Canon S100

I just got a canon powershoot s100 and can't open the raw file with PSE 9. Is there a plug-in? Can't find it on your website?

Hi russ2306,
Canon Powershot S100 support was added in ACR version 6.6, and PSE9 is upgradable only upto version 6.5.
So what you can do is download the Adobe DNG converter. Download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your CR2 files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your original CR2’s as backup) or for use in Canon DPP bundled with your camera.

  • Canon S100 RAW color issues

Hello, all. I created a thread with this similar issue a few months ago but never really got it resolved. Instead of reviving an old thread, I decided to just recreate it with updated information.
I have the new Canon S100 and I am having an issue with how the RAW files appear in Lightroom.
I import the photos into a Lightroom catalog and they all look fine within the importer window (which shows essentially what a JPEG would look like), but when I click on the photo in Library or Develop, once the photo finishes loading, the red saturation goes through the roof.
Any photo that already had a little bit of warmth to it exploded with red.
Whereas any photo taken in normal light gains a little more warmth and exposure.
Here are a couple examples of the JPEG preview (also how it looks in-camera) compared with what the RAW looks like once it's been loaded in Lightroom. (The above or left photo is the “normal” version, the bottom/2nd image is the RAW)
It’s sort of difficult to tell with some of the photos by looking at them side-by-side. I also have the individual photos if you want to A/B them to see the changes that are actually occurring.
There are no presets being applied upon import.
The only solution I've found is to convert them all into JPEGs using Canon's software (which does not alter the images as seen above), and edit them in Lightroom as JPEGs, but that completely eliminates the point of buying a camera that is capable of shooting in RAW.
I’ve been having this issue since the S100 first came out (when I purchased it) with Lightroom 3.6RC and was told that it would be fixed in Lightroom 3.6… which it wasn’t… nor was it fixed in Lightroom 4.
I decided to just go ahead and convert all my photos to JPEGs until I found a fix to this so I could at least have my photos (I had photos from my anniversary with my girlfriend in November that I couldn’t do anything with so I was sick of waiting).
I figured I’d wait till more people had the camera, expecting this issue to be more widespread… but now that a lot of people have the S100, I’ve looked around and found no other instances of this happening… so I’m worried it’s something on my end.
I have a 2008 13” MacBook Pro running OSX 10.7.3 and I have the latest version of Lightroom (4.0) and Camera Raw (7.0) installed. I’ve tried the photos in Photoshop CS5 and it does the same thing. When this first happened back in December I tried the photos in Aperture as well and it did the same thing.
The only software that seems to recognize the true color of the photos is Canon’s horrible “professional editing” software.
    Thanks in advance.
    -Patrick

I recently bought an S100 and encountered the same problem. With Camera Standard in Lightroom, Reds are too bright, greens are shifted towards yellow, and some yellows are shifted towards orange.
I have been using Lightroom since the beta, with different cameras from different manufacturers. The camera profiles for the S100 are the worst I have experienced by far. The profiles, particularly all of the profiles that start with "Camera," do not fit this camera. I believe somebody made a mistake. It could have been someone at Canon, it could have been someone at Adobe. I don't expect this mistake to be fixed, or even acknowledged.
Moving on, here is my workaround:
Start with the Powershot S110 Camera Standard profile.
Use dcpTool to decompile the profile.
Open the decompiled profile in a text editor.
At the top, change the name to S110 Standard.
At the bottom, set the baseline exposure offset to zero.
At the bottom, change the model restriction from S110 to S100
Use dcpTool to compile the modified profile. Give the resulting .dcp file a different name than the original.
Put the new .dcp file in the appropriate directory, open Lightroom and apply the S110 Standard profile to your S100 images.
    dcpTool is here:
    http://dcptool.sourceforge.net/Introduction.html
This hacked S110 profile gets rid of the blazing reds. It does have some problems with yellows and greens. I solve this in Lightroom by using +20 in Camera Calibration: Green Primary: Hue. I haven't had my camera very long, and I may end up making other adjustments in Lightroom. But using the Powershot S110 Camera Standard profile seems like the best place to start.
I tried using Adobe's DNG Profile Editor app on the S110 "Camera" profiles, but did not get good results. From what others have posted on Adobe's forums, this is to be expected. A lot of the "Camera" profiles are too complicated for DNG Profile Editor to work well on. Both the S100 and S110 Camera Standard profiles have over 23,000 lines of code when decompiled!
I also tried dcpTool (and DNG Profile Editor) with some of the other S series and G series profiles, without finding anything that works better than the S110 Camera Standard profile.

  • Why can't I download Canon S100 CR2 RAW files into PSE 10?

I am using PSE 10 with a Canon S100 camera. I am successful in downloading all of my jpeg files and RAW CR2 files from my older Canon Rebel, but not with the Canon S100 CR2 Raw files.
When first downloading from the Canon S100 camera into PSE 10 and later doing them manually, I receive the following messages:  Nothing imported...files are not supported file types or alread in catalog.  File damaged or in a format that cannot be included in the Elements Organizer.
These problems files, by the way, were automatically added to my Window's My Pictures catalog and are perfectly fine.

Thank you for the info. It worked great, once I was
able to get around a second problem that prevented updating
from within the PSE 10 application (error U41M1C212). That
problem was solved by disabling the MS Virtual WiFi Miniport
Adapter (located in the Network and Sharing Center control
panel). It just goes to show me once again, how complex
computer apps are and how much we all have to rely on each
other to get anything to work properly (frustratingly
enough, since the companies we paid good money to for
their problematic software are not very helpful). Thanks
    again.

Try opening a CR2 directly from a folder by right-clicking
and choosing open with Photoshop Elements editor, if that
dosent work, update the appliactaion (required for the

In the Editor menu click Help >> Updates

  • How do I import RAW (CR2) images from Canon S100 into Photoshop Elements 8?

From Adobe support I downloaded Camera_Raw_6_1.zip.  Extracted files, cut original Camera Raw.8bi file and pasted in a new folder.  Then copied the new version of Camera Raw.8bi into the empty file format location.  Still get "Cannot open ...CR2 because it is the wrong type of file."
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi,
The Canon S100 wasn't supported until version 6.6 of camera raw and that isn't supported by pse 8.
You options are to either upgrade to pse version 10 or use the DNG converter
    for windows http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5310
    or
    for mac http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5309

  • Canon S100 Photo Capture Time Correct, but Video Capture Time Is Wrong

I have a Canon S100 and just started importing photos and video into my LR 4.3 catalog. I convert RAW to DNG, and the Capture Time on the photos in LR is correct. However, the video Capture Time is shifted forward exactly 8 hours. I know how to correct the video Capture Time, but is there anything I can do to stop this from happening in the first place?
I looked at what the metadata looks like in Bridge.
    PHOTO:
Date Created = Correct Capture Time
Date File Modified = The time I imported the file into LR.
    VIDEO:
Date Created = Capture Time + 8 hours
Date File Modified = Correct Capture Time
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

In general, LR doesn't know how to read video metadata.  It uses the file's date-modified (as set by the operating system) for filtering, sorting, and pre-populating the Metadata > Edit Capture Time dialog, but it uses the file's date-created (as set by the operating system) to display in the grid view.
So you might look for a file utility that lets you set the file's date-created to be the same as the file's date-modified (note that on Windows, at least, copying a file changes the date-created but preserves the date-modified).

  • Canon S100 and Camera RAW 6.6

I upgraded from Photoshop Elements 9 to Elements 10 for the Canon S100 RAW compatability.
I installed the Elements 10 and then updated the Camera RAW to 6.6 from the Help Menu. When I try to open a file folder with a S100 RAW CR2 file I get the following error:
I have the latest Canon RAW Codec 1.9.0 installed.
I searched the on-line support and followed the instructions to uninstall Elements 10 (I also uninstalled Elements 9). I rebooted and re-installed Elements 10 then, I installed the RAW 6.6 file directly from the file on page: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5316. I still get the same error message when I go to the folder containing S100 CR2 files.
However, if I close the error window and try to open the S100 RAW file it opens in a separate window titled: Camera RAW 6-6 - Canon PowerShot S100 which can then be opened in Elements 10 after adjustment.
So, Elements 10 may be working properly except for the error window that keeps poping up as long as I have the folder open that contains the S100 RAW files.
    Any comments or help appreciated.

The message you are seeing is from Windows and has nothing to do with any Adobe products other than the fact they use Windows File / Open dialogs to locate files.
Windows is seeing a CR2 file and probably wants to show you the thumbnail for it, and the thumbnail handler for CR2 files that is registered with Windows is the Canon RAW Codec.  When Windows asks the Canon RAW Codec to show the thumnail for the S100 CR2 file, the Canon RAW Codec is smart enough to know it is too old, but the link it gives you leads to a place that does not contain any newer codec to install.  Canon is slow to release updates for their RAW Codec.  Version 1.9.0 is from last April 2011 so any new cameras that have come out since then are not supported, but it's near the end of February 2012 and if they update it once a year, then maybe it'll be updated soon.
On my system I use the payfor FastPictureViewer Codec Pack to view the thumanils of various image files:
    http://www.fastpictureviewer.com/codecs/
It shows S100 thumbnails and full-screen previews ok even though it is much older than that model of camera.

  • When will Adobe support the new Canon S100 RAW format in Lightroom (& Camera RAW)?

Just bought a new Canon S100.  It generates RAW files, but Lightroom would not import it as it said it was unsupported.  Any ideas when Adobe will start supporting this new RAW format?

Got mine yesterday and discovered LR and PS didn't recognize the camera.  To make maters worse the Canon software and manuals are on the included disc.  Unfortunately my iMac wouldn't recognize the the disc.  I called Canon and they told me the camera was too new and they couldn't help me. They didn't have another disc they could send me or I couldn't download the software on line.  They told me to check back in a few weeks.  Before I hung up, the rep asked me if there was anything else he could help me with.  All I could do was laugh.

  • I am having problems with my Canon S100 camera. The shutter is not working correctly.

I hope this is the right place to post a complaint about my Canon S100 camera's shutter not working correctly.  My daughter purchased two of these cameras, one for me, and one for herself.  Both cameras are having the same problem.  I hope Canon can help us with this serious problem.  What good is a camera if it does not take pictures?

    Stephen (Canon),
I find it quite surprising that you do not respond to 28 pages of comments regarding this issue on the other thread and yet you directly comment here.
Seems to me that the problem arises after significant use as the contacts in the shutter switch corrode and do not get the contact that they once did.  With many users this occurs just outside the 1yr warranty. However, it is clear that this is a design fault as opposed to natural 'wear and tear' and therefore I would expect that a company with Canon's reputation for excellent service would offer free repairs.
Can you please confirm if Canon are preparing a response on this issue?

  • Canon s100 video to make widescreen dvd

I shot video with a Canon s100. When I click on the mov files, they are large and wide screen.
I authored a dvd and played it on my television. The video was very small and surrounded by a large black box.
How can I get the video to fill the TV screen. I had no problem when I made wide screen dvd's from video shot with my iPod.

Please define large & wide screen.
When you open the file in Quicktime and get info(command+i) what size are the files? 1280x720, 640x480, 640x360?
How are you compressing the files for DVD? In compressor? DSP?
What does the video look like when you simulate in DSP?
If you build the DVD to your desktop and then open the Video_TS folder in the Mac DVD player application what does it look like? What ever you see here is what will end up on the DVD.

  • Lightroom won't import Canon S100 RAW images

The S100 images lack GPS data when view in Camera Raw, though Canon utility program will display the GPS data.
    ♦♦

This is about downloading CR2 files from an SD card used in a new Canon S100 using Lightroom 2.7 64-bit. Lightroom lists the files and reports "Unknown errors occurred." BridgeCS5will open and display the file, but in Photoshop CS5 the file info does not show GPS data, even though it shows in Canon's Digital Photo Professional software that came with the camera.
Anyone else having this problem? Does the latest Lightroom fix it?

  • Elements 9 w/ RAW converter 6.5 will not convert files from Canon S100.

Elements 9 with upgraded RAW converter 6.5 will not download (or convert) files from my Canon S100.

Thank you for the reply.  I have struggled with this problem for about 6 weeks.  Got bum information from both Canon and Adobe.  Grew discouraged.
As a “test” after reading the discussion, I downloaded the trial version of Elements 10.  It contained RC 6.6, which would not do the S100.  I “updated”
to 6.7 which finally did the job.  I’m really curious as to why the download of Elements 10 doesn’t “ship” with the latest RC?  I guess just to maintain

  • Canon S100 software unable to install on Windows 8

I am unable to install the supplied S100 software CD on Windows 8 with the following message 'This software does not currently support your system setup' Is there any way of getting round this? I can download the individual programs from the Canon website but it doesn't open the Canon window when connecting the camera by USB to upoad the photos.

    Macrnegie,
If you download the latest update for ImageBrowser EX available on the website and run it with the original CD in your computer's CD-ROM drive, the update will search for the CD, then install the latest version of the software.  This new version is compatible with Windows 8.  ImageBrowser EX is the program you will need to use to import the images from your camera.

  • I bought a Canon S100 and u/water housing

I drowned the camera after owning it for about a month. Went to replace it an the S110 had already superceded it and the 100 housing was also obsolete. Do you think it is fair trading that when you buy a camera, the seller does not tell you there is a new model just weeks away. Actually the Canon dealer said that Canon will not tell them if a new model is about to be released and they do not know until it arrives from their national distributer.
No way would I have bought a camera if I had known an updated one was weeks away unless a fair discount was offered to clear the stock. Also an expensive accessory which would be totally useless with an updated model.
Electronics are changing rapidly and should be expected to be outdated quickly but to keep it secret then bang, here is the new one and now all those who just purchased - tuff luck! within a few weeks is just not fair play.
    Comments please!

I am familiar about this model but from my experience with G line of point and shots, for instance I know when I bought new G10, I just I am missing the features that I really wanted such as Time lapes and lesser noise that was offered on older model and not the new one. So don't look at every new model replacing the old one as a total upgrade. Another personal experience was 30D compare to legendary 20D. A little bigger LCD totally didn't justify the difference in price and 30D was replace with 40D in about a year...
Of course I don't claim newer models are not offering newer technology but in many instances the new versions are just a face lift rather than a total fundamental change. So first do your homework in terms of what is the real difference and if really missing the newer model, you can always sell your current one on ebay or amazon for a small lose as long as everything is complete and camera is like new condition.
Also what is the return policy of place you bought? Most decent authorized dealers have some sort of fair return policy.
