.
The printer is the Canon MF4350d USB that I've used for a couple of years with no issues whatsoever. In the Printer Queue, it acknowledges that the Printer is ready.
The error I get is this:
    Error:/System/Library/Printers/Libraries/PrintJobMgr/Contents/MacOS/PrintJobMgr failed
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Printer with the same results.
    Please help.

You have deleted and re-added the printer and reinstalled the latest drivers from Canons website, right?

  • Upgraded to Maverick and printer no longer works

I upgraded to Maverick and my printer: Canon MX850 no longer works.  I downloaded drivers from canon website but did not seem to work

First, delete the driver you downloaded. OS X includes a driver for your printer:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#canon-inkjet
I would delete the printer from the system, restart, and the system should "find" your printer.

I've been working on this problem since yesterday and now i'm stuck. Can someone please help?
    EDIT
I think it's something related to the driver. If i change the driver to another printer model from CUPS the printer works. Prints garbage, but at least works. So this means that we have to wait for a new driver or what?

Since upgrading to Mavericks, my Canon MP980 printer no longer works. I've tried deleting the printer and adding it again. I've downloaded the driver software from Canon. My Mac dropbox tells me "the selected printer software is available from Apple", but when I click to download it, the process ends with my mac saying the software is not currently available from the software update server.

Open Finder and click on Go > Go to Folder. Then type
    /Library/Printers/Canon
and press Enter. This will show the BJPrinter and iJScanner folders. You could try moving or trashing this folder and then installing the driver that you downloaded from Canon again.

  • HT6114 My CanoScan 8600F no longer works with Mavericks- No drivers available from Canon

My CanoScan 8600F no longer works with Mavericks upgrade.  Canon does not offer new drivers.

The Canoscan Toolbox works with Mavericks to scan, copy, etc.
If you have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements the drivers can be installed so one can scan from within those applications.
All the necessary software (CanoScan Toolbox 5.0.1.2 Installer) can be obtained from the Canon site.
And, as Eustace mentioned, Vuescan works.

  • Canon Lide 35 No Longer works in Snow Leopard

Here some more specific results on what happens when you try to scan with the Lide 35 in Snow Leopard.
    1) The ONLY choice is to use image capture. Canon software doesn't work
    2) Detect Multiple images is completely broken
    3) The image size is super small. )i e, the dimensions settings don't work right
    4) You have to increase the resolution to 600 to 1200 in order to "fool" Image Capture into scanning at the proper size
    5) As soon as you select Ovweview a second time, it stops working and gives you a blank scan. You have to log out and back in to get it working.
    6) The only "workaround" I've found is to scan the same dimensions every time at 1200 dpi and edit and save the photo in another app.
I realize the Canon Lide 35 is an older scanner, but please Apple, none of us want to buy a new scanner just because we upgraded to Snow Leopard.
I've spend an hour on the phone with Canon who tried to be very helpful. This happens on all my Snow Leopard Macs (I have three) and it seems clear that this is an Apple issue.

    Hi Tee,
I can confirm what you are saying. I am running MacOS 10.6.2 on MacBook Pro and when I was trying to use my Canon LiDE 35 after installing "lide35osx7721en.dmg" and also "cstbosx5013ej4.dmg" I am still getting the error message "driver not found". The same Canon LiDE 35 still works beautifully with my PowerPC G4 under 10.4.11. - I am not sure whether there is any other software? The only oddity when installing those files I noticed was that "CNQL1208_ClassicNotSeize.kext" would not load...
I have no solution to offer at this stage other than using the old Apple... Anybody any ideas??

  • I did the canon driver update but now my printer no longer works

As part of Software Update, my Canon inject printer driver was updated to Version 3.0.  The printer had worked under Maverick but after the update, it said it wasn't online. I did all the various "solutions" such as resetting the printer, so now I when I try to add the printer back, no printers are "seen" even when directly attached via USB.  I downloaded and reinstalled the Lion Canon Driver but nothing works. I have a Canon MP530.
    I'm on a 2011 27-inch iMac running 10.9.3.

Had a similar situation and this is what I ended up doing:
1 - go to the HD/Library/Printers folder and select the Canon folder
2 - enter Time Machine and go back in time to before you ran the Canon printer driver update.
3 - select the Canon folder and restore.
That got my Canon printer working again for me.

  • Canon MX850 setup/driver help

I recently bought the Canon MX850 with my new iMac. I'm a new Mac convert as well as I've used Windows for as long as I can remember.
Let me first explain my setup and use for the printer. It is connected to my Linksys WRT54G wireless router via the ethernet port. I first connected the printer to my iMac via USB so I could configure the network settings on the printer. I also still have Windows machines hooked up both wirelessly and hard connected to my router. I will be using the printer for office type work and sometimes to print a photo. I do not require the use of any advanced photo/graphics programs such as Photoshop.
Ok, on to my confusion.... I am confused as to which drivers I need to use with this printer. The driver included on the CD is version 7.1 while Canon's support site has a CUPS driver version 10.2. I am unfamiliar as to what a CUPS driver is and if I need to use it. My rudimentary research seems to indicate a CUPS driver is the basic driver set which OS X requires. However, when I reached out to Canon's support team, they are indicating to me that I do not need it unless I do advanced photo printing (see below).
"The CUPS drivers are not necessary to use with any unit that has it's
own standard drivers. For units and applications that do need need
them, it will not offer any higher level of performance than the
    standard drivers."
"The CUPS drivers provide a higher level of translation for high-end
units and 64-bit applications. Typically you will not need them unless
you are printing with a high resolution graphics program. It does not
add any additional functionality or performance in a wireless or any
    other environment."
Now, prior to all of this, I did try to install the CUPS 10.2 driver. First, I installed everything off of the CD including the 7.1 driver and network/scan utilities (I did not install the "fluff" software). Then, I installed the CUPS 10.2 driver without trying to uninstall the 7.1 driver. I did all of this while the printer was still connected to the iMac via USB. When I go into Preferences -> Printer/Fax, the driver version while connected via USB states 10.2 HOWEVER, the driver version while connected only to the router via ethernet port states 7.1. So, this is adding to my confusion as to what driver I need to use.
    Thanks for the help.

Hi Gooter, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Use which ever one works, it only matters if we have a problem... sometimes 2 drivers/setups will confuse thing, but have you tried adding the Netwirked Printer yet?
