Canon Powershot A75 no longer recognised by iPhoto after 7.1.3 (364) update

We have been importing photos from our Canon Powershot A75 to our iMac G5 (now running Leopard 10.5.2) for some time.
This morning an auto update for iPhoto was applied, taking iPhoto to 7.1.3 (364).
Now iPhoto won't recognise our camera at all. I've tried different USB ports. Made sure it is in photo playback mode. No joy.
Any suggestions?

You might try reapplying the Mac OS X 10.5.2 Combo Update.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive.  It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas?  I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

    Hi,

iPhoto can not be opened while it is being updated.
But problem is, that nothing idicate there is some iPhoto update.

I don't understand why first update has almost 2GB and there is also second update which has around 300MB, so I can see two iMovie updates in App Store - Updates.

  • PC no longer recognises my iPhone after trying to update to iOS 5...Help!?!?

When returning from popping out of the house, as the Back UP and Update was taking forever, I came home to find that my iPhone has updated to iOS 5 but failed to Restore itself.  On top of this my PC no longer recognises my iPhone and issues a message 'USB Device Not Recognized'.  Now I have tried several attempts at fixing this, reinstalling iTunes, disabling and re-enabling USB Drives but nothing seems to work.  So I am now left with an empty phone, no contacts nothing, which can't even connect to my PC.
    Any Ideas???????????????????

I had the same problem, I shut down the computer, disconnected it, etc... nothing helped. I went to the Apple store and they fixed it by restoring my phone to factory defaults and then updating. When I got home I connected to Itunes and it synched all my information back to the phone. If you have synched your information to Icloud you have to do it there!

  • Calendars no longer sync across devices after iOS/Mac OS X updates

Ever since updating my MacBook Air to Yosemite and my iPhone 6 to iOS 8.0.2 (or maybe 8.1.1), my calendars no longer sync correctly across devices. Prior to the updates, any addition or change I made to the calendar on my iPhone would be added to the calendar on my Mac the next time I synced my phone. Now I have duplicate events on my phone, the calendar on my Mac no longer incorporates changes from the phone and I get a dialog box on the Mac 2-3 times an hour about calendar conflicts. No matter how many times I review the conflicts and choose which events/updates to save, the box keeps coming back. I've never had a persistent issue like this with any previous iOS or Mac OS updates and I can't figure out why it won't stop. Help, please!

OK, that was easy enough. Here's what I took from the log when I synced a few minutes ago. I kept the log entry for one of the multiple calendar sync conflicts.

  • My Canon EOS is no longer recognized by iPhoto.

I have been using my Canon EOS with my iMac OSX Version 10.8.5 and recently iPhoto stopped recognizing it. I am unable to download photos. I have to copy them from the memory card. At the same time, Dropbox is recognizing them and a window pops up when I plug in my camera and turn it on, asking me if I want to upload to Dropbox.
Has anyone else had this problem? How can I get my Canon EOS recognized by iPhoto again?
    Thank you.

Get the photos off of the card and then reformat it using the camera's format command and try again

  • Canon PowerShot S330 doesn't appear in iPhoto '08

Plugged USB cable into camera and Mac. Turned on camera. Opened iPhoto. Camera does not appear in list.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    harv47

    Thanks, TD and Keith.
In reading the Fine Manual, Canon recommends that the camera be powered from the wall, rather than from batteries, while uploading. On a hunch, I exchanged the battery in the camera for a fresh one, and put the used one in the charger.
This time, connecting the camera brought iPhoto right up.
So, add to the list "Use a fresh battery or wall power."
    Best,

  • Canon PowerShot S20 isn't recognized by iPhoto

My CanonPowerShot S20 suddenly isn't recognized by iPhoto. I know that the USB port is ok because it will sync with my iPhoto at work. I tried reinstalling iPhoto but that didn't help. Any suggestions?

    You shouldn't need Canon's software.
One easy way to check out your system is to create a new user and try iPhoto there.

  • IPhoto 09 no longer recognises old iPhoto pictures downloaded from old iMac

My new imac is great but the old picture files from my previous two imacs appear as thumbnails or jpegs but when i click on them in iPhoto i get a blank page. how do i view/edit my old pix?

Terence, Thank you for all the work you invest in helping people.
I have installed iphoto 11 and had only one problem with adding additional photos to my books. It seemed to get corrected in the last OS update (10.6.5). My problem is I am afraid to go on with 11 because of all the issues I see on these forums. I had backups and I have gone back to 09 on my wife's Imac. I have one issue on it not showing the images for photos I added after a certain date. The count in the events is correct, but no image shows. I know I can fix it with some investment of time.
At this stage I would rather stick with 11. I am scanning a lot of old time family photos and making books. For safety I am exporting all scanned photos to a separate file on my HD in case 11 goes belly up on me. That takes a lot of extra work to try to keep the exported photos organized in case I ever had to use them to restore back to 09.
I am 81 years old and time is important to me in trying to accomplish my goals for the family photos left by my parents. Even though I have used Macs since 1984, I am not as sharp on the technical issues anymore. I am comfortable with iphoto 11 functionality. I am just worried there is some bug lurking out there that will bite me when I keep making my photo library bigger or add some software item to my system. Right now I am at 5,600 photos in my library and I have started numerous books I want to eventually publish and some I have already published. My books are photo essays and involve a lot of work. Losing them would be devastating. I do have them backed up with time machine.
I think a lot of the problems people are having are compatibility issues which Apple will eventually fix. They always have fixed things but this one sounds like a big fix is needed. You have been around awhile, do you think Apple is seriously working to make this product as good as the past products any time soon? Do you have access to the Apple engineering activities that would indicate they have a high degree of urgency to improving the product?
Old Toad and others, if you have any opinions on this I would be interested what you think.
I am not interested in receiving more gripes about Iphoto and Apple. I am just looking for comfort that Apple considers this a serious serious problem that needs to be solved sooner than later. I think they are a great company and have the resources to alleviate these issues in a timely manner.

  • Apple TV No Longer Displays My iPhotos After Recent Update

While I have had the Apple TV 2 for the past 18 months and have had no problem with it displaying my selected photos via iPhoto and the Cloud as a screensaver, it no longer loads nor shows my selected photos since the most recent Apple TV update. However, the screensaver shows the generic Apple photos, such as the preloaded photos from National Geographic, etc., yet I can not get it to show my personal photo stream, even though they are selected in the preferences. When I click on "preview" under the screen saver preferences, I am stuck with Apple's infamous "loading" icon.
Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone have any solutions? Your prompt an professional response would be greatly appreciated!

I have the same issue, though it isn't consistent. If I reset/power down, it works once then stops. I can get it to work with preview, tho sometimes it gets stuck loading. Usually, It just goes black.

  • Mainstage no longer recognising caf files after update!?

I just installed the update to Logic and Mainstage, and am really happy with the improvements in Loopback and Playback, but I just tried exporting a CAF file from Logic to use in Playback and it doesn't let me sync it up... which it should do with CAF files.... am I missing something here?

I'm wondering what you mean by this. I have UB and a playback track in the same patch, and when I move around in the playback file, i.e. from marker to marker, UB doesn't seem to stay in time with the playback track. Granted, it could be because I have UB running in sequencer mode, but I don't know of any other way to run it in MainStage, other than triggered by external MIDI. How are YOU getting it to sync?

  • How do I retrieve my photos from iPhoto after Yosemite 10.10.3 update on my Macbook Pro?

I have a MacBook Pro and just updated to OS X Yosemite 10.10.3
I noticed I had the Photos icon that the same as on my iPhone was on the dock where my iPhoto icon was.  How do I get my photos from iPhoto?
    Thank you in advance!

Apple does not sell iPhoto any more at the App Store.
But you should be able to reinstall from the Purchased tab of the AppStore, if iPhoto is showing among your purchases. You may need to unhide your purchases.  Also try the "Updates" tab at the App Store.
See this post by Tom Perkins:
Re: how do i sort albums by date in the new photos app?
I just went through the situation of not finding iPhoto 9.6.1 in the App Store. Working with Applecare, the solution was to (a) delete the iPhoto app, (b) restart my iMac, (c) go to the App store and click on Purchases, and (d) reinstall iPhoto. In my case, for some reason, iPhoto was hidden from my purchases.  Go to Store > View My Account, and go to Manage for Hidden Purchases, where you can unhide iPhoto.  Once I did that, things seemed to work okay.

  • B75MA-E33 - long time to post after installing most recent bios update

I installed the bios update from the product page for this motherboard and flashed it directly from the utility within the bios.  It installed fine, but after installing this update the post time has increased from about 10 seconds to anywhere between one and five minutes.  It sits on the screen with the "A2" code in the bottom right corner before loading the msi splash screen.  I searched the forum but didn't see anyone else reporting this.  Anyone have any idea what's causing this?  I verified that the settings in the bios haven't changed.

  • Canon SX260HS no longer recognized by iPhoto

After upgrading to Mavericks my Canon SX260HS is no longer recognized by iPhoto. When plugged in to a USB port the system report shows the camera, but iPhoto does not mount the camera. The camera briefly displays "communication error" on its display.  The SD card can be read by using a standalone card reader attached to another USB port.  Looks like some change to the camera communications in Mavericks is at fault, but other than using a card reader I see no solution.  Help?

    tulsamini:
Wow. You've answered nearly all the questions I was going to ask. What version QT are you running?
Try logging into another account on your Mac and see if the camera can be recognized there. If it is then there's an issue with your primary account. Also try booting into Safe Mode and again check to see if the camera can be seen in your primary account.
Booting into Safe Mode runs the File System Check (fsck) during the boot and only loads the basic minimum extensions, etc. needed by the system. See What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? (Mac OS X). Again this will see if there's something that you've added that is causing the problem.
A workaround until you find a solution is to use a card reader. IMO, it's the best way to upload from a camera.
    Do you Twango?
