Canon PowerShot SD870 Video

I wanna edit some video I shot with my PowerShot SD870 IS (point and shoot camera).
The video is 640x480 at 30fps. I can't find any DV NTSC settings for 640x480 at 30fps in Final Cut Pro. Can anyone tell me how to set up the video preferences for that video.
Right now I have FCP set at DV NTSC 48 kHz, but the Video Playback says it's at 720x480. The aspect ration looks ok but it needs to be rendered as soon as I place a file from the camera into FCP.
Thanks
Bob Coulter

Not at my system, but you could try going to A/V Settings, select the Sequence Preset tab. Click on the DV-NTSC preset and hit 'Edit'. Make changes to the preset 'copy' to match your media, then name the preset as one you'll recognize for that media format, then close the interface.
Open a new sequence and see if the media plays w/o needing to render.
Not sure it'll work, but seems I've seen discussions here that FCP will work with AVI files.
If not, you may need to convert them to an FCP compatible editing format...like DV-NTSC.
You might be able to do this with QTPro, or try MPEGStreamclip...might even be able to export directly out of FCP as DV-NTSC-720x480 / AIFF-48kHz-16bit.
Let us know how it all works out.

  • Canon Powershot sx50 video quality problems

I'm relatively new at working with video editing. I use Adobe Premiere Elements 9, and when I record with my Canon Powershot sx50 HS I get fuzz or fog when playing it on my computer. It's odd because when I put the video on my Samsung S4 and convert it into MP4 format the quality looks way better than on my computer. If I could get someone's email also I can hit up about general questions that would be awsome. I basically want to get the best quality out of the camera as possible. My lighting in my room is good so I don't understand why I get fog on my computer but not on my phone. As for my settings I use the DSLR-1080p DSLR-1080p24 then MPEG - Preset H.264 1920X1080i 30 which is Widescreen 16:9 Profile: High - Level: 4.0 - VBR,1 Pass Target Bitrate 20 Mbps Max Bitrate 21 Mbps Framerate 29.97 fps I'm wondering if my settings are wrong? What are the best Premiere Elements settings for a Cannon sx50?

I found a solution that works for me and since there are no other suggestions I'll pass it along in case others have this same problem.  What I ended up doing is installing CineForm and using it to convert AVCHD to HD.  It handles the 24p inside a 60i container issue and the converted files, when imported into PP CS4, look perfect.  The only drawback is that CineForm is not freeware but the price was more than worth the aggrevation it eliminated.

  • Canon Powershot S95 video und raw compatibility

I'm considering to buy a Canon PowerShot S95 camera. Does anyone already have experiences how well this camera works together with the iPad and the camera connection kit? Will the photo app display the S95's RAW files? And will the iPad play back 720p videos from this camera when transferred with the camera connection kit (not via iTunes sync)?

I have the S90 (and two Panasonic MFT-cameras) and there are no problems to import the RAW-files to my iPad using the Camera Connection Kit.
I always do that when I travel and I use Lightroom to transfer them to my iMac at home and that too works fine.
All in all I don´t need to bring my MacBook to backup my pictures from my SD-card anymore. iPad takes care of that.

  • Profile for Canon Powershot SD870 (Ixus 860)

I could not find a Lens/Camera profile for the SD870 so I created one myself.  It does help and shows I neat it is to make these corrections.  I don't know much about setting my camera and very little about Lightroom 3, except that both are excellent products.
I will upload my profile, but first I would like to see if I can improve it or find a better one.
    Limitation is my profile:
Small target - Legal 5x13 72 Points, therefore camera close to target.
    Shooting in auto mode.
Not knowing what I am doing
    As to my profile questions.
What do I put for Screen Dimension (pixels)?  in the Adobe Lens Profile Creator
Has anyone else profiled the SD870?  If so, they have probably done a better job.
Does the Adobe profile have any relationship with the Raw profile I see when I google about this?
    Thanks for any help
    Richard

I found the answer to one of my questions.  The ruler for the screen dimension is part of the Profile Maker. These are good instructions.

  • Using a Digital Camera (like a Canon Powershot/Elph/Ixus) with iChat

    Hello
Anybody know if its possible to use a small digital camera like a Canon Powershot with video capabilites with iChat - instead of an iSight or built in camera like on the new Intel MacBooks?
    Thanks

My current camera on my G4 is a stills camera.
It is a Kodak DC4800 of some vintage now.
It has a PAL (or NTSC) TV signal that it can output.
From there I use a DV Converter to get it into iChat.
Effectively this means it depends on the Output and what you have to get it in to iChat.
If the camera can stream Video then it is better if you have a Firewire device.
If the Camera can be seen by iMovie but not iChat then try
http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/ as it would then have Mac Drivers if it has a USB connector.

  • Can no longer play video from Canon PowerShot with QT Pro

Don't know what's changed. I have played these videos many times before. They were taken by my son who is active duty Navy overseas, so they are important to me. The "Movie Info" from QT says the format is: 8-bit Unsigned Integer, Mono, 11.024 kHz/MJPG, 320 x 240, Millions. QT "Movie Properties" list MVI_0025.mov, but the Audio Settings and Presentation choices are greyed out. The Video Trach is shown as MJPG as you would expect. I can't "save as" or "export" so re-encoding is out. I'm at a loss here. Why they played before and not now is beyond me. They were added to my Hard Drive via Iomega's Floppy plus 7-in-1 card reader. The actual video was taken with a Canon PowerShot A510 and recorded to a SanDisk 512MB SD Card which I copied to my hard drive through the card reader with no problems. My G4 runs great with no problems. These videos were added to two logins which both fail to play now. Sound is fine. Anyone have any ideas how this could have happened or what to do?

    QuickTimeKirk,
Fortunately I can boot to OS9.2. The problem is that the OS goes so far back in time that I'm not sure I could figure out where to install a codec that would work. And I'm afraid the bigger problem is, where would I download the right codec? (In OS9 that would be a QuickTime plug-in, right?) I tried Classic, using QuickTime 5.0.2. No good. I get the standard message "Some necessary QuickTime software is missing. It may be available on the QuickTime Web site." I guess when I saw MJPG I was really thinking MJPEG and couldn't se why it wouldn't work. I see now that these are very different codecs. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I did some digging and I believe the codec needed came with QuickTime 2.5. Also, if it makes any difference, I neglected to say that I use Flip4Mac WMV. I don't see how that would adversely effect a video file with a MJPG format but I thought I should mention it. Thanks for responding!

  • Canon Powershot SD600 as video source?

Currently considering the purchase of a new digital photocamera, the Canon Powershot SD600. One of the things I hope to use it for, is as a 'webcam' ... my Powerbook doesn't have a built-in iSight and I don't use it often enough to actually buy an iSight for these video chat purposes.
    So my question is ...
Can an external camera be used as a 'video source' on my Powerbook ... and can it be used in iChat?

I would guess it depends on how dark the room really is. The SX60 has a very small sensor in it and starts to get noisy if the lighting is too low. That camera does not have a real fast lens and quickly loses light catching ability as you zoom in. Can you add some additional lighting to help your situation? I realize that may not be a possibility. Is there any way you can increase the ISO setting just a bit, or make sure the aperture is as close to f3.4 when shooting? These may not be available in video modes, but if they are, it could help you.
Cameras with larger sensors and brighter lenses will generally do better in lower light situations. If you are doing a lot of shooting in the dark you might need to consider a second camera with these traits.

  • How to disable the anti-shake feature on a canon powershot elph 330 hs when taking video?

    Hello Canon Users,
I have a question in regards to my Canon Powershot ELPH 330 HS. Most of the time, I use this camera sitting down and talking into it. The Anti-Shake feature is excellent for taking video when moving around, but when sitting down, the following happens. When I move, the background moves a bit making the video very unstable and it looks horrible. Is there a way to disable the anti shake/image stability feature? Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!

See, what happens is, I have my camera on a stable surface (my tripod), Then, when I move, for example moving my hands or my body slightly, the background shakes a little bit. I don't know why, but I'm assuming it has something to do with the stabilization. If I stay perfectly still, the background will not move, and everything will be fine. But even the slightest hand gestures or body movement makes the background shake.

  • Problems with transitions and HD video from a Canon Powershot....

    Hello:
First of all thanks a lot for taking the time to look at the question.
I have recently bought a Canon PowerShot SX200 IS, mainly for photos but it can also record HD video.
The videos it makes are H.264, 1280 x 720, Millions
PCM lineal, 16 bit little-endian entero firmado, 1 canales, 44100 Hz and are .mov
I have a Mac Pro, 2.66 with 5GB of RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB videocard.
and finally my Final Cut is 6.0.6
    __Ok, so here´s the problem:__
I can play the videos on Final Cut with no problem, it just has to render the music but when I want to use any dissolve it doesn´t work, well it doesn´t work with any transition at all between the same videos of the canon or with others formats.
To explain a little better I give you an example. I drag the cross dissolve to two different videos of the same camera and they don´t stick or sometimes it only sticks on one of them, but mainly it doesn´t stick.
    Any ideas?
If you need more info please let me know.

    *ohh, thanks Nick :)*
Now I get it, this solves so many question of failed transitions that I never realized over the years, hehe. +I know I say that it was the first time but with the answer I just get it that I had this problem before but I didn´t connect with this one :(+
Now it seems so obvious that I feel a little dumb but it´s better 15 minutes of stupidity that a whole life of it Well in my case it was like 4 years but it´s better than a life time, hehe.
Thank you all for thanking the time to answer my question.

  • Cannot import video from Canon Powershot G9

We just bought a Canon Powershot G9 and have had no trouble importing photos taken on it into our iPhoto (7.1.3). But we cannot import the video taken on the camera at all: every time we try iPhoto crashes and shuts as it starts the import process. We've saved the .avi files to a folder but even when playing them in VLC we get sound but no video. We're using iMac with OS 10.4.11.
Can anyone help in how to get the video from the G9 into iPhoto? We've also tried the Canon software and iMovie but neither worked.

    Hi Terence,
    Thanks for your promt response
I didn't move the file to the desktop because mp4s from my camera are imported by default to iphoto. Recently though, they have been corrupted or just not appearing at all in iphoto or anywhere else.
But I thought about it for a while and wondered if I could import them to (yes, you've guessed it) imovie HD!
I've gone for months looking everywhere for a solution to my problem, but not only was there no help in my mac, neither was the web any use. Consequently, I lost loads of precious little movies, (grandchildren, etc.) thinking the files were corrupt and not worth keeping.
You've obviously realised that I am not a computer geek, but thanks to 'lack of simple knowledge' being available on the net; thanks to you (indirectly) I managed to solve my problem.
I can't help wondering why on earth Apple doesn't admit that iphoto will 'baulk at importing anything that's too big', and simply suggest that newbies to Macs should import movies to imovie.
Thanks again for your clue to sorting out my problem.....now solved.

  • IPod Video and camera connector with Canon PowerShot Pro1

Does anybody have a new iPod video with a camera connector and a Canon PowerShot Pro1? I'm having trouble downloading images to my iPod?
Every time I connect the camera to my iPod, I get the message on the iPod screen that says "no card inserted".
I've tried 3 different memory cards in my camera with the same results.

Don't know about the Pro 1. My Canon XT works fine. In the menu for the XT, I have COMMUNICATION: My choices are A)Print/PCP and 2)PC Connection. Print/PCP must be selected for it to work on mine. Check the menu of your Pro 1.

  • Import videos from Canon Powershot camera to iMovie

I recently bought the Canon Powershot D30 underwater camera. I tried to import the video clips to iMovie without success. It can only export to iPhoto and the video clips when dragged to iMovie became still shots. How do I transfer the videos to iMovie for editing? I have a MacBook Pro with iMovie 11

Not sure of what you mean when you "never find where the video went". Did you use the import function of iMovie or ? If it is from the camera software, I suspect the video went to your Movies folder in your user folder. But...
Just checked this out and it is simple. I assume your video is on an SD card or something like that. Just download the movie to your desktop from the camera, then open iMovie 09 and go to the import function under the file menu and import the movie from your desktop. As to

Which project settings for project for Canon Powershot Video Editing?
I want to edit video taken with a Canon Powershot SD 550 taken in NTSC 640 x 480. When I start a new project, which project settings should I be using? Hunt,
This user has two thread topics here that are identical to ones at the forum which I frequent. Early on I  downloaded video from the Canon Powershot that he says he is using for the basis of my comments. So, I have put that video through gspot myself. Since the user is going between the two forums (mostly here), I did not want anything lost in the back and forth. The goal is to help attainment of the goal. That is why I am including comments at both locations:
    At The Other Forum
    Project Settings Thread
    http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52299
    Rotation Thread
    http://www.elementsvillage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=52298
The user has gotten back to me on the video rotation issue, thanking me, but telling me that another workflow was identified...and, as I note, generously shared with both sites. I am in the process of personally checking out what he said worked for him in that regard. However, the user has not gotten back to me on the topic of project settings.
So to expedite matters, when you get a chance, could you please check out my comments in that thread? I would be interested in your perspective on the matter and what I wrote.
    Thanks.
