Canon S300 - how to get it to work with iPhoto?

I have downloaded the proper drivers for the Canon S300 for OS X and this printer will work fine with data documents. However, it will not print pictures from iPhoto. I have been unable to find a list of printers supported by iPhoto. This is an older Canon printer and I imagine it would not be on such a list anyway. Does anyone know any tricks for using this printer with iPhoto?
Thanks!

Thanks for the reply.
When you clicking on the advanced tab it presents you with the full print dialog (the print dialog in iPhoto is known as simple). The Canon driver adds several print options to the printer menu (known as PDE's), one of which is the Quality & Media tab that you are selecting for the high-quality photo option. There is a chance that you may be using an older version that has not been written for the Intel platform thus giving you an error. The quickest way to check this would be to print the photo without selecting the high-quality setting. From the simple print window in iPhoto, if you can print to the S300 without the spooler stopping then we know there is only an issue when you select the Canon extra features.
To check the version of the PDE's installed on your Mac, open /Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinter/PDEs. Here you will find the extra driver options. For the v4.1.5 driver, which is the latest for Tiger, you will see the options with a suffix of 415, ex QualityMedia415.pde. If you have older versions of the same file (shown with a lower number suffix) then this could be causing the trouble. Also, if you do a Get Info on the xx415.pde files, the General tab of the Info window should show a Kind of (Universal). If you don't have v415 files or if they show (PPC), then delete the contents of the BJPrinters folder, delete the printer from the Printer List, restart the Mac, reinstall the Canon S300 v4.1.5 driver, add the printer again and finish by running the repair permissions option in Disk Utility. Then try printing from iPhoto again using the high-quality option to see if that works.

  • Has anyone figured out how to get speech recognition working with sticky keys enabled on mountain lion?

I'm trying to use speech recognition to input text on my iMac running the latest mountain lion, 10.8.3.
    I have sticky keys enabled.
When I try to start speaking by pressing the function key twice nothing happens. I can only get it to work if I disable sticky keys.
The same problem occurs with all the other modifier keys as shortcut, they do not work with sticky keys.
When I try to select a different shortcut, I am unable to select a two key combination, but am limited to one.
If I select the F6 key, or any other single key, I am able to start speech recognition. However the second time that I press the key, it does not stop recognition and process my words. Instead, it restarts the recognition.
Has anyone figured out how to get speech recognition working with sticky keys enabled?
Or a way to get an individual key shortcut to start on the first press and process it on the second?
Or a way to get key combinations to work, as specified by the help:
    Dictation On and Off
    To use Dictation, click On.
When you’re ready to dictate text, place the insertion point where you want the dictated text to appear and press the Fn (function) key twice. When you see the lighted microphone icon and hear a beep, the microphone is ready for you to speak your text.
    Shortcut
By default, you press the Fn (Function) key twice to start dictation. If you like, you can choose a different shortcut from the menu.
To create a shortcut that’s not in the list, choose Customize, and then press the keys you want to use. You can press two or more keys to create your shortcut.

I noticed with version 10.8.4 of OS X that I am now able to select F6 to activate, and the return key to complete the speech recognition. This is still different than the description of how these should function that's included in the help, but at least it's an improvement.

  • How to get Messages to work with a proxy server?

at work we use a proxy server.
some icloud programs work, but Messages does not.
any idea how to get this to work through a proxy server?
    thanks.

    Hi,
    Now I feel really silly.
I remember the pane looking like this though:-
As there used to be two iChat forums here at Apple Support Communities  and the older iChat 2.1 one has disappeared I am not sure how many threads might be available for scrutiny on this matter.
AS I said I don't ever recall someone reporting that they got it  to work.
During early version of iChat it was found that the AIM server would accept a login on almost any port.
It became popular to suggest port 443  as this was a well known port known to be open on most routers "out-of-the-box" and likely to be open in campus situations where students may not have any control over what ports were open.
An AIM Login can also do "Direct IMs" for which is switches to port 5190 on the UDP Protocol.
At this point the chat is peer to peer.
It does this if you send a pic in the Chat or send a file.
It uses port 5190 for this no matter what is used for the Login.

  • How to get IIOP to work with port 2481

I've seen a pile of threads on problems getting IIOP to work in
JDeveloper 2.0. Here is one possible solution to the problem.
First, the server should be running TCP/IP and this must be
working. Second, the IP address must be static (for this
solution). Third, a published entry should NOT exist in your
DNS for this server (e.g., can't ping this server name from
    outside).
On your client DO make an entry in your local 'hosts' file so
you can reference the IP easier. This is NOT required as you
can still reference the IP address in the Connection Wizard Host
    ID field.
On the server make sure the LISTENER.ORA is setup to reference
the HOST by the machine name.
For example, on an NT Oracle 8i Server with the DNS enabled (in
the NT network configuration) with a host name of ORA_SVR in
domain MY_DOMAIN.COM, the setup would look like this:
    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC0))
    (PROTOCOL_STACK =
    (PRESENTATION = TTC)
    (SESSION = NS)
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = ora_svr)(PORT = 1521))
    (PROTOCOL_STACK =
    (PRESENTATION = TTC)
    (SESSION = NS)
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = ora_svr)(PORT = 2481))
    (PROTOCOL_STACK =
    (PRESENTATION = GIOP)
    (SESSION = RAW)
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = D:\Oracle\Ora81)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    (SID_DESC =
    (GLOBAL_DBNAME = ORCL)
    (ORACLE_HOME = D:\Oracle\Ora81)
    (SID_NAME = ORCL)
Now, in the INIT.ORA file make sure you use the IP address for
the host name NOT the actual host name used above. Here is the
snipit that should be entered to enable the MTS and configure it
properly. Note that 127.0.0.1 (local_host) will not work - at
least not for me. The IP of '198.100.0.10' is used as an
example here, you would enter the static server IP where the
    database (ORA_SVR) is.
    mts_dispatchers = "(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=198.100.0.10)
    (PORT=2222))(DISPATCHERS=1)
    (PRE=oracle.aurora.server.SGiopServer)"
    mts_dispatchers = "(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=198.100.0.10)
    (PORT=2223))(DISPATCHERS=1)(PRE=oracle.aurora.server.GiopServer)"
    # Uncomment the following two lines when your dispatcher are
    configured to listen
    # on SSL ports (sqlnet.ora)
    # mts_dispatchers = "(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCPS)(HOST=198.100.0.10)
    (PORT=5555))(DISPATCHERS=1)
    (PRE=oracle.aurora.server.SGiopServer)"
    # mts_dispatchers = "(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCPS)(HOST=198.100.0.10)
    (PORT=5556))(DISPATCHERS=1)(PRE=oracle.aurora.server.GiopServer)"
    mts_max_dispatchers = 5
    mts_servers = 1
Next, on the server also ensure that the TNSNAMES.ORA is setup
    with (at least) these entries:
    ORCL.WORLD =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (SOURCE_ROUTE = OFF)
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = ORA_SVR)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = ORCL)
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA.WORLD =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (SOURCE_ROUTE = OFF)
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(Key = EXTPROC0))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = PLSExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
Finally, stop the listener with 'LSNRCTL STOP' and shutdown the
database instance using SVRMGRL or the NT service control. Then
restart the listener with 'LSNRCTL START' and restart the
    database instance.
If all went well, JDBC, IIOP and all your other Oracle tools
should work. Check the listener log if not. If you
see 'REJECTED' messages on port 2481, the listener still not
making a connection with the dispatcher.
I assume if you had a DNS entry for your server the IP would not
be necessary in the dispatcher. I'm not sure how it resolves IP
addresses. Part of the problem I noticed was the way the HOST
was being translated by the Dispatcher. If you had
used 'ORA_SVR' in my example, it would have translated
into 'ora_svr.my_domain.com' which, would fail since the
listener didn't find that host with a database instance
of 'ORCL' running on it. At least that's what I think is
happening. Bottom line, this solved my configuration problem
and I thought it might help others. If it doesn't work for you,
    well, sorry.

  • How to get twain to work with PS CS5 on Mac OS 10.6.8?

I have CS5 Design Standard on a Macbook Pro OS 10.6.8 . I tried downloading the twain plugin and dragging into applications/ PSCS5/plug-ins/import-export then relaunching as instructed on Adobe website. Nothing. The plug-in is there but no twain interface for the scanner appears as an option under file import in PS. The scanner is  an older Epson  Perfection 1250. The latest driver for the scanner is installed.
(IMHO Twain should be a standard part of the Adobe suite. Scanners are universal, especially for users of graphics programs.)

The plug-in is there but no twain interface for the scanner appears as an option under file import in PS
you answered your own question -- Adobe will point the finger at Epson, and Epson will call Adobe out for breaking their driver -- but the 1250 is how old
this question gets answered here a couple times a month, and there are many web articles explaining the problem in more detail...
the short answer is scan in the stand alone scanning software (ViewScan may solve your issue)
most notably, that approach keeps Ps running in 64 bit and keeps it freed up to continue working while that ancient scanner chugs away
PS:  I am not trying to beat you up for using good hardware that is still working for you, I am just trying to add a second opinion what others have said

  • MS-6967 how to get it to work with mobile phone tools?

I've recently bought a MS-6967 after borrowing a TDK BT dongle from a mate and successfully used mobile phone tools to put MP3 tones into my Motorola V525 phone. So I gave my mate his TDK BT back and thought I'd start using my MS-6967 instead.
I can get it to connect phone to PC OK but not with mobile phone tools, every time I get to set up V525 in MPT and it seems to just about to stop and find my V525, then MPT program crashes. I'm using XP Pro SP1, MSI 1.4.3.4 drivers which just came out and version 2.21c MPT even updated to 2.21f and no difference. Its driving me mad, is it the MS-6967 or what?
    Any help appreciated.
    Andy.

Hi again, thanks for the help.
Her phone seems to have a whole section specifically for connecting to Yahoo Mail, but unfortunately she doesn't have Yahoo Mail, she has a (name)@btinternet.com address (which was set up automatically when she got BT Broadband), which she normally accesses via Outlook.
I think she just has to set it up with her server settings, there is the setup to do this on the phone, but so far it's not working - I don't know whether this is because she hasn't remembered them all correctly (her PC is currently without a monitor so she couldn't check them), or whether it's because she needs to subscribe to some additional service? I thought that seemed unlikely, my friends all check their emails on their phones without any extra services - I'm afraid I've never had a phone sophisticated enough to do anything more than text on though so I don't know how it's done! Anyway thanks again for taking the time to advise, it's much appreciated!

  • A tip on how to get mail to work with O2 SMTP servers.

I found I had a problem in Mountain Lion where Mail could not log into the O2 SMTP servers even though I was using the exact same settings that were on my iPhone, iPad and MBP running Lion?
Well I finally found a solution.
In Mail open preferences and click on Accounts and select the account in the lefthand pane.
Click on the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) and in the drop down menu select Edit SMTP Servers to get:
Normally the radio button against Use Default Ports would be checked, instead check Use Custom Port and insert the number 25 and click OK.
Now back at the Accounts window click on Advanced at the top to get:
Make sure you have Port 110, on mine changing the SMPT to 25 also altered this to 25 so worth checking. When you have finished close the preferences and click on save, quite Mail then restart hopefully all should work now.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take one of the actions that you're having trouble with. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

I imagine it's just an error dealing with port reuse... you're trying to do two different things on the same port, which isn't possible.
Try it on two different machines.

The 3.0.4 and earlier Debug menue now has a different parameter name in 3.1.
Start Terminal, copy and paste in the following line and press return.
    defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeInternalDebugMenu 1
    Start Safari and feel good
Additionally I restored 3.0.4 with Time Machine cause the Debug menues are a bit different.

  • How to get Messaging Gateway working with MQ Serieson 9.2 on NT

I wonder if you can help me a little more to get a pilot installation running on NT.
I'm trying to get the Message Gateway set up from a 9i Rel2 instance on Windows NT 4.0 SP6a talking to a remote MQ Series Q. The docs are confusing,as they don't seem to be based on 9i Rel 2.
    This is my current config:
    tnsnames.ora:
    MGW_AGENT =(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=
                   (ADDRESS= (PROTOCOL=IPC)(KEY=EXTPROC_KEY)))
              (CONNECT_DATA = (SID=mgwextproc) (PRESENTATION=RO)))
    extproc_connection_data = (DESCRIPTION =(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = extproc_key))
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = extproc)))
    listener.ora
    listener =( address_list =
    (address = (protocol = tcp)(host = swr851)(port = 1521))
    (address = (protocol = ipc)(key = extproc_key)))
    sid_list_listener = (sid_list =
    (sid_desc =     (global_dbname = raj1)(oracle_home = d:\oracle\902)(sid_name = raj1))
    (sid_desc =     (program = extproc)(sid_name = extproc)))
    mgw_ora
    log_directory=d:\oracle\902\mgw\log
    log_level = 2
    set LD_LIBRARY_PATH=d:\oracle\902\jdk\jre\lib;d:\oracle\902\rdbms\lib;d:\oracle\902\lib;c:\program files\ibm\mqseries\java\lib
    set MGW_PRE_PATH=D:\oracle\902\jdk\jre\bin\classic
    set CLASSPATH=D:\oracle\902\jdbc\lib\classes12.zip;d:\oracle\902\jdk\jre\lib\i18n.jar;d:\oracle\902\jdk\jre\lib\rt.jar;d:\oracle\902\sqlj\lib\runtime12.zip;d:\oracle\902\jdbc\lib\nls_charset12.zip;d:\oracle\902\sqlj\lib\translator.zip;d:\oracle\902\jdbc\lib\nls_charset12.zip;d:\oracle\902\mgw\classes\mgw.jar;c:\program files\ibm\mqseries\java\lib
    set ORACLE_SID=raj1
when I run dbms_mgwadm.startup, I get ORA-32830: result code -3 returned by Messaging Gateway agent as the last_error_msg when I query mgw_gateway. There is no log generated in $ORACLE_HOME\mgw\log. If I rerun dbms_mgwadm.startup, the agent is reachable - what could be wrong ?

    Hi,
-3...An error occurred creating the MGW log file. Verify that the log directory is writeable. The default location is <ORACLE_HOME>/mgw/log.
In documentations is described the following on the link:
    http://otn.oracle.com/docs/products/oracle9i/doc_library/release2/appdev.920/a96587/qfaqs.htm
What if MGW_GATEWAY view shows LAST_ERROR_MSG of "ORA-32830: result code <value> returned by Messaging Gateway agent?"
The result code may be one of the following:
-1...An error occurred starting the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). Check the MGW log file for an entry that contains one of the following lines.
Can't create Java VM Verify that the Java version you are using is correct. Verify that your operating system version and patch level are sufficient for the JDK version. Verify that you are using a reasonable value for the JVM heap size. The heap size is specified by the max_memory parameter of dbms_mgwadm.alter_agent.
Can't find class oracle.mgw.engine.Agent Verify that the CLASSPATH set in mgw.ora contains mgw.jar. For example:
    set CLASSPATH=<ORACLE_HOME>/mgw/classes/mgw.jar
-2...An error occurred reading mgw.ora. Verify that the file is readable.
-3...An error occurred creating the MGW log file. Verify that the log directory is writeable. The default location is <ORACLE_HOME>/mgw/log.
-100...The MGW agent JVM encountered a runtime exception or error on startup.
-101...The MGW agent shut down due to a fatal error. Check the MGW log file.

    HI,
With Firefox open, from the Menu Bar, select Firefox/Preferences. Click the Security tab. Under Passwords; Select Remember passwords for sites.
