Canon Rebel T1i Availability

Has anyone found the kit available at their local best buy yet? Do we know when to start seeing it in store?

From what I can tell, its supposed to arrive mid may. Havent a clue when BB gets them though.

  • Cannot get CS3 photoshop on my mac os10 to open my canon rebel T1i .CR2 files

I have spent hours downloading a variety of stuff and still cannot get  CS3 photoshop on my mac os10 to open my canon rebel T1i .CR2 files. I  have downloaded the Camera Raw 4.6 plugin. Photoshop acknowledges that  is the version installed. But it won't recognize the .CR2 file type.  When I say show me all files, the files show up in the open file dialog,  and the thumbnails look right, but when I open the file it is munged. I  also installed the DNG Converter, which also does not recognize the  .CR2 files.
Has anyone figured this out yet? It has been almost a year. I don't want to upgrade to CS4 or 5 or buy Lightroom.

The Adobe DNG Converter 6.2 will open your files, if you have an uncorrupted download and use it properly.  No doubt about that.
Once you launch it, be sure to target a folder containing raw files, not the raw files themselves.  At least on the Mac, the DNG Converter works on folders, not on individual files.
Alternatively, you can try dragging and dropping the individual raw files onto the DNG Converter icon.
Some routine maintenance may be overdue on your Mac, such as Repairing Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility, running Onyx or Cocktail, etc.

  • Canon Rebel T1i External Flash

    Hey,
I was looking into buying in external flash for my Canon Rebel T1i and was wondering if the Canon - Speedlite 600EX-RT External Flash was compatable or what everyone else recomends.  Any help would be great.
    Thanks.
    Chris

I say.... YES, get the 600ex if can afford it.
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/speedlite-600ex-rt-external-flash/5062313.p;jsessionid=A76C11FF4F0C6E763...
I use the Nikon version, but flagship flashes give you
added power for bounce lighting, diffusers, or light modifiers
servo's that can change/focus the light pattern for zoom lenses
more drop resistant than regular lenses
ability to plug in external batteries for quicker recycling
The only time when I won't use a high-end flash... is when I need added power of a "barebulb" like my Quantum Trio.

  • Iphoto reducing resolution from a Canon Rebel T1I

We have a Canon Rebel T1I.  Iphoto after importing from the camera is not saving the full pixel resolution.  It saves it on the computer to a lower pixel/resolution.  I might as well be taking the pics on my phone.  Can this setting be changed?  Can I revert the ones already imported to the higher resolution?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Where are you seeing the reduced resolution?
iPhoto is always importing from the camera at the full resolution. Either you have set the camera to a low resolution or you are looking at the previews or thumbnails of your photos.
You will see the full resolution original that iPhoto is storing, if you select the photo in iPhoto and use the command "File > Reveal in Finder > Original File".
But if you simply drag photos from iPhoto's window you will only export preview images in reduced quality.

  • Camera Raw for Canon Rebel T1i

    Hi,
Just bought the Rebel as a backup camera, I shot a few test shots in Raw format. I have Photoshop CS3, 4 and 5. I went to open the image and in each  case a message came up stating that photoshop does not reconize this type of image. Now, I have a  Canon 5D and I also do retouching work for a friend who has the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark 111 and raw images from these two cameras open just fine. Has Canon changed the raw format for the rebel and if so, what upgrade do I need?
    thanks

Canon changes the RAW format with EVERY camera they release.
Yes, you need to update the Adobe Camera RAW plugin.

  • Hello I'm Christina, I'm using the Canon Rebel T1i to record videos. It only records 40 seconds

I'm using it to record YouTube videos but it only records the first 40-46 seconds then it shuts off. It's on the mode to record up to 24 minutes but it shuts off by itself. How can I fix this?

Usually when this happens it's the memory card.
As the camera is recording frames of video, it goes to the internal memory buffer of the camera. The camera, in turn, writes the data to the memory card. The memory card's ability to "write" data is usually the slowest link in the chain. If the card cannot write data as fast as the camera can capture frames, then the internal memory on the camera will fill up and the camera will be forced to stop recording.
The specs for the T1i require a minimum "Class 6" memory card (the logo look like a C with a number 6 inside) to record video, but frankly a Class 10 card would be better.
I've come to learn that not all memory cards perform nearly as well as their manufacturer's claim. SanDisk and Lexar brands have a fairly solid reputation. Even among SanDisk and Lexar, they make different grades of cards.
Lastly, card do eventually wear out. Think of them like car tires. After one ride you wont notice the wear.... but thousands of miles later it all adds up. The process of "writing" to a card slightly degrades it and after enough writes the card will fail. For a quality card, the number of writes should be very high (in excess of 100,000 writes). So it's possible that a card which was fine once upon a time may start to exhibit problems after a few years.

  • Quick Control Screen on a Canon Rebel T1i

When I turn on the camera the quick control screen comes on.  How do I get the LCD screen to show what I am pointing the camera at?  It may be the Shooting Settings Screen not the quick control screen.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    1. Set the power switch to <ON>.
    2. Set the lens focus mode switch to <AF>.
    3. Set the shooting mode to a Creative Zone mode. (Live View shooting cannot be used in Basic Zone modes.)
    4. Press the <  > (Live View shooting) button. The Live View image will appear on the LCD monitor.
    5. The AF point <  > will appear. You can press the <Cross Keys> to move the AF point to where you want to focus.
It cannot go to the edges of the picture.
To return the AF point to the center, press the <  > button.

  • Canon rebel vs. Olympus PEN

Hi folks. I will be buying a digital still camera in the next month or two, and have kind of narrowed it down to either a Canon Rebel (T1i or XSi) or an Olympus PEN (P1, P2 or PL1). The Canon Rebel T1i records video in .MOV format, and the Olympus in AVI Motion JPEG(30fps). Can I import these into a Mac (if I upgrade to FCE 4.0)? Either format preferable? Any and all opinions are welcome. Thanks in advance!

    Hi there,
Neither of these cameras record in formats that are immediately supported by FCE. You'd have to use the free [MPEG Streamclip|http://www.squared5.com> to convert the material into something FCE could edit.
At first glance it appears that the T1i records in a format that would be easier to convert to editable material.

  • My rebel t1i isn't letting light in

My canon Rebel t1i is not letting light in in manual mode no matter how I change the settings. It looks like there's a grey haize over my lense. I tried using the flash to see if an extreme light would make any difference and the flash won't fire in manual. All the other modes seem to work just fine. Any suggestions?

The aperture will physically get smaller when you use a higher f-stop value. That's normal.
The f-stop (focal ratio) numer is the number of times the diameter of clear aperture can be divided into the focal length. Hence smaller numbers = larger opening and higher number = smaller opening.
The aperture remains wide open until you take the shot -- then the diaghram blades temporarily slide in to the needed opening size, the camera takes the picture, and they retract again.
But there is "depth of field preview" button which, on your camera (I used to have a T1i) I seem to recall is a small black button just below the button you use to unlock/release the lens (e.g. to swap lenses). That will cause the aperture blades to stop down to the size the camera will use for the shot.

  • Canon - EOS Digital Rebel T1i

Hi! I want to buy Canon - EOS Digital Rebel T1i 15.1-Megapixel Digital SLR Camera - Black, and on bestbuy website says: "digital camera that features an 18-55mm image stabilized zoom lens" But when I come to store, I saw this camera and this kit lens without IS. How it can be?? is it different products, in local store and in online store?? Thank You.

I don't know what the lens was there, but "Stabilizer" or something like this isn't on it , and the bestbuy worker said that this kit camera doesn't have IS.
Ask to see an unopened box that includes the kit.  If it claims that the lens has IS, purchase the unit and open the box in the parking lot to verify that it is an IS lens.  Hard for them to argue that you pulled a swap if you come immediately back from the parking lot.  (The longer you wait to open, verify, and return, the harder it is to return an "inconsistent" unit.)

  • Support for tethered shooting for Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i

I just read online that Apple Aperture 3.1.2 won't tether to my Canon EOS Digital Rebel T1i under OS X 10.6.7.  Is this true?  If so, is there a workaround or some software I can install?
    Thanks,
    Joe

BTW - in case anyone is wondering, I've tested this... Canon T1i does work with tethering. (this camera is natively supported by Aperture for purposes of tethering)
For any cases where there is a camera which is not supported directly, there is also a work-around which should work for almost any camera.
Go to the Aperture plug-ins page:  http://www.apple.com/aperture/resources/plugins.html
Look for a plug-in called "Aperture Hot Folders" (direct link is here:  http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/automator/aperturehotfolder.html?cmp )
The plug-in monitors a folder (of your choosing).  Any image which shows up in that folder will automatically be imported into an Aperture project (it's on-the-fly).  Essentially you'd use the Canon EOS Utility to do the tethering, which requires that you pick a target folder where it'll save all pictures you shoot during the tethered session.  You then tell Aperture Hot Folders to monitor that same folder and import any images found into an Aperture project. It gives you the ability to create tethering support for any camera that can do "tethering" even if Aperture doesn't directly support the specific camera (by using the manufacturer's own tethering utility.)

  • Canon 500D/Rebel T1i and Raw files

Does anyone know when and if Apple will support raw files from the new Canon 500D/Rebel T1i?

There is a discussion related to this on the Adobe forums:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/422600?tstart=0
It sounds as though they didn't get the RAW specs for the 500D in advance of the launch as they sometimes do so I'd assume the same is true for Apple. Given this, we could be waiting a few weeks or months..

Im about to buy a canon rebel, the logo on the bottom right corner doesnt have the t1i logo, only says 500D.....is there a difference between them?

Same camera.  They are just sold under different names in different countries.  America uses T1i, T2i, T3i, etc., while in Europe they go by 500d, 550d, 600d, etc.  In Japan the Rebel is lebelled as a "Kiss".  I wonder if in Japan they call Gene Simmons something different.
