My Canon Pixma MP 540 does not scan any longer after update mountain lion. MP Navigator EX 2.0 starts and immediatley stops and comes with this message:

Printer works normally. Who can help.

Thanks. Your suggestion is good but it does not allow me to scan multiple page documents and get a unique pdf file (I get as many files as there are pages in the document). With the HP scan software it was possible to do it but this software does not work any longer with Maveriks. I do hope that this problem will be solved as soon as possible.

[SOLVED] Archlinux does not boot any more after update

Hi all,
yesterday I decided to update my Archlinux system again after postponing the updates for some weeks.
In general I update anything except kernel stuff, but this did lead to some dependency problems recently,
so I decided to make a full upgrade now via pacman.
After restarting the system, the kernel refused to boot. It told me, that it couldn't find my root partition /dev/sdc1 and left
me in an almost useless recovery shell. The error was:
ERROR: Unable to determine major/minor number of root device /dev/sdc1
Has anyone an idea, what might have happened? I had to install Ubuntu into a free partition to post this
topic. The disks and partitions are okay, I managed to "boot" using the old kernel, but of course the system
remained useless in that case due to wrong kernel module versions.
Thanks in advance for any hint, how to proceed.

Yes, I'm using an older SATA controller (more or less 6 years), so the problem might be related to what you posted.
I was not able to boot the old fallback kernel, same error message. The fallback kernel simply uses a different initrd
file, perhaps I should think about a more sophisticated approach.
Nevertheless I already checked the file /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and it did not contain a hook called autodetect. So maybe
the mkinitcpio won't help anyway? Should I prefer using the suggested LTS kernel instead? I assume, this is done by booting
using an archlinux CD, then chroot and using pacman? Maybe it's sufficient to chroot from the currently running ubuntu instead?
Or will the booted kernel have any influence to mkinitcpio or the like?

Keyboard does not workd any longer after re-opening the Laptop / OS sleep (Win XP SP2 + SP3)

I have a problem and if someone else knows a solution or encountered the same, some feedback would be great.
On my Z61 I experienced it sometimes when I was out for presentations that after opening the lid of the laptop and the OS recovered from sleep, the whole keyboard did not work any longer. Even such special key-combos like switching thinklight on or off did not work any longer.
The only thing I can do then is to press the power button down for some seconds to force the computer to switch off. Logically, any unsaved work is lost then. Any Ideas? I recently removed all ThinkVantage Components and then re-installed them because I was experiencing problems with the software. Now everything else works again but this keyboard switched off problem appeared again.

I have sp3, t60. From time to time my keyboard and touchpad are not working but external mouse is working. Searching through the internet i observed that this is not only my case, i assume this is XP SP3 problem.
How I am solving this: going to software manager, droping keyboard device. Here windows behavior differs from time to time, it can ask me for reboot, and can just go for reboot without any prompt. In any case after droping device i am getting keyboard working, and after several reboots touchpad starts to work.
On SP2 i had never experienced this problem.

Can not play any video after update to 4.4.2

Can not play any video after update to 4.4.2, it says always that i have to reconnect my HDMI Cable, reason HDCP error.

I have made some tests,
I can only view Trailers, every thing else dosn't work any more. I could not play any Video via Airplay. I tried to do it fom my IPhone 4, my IPad 1 and from my MacBook Pro 15"/i7 2 GHz/Mac OS10.7.2.
It always says the same error.
I reset the divice again and made a restore, but the same error.
I change the HDMI cable, same error.

I am having a similar problem on my machine. I was using Word 2008 and I created a PDF inside Word.
I am opening the file on the system itself and I am running Windows 8.1. I am using Version 11 of Reader.
When the PDF I created (my resume) attempts to open, it says: cannot find or create the file Times, Bold. Some characters may not display or print correctly.
However, the entire Reader keeps freezing and will not allow me to open or test print the document. Also, it is not displaying any of the Bold Times New Roman Print. Can you please help? Thanks.

Have a similar problem. This MacBook opened all MS Office programs in Dec2012 but no longer does in Feb2013. Went to Microsoft/mac/downloads but none of the three updates would run citing a problem "version of software needed to run this update was not found on this volume".

IPhoto does not see any changes after editing a photo in Camera Raw

Hello everyone ,
I have some small problem with my iPhoto. I have set up Camer Raw in iPhoto as External Editor, so when I click on edit in IPhoto,
automatically opens my JPG in Camera Raw. After editing in Camera Raw I'm clicking on ,,Save image" then destination is ,,Save in same location" When I go back to iPhoto to the same photo, iPhoto does not show any changes I have made in Camera Raw.
What could it be or should I set something in iPhoto or in Camera Raw?
Is there a chance in order to deal with this?

Any time a RAW file is edited in any 3rd party editor from within iPhoto it MUST be saved to the Desktop and imported as a new file. There's no other way to do it. So the photos you've edited and saved are somewhere in the iPhoto Library folder system but cannot be recognized and used by iPhoto.
The following is geared for Photoshop and Photoshop Elements but might have some info relevant for you:
Using Photoshop CS3 or Photoshop Elements 9 as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's Advanced Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.

2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window

that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:

NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS/PSE without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in iPhoto". That will let you either edit in iPhoto using the Edit button or Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Edit in iPhoto" or in PS/PSE by Control-clicking on the thumbnail and selecting "Edit in External Editor" in the Contextual menu.

On the iPhone open the Calendar app and on the top left conner tap the Calendar button and confirme that the calendars on your iPhone are under iCloud.
If not that is the reason why they are not going.
If they are under iCloud try to toggle off and back on iCloud calendar options.
