Canon MX920 print queue is acting strange.

I have a Canon MX920 that normally works flawlessly.  A few weeks ago, it started having a strange problem.  When printing PDF's, it will occasionaly "hang up" in mid print.  The paper feeds, it starts to print (I can hear it printing), then it freezes for about 30 seconds, after which it spits out the partially-printed page.  The item being printed still shows up in the print queue, as if it's still printing, but it never prints.  Reprinting gets the same results:  about 15% of the page prints, then the paper gets spit out.  Y=The print queue eventually clears. Powering everything off (PC, printer, router) does not clear the problem.  The first time this happened, I spent about three hours trying to get it to work, then gave up and tried again that evening; after sitting for four hours, everything worked again. Today it started doing it again; I can't afford to wait four hours, and I need the printout.  I'm printing via wifi; I ordered a print cable, but I can't wait for it to arrive to print this out. HELP!

  • Hello, I currently have a MacBook snow leapord and i'm trying to connect it with my Canon MP560 printer, i put in the CD and installed everything properly but now when i add a printer it says a Queue already exists, i click continue and nothing happens???

    Hello,
I'm using a MacBook Snow Leapord and I'm trying to connect it with my Canon MP560 printer/scanner.
I installed the CD and followed along with the manual and did everything it asked, at the end it told me it was finished.
So then I went to go print something and an error had occured so i went to the file menu on Microsoft Word for
Mac and clicked Print/Add Printer and then i click on the Canon MP560 series-1 as it was the only one to click on.
When I did it stated that I already has a Queue for this printer and if I'd like to add a new one so I clicked continue and nothing
    had happend. PLEASE HELP
    sincerely,
    Laura.

I would recommend to download the driver appropriate for your system from the Canon webiste or, after installing it, to run software update and it will detect it for you.
If you have the last driver appropriate for your system, you may wish to reset the printing system. To do this, go to Sys prefs/print and fax and, upon clicking minus button, also press Option/alt key. You will be asked to confirm, do it. Then, add the printer by pressing plus button, it should work now.
But, before doing this, download the last good driver, CDs usually contain outdated drivers.

  • I have just been having problems with my Canon MP250 printer and decided to uninstall and re-install the printer and everytime I try to re-install the printer trough preferences and all I keep getting was a message saying "preparing to queue"......

I have just been having problems with my Canon MP250 printer and decided to uninstall and re-install the printer and everytime I try to re-install the printer trough preferences and all I keep getting was a message saying "preparing to queue"...... I then decided to try and reload the Canon printer drivers and for some silly reason I deleted the existing Canon printer drive. Now I cannot load them from the CD provided with the printer or from downloads through the Apple store. If anyone out there could help me I would be greatly appreciated......

These Canon printer/scanner drivers from Apple - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL899 - should work. The MP250 is listed on the support page. Try downloading and installing them.
    Good luck,

  • My G5 recently began to act strange. I could no longer print ton any printer. all of my Adobe software would crash on startup as did Safari. tried to reload the printer software and was denied as I was no longer recognized as the administrator. any fixes?

my G5 recently began to act strange. I could no longer print to any printer and all of my Adobe software and Safari would crash on startup.  attempted to re-install my printer software, but was denied as the computer no longer recognized me as the administrator even though i am the only account on the computer.  Performed a system install (w/ bakup of previous), this seemed to work for about two days and the problem has returned with other software (Excel) crashing on startup.  does anyone have any suggestions?  do i need to erase the harddrive and start over?

I suggest you backup you important data!
I suspect the harddrive is going bad.
Run disk utility. verify disk & verify permissions.
    Run hardware diagnostics.
I not sure of a good way of telling if the harddrive is going bad.  There is software to test harddrive.  Don't know of free stuff for mac.
Considerng that the hd is 7 plus years old this isn't a surprise.
    Suggest replacing hd.
If your not up to that, get an external hd.
You need an external Firewire drive to boot a PowerPC Mac computer [ a few G5's will boot from USB ].
I recommend you do a google search on any external harddrive you are looking at.
I bought a low cost external drive enclosure. When I started having trouble with it, I did a google search and found a lot of complaints about the drive enclosure. I ended up buying a new drive enclosure. On my second go around, I decided to buy a drive enclosure with a good history of working with Macs. The chip set seems to be the key ingredient. The Oxford line of chips seems to be good. I got the Oxford 911.
    Has everything interface:
    FireWire 800/400 + USB2, + eSATA 'Quad Interface'
    save a little money interface:
    FireWire 400 + USB 2.0
This web page lists both external harddrive types. You may need to scroll to the right to see both.

Canon MX920 not responding when hooked up over wifi as WPS printer on Airport Extreme, any ideas?

Ping the IP address of the printer.
If you are doing this from windows, have you installed the airport utility for windows?

  • Previously printed, that is no longer in the queue. canon mp250 printer and windows7

I need to find a priviously printed doucment that is no longer in the queue.  I use window 7 and have a mp250 printer

    Hi andytecpilot,
Documents that were previously in the print queue are not retrievable from memory; once an item has been printed or deleted, there is not a record of it for future use.  To locate the document, you would need to know the name of the document (or some part of the document name) and use the search function of your computer to locate and reprint the document.

  • Pictures print very strangely from Canon MX860, printer or Macbook issue?

I recently purchased a Canon MX860 printer to go with my two-month old Macbook. During setup the printer would not print the head alignment patterns correctly. I do not know if that is a related issue to the picture printing problem I am having.
When I print anything from my Macbook (pictures off my Canon camera or pictures off the internet and even graphics from Canon's site), they come out very odd looking. All the colors are printing and I have checked everything suggested in the printer's online help sections. The problem is that only in certain areas of the pictures are colors coming out reversed or mixed up. For example, I tried printing a picture of my blue-eyed, black and white dog in a snowy landscape with green pine trees in the background. The landscape came out relatively normal looking with white snow, green and brown trees and a light blue sky. My dog cam out with the main areas of her white and black coloring looking normal, but her nostril holes came out white and part of her black nose is pink and blue, while the outer edges of the nose are black like it should be. Her light blue eyes came out solid black while the black "eyeliner" around her eyes is pure white in the printout. The darkest shadows on her face came out with white, blue and pink dots, fading into darker colors towards the outer edges. Her white eyebrow spots came out reversed with the highlights in her fur being black and the shadows being white. But her white muzzle is white like it should be.
I don't get it. How can the printer selectively print some pieces of the same picture incorrectly and some correctly? Did I get the wrong printer to go with a new Macbook? Am I missing some updated driver? Did I just get a dud printer? Please help.

Whether your issue during setup is related or not, I couldn't tell you. However, you definitely want to get that sorted out as it's bound to cause problems otherwise.
Unfortunately, I'm not even sure where to begin troubleshooting for you. Have you tried Canon's website or their support? You might get better answers there.

  • My Canon i560x printer stops in the middle of print jobs

My Canon i560x printer stops in the middle of print jobs when printing via Airport Extreme. Single-page jobs are fine, but the printer sort of runs out of steam on when printing multiple pages. It simply stalls with a flashing warning light, and if I press the resume button it spits the sheet out. The job remains in the queue until I delete it.
This only happens when printing via the base station. If I connect the printer directly, it happily churns away, printing as many pages as I like.
Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

For the record, though, I did actually do the search, ...
    OK, I let you off
    And it's not a Canon- or Tiger-specific
problem, as I've also had similar problems with
different versions of OS X, including Jaguar and
Panther, and also with some HP printers.
Now that is strange indeed. My Canon Pixma 5200 stopped working correctly the minute I upgraded to Tiger. Now I got the 5200R and it works beautifully.
You've probably done all this already, still a few random thoughts:
    - Got the current Printer driver ?
    - Use Airport Express firmware 5.5.1 (*do not* use 5.6 or 5.7!)
    - Make a hard reset of the Airport base
    - Disable the Mac firewall (and set up the printer again)
    - Try all this with another (temporally) user account
    - Repair permission + restart before and after installing drivers
Good Luck and let us know if (and how) you solved the problem.

  • Alien communique, print queue lagging, printer refuses to e-print, can't find with laptop

I purchased the HP Photosmart Plus e-All-in-One Printer - Black (CN216A#B1H) to replace my top-feed printer whose ink was disappearing from retail stores. It is connected to my Mac Mini (OS: leopard 10.5) via USB, and to my home wifi network. I have a pc (OS: XP) laptop that also connects to the internet via wifi network. Here are my problems:
    1. The printer refuses to e-print. I have it set up with hpeprint, and it'll connect to hpeprint occasionally, usually after rebooting. I can print using the apps on the printer, but I can't email ANYTHING to it. I've even spent an hour on the phone with HP's help center, and he's sent stuff to the printer that never printed. It doesn't matter how it's sent--attachment or in the email--or what it is, it just sits in the queue until it fails. I paid more for this feature----why won't it work??
    2. I can't find the printer with the laptop. Now this may be my ineptitude with windows, but even my husband (whose laptop it is) can't figure it out. I can access the printer's url in a browser (http://192.168....you know), but I can't get the Add A Printer wizard to recognize the printer. It wants to go in through shared computers, looking for a printer on my Mini--which, by the way, for some strange reason my router won't let computers on my network access my hard-wired mini. Anyways, that's a headache for another day.
    3. Last night I tried to print a copy of a legal form, and the job sat in the computer's print queue for about an hour before the printer finally started warming up to print. Then it only printed the first half of the first page, spat it out, and gave me (after about half an hour more) a half dozen pages that look like some kind of alien communique. I've actually had it do this to me a couple times in the last day, just randomly printing these pages until I cancel print. Whatthe?
Setup seemed to be remarkably easy. I just plugged the thing in and followed the prompts. But now I'm starting to have buyer's remorse. What in the world is wrong with this printer?? If you can help me clear up one or two of these things, I'd greatly appreciate it, since it means less time I'll be on the phone with Customer Service.

By the way, here's what it printed:

  • Canon MF4400w Printer - "Filter" failed error. Can't scan either.

    Hi,
I work in a wholly Mac environment. We have around 10 plus Macs in the office, most of them running 10.8.3 (the latest I believe). All Macs are able to print to our Canon MF4400w Printer fine EXCEPT mine.
I've had a Canon technician come by. We've installed/reinstalled the canon drivers multiple times, tried via USB/Wireless, and I personally looked up these forums to try and diagnose the problem myself. As far as I can tell, it has something to do with "capdftopdl", whatever that is.
This is a new iMac that was purchase a few weeks ago. I've used migration assistant to transfer my files from my old Mac to this new one via LAN cable. Printing from this Mac has always resulted in the "Stopped. "Filter" failed." error. It has never printed successfully despite trying multiple different drivers.

    Things I have tried:
    1) Some threads suggest that it may be a corrupted Font problem. Followed steps suggested by thread, no luck.
    2) Some suggested it was a setting under network. Followed those steps, still same problem.
    3) Setting paper print size to A4/Letter
    Please help!

Can you reply with your email address, but in the form of user_name at domain_name dot com (dot country if applicable). I have some files to send you to replace the Canon files that are possibly causing the error.
Also, for your reference, you posted in the Lion forum but you have Mtn Lion. If you posted in the Mtn Lion forum I would have got to you sooner.

  • Canon MP560 prints wirelessly ok but scanner is not recognized

Something is going on with the latest Mac OS. Seems to be only with Intel Macs only.Image capture does not recognize either scanner I have.(Canoscan 8400F also).
I see others have broken connections other than Canon also.
Has Apple given an official release about this problem? Some have workarounds that are at programming level, but i'm not going anywhere near that fix. And Twain Sane isn't much of a fix as it doesn't give full capability of scanning like the original program used to run the scanner.I don't want to go through a whole number of steps to get it to work.I don't have Photoshop to make a workaround.
Here is what my friend had to do to get his new and old one to work:
"I am okay now, as I have the older CS3 Photoshop now sitting next to the CS4 version, and I've got the older one running in Rosetta compatibility mode and this lets me run the Canon scanner driver in full 16 bit colour mode. If I only wanted 8 bit colour files, I could just use the Canon utility but for working with restorations of old images, you want 16 bit greyscale (for old B&W pictures) or 16 bit colour mode."

In order to use Image Capture for scanning via USB from either Canon device you may need to update the Canon ICA drivers included with Snow Leopard. The Canon v1.5.1 update can be downloaded via the following link.
    http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0100213301.html
This will update the Canon IJScanner1 package located within the core Image Capture > Devices folder.
For the wireless connected MP560 I don't believe Image Capture can be used. But you can use Preview or even the MP560 Scanner queue in Print & Fax. You will need to install the Canon MP560 scanner driver listed below.
    http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0100204302.html
With regards to using Preview, to see the networked scanner you will have to click on File > Import from Scanner > Included Networked Devices. Then when you click on File > Import from Scanner again, the MP560 should be shown as an available device.
Has Apple given an official release about this problem?
I don't believe there is a known problem with OS X 10.6.4 Image Capture so therefore I would say there is no official release from Apple.
Some have workarounds that are at programming level, but i'm not going anywhere near that fix.
I would suggest that the workaround you have seen, especially at a programming level, would be meant for older models of scanners that have no official support from the vendor. But this is not needed for your scanners as Canon has provided drivers that function correctly on 10.6 for the majority of their scanners and AIO's.
And Twain Sane isn't much of a fix as it doesn't give full capability of scanning like the original program used to run the scanner.
There is no need to SANE. The following link is the Canon provided scanner driver for your CS8400F.
    http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0900334701.htm
I don't want to go through a whole number of steps to get it to work.I don't have Photoshop to make a workaround.
Like SANE, Photoshop is not needed. I am scanning over a wireless network at home with my new MP990 using the Canon MP990 scanner queue without a problem.
And my LiDE200 connected via USB to my Mac works fine also.

Thanks for getting back. I need help here
1 What do you mean by System Information? Is that System Preferences?
System Information is located in Applications > Utilities. It shows lots of information about your Mac, including information about the printer queues.
    dino1335 wrote:
2 When I go to System Preferences and click on the printer LBP6000/LBP6018 there is no information in that window about the URI if I click Open Print Queue there is no information other than the ID of the printer
In previous versions of OS X you did see this information via the Options & Supplies pane for the selected printer in Print & Scan. But with 10.8 this information was removed so know you need to use System Information > Printers to see information about an installed printer.
    dino1335 wrote:
3 If I print a document it just goes to print (it goes through the printer but no information is printed on the paper) there is no print cue so I don't know where to find the information on the URI or what I am supposed to copy
I believe that the document does not print because the print queue has not been created correctly. The CAPT driver requires a specific queue name and if the queue name is wrong then you will not be able to print.

FYI I also have a MacBook Pro (old) with Leopard which I also print to the same printer on and there isn't a problem with that just with this new MacPro which has Lion installed
Not surprised to read that. Mtn Lion has caused some issues for owners of CAPT printers, especially if they upgraded to 10.8 from 10.7 or 10.6.
Since you mention the ability to print on 10.5, I just want to check that you are physically moving the USB cable connected to the LBP from the 10.5 Mac to the 10.8 Mac, rather than sharing the printer from one Mac to the other. Because if you are sharing the printer from the 10.5 to the 10.8 Mac then this can be a cause of your current issue. The CAPT driver does not work when it is being shared to other Mac's.

  • Canon Pixma Printing from a Macbook Pro using Windows XP Home machine

Using my windows xp home machine as a print server. I have a Canon MP480 printer
Installed bonjour on the xp machine.
    Installed the printer and drivers.
    Shared the printer on XP.
Installed the driver on the MacbookPro.
Added the printer using Windows print sharing.
Prints to XP machine so that the print job shows up in the queue on the windows machine.
Printer starts to get ready to print.
    It never prints.
This is a common printer because they give it away at the Mac store when you buy a new Macbookpro.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Usually when you select to add a Windows shared printer (Add Printer > Windows) you get prompted to enter the Windows user name and password. After entering this information you will then see the printer share name. If you are not getting prompted for account information after selecting the sharing computer then your Mac may have cached or saved a previous account used on Windows. Since you mention Guest for a previous attempt, maybe this is being used by the Mac and if that is now disabled on Windows then this could be a cause. So check your Windows accounts to see if the Guest account is still enabled.
The other thing that you can do is open Keychain Access on the Mac and look at the 'login' keychains. Your details for the connection to the PC could be saved here so you could delete this entry and then try adding the Windows printer share on the Mac again.
Once you do manage to see the printer share there is another matter that you need to be aware of. For some printers, the vendor created printer driver does not work when connecting to a Windows shared printer. For these types of connections you need to use either the Gutenprint or PrintFab driver suite.
Gutenprint is preferred because it is free a version is included with Mac OS X 10.6. The one major issue with Gutenprint is that very new models of printers are often not included with the latest release. In this scenario it is necessary to try to find a compatible model for the respective vendor, but this can use a large amount of ink and paper before achieving a successful result.
So this can force you to use [PrintFab|http://www.printfab.net] and the creators do a very good job of keeping up with new model releases. There is a cost involved with the software (€49) but there is a 30 day trial so you can at least test that it works.
