Canon Powershot SX510hs Noise Issues

Hi everybody. New to the forums. Bought a Powershot SX510hs in July of 2014. I mainly use it for action shots and videos for short films or my brother playing golf. For a while the pictures and videos came out amazing with bright colors and good clear picture. Now only 3-4 months later the cameras 1080p video is plauged by excessive noise at only 80 iso. The same is with pictures on a lesser extent. Hopefully Comebody knows whats wrong. And the camera has been kept in good shape and has never been dropped or banged around for that matter.
Thanks
Kyle

Kmurphy220,
Is there any possibility that you changed some settings in the camera? You may want to go into the menu and do a reset all to the camera defaults to see if that helps any. Is the lens dirty? Believe it or not, I kept getting my finger in the way of the focus assist beam and had a similar experience with low light situations where the camera needed the focus assist beam and gave me grainy photos. What mode are you shooting in? Do you have a fast enough shutter speed to compensate for hand shake, and are you using a wide or narrow aperture? Any information you can furnish will help the community to come up with a solution for you.

  • Canon  Vixia HV30 capture issue on CS6 (Mac OSX)

This might be (hopefully) something in setup, but under Mac OSX Lion (10.7.4) / Premiere CS6, i am unable to capture video from my Canon Vixia HV30 - it's either i get a monstruous noise or simply get a 'capture device offline' message.
No one ever had a similar problem even withanother cam here? I posted weeks ago but never got any reply.
Am using the same cam under Windows with Premiere CS4 and never faced such an issue.
Matter of some sort of CODEC ?  Does not seem to require any specific driver for Mac based on Canon website.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Solved... (Almost!)
Someone pointed out that Canon has a software (they said there was no driver for Mac OS X so I had stopped looking...) But if it may help others, there is a ''CameraWindow'' for Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8  available.
As soon as I installed it, I could capture both from Adobe Premiere CS6 and iMovie.
One problem remaining though : the noise (feedback-like) that gets out from... the system's sound card ! (when capture is ongoing). I have to shut down the volume completely.  Never had this issue under Windows, need to figure out why this happens now.
Jeff thanks again for your assistance, even though the solution was somewhere else.
If anyone has a clue for the noise issue ... please let me know

  • Iv'e upgraded my iMac to 10.6.8 and now microsoft office 2004 and my canon powershot camera software will not work. any suggestions?

I just upgraded my iMac to 10.6.8. Now my Microsoft office applications,(word, excel, ppt) and my camera software to transfer picts from my camera will not launch. (Separate apps but all stopped working as soon as I upgraded from 10.5.8). The software for the Canon Powershot is Ver.37.2. Image browser 6.2 EOS utility 1.1.  Any help would be appreciated.
Also if you could tell me what happens to the individual jpegs that get imported through iPhoto, I would go back to using that instead of the Canon software. I want to be able to go into a folder and see all the jpegs and not have to rely on iPhoto's one enormous file. What happens if that iPhoto file gets corrupt? Thanks, Leesha

Actually, Microsoft Office 2004 works fine with Snow Lepoard OS 10.6.x. However, it does require Rosetta, Apple's app for Classic apps. In your upgrade from Lepoard 10.5.8, Rosetta may not have installed but you can manually install it with the instructions here.
On another note, when upgrading the OS, some anomalies get resolved by repairing disk permissions with Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
One more note, there was an issue with Rosetta crashing with OS 10.6.8 in February 2012. Apple released a security update that fixed it. You can see if Software Update (launch from the Apple menu) shows it or manually download Security Update 2012-001 v1.1 and install it. Software Update will also show other applicable apps available for updating for your upgraded system.
Rosetta is no longer available with OS 10.7 Lion and beyond. Then you will need to upgrade MS Office 2011 for Mac.

  • Canon powershot s5 image acquisition

    Hi.
Am I able to control/acquire images from a Canon Powershot S5 IS digital camera in LV 8.6?
I have managed to get this working with a simple USB webcam, using the NI-IMAQ for USB, but I can't find the Canon camera in IMAQ (it works with its own software).
Is this a driver issue since I think the Canon uses a TWAIN driver?
    Thanks

You might look at HYtek Automation's PTPCam Toolkit. The link indicates that many cameras are configured as USB storage devices as default. You may need to change your camera to PTP mode in order to see it as an imaging device.

  • MacBook Air not recognizing Canon PowerShot

I just got home from vacation excited to import photos to my MacBook Air (either using Picasa or iPhoto) from my Canon PowerShot SD3500IS.
For the first time, my MacBook doesn't recognize the camera. I tried connecting to my old camera too and nothing. I tried Googling for the issue and nothing made sense.
    An help?

    Thanks for the suggestion.
Turns out the memory card had too many pictures on it. I cleared some out and everything worked. Sigh.

  • Unsupported Image Format - Canon Powershot S110

I am having issues after moving from a Macbook Air 13" to a Macbook Pro 13" Retina.  I have a Canon Powershot S110 that I use when
I travel.  I normally use a 1DS Mark II.  The S110 is a new camera on the market and was unsupported in Aperture until version 3.4...  When I updated the software on the Air to 3.4.2, I believe, the file format finally was recognized and life was good.  However, I have now transferred everything over to the Pro 13" Retina and I cannot get it to recognize the image format...  I have been to the Apple Store and worked for two hours with a Genius and nothing.  I have tried completely wiping the drive and reinstalling the most recent version of the OS and then only installing Aperture 3.4.3 and it still will not work...  I do not understand how it could be working on the Air and not on the Pro.  I would greatly appreciate any insight any of you may have.  Thanks!

Looks like there's an issue with attempting to install the latest RAW update on the recently-announced Macs.
You'll need to edit your /System/Library/CoreServices/SystemVersion.plist file to be able to install it, then change it back after the install is done. If you're comfortable with the Terminal you can use pico/vi/emacs to change the ProductBuildVersion from 12C2034 to 12C1999, do the install, then change it back.
If you're not comfortable with the Terminal, then navigate through your "System" folder on your hard drive to find the "SystemVersion.plist" file, copy it to your desktop, then make another copy of it (for backup purposes). Open it in TextEdit to change the ProductBuildVersion from 12C2034 to 12C1999. Copy the edited version back to the CoreServices folder, and you should be able to install the RAW updater.
After the install is finished, change the version number back by renaming the backup copy you made back to its original name and copy that back into the CoreServices folder.

  • Is the RAW format of Canon PowerShot G7X possibile in Lightroom ver. 5.7?

I use Lightroom 5 on my Acer PC. I have just bought a new camera, Canon PowerShot G7X, with Raw format possibility. I have also upgraded my Lightroom 5 to version 5.7. Still the application will not accept the RAW format pictures taken with this camera. Do I do something wrong, or does the latest version (5.7) not include the RAW format of Canon PowerShot G7X?

    Hi Jan,
Yes your PowerShot G7 X is supported with LR 5.7. Would suggest you to make sure your Lr is up-to-date(From Help>Updates).
In case you still get that issue, try the below suggestions and check.
Restore Lr preferences. Recover catalog, images after resetting preferences
Create new Lr catalog, import G7 X raw files and then check.
Let me know how it goes.
    Thanks

  • ARC rendering of DNG Files of photos shot with the new Canon Powershot G16 with "PSE V10 + CR 6.4.1" and with "PSE V13 + CR 8.6"

Because (for reasons which  are not relevant to my questions):  I can not reasonably migrate to the newest PSE Versions and I am more or less stuck for a couple of years to the use PSE V10. I am therefore looking for a relatively efficient solution to process/edit (a small percentage) of the RAW Files of my new/future camera(s) with the combination of PSE V10 and CR 6.4.1 (according to my understanding PSE V10 does not support CR 8.6 – PSE V10 does not even allow me to import RAW Files of new cameras into the PSE catalog).
I was hoping that the DNG Converter could be a good solution for me. I was intending
to convert the RAW Files of my new camera (and of my future new cameras) with an up-to-date version of the DNG converter,
import the .dng Files into PSE V10
and then look-at (and then for some few of them: edit) the DNG Files with the combination of PSE V10 and CR 6.4.1.
However, I got recently the impression, that the only Camera Profile of CR 6.4.1 that renders reasonably well the DNG Files of my new Canon Powershot G16 compact camera is the “Adobe Standard” Camera Profile.  In my tests with the combination of PSE V10 and ACR 6.4.1, the rendering of these DNG Files with other CR 6.4.1 Profiles (e.g. the “Camera Faithful” Profile) is (regarding colors and brightness/contrast) really ugly and (for a non-expert  like me) more or less unusable (while  the rendering of the same DNG File with the “Camera Faithfull” Profile of the combination of CR 8.6 + PSE V13 is quite reasonable).
May I please ask the following questions to somebody who is familiar with DNG and CR?
Do my observations (i.e. ugly rendering of Canon Powershot G16 photos with the “Camera Faithful Profile” of ACR 6.4.1) correspond to what DNG experts should and are expecting?
What is the probable reason of the ugly rendering of the “Camera Faithful” Profile of CR 6.4.1? Does the DNG converter not include a G16-specific “Camera Faithful” profile in the DNG file?
Or do you think, that I made something wrong and that I am the one to blame for the ugly rendering with the “Camera Faithful” Profile used by CR 6.4.1? If that’s the case: what did I probably do wrong and what can I do better?
Do you think that with the combination of PSE V10 and CR 6.4.1, I will have similar problems with the DNG conversion of Raw files of future cameras like the follow-on to the Nikon D5300 or D7100 (which I will probably like to buy once available)? Or do you think that the problems that I encountered with the Powershot G16 photos are unlikely to happen with most other new camwras?A lot of thanks in advance for your answers.
In case you might wish to look at the typical rendering of one of my DNG Files (created with Version 8.6.0.254 of the DNG converter)  of a Canon Powershot G16 .cr2 photo, I uploaded at  https://www.dropbox.com/l/T3LJyZWkBZpcKkNe8S8ufr
    following screenshots:
rendering with PSE V10 and CR 6.4.1 with the “Adobe Standard” Camera Profile” – looks OK
rendering with PSE V10 and CR 6.4.1 with the “Camera Faithful” Profile – looks ugly.
I did not create screenshots of the ugly rendering by CR 6.4.1 with other Camera Formats..
rendering with PSE V13 and CR 8.6 with the “Adobe Standard” Camera Profile – looks OK
rendering with PSE V13 and CR 8.6 with the “Camera Faithful” Profile – looks OK
screenshot of the unedited jpg. File created by the camera - looks OK

Thank You very much to all of You: in alphanumerical  sequence to 99jon, to R Kelly and to ssprengel. You spoiled me with the Information in your answers. Thank You very much for it.
Based on your answers I will first try the probably simplest solution: the download of ACR 6.7.
If that will not work for me, I will try/investigate  something else, that, if I interpret your suggestions correctly is the following: create with the combination of PSE 13 and ACR 8.6 profiles that I will try to use with the combination of PSE 10 and ACR 6.7 or 6.4. That is an idea that I was not at all aware of and that I owe to you.
All that is quite new to me, and I can therefore imagine that I will come back to you and ask for detailed suggestions or directions.
A Detail: it is on the same machine / same Windows-occurence that I have installed the combination of "PSE V10 + ACR 6.4" and the combination of "PSE V13 and ACR 8.6".
    1) The main reason why I can not use for my main real-life "productive" PSE Catalog the combination of "PSE V13 and ACR 8.6" is the lack of Support of/by the 32-bit mode "KODAK Digital ROC Professional" Filter/Plug-in in a PSE V13 Environment.  I need and will need that filter for a couple of years for the retouching/restoration of thousands  scanned Versions of my old slides that have a strong color-cast.  I am also using the 32-bit mode "Kodak Digital GEM Professional" Filter for a strong noise reduction in the scanned Versions of my old slides (but I can imagine, that I could find good 64-bit mode alternatives to the GEM Filter).
    2) In addition I have with the V12 and V13 PSE Editors,  for a lot of my photos files, problems with the wrong Dates/Times assigned by the V12/V13 PSE Editors to new file containing a new/edited version of my  Foto files.....
But these 2 previous items are other stories/problems  that I would like and shoud keep separate.
Thank You again for your wonderfull help.

  • Trouble importing photos to iPhoto 6.0.4 from Canon PowerShot S410

I have never really used iPhoto before, and decided to try it. I hooked up my camera properly, using the USB cable that came with it, and iPhoto said, "Ready to import 110 items." I gave the 'roll' a name and some comments, and hit 'import.' After a bit of a wait, I got an error saying, 'Unreadable Files: 110 The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)' and a window listing all of the photos currently on my camera.
I checked the camera model on the 'compatible models' list [ http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/cameras.html ], and it's there. The only support article I could find was for iPhoto 2 [ http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93275 ], and clearly didn't apply to my problem, because the files are definitely photos and there are over 28 GB available on my hard drive.
I can go back to using the other apps I've been using, but would like to try iPhoto, because it works so well with other apps on my new computer, such as iWork, etc. Any suggestions?

    Nena_nieve:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try using Image Capture, located in your Applications folder, to manually upload the photos to a folder on the Desktop. Then see if the files will import form there. If not then there's some format issue possibly.
Do you have any video clips in the camera that you took? Or any voice annotations that you made for the photos? They could have triggered the failure to import but shouldn't have.
See how the manual upload goes and report back. You do not need any driver for the camera. It's build into OS X.

  • Nikon Images, Noise issues in Photoshop only

I use Nikon cameras and shoot raw files processing them in ACR and then bringing them into Photoshop. I notice that after the images are processed and saved as jpegs. when I look at the final image in a Microsoft film strip browser, the noise which shows in Photoshop disappears in that viewer. In Photoshop I am viewing everything at 100% I cannot figure out how that happens and what is the true quality of the image. I am just wondering where I can see the true final quality of the image. I would rather not use any noise reduction on the images. I do not like the quality of the image after using that tool.
I also shoot with Canon equipment and I never have and noise issue. I am aware that Nikon has noise issues at higher iso's and when the image is underexposed but I am taking that into consideration when processing, I also process in light room and Nikon capture but in those products I know that they have some different algorythums to correct the noise.
Thanks for any comments or suggestions on this issue.

Photoshop is color managed and is using your monitor profile in an attempt at accurately portraying your image. Most image viewers are not color managed.

  • Canon Powershot sx50 video quality problems

I'm relatively new at working with video editing. I use Adobe Premiere Elements 9, and when I record with my Canon Powershot sx50 HS I get fuzz or fog when playing it on my computer. It's odd because when I put the video on my Samsung S4 and convert it into MP4 format the quality looks way better than on my computer. If I could get someone's email also I can hit up about general questions that would be awsome. I basically want to get the best quality out of the camera as possible. My lighting in my room is good so I don't understand why I get fog on my computer but not on my phone. As for my settings I use the DSLR-1080p DSLR-1080p24 then MPEG - Preset H.264 1920X1080i 30 which is Widescreen 16:9 Profile: High - Level: 4.0 - VBR,1 Pass Target Bitrate 20 Mbps Max Bitrate 21 Mbps Framerate 29.97 fps I'm wondering if my settings are wrong? What are the best Premiere Elements settings for a Cannon sx50?

I found a solution that works for me and since there are no other suggestions I'll pass it along in case others have this same problem.  What I ended up doing is installing CineForm and using it to convert AVCHD to HD.  It handles the 24p inside a 60i container issue and the converted files, when imported into PP CS4, look perfect.  The only drawback is that CineForm is not freeware but the price was more than worth the aggrevation it eliminated.

  • Canon PowerShot G11 won't mount on iMac, will mount on MacBookPro

We have a Canon PowerShot G11. It refuses to mount (either through iPhoto, Image Capture, or Disk Utility) when plugged into our iMac (iMac10,1) 3.06 Intel Core Duo. We plug the USBcable directly into the iMac. The iMac is running 10.6.5
We also have a MacBook Pro running 10.5.8 (2.4 Intel Core Duo, MacBookPro4,1).
Plug the camera into that computer and it brings up iPhoto automatically every time.
Plenty of disk space on both machines. Annoying! Any answers?

I've seen quite a few posts regarding Canons not mounting on the desktop - I have a Canon myself; I've decided to avoid the issue by simply using a USB card reader (or use the built-in reader if you Mac has one) - solves not only the problem, but saves the batteries.

I tried making the edits to the plist file as suggested in this topic, and can confirm that these do allow RAW files from the Canon G2 camera to be imported into Aperture. However, I am finding that the resulting default conversion is a fair bit darker than what Adobe CS RAW plug in does. Colors are reasonably accurate, but quite a bit darker. I realize that I could make further adjustments to lighten up the shadow areas, but this will likely add more noise in the shadows than would result if the RAW conversion were to be a bit brighter up front.
Does anyone have ANY idea what all the numbers in the plist represent? And which ones could be tweeked to get a better conversion that preserves more of the shadow details?

  • Canon Powershot S3 IS

Will the new model Canon (Canon Powershot S3 IS) work with Iphoto 6?
Not listed on the site. New Camera?
    G5; 2 IMACs and a PB   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Yes, it does. I know someone who is using one. As far as I know, the compatibility and recognition issues arise with RAW pictures because each manufacturer has its own format(s). Since the S3IS only takes JPEG pictures and is otherwise quite similar to the S2IS, it works just fine.

  • Canon PowerShot SD750 broken backlight

Hi! I have a Canon PowerShot SD750. Everything about the camera works fine, but when i turn the camera on you can see the shadows of the objects in the display screen but it doesn't light up. It seems as though the backlight is broken. Is that something that can be fixed? If so do you know how much that would cost? or is it a lost cause? Thanks!

    Hello,
I checked out the Canon website (http://www.canonusa.com) and looked up your camera model. On that page, I clicked Service and Support, which provided the option to search their knowledge base. I did a search on back light - one of the results was about the LCD not displaying images. Basically, the response to that issue is that camera service is required. There is no indication of cost to repair, but I'm guessing that it would be more economical to just live with the defect or to buy a new camera.
Here is a link to the service/support page for your camera model:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_sd_series/powershot_sd750#S...
Just search on "back light" and you'll find the info I found.
I wish I had better news!
