Canon PowerShot SX280 HS disconnects while transferring photos

I have a Canon PowerShot SX280 HS. I can connect it to wifi. It finds my iPhone and works well with the app.
It finds my iMac and it connects: software starts, transfer of images starts, but then the camera is disconnected suddenly, message:
"The camera has been disconnected. The software will now close."
I don't know why it gets disconnected.

Hi
I have recieved a responce from Canon, they asked me to download and install this version:
http://support-my.canon-asia.com/contents/MY/EN/0200234102.html
Setup instruction
1. Download "ibxm-inst-1-1-0-17-u01-9l.dmg.gz" from the download page.
Save "ibxm-inst-1-1-0-17-u01-9l.dmg.gz" to a folder of your choice on your computer.
2. Double-click "ibxm-inst-1-1-0-17-u01-9l.dmg.gz".
After decompressing the file, "ibxm-inst-1-1-0-17-u01-9l.dmg" will be created.
3. Double-click "ibxm-inst-1-1-0-17-u01-9l.dmg". A drive named "IBXM_INST_11" will be automatically generated on the desktop.
4. Double-click the "IBX11INST" inside the "IBXM_INST_11" drive.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
But it did nor change anything, I then disabled my firewall, and after that I could download pictures.
I have to run wirh firewall so there have to be a differen solution.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Unfortunately, if Apple simply allowed people to log into different accounts and download content, everyone would be using everyone could share everyone else's content and bypass the need to purchase anything. To protect against this, they limit you to logging into a new account to once every 90 days.
If two or more of you, have different accounts and use only one computer, you should each have your own user account on the computer, to avoid the need to log in and out of iTunes.

  • Automatically disconnects while transferring songs!!

I have just bought a shuffle and am having major problems. I already have itunes 6 installed and my girlfriend uses her shuffle fine on my computer. Hence the reason that i wanted one too.
When she plugs her shuffle in it updates fine, when mine is plugged in iTunes sees it fine and starts to transfer songs but then suddenly disconnects and starts all over again. Why?
I am worried that this disconnecting while updating is going to cause damage to my shuffle.
We do everything identical how can hers work but mine plays silly buggers!!!

It could be a loose connection. Make sure you keep everything really still while syncing.
Do you get errors from Windows/iTunes when the shuffle disconnects?
If you are using a "front" USB port, you should try a "rear" USB port (you can get extension cables to avoid the need to plug the shuffle into the back of the computer).

  • Unreadable Error Message While Transferring Photos

Hi. Wonder if anyone can give me some ideas about what may have gone wrong while trying to transfer photos from the SD card in my Kodak DX6440 Digital Camera into iPhoto 6 in the Mac Mini.
I have visited the support pages for the Kodak camera, the Kingston SD card, as well as Apple's pages for iPhoto for some clues, but haven't found anything.
Here is the set-up. Have this wonderful 1.25 GHz PowerPC G4, with 1 GB of RAM, Mac Mini with the latest updates installed. Photo library still in the 40 GB internal with 15 GB still available.
The DX6440 Kodak camera has the latest firmware.
So far, until today, this Apple computer experience has been rather blissfully trouble free. (Even with this event, I have felt no where near the kind of frustration that my Windows machine regularly generates!)
Here's what happened: put camera on dock and pressed button to import pictures into iPhoto. IPhoto 6 comes up and recognizes camera no problem. Begins importing the photos and succeeds in importing the first 15 or so of the 187 before stalling. By "stalling," I actually mean IPhoto seems to be working on something for a little while and then presents an error message saying that the rest of the pictures are "unreadable." I tried starting over and importing the photos several times without success even trying to after quitting and restarting iPhoto, doing a shutdown and rebooting the Mac Mini, taking out and putting the card back in the camera while it was off and disconnected from the computer. None of these have helped. You should know several addition items: iPhoto stops on the same picture and does import it but with varying degrees of completeness ie. may be only the top 50% of the picture or the top 70% of the same picture each time I have tried to import all of the photos. I would have deleted this troublesome image and moved on if it wasn't just about the best one of the whole group! All images can be viewed on the screen of the camera, no problem. Yes, this is the first batch of photos I took using this brand new Kingston 512 MB SD card. Before this and while leading that blissful Apple computer life, I had been using a SanDisk 256 MB SD card in the camera. (Kodak support pages says that the camera can handle SD cards ranging from 8 to 512MB. Glad I didn't buy that 1 GB SD card I was looking at.)
Additional information: I connected the camera to my windows 98 machine and of course, while it tried to prepare to import the pictures it froze/crashed. Ha ha ha.. had to unplug, reboot, watch it chide me for not shutting down properly and scan disk. When I rebooted the win98 computer I had a brainstorm and used this computer as a guinea pig, not risking my beloved Mac Mini. Ha ha ha. Okay, sorry. I plugged the camera in directly into the usb, not using the dock and it loaded into "my computer." Opened and then clicked on each file and imported them one at a time into Kodak Easyshare program. The point of my evil window-rabbling is the images could be read as files and photos just fine and came up in viewer no problem. Even the image that had been imported only partially in iPhoto came up fine and complete. I even burned two photo CD's and imported the photos easily into iPhoto on the Mac Mini this way.
Here are my questions: Could the new SD card be corrupting only the importing process since the photo files themselves seem to be readable afterall? If I had forgone the dock and connected the camera directly to the Mac Mini, would it have mounted on the desktop and then could I have opened the pictures in preview and clicked and dragged either one or all of the images into iPhoto and have it work this way? Would it have worked clicking and dragging the images directly on to the iPhoto icon in Tiger's dock, without the use of preview? Would repairing permissions make a difference? This last probably not the thing as it killed the window98 computer as well, but hey. Is there anything else that I am overlooking?
Any ideas, even if just brainstorming, would be very much appreciated as I always like to know more about things, so I am better prepared next time. Thank you so much for perservering through this long post!- WP.

Hi, WP. Looks like the trouble you're having seems to be iPhoto losing access to your card. I'm just guessing here, but considering that you get through the same number of photos each time before iPhoto complains that the pictures are unreadable, it sounds like the camera has been turning itself off or sleeping.
If there's a way to connect the camera directly via USB or something, you could try and see if iPhoto sees the mounted card and is able to import from it. A good way to also check your pictures for "readability" is to look at them via Image Capture - it lets you browse the photos if you click Download Some. Then you can confirm that the other photos are readable.
I'm sure image capture and iPhoto use the same services of the OS to download pictures, so if one works the other should. Maybe you should try and time the download - see if iPhoto "loses" the card exactly at the same time?
Maybe the easyshare's own software can talk to the camera and keep it awake, while iPhoto assumes the camera knows to stay awake? My directly connected cameras never sleep while importing.

  • IPhoto sees Canon Powershot camera but won't load photos

After I upgraded to Yosemite my iPhoto no longer would load photos. It sees my Powershot G3 camera but then gets stuck on loading... window.

Try to import directly from the camera's memory card via a card reader into iPhoto to see if iPhoto will recognize the card out of the camera.
If not use the card reader to upload the photos from card to a folder on the Desktop and import from there. Personally, that's my preferred way as it assures that the files are safely on the hard drive before importing into iPhoto.

While I was tranfserring photos message came up that home disk was full and iphoto kept quitting? Please help
What part of "full" is not clear?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on. Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.

  • Transferring photos from a Canon to my Mac

I recently bought a Canon Power Shot.  I have used it and transferred photos to my Mac and didnt have any problems. Now all of a sudden, I turned it on, to import the pictures to the computer, and the camera just turns itself off and the Mac says no camera detected !  I dont know if this is a problem with the camera or the Mac. The camera works fine when actually taking pictures.  Can anyone help ?

    Hi..
    Try this ...
Open Image Capture located in your Applications folder. Connect your camera.
    Select the camera under Devices.
Now click the pop up menu bottom left corner of the Image Capture window and select the app you want to import photos with to your Mac.
Before disconnecting the camera from your Mac, right or control click the camera icon on the Desktop then click Eject.

  • ARC rendering of DNG Files of photos shot with the new Canon Powershot G16 with "PSE V10 + CR 6.4.1" and with "PSE V13 + CR 8.6"

Because (for reasons which  are not relevant to my questions):  I can not reasonably migrate to the newest PSE Versions and I am more or less stuck for a couple of years to the use PSE V10. I am therefore looking for a relatively efficient solution to process/edit (a small percentage) of the RAW Files of my new/future camera(s) with the combination of PSE V10 and CR 6.4.1 (according to my understanding PSE V10 does not support CR 8.6 – PSE V10 does not even allow me to import RAW Files of new cameras into the PSE catalog).
I was hoping that the DNG Converter could be a good solution for me. I was intending
to convert the RAW Files of my new camera (and of my future new cameras) with an up-to-date version of the DNG converter,
import the .dng Files into PSE V10
and then look-at (and then for some few of them: edit) the DNG Files with the combination of PSE V10 and CR 6.4.1.
However, I got recently the impression, that the only Camera Profile of CR 6.4.1 that renders reasonably well the DNG Files of my new Canon Powershot G16 compact camera is the “Adobe Standard” Camera Profile.  In my tests with the combination of PSE V10 and ACR 6.4.1, the rendering of these DNG Files with other CR 6.4.1 Profiles (e.g. the “Camera Faithful” Profile) is (regarding colors and brightness/contrast) really ugly and (for a non-expert  like me) more or less unusable (while  the rendering of the same DNG File with the “Camera Faithfull” Profile of the combination of CR 8.6 + PSE V13 is quite reasonable).
May I please ask the following questions to somebody who is familiar with DNG and CR?
Do my observations (i.e. ugly rendering of Canon Powershot G16 photos with the “Camera Faithful Profile” of ACR 6.4.1) correspond to what DNG experts should and are expecting?
What is the probable reason of the ugly rendering of the “Camera Faithful” Profile of CR 6.4.1? Does the DNG converter not include a G16-specific “Camera Faithful” profile in the DNG file?
Or do you think, that I made something wrong and that I am the one to blame for the ugly rendering with the “Camera Faithful” Profile used by CR 6.4.1? If that’s the case: what did I probably do wrong and what can I do better?
Do you think that with the combination of PSE V10 and CR 6.4.1, I will have similar problems with the DNG conversion of Raw files of future cameras like the follow-on to the Nikon D5300 or D7100 (which I will probably like to buy once available)? Or do you think that the problems that I encountered with the Powershot G16 photos are unlikely to happen with most other new camwras?A lot of thanks in advance for your answers.
In case you might wish to look at the typical rendering of one of my DNG Files (created with Version 8.6.0.254 of the DNG converter)  of a Canon Powershot G16 .cr2 photo, I uploaded at  https://www.dropbox.com/l/T3LJyZWkBZpcKkNe8S8ufr
    following screenshots:
rendering with PSE V10 and CR 6.4.1 with the “Adobe Standard” Camera Profile” – looks OK
rendering with PSE V10 and CR 6.4.1 with the “Camera Faithful” Profile – looks ugly.
I did not create screenshots of the ugly rendering by CR 6.4.1 with other Camera Formats..
rendering with PSE V13 and CR 8.6 with the “Adobe Standard” Camera Profile – looks OK
rendering with PSE V13 and CR 8.6 with the “Camera Faithful” Profile – looks OK
screenshot of the unedited jpg. File created by the camera - looks OK

Thank You very much to all of You: in alphanumerical  sequence to 99jon, to R Kelly and to ssprengel. You spoiled me with the Information in your answers. Thank You very much for it.
Based on your answers I will first try the probably simplest solution: the download of ACR 6.7.
If that will not work for me, I will try/investigate  something else, that, if I interpret your suggestions correctly is the following: create with the combination of PSE 13 and ACR 8.6 profiles that I will try to use with the combination of PSE 10 and ACR 6.7 or 6.4. That is an idea that I was not at all aware of and that I owe to you.
All that is quite new to me, and I can therefore imagine that I will come back to you and ask for detailed suggestions or directions.
A Detail: it is on the same machine / same Windows-occurence that I have installed the combination of "PSE V10 + ACR 6.4" and the combination of "PSE V13 and ACR 8.6".
    1) The main reason why I can not use for my main real-life "productive" PSE Catalog the combination of "PSE V13 and ACR 8.6" is the lack of Support of/by the 32-bit mode "KODAK Digital ROC Professional" Filter/Plug-in in a PSE V13 Environment.  I need and will need that filter for a couple of years for the retouching/restoration of thousands  scanned Versions of my old slides that have a strong color-cast.  I am also using the 32-bit mode "Kodak Digital GEM Professional" Filter for a strong noise reduction in the scanned Versions of my old slides (but I can imagine, that I could find good 64-bit mode alternatives to the GEM Filter).
    2) In addition I have with the V12 and V13 PSE Editors,  for a lot of my photos files, problems with the wrong Dates/Times assigned by the V12/V13 PSE Editors to new file containing a new/edited version of my  Foto files.....
But these 2 previous items are other stories/problems  that I would like and shoud keep separate.
Thank You again for your wonderfull help.
    Robert

Hello, I just successfully copied my iPhoto (v.9.5.1) library to my WD My Book external hard drive. Then I uploaded photos from my various cameras (Canon Powershot & Canon SLR) to the My Book iPhoto only. It seemed successful and I was able to move some around & organize my events - seeing the pictures and even sending them through the iPhoto send program. But today when I reopen the My Book iPhoto, many of my pictures are missing (mostly the ones from the Canon SLR). I see the newly made events, but they have 0 pictures! I have shut down, disconnected the drive, reconnected & restarted = same thing. Can anyone tell me how to recover these photos? (They are still on the cameras' memory cards, so all is not lost!)
    thank you!

andrea, don't work with your iPhoto libraries at all, until you have freed a considerable amount of disk space on your Mac. Each iPhoto crash due to lack of disk space can leave you iPhoto library corrupted, and you cannot run a library repair with only 7GB of space available.
First free space by moving large media files of your drive, and then continue to trouble shoot your library.
The WD My Book was properly formatted & partitioned into 1TB (a Super Duper backup of my whole MacBook Pro) & 2TB (the place I plan to house all my photos/videos & work from to be able to get them off the computer hard drive).
How are you planning to backup the partition with your media (videos, photos)? Do you have a second drive to back them up also?

  • HT201317 Can I access my photos loaded onto my iPad 2 from a Canon Powershot on my iMac running 10.6.8?

I recently took approximately 300 pictures with a Canon Powershot camera during a 2 week vacation. During this time frame I put the photos onto my iPad 2 via an adapter and deleted them from my camera's memory card. Upon return my camera and iPad 2 were stolen. Fortunately I had Photo Stream on and the photos were stored in the cloud. I have since replaced the iPad 2 with the latest iPad and have the photos. I am now attempting to load them onto my iMac and am not able to do it. I am assuming because I have a 7-year old iMac running version 10.6.8 of Snow Leopard I will be able to access and properly store my photos. I am correct?

Save the photos to the camera roll on the iPad, then connect it to your computer with a USB cable. You can import the photos using iPhoto if you have it or image capture if you don't.

  • Is there a way to import photos from Canon Powershot S45 after downloading Yosemite?

Is there a way to import photos from a Canon Powershot S45 after downloading Yosemite?

I was reading another post yesterday about a Canon PowerShot S40 owner who previously used Image Capture to bring the images into the computer. They reached out to Canon and were returned a response stating that the drivers weren't compatible for OS X Yosemite. The best bet would be a card reader. The JPEG files are still going to be the same, but connecting with a USB cable directly to the camera isn't feasible any more. Head to the nearest Best Buy and pick up a USB card reader and you'll be able to see your pictures in Finder and can then import them to iPhoto or wherever you keep your pictures.

  • Is the Canon Powershot S2 IS Digital Camera compatible with an ipod photo?

I'm going on a roadtrip to the northwest next month and was wondering if anyone knows whether the Canon Powershot S2 IS Digital Camera compatible with an ipod photo?

You cannot, with a PC or a Mac, transfer photos from a camera directly to the iPod. You need to download the images from the camera to your computer first, then move the pictures from the computer to the iPod.
Not quite sure about that - from the Apple Store (UK):
Simply plug the iPod Camera Connector into the iPod dock connector, plug your camera’s USB cable and watch your images make their way to the iPod, ready to view in a slide show!
Compatible with iPod with color display.
    Not compatible with iPod nano.
    Requires iPod software v1.1.
    See http://www.apple.com/ipod/compatibility/cameraconnector.html for supported cameras.

  • Want to choose which photos to import from Canon Powershot

I used to be able to see all the photos on the camera and choose which ones to import. I had a hard drive failure and everything put back on but the iphoto 6 isn't showing me the photos its only letting me import all of them. Ho do I get it to do this again? the camera is canon powershot SD630.

Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
iPhoto 6 has never provided for selective downloading - iPhoto '08 and later do and image capture does - if your iPhoto library is working then you must have been using image capture - it is in your applications folder - you can launch it and see - and in its preferences you can set it to open when a camera is connected
