Canon Powershot TX1 clips to .Mac via iWeb??

Does anyone have experience with this camera? I am considering it as a smaller alternative (extra camera) to take when I travel light vs my HDR-HC1 HDV camcorder. Any feedback is appreciated - this would primarily be for my wife. The main thing I am concerned with (aside from overall if this is a good cam is how easily she can drag the clips over to iWeb to publish them for quick/easy viewing on our .Mac page. On our Sony Cybershot, the MPEG clips do not translate well to post through iWeb. Any other alternatives recommended in hybrid cameras to keep it simple for her to easily share clips (of good quality, preferably HD) Thanks in advance!

iWeb is irrelevant to this question.
The question is, can QuickTime play your movies.
You can import the footage in iMovie, edit them, and then export the movie to a format QT can handle.
The QuickTime and/or iMovie forums would be the best place to ask.

I like to buy this camera, so I download some sample HD videos.
This camara use "Apple openDML JPEG" AVI codec, but I can´t configure the finalcut sequence whit that codec.
I can open the videos whith QT, and no problem, but I can´t edit this videos in final cut.
I don´t like to convert the videos to another codec, because i lost a lot of time whith that.
    Can you help me?
Thnak you very much and sorry for my bad english

Log into another user account on your Mac, create a similar slideshow in iPhoto there and test to see if it stutters.
By fixes I'm referring to these three:
    FIX #1
    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder: User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
    Fix #2
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    Fix #3
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager (iPhoto 8 or earlier) and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button and select the library you want to add in the selection window..
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the
File ➙ Rebuild Library (iPhoto 8 or earlier)
menu option to rebuild the library.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Cannot import from Canon Powershot pro1

I've always imported my photos with iPhoto simply connecting my Canon Powershot Pro1 to the Mac with a USB cable.
About an year ago I started to have problems: I had to shut down the Mac, connect the camera and then start the Mac again. Connecting the camera to a "turned on" Mac didn't work: I could only see the thumbnails but after clicking "Import all" I got an error message.
Now, switching from iPhoto to Photos, this trick doesn't work anymore and there's no way to import the photos. When the camera is connected, the thumbnails appear successfully in Photo, but I'm unable to complete the import as the following error always occurs:

  • Updating .Mac website via Iweb

I have been creating a web site via Iweb. I plan on publishing it to my .Mac account in the next day or so. The site is of our newborn and I plan on updating it with photos often (once a week). I have been reading the chats and find that when I update the site it (iweb) will re-upload everything (thus causing me to go over the 1GB limit). Is there a quick fix or an easy workaround?
All I will be changing on the site (on a regular basis...for now) will be new photos. I will want to remove the old ones and replace with the newer ones.

Also be aware that iWeb resizes your photos, so it will take quite a while for you to hit 1GB. If my memory serves me correctly it resizes everything to a max of 800*600 pixels, creating files of >100kb (looking at my own files).
I have a couple of hundred photos on my site and I have used less than 60MB of my 1GB, loads of space left.
You could even add a new page each week

  • Trouble importing photos to iPhoto 6.0.4 from Canon PowerShot S410

I have never really used iPhoto before, and decided to try it. I hooked up my camera properly, using the USB cable that came with it, and iPhoto said, "Ready to import 110 items." I gave the 'roll' a name and some comments, and hit 'import.' After a bit of a wait, I got an error saying, 'Unreadable Files: 110 The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data)' and a window listing all of the photos currently on my camera.
I checked the camera model on the 'compatible models' list [ http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/cameras.html ], and it's there. The only support article I could find was for iPhoto 2 [ http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93275 ], and clearly didn't apply to my problem, because the files are definitely photos and there are over 28 GB available on my hard drive.
I can go back to using the other apps I've been using, but would like to try iPhoto, because it works so well with other apps on my new computer, such as iWork, etc. Any suggestions?

    Nena_nieve:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try using Image Capture, located in your Applications folder, to manually upload the photos to a folder on the Desktop. Then see if the files will import form there. If not then there's some format issue possibly.
Do you have any video clips in the camera that you took? Or any voice annotations that you made for the photos? They could have triggered the failure to import but shouldn't have.
See how the manual upload goes and report back. You do not need any driver for the camera. It's build into OS X.

  • Canon Powershot S3

Thinking of purchasing Canon Powershot S3 to be released soon. The specs for the camera state that it produces jpeg (exif 2.2) files. Can someone tell me, will this be functional with iPhote 6? Also the movies come in AVI - how do I get Quicktime to relate to that or is there a better way to watch that on a Mac? Would appreciate some help.

    Hi Kost,
i have the Canon S2 and it works just fine with iPhoto. That said, I use Image Capture to download my images and Movie files. The AVIs open in Quicktime just fine and iMovie imports them and converts them with no problem.
When iPhoto 5 first came out I really think it was programmed to import the smaller 30 sec video clips that cameras were taking at the time. Since then, digital cameras, at least my Canon S2 can take clips as large as your memory card can hold. The first time I tried to download my images and movie clips with my new camera, iPhoto stalled at the movie clips. I wasn't going to take any chances messing up my iPhoto Library so I started using Image Capture to download all my images and Movie clips. I actually like doing it this way a lot better. My movie clips are downloaded into my Movies folder where I then put them in a dated folder.
My photos are downloaded into my Pictures folder, where I then put them in a dated folder. I import the dated folder into iPhoto. I also keep all dated folders from photo downloads in the Pictures folder till I get enough Movie folders and Photo folders to fill a DVD. I burn them and then delete them from the hard drive.
This way I have the photos in iPhoto and I also have just the photos backed up to DVD.
The Movies I keep on the hard drive in their dated folders until I use all the clips for my iMovie projects for the Year. I then make sure they are all burned to DVD, then I delete those from my hard drive.
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
    Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.

  • Use Canon Powershot G6 with Photo Booth?

I have a brand new Mac Pro running OS 10.5.7 with photo booth, but no isight camera. I'd like to use my Canon Powershot G6 with Photo Booth, but when I plug in my camera, via USB cable, and launch Photo Booth, there is just a blank picture window.
I'd be very grateful for any suggestions of how to make this work (if possible) or where I might look for a solution.
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi,
In Many apps that can access cameras it is about the resolution the software that the app restricts the camera to, rather than the abilities of the camera.
You may find that some cameras such as those that connect by Firewire may produce a more pleasing picture rather than being at a different resolution.
There is not much difference in External USB cameras over the Internal one on those Macs that have Internal iSights.
iGlasses is cheap and works for a7 day trial before you have to commit yourself and can access some features and tweak the video from Web cams in various Apps

  • Syncing canon powershot videos to play on iPad

    Totally confused.
Took a canon powershot video. was able to download and play on itunes and iphoto via my macbook pro. I was even able to use quicktime player to convert for iphone. Yet cannot sync video for ipad. when I try to sync get message that MOV. file cannot be played on ipad.
how can I play video on mac laptop and iphone but not the ipad. hasn't it already been
converted from jpeg/avi file to mov. file which is what ipad should allow. If I'm missing anything pls help. thanks.

    thanks for your answer.
when I tried that I get the message "one or more videos were not converted because
they are already in the correct format". Also, someone from apple helped

  • Fundamental importing problems with Canon PowerShot

when i connect my camera, a Canon PowerShot SD300 [digital elph] to my new MacBook Pro and turn the camera on, it opens iPhoto [6.0.6] and asks if i would like to import photos. i click "import," and tell it not to import duplicates. it tells me the count remaining and says its importing. i can wait any length of time and the number never goes down.
it has sort of successfully imported photos in the past [hence the 'do not import previous' above], but it seems to skip some photos and also downloads the same movies [avi's] each time.
is this bizarre behavior common? thanks for any help!
    MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   iPhoto 6.0.6 (322)

    Dan,
There is a problem with iPhoto 6 not respecting the "do not import duplicates" when importing directly from cameras. It obeys better when importing from a folder already on your hard drive.
iPhoto can also balk at longer video clips. I can import shorter clips (under 1 minute) directly into iPhoto, but have had iPhoto crash with long (3 minutes or more) clips.
Here's how I import from my Canon. I place the card in a USB card reader. This mounts on the Desktop as an external drive. [Many cameras do this, but most Canon models do not.] When I plug the card reader into my USB hub, I ignore iPhoto's "ready to import" dialog. Instead, I do File > Import to Library. I navigate to my camera card on the desktop, where I can preview the photos and select only the ones I need to import. I import all the pictures first. When they are in my library, I go back and select the video clips, one at a time. It can take a few minutes to import one, and there is no progress indicator, so I have to wait patiently.
If iPhoto crashes on the video clips, I open Image Capture, choose "Download Some" and select one clip at a time to upload to my Desktop. Given enough time, the clips will import successfully. Once on the Desktop, iPhoto has not had any trouble importing them.
If you don't have a card reader, you can use Image Capture to import all the files from your camera. Upload to a folder on your Desktop, then import that folder to iPhoto and delete it when done. In Image Capture's Preferences is the setting for what happens when you connect your camera or card reader. You can leave it set to iPhoto, change it to Image Capture, or set it to Nothing.
If you have had to cancel an import, then there may be an extra folder inside your iPhoto Library folder. In the Finder look just inside Pictures/ iPhoto Library and see if there is a folder called "Import" (or "Importing"). If there is, drag it out to your Desktop and see if it contains photos that you need for your library. Make no other changes inside the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder, as changes made this way can damage your library. If there is no Import folder, then you are in good shape.
    Regards.

  • Can no longer play video from Canon PowerShot with QT Pro

Don't know what's changed. I have played these videos many times before. They were taken by my son who is active duty Navy overseas, so they are important to me. The "Movie Info" from QT says the format is: 8-bit Unsigned Integer, Mono, 11.024 kHz/MJPG, 320 x 240, Millions. QT "Movie Properties" list MVI_0025.mov, but the Audio Settings and Presentation choices are greyed out. The Video Trach is shown as MJPG as you would expect. I can't "save as" or "export" so re-encoding is out. I'm at a loss here. Why they played before and not now is beyond me. They were added to my Hard Drive via Iomega's Floppy plus 7-in-1 card reader. The actual video was taken with a Canon PowerShot A510 and recorded to a SanDisk 512MB SD Card which I copied to my hard drive through the card reader with no problems. My G4 runs great with no problems. These videos were added to two logins which both fail to play now. Sound is fine. Anyone have any ideas how this could have happened or what to do?

    QuickTimeKirk,
Fortunately I can boot to OS9.2. The problem is that the OS goes so far back in time that I'm not sure I could figure out where to install a codec that would work. And I'm afraid the bigger problem is, where would I download the right codec? (In OS9 that would be a QuickTime plug-in, right?) I tried Classic, using QuickTime 5.0.2. No good. I get the standard message "Some necessary QuickTime software is missing. It may be available on the QuickTime Web site." I guess when I saw MJPG I was really thinking MJPEG and couldn't se why it wouldn't work. I see now that these are very different codecs. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I did some digging and I believe the codec needed came with QuickTime 2.5. Also, if it makes any difference, I neglected to say that I use Flip4Mac WMV. I don't see how that would adversely effect a video file with a MJPG format but I thought I should mention it. Thanks for responding!

  • Canon Powershot A75 no longer recognised by iPhoto after 7.1.3 (364) update

We have been importing photos from our Canon Powershot A75 to our iMac G5 (now running Leopard 10.5.2) for some time.
This morning an auto update for iPhoto was applied, taking iPhoto to 7.1.3 (364).
Now iPhoto won't recognise our camera at all. I've tried different USB ports. Made sure it is in photo playback mode. No joy.
    Any suggestions?

You might try reapplying the Mac OS X 10.5.2 Combo Update.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Iv'e upgraded my iMac to 10.6.8 and now microsoft office 2004 and my canon powershot camera software will not work. any suggestions?

I just upgraded my iMac to 10.6.8. Now my Microsoft office applications,(word, excel, ppt) and my camera software to transfer picts from my camera will not launch. (Separate apps but all stopped working as soon as I upgraded from 10.5.8). The software for the Canon Powershot is Ver.37.2. Image browser 6.2 EOS utility 1.1.  Any help would be appreciated.
Also if you could tell me what happens to the individual jpegs that get imported through iPhoto, I would go back to using that instead of the Canon software. I want to be able to go into a folder and see all the jpegs and not have to rely on iPhoto's one enormous file. What happens if that iPhoto file gets corrupt? Thanks, Leesha

Actually, Microsoft Office 2004 works fine with Snow Lepoard OS 10.6.x. However, it does require Rosetta, Apple's app for Classic apps. In your upgrade from Lepoard 10.5.8, Rosetta may not have installed but you can manually install it with the instructions here.
On another note, when upgrading the OS, some anomalies get resolved by repairing disk permissions with Disk Utility in the Utilities folder.
One more note, there was an issue with Rosetta crashing with OS 10.6.8 in February 2012. Apple released a security update that fixed it. You can see if Software Update (launch from the Apple menu) shows it or manually download Security Update 2012-001 v1.1 and install it. Software Update will also show other applicable apps available for updating for your upgraded system.
Rosetta is no longer available with OS 10.7 Lion and beyond. Then you will need to upgrade MS Office 2011 for Mac.
