Canon PIXMA IP8720 to my Macbook Pro

I recently connected a Canon PIXMA IP8720 to my MacPro running OS/X Yosemite 10.10.2. As much as I try, I cannot get the printer to product prints of photographs with the correct colors. The colors are way off. I've tried to coordinate the color profiles of the Mac, monitor and printer but to no avail. I have the same printer using a wireless connection to my HP Desktop running Vista and have been able to coordinate the color profiles to the point where the prints are coming out reasonably close to what I would expect, but the quality is not there yet. Since my most current photography software is on the Mac, I'd like to get that working ASAP, but can't find any good documentation that talks to the color profiles supported by OS/X or how to approach setting up printer interfaces correctly. Where can I get this information? Any input that the community could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Barbara, Thanks very much taking the time to respond to my posting. Your input and directions were just what I needed.I accessed the print settings in the pull down menu, setup the print options including the color profile for Elements and the Printer to sRGB, and printed my picture. This resolved all the invalid color problems I was having, but I did notice that there was a hint of magenta overall in the picture. I had read an article that said to use Canon Color Matching instead of Color Sync to prevent that but I couldn't make that change in the pull down menu. I tried in the Presets dialog box but that didn't appear to be possible. Should I make that change as well?
Also, in my travels through Elements 13 I notice under Edit->Color Settings that there were options for No Color Mgmt, Optimize for Screen, for Printing, or ability to chose one or the other (real time I assume). How do those options fit into this scenario?
Thanks again

  • Installing Canon PIXMA MG3170 to my MacBook Pro (OS 10.8)

I'm trying to install my new Canon PIXMA MG3170 printer to my MacBook Pro. I am aware that the bundled software isn't compatible to OS 10.8, and after endless research through this community, I came across several solutions.
I installed it via IP address with HP Jetdirect - Socket protocol and used Canon MG3100 series printer driver. Apple was able to found the software update required for this version and the supposedly latest printer driver is installed. But the following message pops up:
"An error occurred while trying to add the selected printer. Unable to communicate with the printer at this time."
HELP ME! spent 2 hours of resets, deleting .plist files, etc.
This is how the screen looks at the moment:

But the 10.8 printer driver is available from Apple via Software Update. And looking at your screen grab you already appear to have it installed.

You cannot add the printer in this manner. The driver does not support this type of connection, so that is why you are getting the error message. If you want to use HP Jetdirect-Socket as the protocol then you would have to use an alternate driver, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab.
For the Canon driver, you must add the printer using the Canon IJ Network protocol. When you click the plus button in Print & Scan to add and have the Default view selected instead of the IP view as you have shown above, does the MG3170 appear in this view? Usually its scanner component will appear first, showing Bonjour in the Kind column. If you wait several more seconds, the printer component should also appear, showing Canon IJ Network in the Kind column. Do you see this?

  • Canon Pixma Printing from a Macbook Pro using Windows XP Home machine

Using my windows xp home machine as a print server. I have a Canon MP480 printer
Installed bonjour on the xp machine.
    Installed the printer and drivers.
    Shared the printer on XP.
Installed the driver on the MacbookPro.
Added the printer using Windows print sharing.
Prints to XP machine so that the print job shows up in the queue on the windows machine.
Printer starts to get ready to print.
    It never prints.
This is a common printer because they give it away at the Mac store when you buy a new Macbookpro.

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Usually when you select to add a Windows shared printer (Add Printer > Windows) you get prompted to enter the Windows user name and password. After entering this information you will then see the printer share name. If you are not getting prompted for account information after selecting the sharing computer then your Mac may have cached or saved a previous account used on Windows. Since you mention Guest for a previous attempt, maybe this is being used by the Mac and if that is now disabled on Windows then this could be a cause. So check your Windows accounts to see if the Guest account is still enabled.
The other thing that you can do is open Keychain Access on the Mac and look at the 'login' keychains. Your details for the connection to the PC could be saved here so you could delete this entry and then try adding the Windows printer share on the Mac again.
Once you do manage to see the printer share there is another matter that you need to be aware of. For some printers, the vendor created printer driver does not work when connecting to a Windows shared printer. For these types of connections you need to use either the Gutenprint or PrintFab driver suite.
Gutenprint is preferred because it is free a version is included with Mac OS X 10.6. The one major issue with Gutenprint is that very new models of printers are often not included with the latest release. In this scenario it is necessary to try to find a compatible model for the respective vendor, but this can use a large amount of ink and paper before achieving a successful result.
So this can force you to use [PrintFab|http://www.printfab.net] and the creators do a very good job of keeping up with new model releases. There is a cost involved with the software (€49) but there is a 30 day trial so you can at least test that it works.

  • Canon Vixia Backup Drive? Macbook Pro

I have a Canon Vixia HF R10 and Macbook Pro. Want a Backup Drive that I can transfer to directly from Canon, then at a later date take footage from backup drive onto MacBook. I'm traveling and have a single power source in my vehicle. Wanting to dump probably about 500gb while on the road into backup drive(one that doesn't need computer connected to function), and then when i'm done traveling move footage over to macbook and begin editing.
I'm hoping for suggestions on a third party piece of equipment that will play nicely with my canon and macbook. Thanks!

Probably the simplest thing to do (all around, considering cost, portability, reliability, and workflow considerations) is to +record your videos to SD/SDHC cards and store them for later transfer to your MacBookPro/hard drive.+ (Class 4 or higher cards.)
You can put 2-4 hrs on a 16GB card and 4-9 hrs on a 32GB card depending on the mode you shoot (but don't use LP mode unless you absolutely have to, as it's the least quality mode).
There's no USB hard drive that I know of that you could just plug into this camcorder and copy the video. You would need a computer to do it.
(Even if you use a computer to copy the folders/files from the camcorder's hard drive/SD cards, you must copy the entire directory structure from the camcorder's memory, beginning at root, all the way down the directory tree. You can't just copy the .mts files and expect to have usable video. That's one of the many reasons I suggested using SD cards to record & store your videos until you get home and can transfer them to your MacBookPro. If you intend to do this, be sure to pilot it before you depart to make sure the technique works in your case.)

  • Printing to a networked Canon S9000 mkii from a Macbook Pro

I am using a Macbook Pro connected to a primarily PC network in my office. All of our printers are connected to a dedicated Windows machine on the network that hosts the printer drivers. I am able to print to three other printers just fine on this network except for our 11x17 Canon S9000 pro. I've downloaded the latest driver for Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and basically, once I hit PRINT, nothing happens.
If I go to the dedicated PC, it does acknowledge a print job coming in, but shows it as unknown user and just hangs until I have to manually delete it.
Can anyone determine what might be happening?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Not knowing how your office network is set up I would speak to your IT person.

  • Unable to print to Canon iR-Adv C5045 from MacBook Pro that is connected to Windows computer and shared on the network

I am unable to print to a Canon iR-Adv C5045 from a MacBook Pro (OS X 10.9.4) that is connected to Windows NT computer and shared on the company network.  I am connected to the network by ethernet.
I was able to add the printer manually by going to Advanced, Windows printer via spoolss, smb://computer name/printer name and used the Canon iR-ADV C5045/5051 driver.
When I print it appears to be printing but nothing comes out.  I checked the completed jobs from the Print Queue and the job is listed.  Checked the print log on the printer and it isn't listed.  Is there a different driver I should be using for this configuration?

You may not have a choice as to what driver you can use. If the ADV C5045 only has the default UFR2 printer kit, then you will have to use the UFR2 driver - which is what you are using now. If you can access the copier, press the Counter Check button on the control panel. Then on the display you will see an entry labelled Check Device Configuration. Select this and scroll down through the pages. You are looking for an entry called PS. If you see it then the Canon does have the optional Postscript printer kit enabled and this will let you use an alternate driver. One suggestion would be to create the printer again using the same setting that you have done already but this time select the Generic Postscript driver included with the OS rather than use the Canon driver. This will help to determine if the driver is the cause.
If there is no PS option you will have to use the UFR2 driver and this could be the problem, as the Canon drivers don't always work well on a Mac via a Windows share. As a test, are you able to create a print queue directly to the Canon rather than via the Windows share? If you can, then this will let you check if the driver currently installed will work, as there can be settings on the copier that can block/stop you from printing. Assuming that you can print to the Canon with a direct connection from the Mac, then we can work on getting the printing via the shared queue. But if it doesn't print directly from the Mac, then it confirms that it may not be the server and more to do with the copier.

  • I want to connect my Canon EOS 7D to my MacBook Pro and use it as a Monitor

    Hello,
Anyone know how I can turn my MacBook Pro into a Monitor for my Canon EOS 7D HDSLR camera?
    Thanks for any advice,
    fsg
    NYC

I don't think you can without some sort of capture card (very expensive, and because most MacBook Pros don't have a card, you need to use the FW800).  MBP's Thunderbolt port only sends video signals out, you can't attach an HDMI to Mini DisplayPort cable from your camera to the MBP and expect to show video.
You could try a utility like Sofortbild.

  • Is the Canon MF3010 compatible with the Macbook Pro (Mountain Lion 10.8.3)?

A recently bought Canon MF3010 laser printer does not seem to be compatible with my Macbook Pro (10.8.3). Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get it to work? It's not listed in supported software on the site and I tried downloading and intalling some software recently available on the Canon site, but that's not working either.

The MF v10.0.0 driver available from Canon works fine on OS X 10.8.
As for it not being listed in the supported software, if you are referring to the Apple KB article then that is just a list of what drivers are available from Apple. It's not a "only these drivers are supported" list.
So assuming you downloaded and installed the MF v10.0.0 driver, what exactly is not working? Have been able to add the printer but it does not print? Or are you not even able to add the printer?

  • Can you capture while shooting with canon XL2 in fcp on Macbook pro

Is there a way to capture or record directly onto macbook pro hd thru final cut pro, or thru log and capture window while shooting with Canon XL2.
    If yes, how, please!
    Thanks,
    Zia

As usual, Jim is correct. There's a reasonable possibility that something could go wrong with the capture; without a tape backup you would be hosed.
Here's what I do for live multi-camera recording (it works as well for single camera setups):
    • Connect all cameras to a video switcher/DVE
    • Connect the switcher's output to a DVCam VTR
    • Connect all audio sources to an audio mixer
    • Connect the audio mixer's output to the same DVCam VTR
    • Connect the DVCam's Firewire output to my Mac
With this set up I can switch/mix live between cameras while recording to the VTR and simultaneously to the Mac in FCP.
Not only do I end up with the live mix recorded to tape and captured in FCP, I also run 'safety' tapes in each camera for additional backup in case the TD (me) makes an error.

Okay so i recently bought a new PIXMA MP230 printer and i can't figure out how to install it onto my Macbook Air as it doesn't have a CD drive. Help?

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669 shows that your printer is automatically compatible with Mac OS X. This means you won't need to use the CD to install the drivers. If you you connect it via USB it should work automatically. If you want to have your printer wireless you may need to look through the manual as to how to make it join your wireless network.

  • Canon scanner not working with MacBook Pro.

I wonder if anyone is able to help. I recently bought a Canon MG5550 Printer/Scanner and I am having trouble with scanning. When I press the scan button on the printer nothing happens, not evening a warning message. I have tried using a cable and this hasn't improved the sitation.
