Canon Pro 9000 good printer but garbage with Mac

I have a canon 9000 pro printer, the interface for this printer with mac is just garbage.  No nice gui, I have to connect to http://127.0.0.1:631/.  Is there a way of setting the printer settings from the file/print options from the applications ?
It is looking like I will have to keep a windows machine for printing photos etc where I want to easily change the printer settings.  Is there a way around this??
If not what is a good A3 photo printer similar in resolution and quality to the canon that actually allows the user to use the printers full fucntionality from connected to a mac??

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
The iMac PPC can't run 10.6.8.  So either you don't have 10.6.8, or you don't have an iMac PPC.  PowerPC is the nomenclature for all CPUs used on iMacs from 1998 through 2005.  First identify your operating system, then you can properly identify what driver you need to use.  My FAQ* here on printers may be of use*:
http://www.macmaps.com/printersx.html
Go to Apple menu (the blue Apple logo in the upper left) and click on About This Mac to determine what operating system you are running, and under More Info what iMac CPU you are using.  No need to repost.  Once you've properly identified your machine and operating system, I can ask a moderator to move your thread.

  • IMAC + PS CS + CANON PRO 9000 = redish print

I run into situations like that before with different versions of PS on windows machines. What happened to me twice is that the printer performed color corrections and it was not always easy to disable that. I looked around everywhere in the printer menue and didn't see anything.
    -My monitor is calibrated
-My B&W prints are perfect (so I assume it has to do with some color correction)
-latest driver for the PRO 9000 installed
    -I use the correct profile
    -Original canon paper plus ink
    Help is greatly appreciated!

Have been able to contact Canon? Their usually fairly prompt in replying via support email. Let us know how you make out. I am considering purchasing a pixma pro 9000 and I am running Mountain Lion as well.
    Thanks,

  • Printing proofs w/ Canon Pro 9000 MarkII

I'm relatively new to InDesign, having done mostly web design up until recently.  I've designed a brochure and want to print out a proof using a Canon Pro 9000 MarkII printer to get an accurate view of the colors.  Sadly, I can't figure out how to turn off color management on the printer and have searched for the better part of a day to figure this out.  Does anyone have any ideas of how to do this or how to effectively allow InDesign to perform all the color management.  Thank you!

Take a look at http://forums.adobe.com/message/3843338#3843338 and see if you can convince toyboy to either tell you privately waht he knows, or go ahead and make it public. It's not like anyone really knows who he is.

You didn't mention any color calibration being done on your monitor.  This is an essential part of any color-correct workflow.  What are you using to calibrate your monitor (and your printer)?
Print profiles (for soft-proofing as well as printing) are for specific combinations of paper & printer.  The nine you have are each, most likely, for a common paper (perhaps mfr'd by Canon) to be used with your printer.
I don't know what you mean when you say "I choose a high standard print option".
Have you read the User Manual chapter on printing?

There is also a good appendix on calibration:

  • Printing to a Canon pro 9000 mark ii from creative cloud products

I am using Windows 8 and trying to print to a Canon pro 9000 Mk ii printer from Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. I am a register creative cloud user and have the latest drivers for the printer. I am using official inks and Canon papers. I just cannot get colours to print properly, the colours are too dark with a blue cast I recently changed to this printer from an old Epson 1290 that had good colour reproduction (for its age and that it was just a two cartridge system). At first I thought it was a problem with the printer, but after printing with several other programs I soon realised that this is an adobe problem exclusively!
Has anyone got a clue to what I am doing wrong or if there is a way of getting the adobe products to play nicely with the printer?
    Thank you in advance,
    Jeremy

Wildpaintings for color management issues you may want to consider posting your inquiry in the forum specific to the software you are facing difficulties with.  Most likely you will either need to disable printer color management in the Adobe applications, if you wish to use the Canon Pro's color management, or disable the Canon Pro's color management.
The specifics on how to do this though is going to vary by application.  I would recommend posting your inquiries to the following forums:

  • Resolved Color Correction issue with MAC OS X and Canon pro 9000

Problem: Unable to set the Color Correction option to NONE. I have looked all over the net and it seems that there are lots of people with this problem. After months and months of battling with this issue I have finally come up with the answer. Its all down to the fact that MAC OS X comes with a pre installed driver for the Canon Pixma Pro 9000. To cut a long story short this driver needs to be deleted from your system files before you update your driver, which you need to download from the canon website. I downloaded version 4.8.6. The new driver does not seem to work with the default driver still on the comp. After following directions below you should finally be able to get your Color Correction option on your driver working.
First things first... go to the following location and delete the canon pro 9000 driver.
    Location: /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources
    File Name: CanonIJPro900series.ppd.gz
(make a backup of this file if you wish )
Once you have deleted the driver you need to restart your mac.
After rebooting install the new Canon Pro 9000 driver. I suggest installing version 4.8.6(this one worked for me)
Reboot Mac again just for good measure then do a test print and you should now be able to set COLOR CORRECTION to NONE.
I know there are a lot of people out there having the same problem so if you are reading this please pass the solution on to others.

    Hi Japamac,
Indeed a new cable just bought solved this problem.
Still wandering why my MacbookPro was able to print and my PowerMac not, maybe another driver issue?
    Thank's anyway for your reply.

  • CANNOT PRINT FROM MACBOOK PRO TO CANON PRO 9000

Hi, this is my first post here. i expect this has been asked before, but here goes. Yesterday i tried to connect my MACbook pro to my CANON pro 9000.I have tried everything i can think of
    without success.
I have downloaded print drives from CANON,still does not print.
i have uninstalled the printer and added it again, still does not print. In console log i just keep getting filter error, coming up.
I am completely at a loss now, i am also new to MAC'S i have only had it for two months, so still learning.
therefor, i don't know if i am doing something wrong,or if there is a fault somewhere. The printer itself works fine with a PC.
Any help with this would be much appreciated,
    thank you.

  • Print quality on OS X 10.6 + Illustrator CS5 + Canon Pro 9000 MKII

    Hi!
Printing from Illustrator on iMac on our Canon Pro 9000 MKII produces ugly low resolution jagged edges on curved shapes. Same file printed on the same printer from Illustrator on Windows results in (almost) perfectly smooth edges. I understand that this has something to do with the fact that Pro 9000 II not beeing a Postscript printer. Are there any solutions to this problem, so I can print smooth curves direct from Illustrator on Mac? I don't want to have to go through any extra steps every time I print, like saving to PDF.
    Thanks!

  • Hp Officejet Pro 8500 will print but not anything with black ink. It keeps aligning itself.

My Hp Officejet Pro 8500 will print but not anything with black ink - i have checked the black ink cartridge and it is full. Whenever i print anything in colour (only option) the printer goes into an alignment/maintenace loop that lasts for a long time and does not fix the problem. What should I do?

Clean your printerhesd 4-5 times until the black fully restores.  I am on my third complete cleaning and have gone from 0% black to approx. 60-70%.  So, it works just takes time.

  • I have a problem connecting  a canon Pro-100 injet printer to my iMac oS Mavericks.

I have purchased a Canon Pro-100 inkjet printer which I am trying to connect to my printer. The software on the disc was not compatible with OS Mavericks so Canon sent me the updated software. Still won't work. I get an air message which I have sent to Canon. They say it is an Apple problem which has occurred a lot recently. Aplle online chat support could not help. Has anyone else had this problem. I've got an expensive printer I can't use.

I know I have to give up on the printer and scanner- but I am going to try to find something to keep my tablet going for awhile.
Are you actually reading the responses that people are giving you?
    1. Your printer will work with Gutenprint support, possibly will work with 10.9 drivers.
    2. Epson has a scanner Yosemite driver for your scanner.
    3. And Wacom has a driver for your tablet.
You have no reason to be that miserable, all things considered.

  • My HP officejet pro 8600 will print but won't scan wirelessly

My officejet pro 8600 will print and scan with a usb connection. It will also PRINT when connected wirelessly but it doesn't  SCAN wirelessly. Running OS X Yosimit 10.10.2. thanks  John

    Thanks John!
I'm still curious as well, do you get that same error regardless of initiating the scan from the printer or the software?
At this point, I will suggest that you try resetting your printing system (don't re-add the printer just yet) and then perform a verify/repair of your disk permissions. Once those complete, restart your Mac and then add the printer back to the queue.
Try scanning again via the HP software and then the Apple software. Please also ensure you try initiating the scan both from the printer as well as the software and let me know if there is any difference, thanks

  • OJ Pro 8000 A809n - Printer comes on with lights indicating paper jam

OJ Pro 8000 A809n - Printer comes on with CONTINUE and POWER lights flashing. I press CONTINUE and it feeds a sheet but top of sheet passes thru the print area and stops halfway down the sheet. I press CONTINUE again and it ejects the sheet but the lights flash again. I've looked all over for a tiny piece of paper jammed somewhere, including duplexer, and don't see any - even used flashlight. Have done a power reset several times and even reseated the printheads. Where are the paper sensors located on this beast? Also, any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Printer had a broken part. Part location: Open top cover and you will see 8 white rollers. Look to the left of these rollers and you'll see a white gear. To the left of the white gear you'll see a black piece of plastic with a slot in it. This black piece also has an arm sticking out to its left. (This arm rides in a slot on a white collar.) At the end of the black piece's arm there should be a piece of it pointing right up at you. This piece of the end of the arm was broken off. I fished it out from the bottom of the printer and carefully super glued it back on, making sure I didn't glue it to the white collar. Printer is now working fine.  It may not last for long, but right now it's OK.
