Canon PowerShot G11 on linux

Hello.
I've been trying to use my digital camera (G11) as a removable storage device through the USB interface on a laptop computer that doesn't include a built-in memory card reader. So far I've had little success: plugging the camera into the computer and turning it on only freezes the camera's embedded operating system, no automounting dialog or anything. There's also no record of this ever happening in dmesg, which I find rather weird.
Anyone know if this is actually possible on linux? Is there a special driver / hack I can try?

Have you tried using gphoto2 to download your pictures?

You can Import photos to the Preview app from there if you want or another photo editing app you have installed.

  • Canon PowerShot G11 won't mount on iMac, will mount on MacBookPro

We have a Canon PowerShot G11. It refuses to mount (either through iPhoto, Image Capture, or Disk Utility) when plugged into our iMac (iMac10,1) 3.06 Intel Core Duo. We plug the USBcable directly into the iMac. The iMac is running 10.6.5
We also have a MacBook Pro running 10.5.8 (2.4 Intel Core Duo, MacBookPro4,1).
Plug the camera into that computer and it brings up iPhoto automatically every time.
Plenty of disk space on both machines. Annoying! Any answers?

I've seen quite a few posts regarding Canons not mounting on the desktop - I have a Canon myself; I've decided to avoid the issue by simply using a USB card reader (or use the built-in reader if you Mac has one) - solves not only the problem, but saves the batteries.

  • After installing canon camera window 8.8.0.10 "No camera found". My Powershot G11 worked fine before installing OS x lion

"No camera found" messagers have occured since installing OS X Lion. I downloaded latest software Camera Window DC 8.8.0.10. Still the software cannot find my Canon Posershot G11. Software and OS Snow Leopard worked fine since I got my camera.

stefan, try using a different usb port.  i had the same problem and when i changed usb ports it worked.  not sure if it's because one port on my mbp is powered and the other isn't...?  when i changed to the powered usb port camera window worked, it recognized my g11 right away...then it worked on the other port afterwards...i can't explain why this would happen.  anyway, good luck i hope this helps.

  • Can no longer play video from Canon PowerShot with QT Pro

Don't know what's changed. I have played these videos many times before. They were taken by my son who is active duty Navy overseas, so they are important to me. The "Movie Info" from QT says the format is: 8-bit Unsigned Integer, Mono, 11.024 kHz/MJPG, 320 x 240, Millions. QT "Movie Properties" list MVI_0025.mov, but the Audio Settings and Presentation choices are greyed out. The Video Trach is shown as MJPG as you would expect. I can't "save as" or "export" so re-encoding is out. I'm at a loss here. Why they played before and not now is beyond me. They were added to my Hard Drive via Iomega's Floppy plus 7-in-1 card reader. The actual video was taken with a Canon PowerShot A510 and recorded to a SanDisk 512MB SD Card which I copied to my hard drive through the card reader with no problems. My G4 runs great with no problems. These videos were added to two logins which both fail to play now. Sound is fine. Anyone have any ideas how this could have happened or what to do?

    QuickTimeKirk,
Fortunately I can boot to OS9.2. The problem is that the OS goes so far back in time that I'm not sure I could figure out where to install a codec that would work. And I'm afraid the bigger problem is, where would I download the right codec? (In OS9 that would be a QuickTime plug-in, right?) I tried Classic, using QuickTime 5.0.2. No good. I get the standard message "Some necessary QuickTime software is missing. It may be available on the QuickTime Web site." I guess when I saw MJPG I was really thinking MJPEG and couldn't se why it wouldn't work. I see now that these are very different codecs. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I did some digging and I believe the codec needed came with QuickTime 2.5. Also, if it makes any difference, I neglected to say that I use Flip4Mac WMV. I don't see how that would adversely effect a video file with a MJPG format but I thought I should mention it. Thanks for responding!

  • Canon Powershot A75 no longer recognised by iPhoto after 7.1.3 (364) update

We have been importing photos from our Canon Powershot A75 to our iMac G5 (now running Leopard 10.5.2) for some time.
This morning an auto update for iPhoto was applied, taking iPhoto to 7.1.3 (364).
Now iPhoto won't recognise our camera at all. I've tried different USB ports. Made sure it is in photo playback mode. No joy.
    Any suggestions?

You might try reapplying the Mac OS X 10.5.2 Combo Update.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • On my canon powershot A3300IS the lense is stuck in the extended position and will not close

I have a canon powershot A3300 IS  the lense is stuck in the extended position and will not close. How can I fix this myself?

    Forneypamela,
Please remove the battery from the camera for a few minutes.  Then, put the battery back in the camera and power it on again.  If the lens is still stuck in the extended position, the camera is going to need service.  I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
To start your repair process, you'll need to complete a Repair Request on our website.
If the camera is more than a year old, you may participate in the Canon Loyalty Program instead.  The Canon Loyalty Program option allows you to replace your current camera for a discounted fee, plus shipping.  The unit offered through this program carries a 90 day warranty.  The original non-functioning camera would then be returned to Canon USA for recycling using a prepaid shipping label that would be provided.
If you would like to take part in this option, please call our Sales Department at (800) OK CANON (800-652-2666) seven days a week, 8am to Midnight.  Let them know you have been working with online support and the Canon Loyalty Program was offered.  Be sure to have your serial number for your camera at the time of your call.

  • Iv'e upgraded my iMac to 10.6.8 and now microsoft office 2004 and my canon powershot camera software will not work. any suggestions?

I just upgraded my iMac to 10.6.8. Now my Microsoft office applications,(word, excel, ppt) and my camera software to transfer picts from my camera will not launch. (Separate apps but all stopped working as soon as I upgraded from 10.5.8). The software for the Canon Powershot is Ver.37.2. Image browser 6.2 EOS utility 1.1.  Any help would be appreciated.
Also if you could tell me what happens to the individual jpegs that get imported through iPhoto, I would go back to using that instead of the Canon software. I want to be able to go into a folder and see all the jpegs and not have to rely on iPhoto's one enormous file. What happens if that iPhoto file gets corrupt? Thanks, Leesha

Actually, Microsoft Office 2004 works fine with Snow Lepoard OS 10.6.x. However, it does require Rosetta, Apple's app for Classic apps. In your upgrade from Lepoard 10.5.8, Rosetta may not have installed but you can manually install it with the instructions here.
On another note, when upgrading the OS, some anomalies get resolved by repairing disk permissions with Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
One more note, there was an issue with Rosetta crashing with OS 10.6.8 in February 2012. Apple released a security update that fixed it. You can see if Software Update (launch from the Apple menu) shows it or manually download Security Update 2012-001 v1.1 and install it. Software Update will also show other applicable apps available for updating for your upgraded system.
Rosetta is no longer available with OS 10.7 Lion and beyond. Then you will need to upgrade MS Office 2011 for Mac.

  • HT201317 Can I access my photos loaded onto my iPad 2 from a Canon Powershot on my iMac running 10.6.8?

I recently took approximately 300 pictures with a Canon Powershot camera during a 2 week vacation. During this time frame I put the photos onto my iPad 2 via an adapter and deleted them from my camera's memory card. Upon return my camera and iPad 2 were stolen. Fortunately I had Photo Stream on and the photos were stored in the cloud. I have since replaced the iPad 2 with the latest iPad and have the photos. I am now attempting to load them onto my iMac and am not able to do it. I am assuming because I have a 7-year old iMac running version 10.6.8 of Snow Leopard I will be able to access and properly store my photos. I am correct?

Save the photos to the camera roll on the iPad, then connect it to your computer with a USB cable. You can import the photos using iPhoto if you have it or image capture if you don't.

how to set raw format  for canon powershot  a1100 is ? ,,according to the specs online it can.

It requires the Canon Hacker's Developement Kit (CHDK). It runs off of your SD card and does not harm your camera. Download a program called Stick-

Follow the directions and you will be able to shoot in RAW along with some other deatures not available on your camera previously.

  • PSE11: How to import Raw files from Canon Powershot SX60 HS Bridge Camera? [was: Dear Sir,]

I have just purchased a Canon Powershot SX60 HS Bridge Camera. I have Photoshop Elements 11 and I cannot import Raw files. How do I download the latest version of Camera Raw into Elements 11?
    T.W. Gasby

Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
    With Elements 11 you cannot.
The SX60 HS was first supported in  Camera Raw 8.7 which is only compatible with Elements 13 and later.
    Options:
Pay to upgrade to Elements 13
Free option: download the Adobe DNG converter, convert all SX60 HS Raw files to DNG format then edit the DNGs in Elements 11
Photoshop Help | Digital Negative (DNG)

Why can't Bridge open my raw files from my new Canon Power Shot 120-S camera? I'm using PS-5 and had no problems with other Canon cameras. I downloaded Adobe Camera Raw 8 but this has not resolved the problem.

    1. you need cr 8.3+ for the Canon PowerShot S120
    2. ps cs5 can only update to cr 6.7
free solution: use the dng converter: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5694
integrated solution: upgrade to ps cc.  here are the options (but especially note the photographer plan for 9.99/mo) - http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/buying-guide.html

  • Is there a way to import photos from Canon Powershot S45 after downloading Yosemite?

Is there a way to import photos from a Canon Powershot S45 after downloading Yosemite?

I was reading another post yesterday about a Canon PowerShot S40 owner who previously used Image Capture to bring the images into the computer. They reached out to Canon and were returned a response stating that the drivers weren't compatible for OS X Yosemite. The best bet would be a card reader. The JPEG files are still going to be the same, but connecting with a USB cable directly to the camera isn't feasible any more. Head to the nearest Best Buy and pick up a USB card reader and you'll be able to see your pictures in Finder and can then import them to iPhoto or wherever you keep your pictures.

  • DNG Converter won't recognize Canon Powershot S95 CR2

I've just installed the latest version (6.2) of DNG Converter. When I point it to a small directory (5 files) of .cr2 files from my Canon Powershot S95, it gives me the following message:  “The source folder does not contain any supported camera raw files.”  It works fine with .nef files from a Nikon D80.  I notice that the list of cameras in the Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Adobe/Camera Raw/Camera Profiles folder includes the S90 but not the S95.  Is there really a difference between the files produced by the two, or am I making a mistake somewhere?

    Thank you.
