Canon S120 RAW support in Photoshop Elements

I have Elements version 11. It will not recognize RAW files from my new Canon S120 camera. I saw that others have said that version 12 doesn't recognize RAW from this camera either. Anyone have any suggestions short of buying the full version of Photoshop, which I don't otherwise need?

Hi,
The S120 requires Camera Raw 8.3 or later. This is an update to PSE 12 but is not compatible with PSE 11.
If you don't want to buy PSE 12, then you could download & install the free Adobe DNG converter. You would then use that to convert your CR2 files to DNG files. The DNG files can then be processed by PSE 11.
DNG  Converter 8.5 (for non XP or Vista systems)

MAC: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5793
DNG Converter 8.3 (for XP or Vista systems)

Good luck

  • How to read canon CR2 raw photos in photoshop elements 8 ?

I have PSE 8 for several years and purchased recently a new Canon Camera delivering raw pictures in CR2 format.
This format is not recognized by PSE 8.
    What can I do ?

Your version of PSE is too old to be able to use a compatible version of Adobe Camera Raw. You have three choices:
    1. Upgrade to PSE 11.
    2. Use DPP that came with the camera to do your raw conversions and then use PSE for additional editing for the converted tiff files when needed.
    3. Use the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your raw files to a format your older version of ACR can parse. Mytaxsite gave you the link to the windows converter. Here's a link to the mac version:

  • When will Camera raw be available for processing Canon 7d Mark two in Photoshop Elements 12

When will Camera raw be available for processing Canon 7d Mark two in Photoshop Elements 12?

    Hi,
    Probably never.
PSE 13 is now out and updates are usually only compatible with the latest version - ACR 8.6 didn't even make it for PSE 12.
ACR 8.7 for PSE 13 should probably include support but we don't know when it will be released.

  • I have Photoshop Elements 12 for both PC and Mac (I use both). I have a new camera, Nikon D810. I downloaded the latest version of Camera Raw, 8.8. My D810 is listed as a supported camera model. However, when I try to open a raw photo in Photoshop Element

I have Photoshop Elements 12 for both PC and Mac (I use both). I have a new camera, Nikon D810. I downloaded the latest version of Camera Raw, 8.8. My D810 is listed as a supported camera model. However, when I try to open a raw photo in Photoshop Elements, I keep getting the message "Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw. I have tried reinstalling Camera Raw many times, and have tried to open many different raw files in Elements, and still get the same error message. Please help.

How did you try to install ACR 8.8.  The only way I know of that works with Elements is to use the Updates Choice on the Help menu.
There are two charts supplied by Adobe that explain your RAW dilemma.  This one tells you what your camera needs:  http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html   This one tells you what version of software you need:  http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
In your case, the Nikon D810 needs Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) 8.6 or Lightroom 5.6.  (Congratulations on buying a new camera!)
To get to that level with Photoshop Elements, you will need to replace your Photoshop Elements 12 with version 13.   Adobe caps ACR updates on version 12 at 8.5.
The most convenient way to get around it without spending any money is to use the FREE from Adobe DNG Converter.  Download and install it from here for FREE:  http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/thankyou.jsp?ftpID=5855&fileID=5890  Once it is installed you can convert your D810 raw files to an Adobe RAW version with the .DNG file extension that most, if not all, versions of the various Adobe software programs can use.  That includes old versions of Photoshop, Elements and Lightroom.  DNG converter can be used as the tool to move your files from your memory card to your computer, is efficient, will convert in batches and is completely lossless.  There is no risk of any image quality degradation or RAW functionality.

  • Opening raw images in Photoshop Elements 9

When opening raw images in Photoshop Elements 9 (File -> Open or File -> Open As), the Adobe Camera Raw dialog do not open.
Instead I get a window with a progress bar and the text "Reading Camera Raw Format".
The image then opens in the Photoshop Elements editor.
I have tested this with raw images both from Canon EOS 1000D and Samsung WB2000 cameras.
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to solve this issue.
I run Photoshop Elements on a HP netbook running Widows XP and with an Intel Atom N450 / 1.66 GHz processor, 2 GB ram and a screen resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels.

Unfortunately you can't see the raw converter in PSE 9 on screens less than 800 px tall, which means not on netbooks. PSE will automatically convert it for you, but that dialog box and a few others, like the Advanced Downloader window, will not appear.

  • How do I open my raw files in photoshop elements 12 editor-..my files convert to jpegs

How do I open my raw files in photoshop elements 12 editor.  I have a MacBook. I use the iPhoto and move the files I want to work on into elements, but it converts the raw files into jpeg files.
    Thanks for your help!!!

Are you opening the image directly from iPhoto? Right click & choose Edit in >> Photoshop Elements Editor
This link is old but gives information on set up. It relates to PSE11 but the principle is the same. In iPhoto prefs you navigate to the editor application in the support files folder. Start from Finder by holding down the Alt (Optn key) and choosing Library.

  • I just upgraded to a 3ti from a rebel xt. When I try to open my RAW images in photoshop elements 5.

I just upgraded to a 3ti from a rebel xt.  When I try to open my RAW images in photoshop elements 5.0 get an error message.   I installed the camera raw update 4.2 but that didn't work.  Any suggestions.

    Hi,
Elements version 5 was made obsolete by Elements 6 back in 2007.  The T3i was only released 2-3 years ago.  Adobe was up to Elements version 9 or 10 by then.  Every camera has its own particular camera raw software, and Adobe has to write an update for the software to work with each new camera's RAW files.  And Adobe stops updating the old versions to work with new cameras when the next version of Elements/Lightroom come out.
I had to buy Lightroom 4 only 6 months after I had bought Lightroom 3 when I bought a new camera.  The older version would not, and never will, work with the RAW files from my 6D.
You could, I believe, use DPP to convert the RAW files before exporting them into Elements 5, but personally I would just take this as a cue that it is time to get Elements 11.  Or Lightroom 5.  I personally prefer Lightroom.

  • Canon S120 RAW images not working with iPhoto. Why.

Canon S120 RAW images why they can't be downloaded to iPhoto and/or when will Apple upgrade iPhoto so they can?

Raw Support for each model of camera has to be added individually. That's Model not brand. The Raw from an S120 is not the same as the Raw from an S110 and so on. This is a pretty new camera, and the makes don't supply the Raw decoding, so they have to be reverse engineered. Then that will be released as part of an OS or camera raw update.
Let Apple know you want this camera supported.

  • Where is RAW editing in Photoshop Elements 13?

I have purchased the CD for Photoshop Elements 13 (not the Premium version) and have uploaded to my computer. I have an Olympus XZ-1 camera and am saving images as RAW (.ORF) files.  I have uploaded recent updates to Photoshop Elements 13, including RAW 9.0. I cannot find reference in Help for Photoshop Elements 13 how to edit RAW files.  I cannot find a tutorial how to edit RAW files in Photoshop Elements 13. Do I have to purchase Photoshop Elements 13 Premium in order to have RAW editing capabilities?  Should I upload Adobe DNG Converter in order to edit .ORF RAW files with Photoshop Elements?  I did find a set of tutorials on the Adobe site called "How to make non-destructive edits in Camera RAW."  But Photoshop Elements 13 does not have all the features that are described in this tutorial.  I would appreciate your help.  Carl Baird [email protected]

The Camera Raw plug-in when hosted in Elements only has three tabs, Basic (toning), Detail (sharpening, noise-reduction) and Camera Calibration (camera profile).
What version of the Camera Raw plug-in is listed in Help / About Plug-ins / Camera Raw?
What happens if you are in the PSE  Editor and use File / Open in Camera Raw and go select a raw file from your new camera?

  • How do I download raw images into photoshop elements 11.

I am having difficulty downloading my raw images to photoshop elements 11.  Files are currently on a thumb drive, but I don't know how to download to elements.  I have the thumb drive plugged in --- not sure where to go from here. I have verified that I have the plug in - version 7.1.0.354.
    Any ideas?

You can either drag them in Organizer workspace or import the folder. Or you can also use Adobe Photo Downloader. There are many options listed here http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/getting-started/import-camera-or-card-reader.htm l
