Canon Pixma MP470 all in one scanner printer "scan fail"

I found earlier posts that described similar problems as mine, they were marked as answered. I continue to have problems even tho I have followed earlier instructions from other members i.e. PAHU.
I am trying to use a Canon MP470 printer connected by USB cable to my iMac. I don't use it much and it has worked unreliably in the past. Today all scans fail except one which to me would mean that I have installed the correct driver for OSX 10.6. I am not sure if I have deleted the old preset and created a new preset for the new driver correctly. I hate to say it but I am a little unsure how to go about this. I don't remember having as much trouble before I upgraded to OS 10.6.3.
If anyone has some suggestions or instructions, I sure would appreciate them.

Okay, the Presets in this post did refer to the Printer preset. The poster had a black and white preset they had created with a previous OS and was trying to use it on Snow Leopard, which did not work because the printer driver was different on the new OS. This does not apply to the scanner portion of your MP470.
As for checking the scanner driver version, this is not an easy task. But the new driver installation typically overwrites the previous version. If you are not sure which driver install you did last, I suggest you run this v13.9 installer again. to ensure it is what you are using.
I would also suggest you have MP Navigator v2.04 or later installed, as earlier versions may not be that compatible with Snow Leopard. Again, running the newest version of MP Navigator installer should overwrite an older version.
If you have the latest MP Navigator and it is still not scanning correctly then please reply. At least you now know about Image Capture so if you did find that MP Nav stopped working, you are not totally stumped

    Hi Byron,
I hadn't answered because I don't have a Canon printer. But have you tried different settings in the print dialog - yours may look different (I have an Epson):
If you look at the cut off pic in the dialog window, you'll notice that what I picked apparently was too wide, so it placed it sideways automatically and still shows it at 90% size. If I picked the other orientation, it'd have to be even smaller.
I'd say try to play around with the settings in that print dialog to see if you can come up with something that'll work.

  • I have a canon pixma mx360 all in one printer and it won't print

my printer won't print I just replaced the ink. I tried to trouble shoot the printer, and it said that I had a printer error in the que.
I cleared the que and it still won't print. can you please help me figure this out? my printer is a pixma canon mx360 all in one
    ink jet.

    Hi wendasa,
If you have any antivirus or firewall programs on your computer, please temporarily disable them and then try to scan again.  Sometimes these programs can block the scanning process of the printer.  If you are still unable to scan, we can try scanning using the Microsoft Paint program to see if the scanner function of the printer is working.  To attempt to scan using Microsoft Paint, please follow these steps:
    1.  Launch Windows Paint by pressing the Windows Key+ R, then typing mspaint, then clicking OK.
    2.  Once inside of Paint, in the upper left corner you will see a blue square; please click on that and select FROM SCANNER OR CAMERA.  A window will appear asking you what device you want to use.  Please select the PIXMA MX360, then press the OK button.
    3.  In the next window, you should have the option of selecting a document type; please select one, then press the SCAN button in the window.
Are you able to scan using Microsoft Paint?
If this is a time-sensitive matter, additional support options are available at Contact Us.

  • Best Home use All- in one scanner/printer that will run on linux

Doestic Use - UK .  What would members recommend as the best all-in-one printer scanner colour, to use on linux with full wireless  capability and photo mainipulation software addons etc.  Runnung Ubuntu based 14.04 - Linux Lite 2.4    Thanks

I think you will not get a general consensus. Canon is my preference, for both work and at home, but others will tell you they are rubbish, most likely due to a previous bad experience, such as your friend has had.
What I can say about the Canon products is that they have improved their driver and software functionality compared to the days of 10.2. There are still some shortfalls, but there is definitely more support for OS X than there ever was previously.
With your friends requirements in mind, I would suggest the MX700. It offers Ethernet and USB connections for printing, faxing and scanning. It also does a reasonable job of photo printing.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One - terrible print & scan options

I just purchased an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One an the print options look like they were written by someone from the 1990s.  There are no options for lower resolution - only draft, normal, best and no option for black and white - other than grayscale.  The print options box is the default box that was originally develped in the 1990s - no kidding.  I also tried scanning some items and the box to see the scan is about 5" x 5" and there is absolutely no way possible to see what was scanned.  I originally loaded the software using the disk provided witih the printer, but then I went on line and downloaded the "Full" version - which loaded exactly what was on the disk.  I can not believe HP is even selling this thing with these types of drivers.  I loaded the drivers onto my HP Desktop, running Windows 7 home, 64 bit and my HP laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit.  Both HP computers are Intel I7 Quad core computers w/ 9 & 12 Gb of RAM respectively.
What gives?  Do I need to return this thing because it certainly does not work properly and is not up to the HP standard we expect - especially for the $300 it costs to buy the thing.  I bought this all in one because HP refuses to update the drivers of my older HP scanner to support Windows 7.  That scanner showed the preview with a full screen, allowed me to change resolutions of scans, colors, etc.
Has anyone else experienced this type of garbage?

I agree the HP customer services and product services suck. I have an Officejet Pro 8500 and consistently had problems.
I think I'll change to a Cannon printer or another company. It is apparent that HP does not care.

  • Pixma MX410 All-In-One Printer

I have an HP Windows 7 Laptop and I'm trying to scan using a PIXMA MX410 All-In-One-Printer.
I keep getting the following message when I try to scan wireless:
Cannot scan for the following reasons:
    -Scanner is turned off
    -USB cable is disconnected
    Please check and try again.
    Scanner driver will be closed.
    Code: 5,56,61
I can print wireless and I can scan only when connected to a USB. I am trying to do everything wirelessly without using the USB.
    Thanks

    Hi djm524,
You can try temporarily removing files from a folder called TWAIN 32 that may be causing a conflict with the scanning process to see if this resolves the issue.  To do this, please follow the steps  located here.
Since you are trying to scan wirelessly, you will also want to ensure that the Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector EX program is running on your computer.  To ensure it is running, from the Start menu on your computer, select All Programs, then Canon Utilities, then IJ Network Scanner Selector EX (folder), then IJ Network Scanner Selector EX (program).  When launched, the icon appears in the notification area of the taskbar
    Hope this helps!

  • Firefox crashes when attempting to print to a Canon ImageClass D680 all-in-one unit.

I can print just fine to the Canon ImageClass D680 all-in-one unit from an Internet Explorer browser. Firefox crashes every time. The printer is connected to a Dell Optiplex 755 SFF via USB A-B std printer cable, on a WXP O.S. Using the latest release of Firefox, downloaded on 6/23, but hasn't worked in 3 or 4 months. There were NO add-ons when tested on 6/23.

Guigs2, thanks for the response. Yes, I can save the content of the webpage, then copy to another program for printing, but the drill within FF was much easier & direct (of course). • Canon MG2200 All-In One won't scan?

    This is really frustrating me.
Originally, i had purchased a PIXMA MG2100 All-In One printer and it worked fine. One day, however, the scanner stops working. Next the printer won't connect at all, and after some e-mails with customer support they send me a PIXMA MG2200 to replace the other, which had some problem needing factory repair.
After uninstalling and re-installing the new one, everything seems fine until i see that the scanner still won't work. I've tried it on my desktop and laptop, but it gives me the same error that says it's warming up, stops, then there's a connection problem, the scanner might be off or busy, USB connection error, please turn off and try again and scanner will shut off...yadda yadda yadda.
I've tried re-intsalling the drivers, checking for error codes on the printer screen, buying a new USB cable, changing the nearly-empty ink cartriges to new ones -- nothing works. I'm tempted to just throw the thing away and getting a different brand. I really need the scanner for what i do.
Does anyone have any solutions to make the stupid thing work? I don't understand why it won't. My last hope is buying another USB because the first one i used ended up being bust. The second one worked but only for the printer. It's not old, i got it with the printer last time, but it failed to solve the connection problem.
I use Windows 7 x64 btw. Windows XP on the desktop.

    I GOT IT TO WORK.
I don't know if this will work for you adriftwaterbaby, but i bought a new cord and made it autoscan while it was doing that operation stuff right after turning it on.
I tried it with the old cord, and if i scan while it's doing its business, it works.
This is really stupid, and i'm afraid i'm going to have to change brands next time i buy a printer.

  • Best all-in-one wireless printer for Mac 10.9.2

Looking for best wireless all-in-one for home use.  I have Mac OSX 10.9.2, iPhone 5, iPad and a wireless network.  Not technically inclined.  Any recommendations?

I wish a few more users would take the time to share their experiences with printers. I have had a Canon MX870 for several years that is nothing but a perpetual headache -- it needs to be reconnected to the network three or four times a day or it simply will not print. There are lots of posts on this topic and I have tried every possible solution with no luck. I am reluctant to buy another Canon -- this experience has left me doubting their products. I am also reluctant, based on past experience, to consider an HP product. So that pretty much leaves Epson -- but which Epson? I am looking for an all-in-one wireless printer that will STAY CONNECTED to the network. Top-quality printing would be nice, but frankly, it's not on the top of my priority list. I just want to be able to use the printer, scanner and copier without wasting an hour of my day on maintenance. If you have had positive experience in this regard, please take a few seconds to post your recommendations. Thanks. (I am running the latest version of Mavericks on a new Mac Pro.)

  • Canon Pixma MP470

I am helping a friend connect a Canon MP 470 All-In-One. He originally purchased it for a Dell LT. The sw & drivers that came with the printer are for Windows only. I had a devil of a time getting what I need from Canon. After downloading etc., and thinking I got a connection, the printer utility in Mac kept giving us a note the "Printer is busy" please try again. I don't know what else to do.

The Canon drivers cannot be used when the printer is connected via USB to a Windows computer or wireless print server (unless it is an Apple Airport product). For these types of connections you need to use either the Gutenprint driver suite or PrintFab. Gutenprint is preferred because it is free, however the MP470 is not listed as a supported model. So you could try and use another Canon model - some people have found the MP150 driver to work well with their non-supported Canon MP device.
If you have no luck getting a supported driver to work from the Gutenprint suite then you could look at purchasing PrintFab. The software costs €49 but there is a 30 day trial so you could at least check it out. MP470 is listed as a supported model.

  • HP 6500 wireless ALL-in-one e709n Printer front panel not responding at all

    Hi there,
    I have got a HP 6500 wireless ALL-in-one e709n printer.
I have been using it with my pc with windows vista on it for nearly 2 years and it has been great.
1 month ago, the front panel of the printer stopped responding, ie, when i press any buttons, the lcd screen on the printer does not change, it always show the ink level.
The printer turns on, shows that its preparing, then goes to idle state with ink level icons on the screen.
If i try to print any documents, it works with ethernet cable connected to my pc (which i used to do it wirelessly) , the cable-connected printing function still works, but wireless printing does not work anymore.
However if i try to scan something, on the pc when i open the hp scan app, it shows that 'scanner is not available'.
Also because the front panel doesnt work, no buttons respond, i cannot scan or copy.
I have tried unplug everything and reinstall all drivers and programs.
No damage to printer or my pc, it just stopped working all the sudden.
Can any one help me out please?
    cheers,
    Charlie

  • How do I keep my HP1510 All-in-one from printing so many test pages?

How do I keep my HP1510 All-in-one from printing so many test pages? My printer is connected to my laptop, and it seems that every time I disconnect, the printer wants to print an test page when I reboot. I don't know where the option is to turn this off.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The pages are likely alignment pages.  When a new cartrdige is installed the printer will print an alignment page that must be placed on the scanner glass and the Scan button pressed to complete the alignment process.  If the alignment is not completed it will repeat when the printer is turned on or perhaps at the end of print jobs.
The alignment page will stop printing when the alignment process has completed.  See the page here for information.
