Canon Pro9000 Mark II prints dark color tones muddy on gloss paper

Boss accidentally bought gloss print paper, but I figured that might work out for our art renderings. However the ink bleeds... strangely, only on dark color tones. Image is below. It's a Canon Pro9000 Mark II.  It seems to be dark tones that bleed only. The light gray is perfect, and even a well-saturated yellow-orange looks decent. It doesn't appear to be the saturation or amount of ink that is the problem, but the darkness of the color. Is it the printer, the paper, or the ink? Is there a solution?

It really doesn't matter if you don't have the proper profile for the paper.  Do you?  If not you really can't use that paper at all.  You might try to see if another profile will work but that is mostly fool's play.  The correct profile is mandatory. Most good paper suppliers provide the correct ICC profiles for their paper.  Canon, Red River, Moab, Artic, etc.

  • My Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark 2 printer and red cast to prints

My Canon Pro9000 Mark 2 prints with a severe red cast on all prints. It has worked great for 3 years prior on my Mac. Just updated and installed Mavericks (OS 10) and believe that to be the culprit. Already checked ink tanks, ran printer head tests, cleaned and deep cleaned, and so forth. Does any Mac user (or other) know of a fix for this?

It may be a little different with the 9000 as it is several models back by now.  But what I explained should be close.

  • PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II print issue with Mac

I am having issues printing photos.  The picture comes out really dark, and the color is not right.  I am using the latest version of Mac.  How can I fix this issue?

    Hi droidus,
iPhoto is good for basic printing, but it offers very little in the way of color correction beyond the basic print quality settings.  If you are printing professionally with the Pro9000 Mark II I would recommend using a program that givse you more control over how the picture comes out such as Photoshop.

  • Canon Pro9000 no longer prints tabloid on Snow Leopard

Just got new 2 new iMacs w/ Snow Leopard. My partner installed software and latest drives for Canon Pro9000 on his computer. Now, when I'm on my computer and in InDesign CS5 and I try to print a tabloid size paper. However, the Indesign file prints the wrong orientation (landscape instead of portrait).
I've tried changing the Page Setup and also within the InDesign print dialog. No matter what, the file prints incorrectly.
Also, my partner tries to print a #10 envelope on my computer (Canon iP4500), the orientation is also incorrect on that.
Any thoughts on this? Printing 8.5 x 11 on either computer is not a problem. It's just when the orientation must be changed that we run into trouble.

You mention that the Pro9000 is connected to the other iMac and that when you print from ID CS5 you get the orientation issue. If you print from ID CS5 on that iMac, or if you connect the Pro9000 directly to your iMac, does the symptom still exist?
Yes, it also appears that it has to do with InDesign. I've been able to print out PDFs to my partner's printer on tabloid paper w/o a problem. My partner can print out the correct orientation from his computer to his printer.
Also, in reverse, it sounds like when the other iMac attempts to print to the iP4500 connected to your iMac the orientation issue exists. But if you print the #10 ENV, is the orientation okay?
Yes, if I print a #10 env to my printer from my computer, it is okay.
Just trying to determine if the symptom is only present when printing to the shared printer - not the direct printer.
Yes, it looks as if when the printer is shared and using InDesign CS5.

  • HP Photosmart premium not printing correct colors or contrast on photo paper.

My HP Photosmart Premium does not print correct colors or contrast level on photographs using photo paper.  This happens with using most any application and setting the paper type to one of the photo papers...  By using MS PhotoAlbum and selecting the photo tray then forcing "regular paper", I can get a somewhat decent print (this trick only works with MS PhotoAlbum).  When I setup to any of the "photo paper" types, I do not get correct colors or contrast levels (even if the print preview looks good).
I have the same issue with 8.5 x 11 inch photopaper.  Unless I select "regular paper" as the paper type, I get incorrect color and contrast (even if the preview looks good).  The ICC "Color Profiles" look to be OK (at least the titles are correct).
    Anyone have any ideas?

Try the troubleshooting steps in this page.  My bet would be the Photo cartridge (the black with the bow tie symbol) is out of ink.  This is only used when photo paper is selected, for plain paper printing the regular black cartridge is used.

  • Photoshop can't print to Canon Pro9000 Mark II - ICC profile issue

I'm using Photoshop CS with OS 10.6.2. I have the latest Canon driver, 10.30.3.0, and the latest ICC profile set for Canon from the Apple driver site. As I begin the print dialogue everything seems fine. Photoshop is controlling color management, and I select the Canon paper/quality ICC profile. After I click print, it sends the print job and I get the following error: Could not print "test.jpg" because the ICC profile is no longer installed.
I can load the same image into Photoshop Elements 6 and everything works fine, except I have the familiar Canon magenta cast syndrome I still need to work through.
Any ideas on the "no longer installed" error?
    Thanks!

The Canon ICC profiles for the respective paper stocks are stored in /Libary/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter/Resources/ICCProfiles. You should have one labelled "Pro9000IIseries.canonicc". I wonder if this profile may have been damaged with the recent 10.30.3 update, assuming that you had the previous driver installed.
FYI - I found that running the update via Software Update did not correctly update the installed Canon drivers. Even deleting the queue and re-adding still showed the previous 10.26 driver. I found that I had to download the v2.3 Canon update and run it manually. Only then did the installed queues show the v10.30 update. Maybe you need to try the same?
One way you could check if the profile is okay outside of PS is to print the image from Preview and via the Canon menus, set Color Matching to ColorSync and then select the profile you selected in PS. If you get a similar error then you know that it is a driver issue rather than being related to the application.
Note that regarding PSE6, Adobe previously acknowledged that there was an issue with double color management, ie both PSE6 and the printer was controlling the color output. Adobe's suggestion at the time was to disable color management in PSE6 and let the printer manage the color.

  • Problems printing with PSE12 and Canon Pro9000 MII

There seems to be a problem with PSE 12 and the print function.  Using my Canon Pro9000-Mark II the size is off.  Set to 8 x 10 photo paper in either landscape or portrait, PSE will print it to what looks like a 16 by 20 print, even though all setting are for an 8 x 10.  Another problem is that even though the 9000 is set as my default printer, PSE always returns to my Epson 1400.
To further complicate this matter, if I use the Automation tool and select Canon Print Studio Pro, the 9000 prints perfectly with PSE12.
    Can anyone offer any suggestions?.

Usually posted problems with the Pro9000 are poor colour matching ones, I don't recall a sizing problem before.
Have you checked all the places where size may be set, both in the PSE Print Dialogs (check paper size and print size, and under more options 'custom print size) and in the standard printer driver ?
Out of interest why would you NOT want to use Canon Print Studio Pro plug-in ? I thought this was Canon's recommended printing work flow.

  • Photoshop CS - Canon Pro9000 ICC issue

I'm using Photoshop CS with Apple OS 10.6.2 on a 24' iMac. I am trying to print to a Canon pro9000 Mark II.
I have the latest Canon driver, 10.30.3.0, and the latest ICC profile set for Canon from the Apple driver site. As I begin the print dialogue everything seems fine. Photoshop is controlling color management, and I select the Canon paper/quality ICC profile. After I click print, it sends the print job and I get the following error: "Could not print "test.jpg" because the ICC profile is no longer installed."
The Photoshop issue has been consistent. I used the standard drivers and profiles that came on the Canon disk; then I ran Software Update for the driver; then I downloaded the complete 10.30.3.0 ICC set from Apple. Each time I get this same error message. It occurs immediately AFTER Photoshop says the file is sent to the printer.
It doesn't appear to be the printer alone, since I can successfully print from Photoshop Elements, Apple Preview, and using the Canon "Easy Print Pro" plugins within Photoshop.  I can even print through Photoshop Print Preview, but I can't control color there.
Any ideas around what happens to the ICC files in the standard Photoshop CS print dialogue?
    Thanks.

I gave that Canon rep the exact same rebuttal - also quoted from information that you had talked about last weekend and in lock step he simply embraced the Canon company line over and over.  I asked if they had printed with Photoshop, to see where their code is generating an error and the illogic notion that a missing profile would be the responsibility of Adobe.  He wouldn't even entertain the concept; walked me through a plug and play feature of my Pixma printer to show that it is printing just fine - never mind that my picture came out looking like a washed out, colorless of image that had none of the characteristics of the picture in my monitor generated in Elements 9.
I asked him 'didn't printer drivers come from the manufacturers themselves?'  "Nope, they all come from Adobe."
So just complete and total BS.  Nowhere to turn now.  Without those ICC printer profiles, color management is just an esoteric concept that exists in the minds of Canon CSA reps.
Canons' 1 million pixel capability might as well be 1 trillion for all the good it does.
Judging from the threads out there, I'd bet that Canon has boatloads of other complaints re this profile issue.

  • Printing: ICC Color Managed -vs- Driver Managed

    Hi,
    I have a Dell U2410 monitor calibrated with a Datacolor Spyder4Express.
I have an inexpensive Canon 6220 (dye) and also a Canon 9550 Mark II printer (pigments).
I tried printing a test print from Picasa as well as from Adobe Elements and Lightroom.
We went through manh of the permuations of printing from each printer using the different print modes.
    Observations:
    0. all the prints look different.  Some are passable some are not.
    1. the Adobe ICC color managed prints from Lightroom and/or Elements don't look better (or closer to the U2410 calibrated monitor).
    2. each print has strenghts and weakness (e.g. - too much red, blue is weak, etc.)
    3. we viewed the prints in a variety of viewing environments.
    Questions:
    1. would printer profiling help at this juncture?
    2. in reality are the actual printers different then the Canon ICC profiles?
    3. do the printer profiling tools measure the distance (error) in the standard ICC profiles -vs- what was measured/computed?
    Thanks in advance!

Too much Red (weak Blue) is a symptom of Double Profiling.  I am guessing you are printing to profile in Lightroom and failing to turn off the Windows-based color management.
In your Canon Print Dialog (9550)  Main tab, Color/Intensity setting. Click the Manual button and then the [Set…]
This takes you to the Manual Color Adjustment dialog. On the Matching tab, set Color Correction to None
Now go back to Lightroom and print using the Printer/Paper profile.

  • Prints in color even when I check B&W only

Finally upgraded to Snow Leopard and now my Canon Pixma IP4300 only prints in color even when I check B&W only.

Someone else posted a similar symptom recently. They also had upgraded to 10.6 and were stating that their Canon printer was not printing in b&W. But the cause to their issue was that they were trying to use a B&W preset that they had created for the previous OS X. That preset was made for a different driver compared to the one they were now using on 10.6. When they actually changed the menu to Quality & Media and selected Grayscale the document did then print in b&w. So then all that was required was for them to delete the older preset and create a new b&w preset using the appropriate settings.
I wonder if you have a similar scenario because I am printing fine to multiple Canon inkjets in grayscale, so I don't believe it is something you need to report to Canon as has been suggested...

I recently downloaded Windows 10 on my laptop (ASUS) and now My Color Laserjet CP2025dn won't print in color. Yes, I have already quarduple checked that it's marked to print in color. Sales person told him that it's compatiable to my Mac Book Pro, Mtn Lion, but I do not see it and I don't see how to do it wirelessly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks ;o)

    Hello:
There is nothing wrong with asking questions.  There  are no dumb questions....answers, yes, but not questions.
If you set up your wi-fi router to establish a network, then both your printer and MacBook Pro will connect wirelessly.  *** I do not know what kind of router you possess, I don't want to suggest things that might not be relevant.
