Canon Pixma MX700 won't scan

Last week my scanner on the Canon Pixma MX700 worked perfectly, easily.  Today it won't work at all.  I've got the new update for printers and scanners, no go. I've tried deleting printer and MP Navigator and finding software to reinstall from the Canon site.  I've even followed instructions on a uTube video that suggests identifying Lion 10.7 as the software I'm using that included deleting and reinstalling the software and scanner/printer drivers.  Nothing works.
Anyone got a fix for this.  I use my scanner often (both for work and for home).
BTW my OS X is Version 10.9.1 (Mavericks)
Cat

rkaufmann87, thanks for the suggesstion.  Went throught the process but no luck.
The printer is connected via USB.  I have checked the connections (and the cabling to see if there is a break of some kind) but they are all good both ends.  The printer works perfectly.  The problem is the scanner (thus I thought it was the drivers) MP Navigator looks for the scanner, cannot find it and give the error message says it cannot communicate with the scanner.

  • Using Image Capture to scan with Canon Pixma MX700

I previously had trouble connecting my Canon Pixma MX700 to my MBP, but soon figured out that I needed a new high speed USB 2.0 cable, versus the old one I was trying to use it with. Doh!
So now it prints without any trouble at all, and I know that all its features - printing, scanning, fax, copier, are supposed to be compatible with Leopard.
However, I'm still having issues scanning. I Googled and found a comment somewhere that with this specific model, one has to use Image Capture for the scanning portion, instead of the Canon software.
Great, so that explained the problem I was having trying to figure out how to GET it to communicate at all with the MBP (downloaded the latest scanner driver from Canon with no result).
But it still will not scan with Image Capture. Communication is fine- the image is detected and I can see it perfectly in the Image Capture window, am able to change options, etc. Once I drag and select the image I want to scan and click the scan button, nothing happens. Or more specifically, the button will be click-able and for about two seconds it appears to be working (with the scan button substituted by a cancel button), but then the scan button will pop back up and nothing appears in the folder I specified the image to be saved to.
Now I'm completely stumped. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!!!

With my MacBook running Leopard, I had been able to successfully scan multiple images by pressing the MX7000 scan button and capturing the images with MP Navigator. The MX700 is networked over WiFi. Early on, I learned that it seemed to be more reliable to drive this process using the scan button, rather than trying to initiate the scan from the MP Navigator UI.
However, recently things stopped working, and after the first image was scanned, subsequent scans would fail, with MP Navigator complaining about not being able to connect to the scanner. This sounds similar to the problem described in the original posting.
I went to the Canon USA support site and downloaded /installed the latest versions of the MX700 scan driver (13.9.0) and MP Navigator (1.0.4), both available under the "Drivers and Downloads" section for the MX700 support page (be sure to select "Mac OS X" from the pull-down menu).
    http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDeta ilTabAct&fcategoryid=238&modelid=15651#DownloadDetailAct
The new updates seem to have solved the problem, and I can now scan multiple images one after the other. Again, I always initiate the scan from the button on the MX700, and always capture using MP Navigator, which has the really nice feature for creating and editing multi-page PDFs.

  • Canon Pixma MX700 and Adobe CS3

I am having a printing problem...I can print from all programs but Adobe CS3products (InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat Professional, Illustrator). Anyone else having this problem? Or have a solution? Printing problem only seems to effect Adobe software products, I can print from other software. Running OSX 10.5.1 with Canon Pixma 700 Printer. Have heard that CS3 doesn't get along with 10.5. Any information would be helpful.

    Hello viveksinha.
To try and resolve this issue, please unplug the power from the unit for about 25-30 minutes.  Once this time frame has passed, plug the unit in directly to a wall outlet to see if the printer will power on.

  • Canon mp 600 won't scan.

I can not seem to scan in the Leopard OS on my Canon MP 600. I was able to scan in the Virtual xp os I'm using VM fusion. Printer is disconnected and is shutdown.
Fusion is closed, I've rebooted, I can print but can't scan.

Do you have the scanner driver installed? There are separate printer and scanner drivers; visit the canon website and check out the downloads for your printer (if it is not already installed)

  • Canon Pixma 8120 won't print after new hard drive + TC install

I have a great Pixma 8120 which was previously successfully networked wirelessly to an intel imac SL 10.6.8 and
a Macbook Pro running Lion.  Our internet connection is Fios via router and the imac had been connected via
    ethernet to the Fios router.
Last week, the imac's hard drive needed to be replaced - Apple Geniuses
installed the new hard drive at the apple store and restored all of the data.   I bought a new Time Capsule
and backed up the new hard drive as soon as I got it home (yes I got religion).
I now have the TC connected via ethernet
to the router and set up a new network -- connected both the imac and the macbook  via airport no problem.  Nice
    fast internet (safari).
The problem is the Canon printer.  I configured the printer to recognize the new network over the TC and was able to
connect it via wi-fi to the access point.  When printing however, the printer icon pops up in the dock and looks like its starting
to process the job but then the job disappears fromt the print queue screen.  poof.  nothing.
I  suspect I may have a problem with the TC's security settings not being compatible with the canon - the canon manual does say something about the canon not supporting "enterprise" and I did see that in the TC settings.
I have a huge work project due tomorrow so I decided to forego the wireless thing for now and just hook the printer up
via USB to the imac.  I reinstalled the Canon software following the all directions for when to plug in the USB in the process.
It didn't work.  Then  I went to the Canon support page and downloaded/installed  an updated driver. Now I have
a nice new looking printer icon but when I try to print it starts and then gives me a "communication error has occured"
    message -- error 306.
Does anyone have advice for me?

Never mind.  I realized that I needed to ethernet the imac to the TC.
I just got the Canon to print. Sorry to bother.

  • New Canon Pixma ip4600 won't show on my Airport Express printer list

    Hi,
I've just had to replace my old Pixma ip4000 printer with a new ip4600 printer. The printer has set-up on my iMac and Macbook but it does not show in Airport Utility in the printers section. I've tried unplugging the printer from the USB and unplugging the AE but whichever combination I try it does no good. All ok on the usb direct to the computer.
I've followed many of the support articles to no avail. Can somebody help please? Until the printer shows on the AE I'm unable to print wirelessly.
    Regards,
    Colin Ashworth

    Hi Colin,
As you have said in your post, until you can get the Express to recognise the iP4600 as being connected via USB, you will not be able to add the printer. And note that you cannot use the More Printers > Canon IJ Network facility - this is for Canon's that are connected via Ethernet or wireless to the network.
Are you using the same USB cable to connect the iP4600 to the Express as you are for connecting directly to the Mac's USB? If not, then try another USB cable.
If you are using the same cable, then has the Express got a reset button? I know the Extreme's do and I'm thinking that possibly the Express is still expecting the iP4000 on the USB. If there is no button then you could a factory reset via the Airport utility. You could also check if there are any updates for the Express.

  • HELP!!!--- Canon Pixma MG5420 Mac OS X 10.5.8 PowerPC Universal Binary Print Driver...... ---

    Greetings Everyone!
I am a bit miffed at the moment.
I purchased a Canon Pixma MG5420 Print-Copy-Scan machine with the intention of using it with my Power Mac G5, PowerPC, Mac OS X 10.5.8.
But alas. Apparently it is not to be. The box in which the printer came cleary displays the Mac Logo and the Universal Logo, the Universal Logo looking like this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_binary
The Mac OS X system requirements also notate the OS X to be a minimum of 10.5.8!
The driver CD only contains drivers for Mac OS X Intel.
So Someone....ANYONE!....please tell me why Canon has stooped to this low level of "False Advertising"???
Let's FLAG this issue and find out WHY!
    NEED HELP!
    ....and could use working drivers!

IT"S OFFICIAL!---> Canon has stopped porting any of their drivers to the Universal Binary format for MAC OS X which is a combo installer for PowerPC and Intel machines.
The MG5420 MFP that I have was released in December 2012 and they *said* that I was the first person to "complain" of this issue!....REALLY!?!?....wow...so there is no one else out there using the PowerPC platform??? I find the G5 (model M9592LL/A) to be quite adequate and useable for what I do!  I guess the engineers couldn't be bothered to "port" it to the PowerPC platform!  Listen Canon, if you don't think the PowerPC is still useable, go visit http://www.macofalltrades.com/ and watch the "trend" of what sells and what doesn't.....or maybe you should call another authority of Apple products http://www.macsales.com/ and ask what volume of PowerPC compatible parts they sell?!
And Canon, I know you offered to buy back this "mistake", but for the $99 I bought it at, (extra set of ink not included) I may just hold on to it and do the "workaround" of scanning to and printing from a Windows XP PC shared folder...No, Canon, I'm not completely stupid!....I set-up MFP's for my job, so I know a little bit about networking!  ...enough to be dangerous, at least!  ;-)   Any way, I just got this G5 a year or so ago and it is new to me...I probably wait a little longer and then get an Intel Mac, and THEN it will work natively with this INTEL CANON!....LOL!
    What do you think?!.....Thoughts?.....Ideas?
Oh, and Canon.....get your "engineering" team and your marketing "box makers/printers" in Thailand to get their "info" to correspond and be accurate....that way there will be no false advertising and misrepresentation of Apple's "Intellectual Property" and "breach of contract!.....You darn well know they have an "Image" to uphold!
    https://developer.apple.com/softwarelicensing/agreements/maclogo.html
    CHEERS!
PS--you better watch your back Canon on this little faux pas!....Epson might use this to their advertising advantage!....they still support Universal Binary!

  • My Canon Pixma MP830 scanner does not work

I recently upgraded to a new iMac 27 inch and my Canon Pixma MP830 no longer scans, but it still prints just fine.  It was working on my old Mac Pro using Yosemite 10.10.1 but no longer lets me save scans using Yosemite 10.10.1 on the iMac.  Any suggestions or is there a new scanner/printer that would be compatible.

Canon has stopped providing an ICA driver for the MP830. The ICA driver is used by the Apple scanning application Image Capture and third party apps like Photoshop.
And the last TWAIN driver Canon released for the MP830 was for OS X 10.8. You may still be able to use this 10.8 scanner driver on 10.10 so here is a link to it. Note that its digital signature may not allow it to be installed on 10.10 so you will need to right-click on the installer and select Open from the pop-up menu that appears. Then you will have the option to install it.
To then scan you will need a TWAIN scanning application. Canon's MP Navigator scanner application that supports the MP830 was also last released for 10.8 but may work on 10.10. Here is a link. You will most likely need to perform the same action written above to install this application on 10.10.
If the old applications don't install or operate on 10.10 then a new device may be required. As for a recommendation, have a look at this Apple article showing brands and models of All In One devices that the printer and scanner driver (and even fax driver) are available from Apple.

  • PIXMA MX700 & Express: Internet fails when Printer turned on

I just bought a Canon Pixma MX700 to replace a Samsung ML2010. The Samsung worked fine connected the Airport Express via USB. (an IBook and MacBook could both print wirelessly this way.).
THe Canon does not work in this configuration. The Airport Admin utility can see the printer (View Summary -> USB Printer -> "Canon MX700", but the computers cannot print to it - even worse, they lose their internet connection.
If the Printer is switched off and Airport is restarted, the internet connection is available again, but as soon as the printer is switched on it is gone.

The most current firmware version for the Airport Express is 6.3
It sounds like there is a serious electrical problem being caused by having this printer connected to your Airport Express and turned on. This isn't something that is caused by an incorrect "setting" or outdated software on the Airport Express.
Note that the MX700 has an ethernet network interface. If you connect this multifunction printer to your network using that interface, all its functions will be supported - even wirelessly. The best you can hope to achieve by connecting the MX700 to the Airport Express USB port is printing.
If your current "network" consists of only a cable/DSL modem and the Airport Express, you will need to upgrade to a method of sharing your connection that allows both wireless and wired devices to connect to it. Post another message if you would seriously consider doing this and need advice.

  • Scanning on a Canon Pixma MP810 via an Airport Express

Can I scan from a Canon Pixma MP800/MP810 that is connected to a Airport Express? Printing works fine, but when I open Canons supplied program, it won't connect to the printer for scanning.

    No scanning is not possible.
Can I scan using my all-in-one when it is connected to the USB port of an Airport Express or Airport Extreme Base Station?

  • New iMac w/ Lion: MP Navigator software won't scan on my PIXMA MP780

Bought the iMac w/ Lion, and now my MP Navigator  2.0 software won't scan on my PIXMA MP780. Tried installing MP Navigator 3.0, but it gives me the "The scanner driver supported by this software is not installed. Install it and retry". Any help?
I know that there have been similar answers (https://discussions.apple.com/message/15333807#15333807), but I'm curious to know if these answers will work with Lion.
    Many thanks!
    Dave
P.S. For those of you with similar issues, I did find a workaround; I found I could use the printer driver from within system prefs as a scanner. Here's what you might try to do if you're having the same trouble I am:
    Open system preferences
Select "Hardware -> Print and Scan"
Click on the icon for your installed printer on the left side of the screen
After doing so, you might see buttons for Print and Scan above the data that then shows on the right side of that window.
Click on "Scan" and see if this particualr utility works.
It worked for my MP780. Not ideal (I'm used to the MP Navigator software), but it'll do.
    Dave

Be sure to do some homework before trying again.  There is plenty of advice on the internet, for example:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1161087/install_lion_over_leopard.html
As gumsie says, it is important atleast to backup your own data, photos, music etc on another disk.  I would get Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) and make a bootable clone of your existing Snow Leopard. Then copy the new Lion installer to this clone as well.  With this, you can keep functional (and ask for help here) while you get the Lion installation working and your apps updated.

  • Is it possible to scan from a Canon Pixma MX432 to my iPad?

Is it possible to scan from a Canon Pixma MX432 to my iPad? I want to be able to scan on the Canon with a .pdf of the scanned document appearing on my iPad (wifi version(  I AM ABLE  to print from my iPad to the Canon using AirPrint.
I have been unable to find the applicable information on the Canon website, user's manualm etc. Would someone on the Apple support group be able to kindly help me.  Thank you, Dale

Cannon has an App which supports scanning into an iPad from various Pixma printers.

  • Image Capture won't scan: Canon MP 610

    Hello,
I experience a strange bug in Image Capture which I use together with my Canon MP610. When I put a document on the scanner Image Capture will show a preview and then scan the document. This works fine.
Sometimes I need to make some manual corrections by using the button "show details" and then resize the scan area after the program has analyzed the picture. After I made the corrections I hit the "Scan" button but Image Capture will return with the message "Scanner has reported an error" and "An error occurred during scanning".
I first thought it might be a driver related problem as I recently updated the drivers from the Canon site. Before I installed the Canon drivers and used the OSX drivers all worked fine.
So I removed all drivers from Canon and hoped the Mac would use the old drivers again. That didn't work either as the system couldn't seem to find any usable driver anymore. I reinstalled the Canon drivers and all works well again except for the Image Capture program.
As long as I don't use the "Show Details" button the scanner works just fine. But as soon as I make some manual corrections the scanner error message pops up and the scanner won't scan the adjusted preview.
So I know for sure the Mac sees the scanner and can control it as the scanner does deliver the images to the folder I specify, but I can't do any manual corrections.
I already deleted the file "com.apple.ImageCaptureApp.plist" but that didn't solve the problem. It appears to be a bug in the program itself or a conflict between the app and the drivers from Canon. How can I revert back to the drivers that my Mac used before I installed the Canon drivers?
    Thanks!

Thanks PAHU that were a lot of drivers for sure in your link and I installed those. Unfortunately, nor the driver package nor the ICA driver did solve my problem. I'm beginning to think it might just be a bug within Image Capture, although Image Capture is stating the scanner is reporting an error. Strange thing is that Image Capture will work fine as long as I hide the details pane.
It seems to be an isolated problem too as I can't find any other subject on this on the net. I see more people having trouble to scan images with Image Capture but that's mostly related to not selecting the right part of the preview. I will see if I can reinstall Image Capture from the OSX dvd.
