Canon Pixma MX870 SD card help

I had a Epson NX Stylus printer and i could transfer files to the instered SD card in the slot. That printer broke and got a Canon Pixma MX870, and now everytime i drag a file to the SD card, it requires a Admin password. Can someone please help to resolve this?
Also is there a way to access the flashdrive port on the printer?

When you are prompted for the Admin password, simply select the Guest account. This will then let you connect to the machine and view the SD card. The online manual does not state why you have to enter any credentials. It simply states;
"The authentication screen may appear. If it appears, you do not need to input the password."
With regards to the flashdrive, I could not find a way to view the contents via the Mac. While the images were shown on my MP990 screen, when I connected to the printer to mount the card, while that appeared to work correctly, no images were displayed. Reading through the online manual there did not appear to be any notes stating that it could not be used via the network. So you may need to check with your local Canon support.

We have the same problem. I think it has something to do with the printhead. We found reference to this problem and suggested fixes under the model MX850 on this forum. One person suggested soaking the printhead. Yikes. We barely got much use out of our printer before this happened. Very frustrating. Husband tempated to buy an Epson today.

Same for me. I looked elsewhere and found other solutions. I soaked the print head in warm water until it ran clear. Dried the unit for 15 hours, unplugged everything. Reinserted the printhead, ink cartridges, power cord, USB connection. Started unit and it worked. How long, I have no idea, but it saved me some money

Problem printing from Photoshop CS5.1 to Canon Pixma MX870

I downloaded most recent printer driver from Canon for my MX870 and with help from canon support I deleted previous printers in my computer and added in the new one. Also repaired permissions.
Other adobe software will print (InDesign, Acrobat) but not photoshop. When I select print, I am getting the following message: "There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents" After attempting once I can't even get to the print dialogue box as the print selection is grayed out.
I am not sure what to do to get past this.
I have a new imac running OSX 10.9.2.

I was testing other Imacs running the same photoshop CS5.1 with the new printer drivers from canon and it prints. They are running OSX10.6.8. My new computer is running 10.9.2 and it will not print from photoshop. Is the driver not compatible with the operating system? Is there something to try other than saying the driver is at fault. Do I complain to Canon to update their driver to work? What is a work around?

Canon Pixma MX870 printing with horizontal lines

Recently my printer has begun printing with even horizontal lines across the whole page. I've tried cleaning and deep cleaning, but neither have fixed the problem. Attached is the print nozzle check pattern: http://i.imgur.com/JrLZWgN.jpg . You can see a line between all the letters, and especially on the first rectangle.All ink cartridges are at a decent level as well.

Canon Pixma MP970 Printer - Need Help Installing on 10.9.3!

I have a Canon Pixma MP970 printer that I cannot get to work on my MacBook Pro running OS 10.9.3! I had no issue running it on the initial release of OS 10.9, but now it is making me pull my hair out!
I recently wiped my ssd and reinstalled OS X from the recovery partition and this is when I began encountering the issue. I went to the Canon website and there are no drivers provided because it says they are already contained in OS 10.9 (and the Canon website already detects my OS). I have plugged the printer into my MacBook Pro using a USB cable and running software update (to make sure any drivers are downloaded) and there is no download. I have tried entering the printer IP address manually and still nothing.
I am out of options unless a kind soul on these forums can light the path for me. Is it possible this printer is no longer supported after an incremental OS update?

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.

4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.

If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.

The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

How do I set my printer settings for a Canon Pixma MX870?

I have installed and updated the drivers.
It currently prints out coloured, one sided pages. I prefer two sided, B&W quick print settings.
I need a step by step run through on were to find these settings.
On my Brother's PC he has 'Canon My Printer' which is were he set up the setting for his computer. It was not on the instualtion disc for the printer and I can't seem to find the download on the Canon website.
Im on OS X Lion 10.7.4.

I knew that was going to be an issue. Renaming the audio files. To change the name of an audio file do it within the project. You want to go to the media bin. where your audio files are. _WITH IN THE PROJECT_. You can just double click on them and rename them. and yes be very name specific. so no audio file ever has a chance to have the same name.
The audio files in the bin are in there own separate folders. You want to rename the folder that contains the audio file to, eg, Mary had a little lamb kick drum take 752. The renamed audio file folder will reflect in the timeline and in your project audio folder. But now the audio file can have a different name than the folder, the next is least important, but you may just want your track to be called Kick. So you can double click on the track header and give it a name kick. then you can right click on the audio in the timeline of the corresponding track and select, Track names to regions. Now the track name, the region within the timeline, and the region within the Mary had a little lamb kick drum take 752 folder within the bin will have the name kick. but wait there's more, lol. just kidding.
So maybe the case is now that you don't really want to put all audio files from all songs in one folder, just all audio files from one song into one folder right.
This way each song has its own folder containing the audio. This is standard practice. Its just a given when you create a project.

How to Force Canon Pixma MX870 to Print Black

How do you force the MX870 to print black and to use the big black ink tank when printing all text and documents? Is there a specific setting that does this? Isn't the big black tank supposed to be used for text printing and the smaller black tank is used for high quality photo printing? Or do I have all this backward?
Why is printing so overly complicated and expensive? Scratch that! Sorry for the rant!

In theory, using the Grayscale setting will print a document containing an image using black only. However I believe there has been several users claiming that this does not occur. In practical terms I believe that the printer uses magenta mixed with black to make gray. So instead of using only black for an image, which would require some form of line screening which inkjets don't typically employ, the use of magenta could be occurring. I think I will have to get back to you on this after some testing because I feel that the operation of the grayscale setting could still use at least one other colour.

A text document would typically contain no image. Yet it is worth noting that some text items, such as bullet points, are graphical and therefore can be treated by the printer as an image. So it is difficult to be completely accurate about what constitutes a text document. But for your home use I think you would get the most yield from your inks if you did employ the grayscale setting as a default.

Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark 2 - HELP! - switching off color management in the print dialog

I'm using Lightroom 5 to print. I'm selecting a custom profile in the print section and lightroom says in italics below
"when selecting a custom profile, remember to switch off color management in the print dialog."
Can someone explain to me how to do that?
I'm on a Macbook Pro running Yosemite.

You may need to update your drivers. If there aren't recent versions then welcome to the club of those of us who don't run out and buy the latest, and have big piles of operable but designated obsolete hardware.

Colour management on Canon PIXMA ip8750-.

I know this is a pretty specific question but just wondered if anyone could help…?
I need to turn colour management off on my new printer in order to printer some test sheets for profiling...
I cannot see anywhere in the printer settings where this can be done.

I will be really upset if this is the case…. I guess I should have checked this before i bought the printer but even my previous Canon printer (cheaper) was able to switch colour management off…. I bought this printer after reading all the reviews and it seemed to be an excellent printer for photographs so it didn't occur to the that I wouldn't be able to get custom profiles for it… :-(

Canon PIXMA MX860 Error 311

Hi,
I recently bought a Canon PIXMA MX860. I want to print wirelessly via bluetooth from my computer, but an error message keeps on popping up "Error Number : 311 Printer is in use or an error has occurred. If an error has occurred eliminate the cause of the error."
I updated to all the newest drivers. I tried looking at the gutenprint drivers, but I couldn't find one that works with the Canon PIXMA MX860. Any help would be much appreciated!

Turn of the MG and unplug the power cord. Leave it off for about a minute and then reconnect the power cord and turn the power back on. Wait while the device attempts to reconnect to your wireless network - the blue wifi symbol on the MG will flash and then stay on once it has connected. If it keeps flashing then you will have to reconnect the MG to your wireless access point via the control panel on the MG.

I desperately need help installing Canon Pixma ip6000D printer in Windows 7 64-bit

My software CD (drivers, etc.) will not work with Windows 7 64-bit. I have tried running it in Windows XP compatibility mode, but it says it is made for 32-bit and will not work with 64-bit. Canon's website says it has an add-on module, but it doesn't have
the printer driver, and it says "Your printer must be installed via Microsoft Update before you download and use this module." I have tried to find a way to install the printer via Microsoft Update, But I can't find any information
about how to do this.
I have also done searches for the canon pixma ip6000d drivers for windows 7 64-bit, but all the results I have seen say that they are an add-on modules.
I would GREATLY appreciate any help with this.

After doing some more digging, I found a solution, and hopefully it will help anyone else who is having problems. Go to this page:

You can manually install the printer by following these instructions. If the model of your printer does not show (mine didn't), click the update button. It will take several minutes (maybe longer if you have a slow internet connection), but eventually it
will bring up a new list of printers. Just choose your printer and follow the instructions. My printer is working fine now.
