Canon printer and Snow Leopard

I recently upgraded to Snow Leopard and have now spent up to 8 hours trying to get my Canon MX 340 working again.  I checked the printer log and it said that the printmanagerfailed, I found a topic here about the same problem and it stated to go into system preferences and right click the canon printer and to select reset printing system.   Well I did that and it wiped out all my printers so needless to say that didn't work. Now I can't get it setup at all.  I have reloaded all of the drivers and software and it isn't even showing up in my system preferences so I can't add it.  I am pulling my hair out and really really need some help.  HELP!

Why would I go to HP printer support, it is a canon printer and yes I did download Canon's driver, what a joke.  I have found some information on this forum but so far no good.  At least I now have it showing up in systems preferences but still not working.  I wished I had checked all this b4 upgrading since I may not have done it.  I have downloaded the Apple supplied driver so if anyone out there knows what to do now I still need help.

  • Canon MP510 All in one printer and Snow Leopard problem...

    Hiya,
After looking at almost all the chat out there nothing has worked.
I have deleted the MP510 printer from my system prefs and ever since then I get the message "Cannot communicate with scanner. Cable may be disconnected or scanner may be turned off. Check status. Scanner driver will be closed. 155.0.0". I cannot add the printer back into the list as it simply does not exist. Even with a new USB cable!
I have installed all the latest Canon software and upgrades: Easy-PhotoPrint EX_321; MP Navigator 304; PrinterDriverMP510102600 & ScanGear MP510 12131 to no avail, even after multiple restarts.
Can anyone help this newbie connect to the Canon printer please?

Hello and welcome to Apple Discussions.
When you select to add the printer, if it does not appear in the Default view of the Add Printer browser then there could be a problem with the MP510, especially since you have already tried a new USB cable.
Some additional things that you can try
    - turning the MP510 off for several seconds and then back on again
    - trying a different USB port on the Mac
    - resetting the printing system (described below) and trying to add the MP510 again
    - with the MP510 connected to the USB port, opening System Profiler and checking the Hardware > USB section
If none of the above helps then please reply...

*How to Reset the Printing System*
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
    3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse (or right click if supported).
    4. Click "Reset printing system ..."
    5. Restart your Mac
This will remove your print queues but not your printer drivers. So you will only need to add your printer queues again.

  • Canon iP5200 and Snow Leopard - Color Management

I was wondering if anyone knows how to completely disable color management when printing using Photoshop CS4 and a Canon iP5200 with the very latest driver 10.26.0.0?
I've seen this link on the Apple website which to me implies that if I set Photoshop CS4 to "No Color Management" and select "Colorsync" under "Color Matching" in the print driver then all color management is switched off, including that of the printer:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.6/en/8641.html
This is also what Canon support told me, but is this correct, I'm somehow not convinced? The latest print driver with Snow Leopard has no specific option to turn off color management in the print driver.

What you should do is select Color Matching and set this to 'Canon Color Matching'. This will then let the printer control the colour management.
Note that the colour profiles for the Canon printers are based on the paper stocks used. And the papers that have the largest gamut are the photo papers. So, after setting the Canon Color Matching, open the Quality & Media menu and select the appropriate paper you are using and the Print Quality to High. But don't expect good output if you are using plain paper. Only photo papers should be used with the photo modes.

  • Canon MP600 and Snow Leopard

Hi, does anyone know if the MP600 works with snow leopard? Canon says it's compatible but their drivers are not working at all. Are there drivers available even??? Thanks

I'm printing just fine to an MP600, though I have it connected to an older Leopard machine and am printing from the SL machine wirelessly. I lose some functions that way, and can't get a decent photo print unless I do it from the Leopard machine (not sure exactly why), but for everyday printing it works great.
One issue you might be running into is that there are two different drivers for the MP600... you want the CUPS printer driver, not the other one.

  • Shared printing and snow leopard

I can't get my 2 mac books to print on the shared hp laserjet 1320 that is connected to my iMac. One mac book is running snow leopard and the other is running leopard. The iMac is running snow leopard. They printed fine before the upgrade to snow leopard. I have checked shared printer on all computers. The iMAc says everyone can print on the shared window. The firewall is turned off. The error message says authentication required. When I click on resume it asks for a user name and password. I have tried to add a user to the iMAc and then use that on the mac book but that does not work either. I talked to someone from HP today who referred me to this forum for help. Any ideas?

Bonjour is the protocol used by all recent versions of OS X to see shared printers. I don't have 10.4 but I do have a PowerMac G5 running 10.5.8 and it can see the shared printer on my MacBook Pro running 10.10.1. So I wonder if there is something about Bonjour in 10.4 or if you have some other network issue?
From the PowerBook, are you able to see and connect to a shared folder on the iMac?

  • LexMark Printer and Snow Leopard

IMac with Mac OSX (10.5) was working well with my Lexmark all in one Printer (Prevail Pro 705).  I updated operating system to Snow Leopard and now cannot print. Tried to reinstall the printer software and got message indicating a newer version already exists on the hard drive. Then went to LexMark and downloaded latest driver and firmware update... still no luck. the error message says I need to download appropriate software....

To uninstall the Lexmark software, please click on the link UNINSTALL.Then remove the remaining files. Just click on the link on how to remove thefiles.
Then download the software again for the Lexmark Pro705 for MAC 10.6 at this link: http://bit.ly/zlfV4z
    Hope this helps.

  • Canon 500D and Snow Leopard 10.6.2

After I upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.2 my Digital Camera Canon500D is not detected anymore...although i removed its driver and installed it again ..no improvements still not detected either in Finder or with canon utilities or Iphoto or aperture.
    Any suggestions.

I'm not familiar with your model (in fact, I couldn't find a 500D on the Canon support site), but I have a Canon SX1 IS and had a minor problem with the Canon software no longer being compatible with Snow Leopard. Canon has since updated that software (Digital Photo Professional). Or what type of software are you referring to - I'm not aware of having to install any driver. If you plug it into the USB port, it should just show on your desktop. Another possibility is to simply use a card reader for now with your USB port - that is how I transfer all the images. As soon as you plug that in, you should get the reader's icon on your desktop and you can copy/transfer/download the images from there.

  • Brother QL-500 P-Touch Printer and Snow Leopard

I have had this label printer for a couple of years. It has worked well, but I have had a lot of trouble with it since installing Snow Leopard.
I eventually got it working but the print program supplied by Brother P-Touch Editor is incredibly slow to load. It does eventually work. I am using version 5.0.013, which is the latest update on the Brother site.
I looked at the Get Info, and there is an option to open under Rosetta, but this crashes the program.
    Any ideas?

If you check the Brother website, you will see two new driver/editor packages for Snow Leopard. The first is for versions up to 10.5 and the second is for 10.6. However, if you check the filename, you will see that both are the same file, same file size and same issue date. It seems that the folks at Brother have loaded the same fileset for both versions.... unfortunately, the version they loaded is for Snow Leopard 10.5 which is of no use to those of us with the later versions.

  • Oki c9800PS printer and Snow Leopard problems printing

I have an OKI c9800PS printer and I must get it working urgently. Was working fine before installing Snow Leopard 10.6. Neither Apple nor OKI have been able to help so far. Does anyone have a solution? I keep getting an error message that says 'software was not installed correctly. Uninstall and reinstall.' I have done this more than six times so far.

After reading another post I tried the same suggestion but changing the name for my own printer and it works with Snow Leopard. (The original post of this solution is at
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2141179&tstart=0 - Matt's answer)
    SOLUTION:
The Oki installer has set permissions incorrectly.
    Open the Terminal application (/Applications/Utilities).
Copy and paste the following command into a Terminal window:
    sudo chown -R root:admin /Library/Printers/Oki/
Then hit the Return or Enter key. Enter your administrator's password at the prompt.
NOTE: Make sure the printer name, in my case 'Oki', is exactly the same spelling and case. When I put in OKI it didn't work. I had to put in 'Oki' as in my Printers folder.

  • Wireless print server DPR-1260/Canon i9900 and Snow Leopard 10.6.1

    Hello,
I have recently got my Mac Book Pro and have the latest system (10.6.1) and cannot print with a wireless print server. I have a Dlink DPR-1260, and a Canon i9900 printer. I have done everything and I still cannot print. Please I need help!!!!
    Susan

Hello Susan and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Unfortunately the Canon Mac drivers have never worked correctly with the wireless print servers. I tested a Dlink model some years ago and while the Windows drivers for the same model would work fine, the Mac driver would always fail.
The only solution was to use the Gutenprint driver suite for Mac OS X. This software provided drivers for many brands of printers including Canon, and got our A3 inkjet working - albeit it wasn't always available as it seemed to never wake from sleep mode.
Checking the Gutenprint drivers included with 10.6, which are added when you do a custom install or by running the Optional Installer package within the 10.6 DVD, the i9900 is not listed as a supported model. It appears that only the Canon version of the i9900 driver is included with 10.6.
So, you have some decisions to make...
    1. Don't use wireless and just have the i9900 plugged in directly to the Mac via USB
    2. Replace the Dlink with an Airport Express. Due to the way in which Apple has made their Airport units, they will let you use the Canon driver.
    3. Keep the Dlink and purchase an alternate driver software package called Printfab. If you are printing mostly graphics on the i9900 then this driver suite can provide you with more colour control than the Canon driver. And it will work with the Dlink like the Gutenprint drivers do.
    Hope this helps

  • Canon MP560 and Snow Leopard

Hello... today I set up a new Canon MP560 multifunctional printer/scanner. I didn't use the set up disk, but downloaded all the latest drivers from the Canon Support site. I've also installed the "Canon Drivers" package from Software Update. The good news is that setting it up as a wireless printer was very straightforward. You can join the network from the control panel on the printer itself, entering the WPA key, and then it appears in Print & Fax - first as "Bonjour Scanner" and secondly, after a while, as a "Canon IJ Network" printer when you click "more printers". However, no matter what I do, I can't get Image Capture or the Canon scanner software to recognise it as an available scanner. However - and this is the bizarre bit - if I use File --> Import --> Canon MP560 in Photoshop Elements 8, I can scan straight into Photoshop TWAIN import. And if I scan FROM the control panel on the MP560, I can send the scan to the Mac as an image or as a PDF. So "network scanning" clearly is POSSIBLE over the WiFi network, just not using Image Capture, and the Print & Fax control panel is not seeing it as connected either (when you click the "Open Scanner" button in the control panel, it pops up a big box with "No scanner available" in the middle...)
Anyone got one of these working properly in Image Capture and able to tell me what to do?
    best regards,
    Matt

    Hello Matt,
I don't have access to my MP980 which is on wireless to check this, but if you use Preview (which uses Image Capture) and select File > Import from Scanner, do you see 'Include Network Devices'. I seem to remember having to use this menu to scan from the MP via network.
Also, with regards to the Print & Fax > Open Scanner operation, I think you need to install the MP Navigator EX 3.0 Opener application to resolve this symptom. You can download this app from here.

  • IMac 3.06 GHz Intel cannot print in Snow Leopard in Text Edit or CS4

iMac/3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo/OSX.6/4gigRAM/1TerabyteHD/CS4 Design Premium/ cheap HP Deskjet D1520 Printer.
I have installed the HP Drivers from the original SnowLeopard install of the iMac, yesterday.
I have downloaded and installed from Apple the HP Drivers for Snow Leopard.
I have downloaded and installed from Apple the HP Drivers for Leopard.
    I have rebooted endlessly.
No drivers appear in printer set-up except for my Epson Perfection 1260 Photo Scanner.
Using HP Printer Utility does not recognize any print drivers I have installed in the past two days.
I tried using CUPS from the free source group and this printer is not supported in their list.
My printer worked perfectly in Leopard for printing receipts and memos.
    Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    John R

Now it's been two weeks since I brought home a 27" iMac and realized that the iMac will not SEE my HP D1520 Deskjet printer any longer.
HP emphatically states that their website driver ffor my printer and for Snow Leopard works in their labs.
Apple emphatically states that the required driver for my HP printer is within the Snow Leopard installer.
And neither vendor will tell me why after repeated installs and uninstalls, and reboots, and permission/disk repair, changing USB cables out, WHY SNOW LEOPARD WILL NOT SEE MY PRINTER, but clearly sees my scanner and an Acrobat driver.
I had another unfortunate soul who's printer is unrecognizable by Snow Leopard to tell me they bought a new printer, and Snow Leopard saw the brand new printer. That's amazing, as my printer is less than a year old. So I guess I have to gamble and buy a new printer because apple upgrades the system and I can't install Leopard which worked perfectly with my printer.
Apple, you let me down, this time.

  • Why won't Lexmark T430 printer with Snow Leopard?

Lexmark T430 will not printer with Snow Leopard. Error Message: “The printer software was installed incorrectly. Please reinstall the printer’s software or contact the manufacturer for assistance.”
The printer is connected via Ethernet from an iMac; I have an airport wireless network. Oddly, I can print wirelessly from my MacBook Pro, but not from my desktop iMac. Both computers were upgraded to Snow Leopard at the same time, but only the iMac refuses to print.
    Tried:
    -Reset printing system
-Downloaded Lexmark drivers and reinstalled them
-Connected printer directly to iMac instead of through the Ethernet switch
    -Repaired disk permissions
When ‘adding printer’ the Lexmark is recognized and configured, but it only results in the same tired error message.
    Suggestions will be appreciated.

    Hi,
A follow up on my previous report.
I installed 10.6 on an external USB drive and booted my iMac from there. Result: was able to print successfully to the T430, both via Ethernet and via USB cables. Previously, I also tried to print from the iMac (booted from the internal drive) via USB and that failed; although, as I said, I was able to print to a Canon printer. I conclude that there must be some conflict between the Lexmark drivers and something on my internal iMac hard drive.

  • Epson Wifi Printers and Snow Leopard

Just curious - Has anyone gotten one of the newer Epson Wifi printers (like and all in one) - to work with Snow Leopard? Something like the Epson Artisan 800?
    Thanks

My Artisan 800 works fine wirelessly with my Macbook and wired with my iMac. I did have to fiddle with deleting/adding printer after Snow Leopard install and then there was an automatic Epson Printer Update download from Software Update. Not sure which one did the trick, but it's working.

  • Epson C88 Won't Print with Snow Leopard

C88 won't print using Snow Leopard. Downloaded driver from Epson doesn't help.????

Like you, I'm working with an Epson C-88+. Happy with this situation, would not be exactly accurate. I have tried some different approaches, including the ones from John and Kappy. They would work just fine for about 3 days, then fail. I even went back to the Snow Leopard Install DVD/ Optional Installs/ Options.MPKG/ Printer Support and made a choice. I then went to Disk First Aid and everything was fine. Today, I went to print 1 envelope, total dismal failure. I then downloaded the EPSON Printer Drivers 2.1, I proceeded to install the drivers. Did anybody notice, this was an Apple License, not an EPSON License? Therefore, there are no assurances, that these print drivers are in fact, EPSON. Therefore, AppleCare should be required to support these Print Drivers as Apple Licensed Products. But equally so, we as 'dumb endusers' must try to work with AppleCare to solve this issue. To "pete.purvis" John and Kappy, sorry, you guys have proven yourselves to be out of the "dumb endusers group, I just want to say, THANK YOU!
