Canon S80 USB connection

I have recently purchase a Canon S80 camera. When I connect it to my iMac iPhoto starts and I am able to load the pictures but the camera does not appear on my desktop. This makes it difficult for me to eject the camera before disconnecting. Any suggestions

Well, my first suggestion is to always use a card reader, which is both faster and safer, but for now, try this. Go to image capture when the camera is not connected, and, in the prefs, choose Nothing for "When a camera is connected…" Then plug your camera in. Does it mount now?

    Thanks for the quick reply.
So am I correct in saying trying to utilise the Airport Express to access the printer over the network was a wasted effort due to the latest iOS? I had read up on the express before purchase and believed that was one of it's main purposes.
    Thanks again for the help.

  • MacBook Pro suddenly won't read SanDisk 8G memory card, nor Canon T2i USB connection.

    Suggestions?
I've plugged the memory card into the slot several times not even a week ago and it worked just fine...now it won't.
I have tried plugging the camera in via the USB hook up and nothing happens but yet it works fine on other computers I've used.

I just received the following helpful URL link from SanDisk tech support.
    http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/60
SanDisk responded within 5 hours of my inquiry. After removing all USB devices from my iMac and reinserting the card reader alone, the reader started working again. I ejected it numerous times from USB ports on the iMac as well as from a USB hub. After plugging my other USB devices back in, I have not detected if there was a device which was causing the conflict. As a precaution I have removed USB devices that are only used periodically such as a Colorvision Spyder2Express device used every 30 days or so to color correct my monitor.
Hope this helps others with Mac card reader issues.

  • I use an iMac 10.6.8 with iPhoto '09 to download digital images from Canon DSLRs. Until the last two weeks there has been no trouble whatever importing images by  a USB connection from either camera to the Mac. Now the process will not kick in. Any ideas?

I use an Mac OSX 10.6.8 with iPhoto 09 to download digital images from two Canon DSLRs. Until the last week, there has been no problem whatever in launching the import procedure once the USB connection has been connected and the camera switched on. Now the process will not kick in at all for either camera.  I can't find a solution through iPhoto help or from other sources.
Any ideas to fix?  (I admit I have not tested the USB cable at this time).

    What does "kick in" mean?
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
    Post back with the result.

  • Differences operating Canon Pro-10 Wirelessly vs USB connected

To test my new Canon Pro-10 I connected it via USB last night and printed with it.  The Quick Menu was "complete" with all the bells and whistles showing in the "corner" box.  When I printed it offered me many options for Quality and Media -- various types of paper including Canon paper and other papers.  Now that I've successfully connected wirelessly, my paper options are limited to "photo paper" and "plain paper", and the corner box has only a couple icons in it and I get a message that a driver is missing for Quick Menu.  I re-installed Quick Menu from the Canon website and I still get that message.  Prints I got last night via USB connection were good -- a bit dark but good quality.  I'd selected "other matte paper" because it was a third party brand.  Today I used the same paper and printed one of the same images and it was smeary and totally unusable.  I switched to Canon paper and printed the same image.  It was much better but WAY too dark to use.  I can probably edit the image to fix that but I shouldn't have to......
VERY unhappy with my Canon experience so far -- been using an Epson for 8 years, thought it was time for an upgrade and I wanted wireless due to space constraints around my desk.  Should I not expect quality photo prints via wireless?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I have three of these printers in this line.  The 9000, 9500 II amd the Pro-100.  Not a Pro-10, however.
They all printed differently but after a little tinkering with the settings, they all did very well.  They are great printers.
First off you must not let the printer set anything.  Turn off every bit off control it has.  You can do this with the Canon My Printer under the Printer Settings tab.  Do you know how?  I will guess, yes, for now but if you don't get back to me.
Second, you need to have your photo editor handle all settings and color matching.  You know how to do this?
And lastly, it is essential you get some settings on your monitor that somewhat matches what the printer is printing.  Your printer may be doing exactly what you are telling it to do and you have no idea it is, because your monitor is off.  If you don't do this step, you can forget the other steps.  However, there are only a few things that you need to be concerned with.  You don't need any fancy extra add-ons to do this.  No additional sortware or gadgets, etc.
But you must get the grey-scale very close.  You need to get the brightness very close and you need the contrast very close.
After you do these things you can make adjustments to your prints by just looking at your screen.  Because you know the monitor and printer are on the same level.  One more point, you can NOT get a printer to print every color exactly the way you saw it.  It isn't possibile as all colors and adjustment effect all others.  My goal is to get the skin tones right.  That is what people notice most.
For instance, I know my newest Pro-100 tends to print darker than what I see on the monitor.  So, I automatically know to set it's prints one stop brighter in Photoshop, in my case.  It also prints with a slightly warn tone.  Most of the time, with protraits especially, this if OK but sometimes it is not.  In that case I adjust the "temp" setting slightly cooler in PS.
Make sure you have the correct ICC profiles and you are using Canon brand ink and paper untill you get good with the printer.  Very, very important, otherwise you don't know if the printer is doing exactly what you are telling it to or not.
Also, use the USB connection until everything is right.  You are just adding another issue when you try to set up the printing a nd the wireless all at the same time.  Just like using Canon branded products until it is a go.

  • My Dell Inspiron 1525 is USB connected to my Canon Pixma MX 392 printer, but is "not detecting".

My Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop is USB connected to my Canon Pixma MX392 multifunction printer. Though the
printer is functioning properly in all respects, a message is showing that my laptop "cannot detect" the printer.
At the same time I'm receiving a message (wizard?) "Found New Hardware - Windows Needs to Install Driver
Software for Your Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller". My Printer folder shows my Canon is "ready",
and the Port is shown as "USB..Virtual printer port for Canon MX390 series Printer". My Device Manager
folder lists the Canon printer and fax under "Printers", and under "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controllers"
    are listed: MX390 series (1 time); Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller (7 times); Unknown device (7 times);
USB Printing Support (2 times). I've tried unistalling and re- installing everything associated with the printer,
but get the same results. As I've stated the printer is functioning fine, but the "incessant" appearing of the
message, "Found New Hardware, etc." is extremely annoying. When I follow the "wizard's" instructions to,
"locate and install driver software (recommended)", I'm finally told to" insert the disc that came with your Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller". I don't have any discs that came with either the printer or laptop. Is
anyone able to make any sense of this...and, hopefully, offer help in getting rid of the "Found New Hardware"
    message. Many thanks!

I'm not sure the error is related to your printer.

  • IMac can't find my printer (usb connected, Canon MP600R)

    Hi all,
I am trying to connect my MP600R with a usb connection to my iMac. The problem is that my iMac isn't showing any printer! I am sure that the cable is fine. I can connect it to my time capsule but I don't want that, because I want to scan with it too and the time capsule is on the 1st floor. So please, could anyone help me. I tried to get the newest software from the Canon site, but nothing works!
    Thanks a lot!

With the printer connected to your iMac, select Apple > Software Update... from the menu bar.
If the latest Canon Printer Driver Update does not automatically show up in the Software Updater, disconnect the printer, restart the iMac, reconnect the printer and try updating again.
If it is still not updating or working, you should try a different USB port on the iMac, another printer cable and/or test the printer connected a different computer to make sure that it is working.
Lastly here is the latest > Canon Printer Drivers v2.6 for Mac OS X v10.6 that you can install manually on your system if you like.

  • USB connectivity issues with Canon 5d

Running 10.4.8, and Capture one Pro 3.7.6. we are trying to tether our Canon 5D to our computers.
It had all been working fine, but the camera had to go back to Canon for repair to USB connection.
On Return it wouldn't connect to either of our machines.
We tried to see if it would connect through Canon's own software, and it would not.
But here's the thing: a borrowed 5d won't connect either, and yet it connects fine to its owners computer. AND Our 5d connects to their computer.
Other point: we do have the ltest firmware, and have for a while. Also, Canon EOS 1ds connects fine through firewire.
I think this points to Mac, and maybe to Canon and mac. Anyone else have a thought?
(At some point I remember having to replace a .kext file when we went from 10.4.6 to 10.4.7, and the change to 10.4.8 made no problems, but there have been no updates to our software since the repair.)
Any thoughts on this will be appreciated...particularly if they solve the problem.

On Macs, tethering got broken recently, but that isn't your problem.
I know that some Nikons have two menu-settable options for the USB connection, only one of which works for tethering. Perhaps your Canon has something similar. (Nikon's are PTP and Mass Storage.)

  • Can't use correct driver for Canon MF4140 USB printer shared by Windows XP

    Hi all,
I have a Canon MF4140 printer connected to my Windows XP desktop machine via USB. The printer is shared and I can see it over the network with my MacBook running OS-X 10.4.
I've downloaded the OS-X version of the printer driver from Canon, but I can't select it when adding the printer in OS-X, so I can't access any of the printer settings. I've selected the generic driver but that doesn't allow me to do double sided or 2-up printing.
Is this because the printer driver does not support network printing, as the printer doesn't have a network interface?

I guess this isn't clear on the iFelix page. To use any of the built-in network printing protocols on OS X, you must either have a postscript printer (postscript printers don't require a driver, just a PPD), or a driver that works with the CUPS system (a CUPS driver). So far, Brother is the only non-postscript printer manufacturer that provides CUPS drivers. For every other non-postscript printer, you need a third-party CUPS driver. Apple tried to get around this issue by including Gimp-Print drivers (open source CUPS drivers), but your model isn't in Gimp-Print. You can look around for other CUPS drivers, but Lexmark hasn't been cooperative with driver writers. Here are the CUPS driver sources:
    http://www.linuxprinting.org/macosx/

    http://www.printfab.net/
You may find it easier to share from OS X.

  • Can't print with airport usb connection only

i have spent the last 3 days searching for help to fix my problem - PLEASE HELP!!!
    using:
    imac osx 10.6.8
    canon image class mf8350cdn
    airport extreme base station
I cannot seem to print wirelessly with my imac using just the USB connection on the airport router.  I can print with the printer locally when it's "hardwired" directly to a usb on the back of the imac.  I can print if i connect a cat5 network cable from the printer to the airport. i can print wirelessly with a PC when the printer is connected with a usb to the airport.  i just can't do this with my imac via the usb connection on the router.  my error message is a Canon CMFP Printer Driver telling me printer is not responding - check the power.....try sending again.
I believe i have tried everything!!!  While i am newer to mac and not the greatest at networking, i have manipulated every setting to match up with all of the online help i can get (trying to not have to send this question!!) and no luck.
i have deleted printers and jobs, reinstalled everything, i changed the cable, downloaded the latest drivers from canon and apple, i updated the firmware on the printer. i even reinstalled my osx and confirmed all is updated on my imac.
i don't want to scan or fax this way - so that is not my issue -- it's just plain old printing using that usb port.
i need all of my other ports on the airport for other things, so i cannot sacrific this one for printing - i just want to use the usb as my printer connection to print with all of the machines i have.
hope my question makes sense and that someone will take the time to give a reply.
    thanks!!
p.s. the closest discussion that matches my issue seems to be this one:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12367897#12367897
but, i still can't seem to get there..........

The most comprehensive set of troubleshooting instructions for printing problems involving Airport printers is found at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107418
It is possible your printer simply cannot be made to work in this manner, and is more often than not a problem with multifunction printers.

  • Connecting to USB connected printer via LPD

    Hi there,
Does anyone know if you can access a USB attached printer using the LPD protocol? I cannot find this in the Time Capsule documentation.
I'm helping a Yosemite user where Bonjour is not working and thus the USB connected printer is not being advertised in order to add it.
How to get Yosemite to see new printer driver for Canon via Bonjour
For other brands, the USB port has a name like Port1 or PR1. So I would like to know if the Time Capsule supports such a connection.
    Thanks
    PaHu

Hello PAHU. I'm thrilled to have run across you on the Apple site. Your post (below) is exactly what I need help with:
"Rather than use Bonjour, which seems to have a problem for some users who have updated to Yosemite, you can use one of the IP protocols included with OS X. To do so you will need to find the IP address the printer is using. If you need help with that, reply with the model of Canon you have.
With the IP address noted, open Printers & Scanners and click the plus button to add. Select the IP icon and enter the Canon IP address in the Address field. Change the Protocol to LPD and leave the Queue blank. Change the Name to the model of Canon and then in the Use menu, select the appropriate Canon driver for your model. Click the Add button to complete the printer creation and then see if you can print."
Kindly please tell me how to find my printer's IP address. I am desperately trying to reconnect to my Canon PIXMA MP500 since upgrading to Yosemite. I will be in your debt!
    Thank you most kindly!

  • Windows 8.1 doesn't start Camera Window when Canon SX110IS is connected

When my Canon SX110IS is connected and turned on, Device Manager shows the camera as a connected Portable Device; and clicking Start/Control Panel/AutoPlay/Devices lists the Canon SX110IS and shows "Downloads Images from Canon Camera (Canon CameraWIndow)" as the action to take when camera is connected; however, when the camera is connected and turned on, Windows 8.1 doesn't start the CameraWindow program.

Solution: I thought that setting preferences using Windows 8.1 Control Panel / AutoPlay would make those actions happen.  NOT SO!  You MUST ALSO click to select "Use AutoPlay for all media and devices" at the top of the AutoPlay window.  When you have your preferences set for your Media Card and your Canon Camera, AND have that also selected, the preferred actions you chose WILL take place when you either connect your camera to your computer via USB cable and turn the camera on, or insert your SD card in your computer.
In answer to why I connect via USB cable rather than inserting the SD card, it takes the same time for me to open the AV door and connect a USB cable between the camera and the computer as it does to open the battery door, remove the SD card, and insert it in the computer.  So I guess it just depends on which mode you prefer to use.

  • USB connected all-in-one printers

Ok, so I know this will probably sound like the same old question answered again, but, is it possible to get full functionality from a USB connected all-in-one printer/scanner? In particular a Canon Pixma MP540. This is a printer sold from the Apple store, and so, I would have thought it would have been vetted by Apple experts. If it is not, then why is it not made more obvious in the Time capsule literature? Is it possible to rectify this by a software upgrade? Or is scanning just not possible via the USB connection? Any further light shed on this subject would be sincerely appreciated.

I also have an MP540 and was unable to setup the printer while connected to my AEBS. It could connect but the MP540 is brand new and was not available as a drop down choice. Thus I had to download a driver from the Canon site. This allowed me to get connected and setup and everything seemed fine.
However,as you say, only the printing function works. From what I can tell, this is not an Apple/Canon specific issue. It seems multi-functions just "cannot" operate normally when shared via routers. For now I just run a second USB cable over to the printer and switch it over when I want to scan. I intend to get a USB switch so I can just push a button to switch back and forth.
I too am curious if this is something that technically can be done via software. Perhaps somebody has written a utility to do this.
I should note, I though everything was fine with printing. However, it isn't, so I have started another thread because when I print various files (PDF's) they print at a zoom level and thus no longer fit properly on the page.

  • Ethernet or usb connection to airport express

I'm having problems when using the ethernet cable connection from my canon printer to the airport express device. I only see the device when I use a usb connection but need to have both. The usb printer port is a direct connection to my daughter's windows pc so I want to use the ethernet connection with the airport express so that i can use the printer with my mac. Can someone advise. I have a canon mx700.

I am having the same problem. I have an Airport Extreme 802.11n that is creating my wireless network. I have one HP printer connected to the USB port, which I can see fine and another connected to the ethernet. The printer connected to the ethernet is visible only to the computer connected to the Airport Extreme via ethernet. All of the computers connected wirelessly can not see the printer. How can I access this printer?

  • Canon Printers - Wireless Connection?

Many thanks for recent advice but still having probs (ie wireless connection does not work) as indeed I notice a fair few are.
The Manual refers to setting the WEP key to match the iMac's system now how can I access the iMac's WEP?  Do I need to do something about the security settings?
    Grateful for advice folks. Thanks.

Is that something you are being asked for in the operation panel on the printer?  In my experience, when you setup Wi-Fi through the little screen on the printer, you select your Wi-Fi network and then enter the password.
In the Canon website, they have steps for the Canon Pixma MG3150, and  it says to enter the Wi-Fi settings on the operational panel in step 2: http://www.canon-europe.com/Support/Consumer_Products/products/Fax__Multifunctio nals/InkJet/PIXMA_MG_series/PIXMA_MG3150.aspx?faqtcmuri=tcm:13-813328&type=faq
There is also this article that relates to your version of the OS and your printer brand:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3575
The steps say to temporarily connect your printer so the drivers install, and when they are installed, you can disconnect the printer.  The printer will still be added in the System Preferences>Print and Fax panel when you connect it using the USB port, but you will have to remove it by highlighting it and pressing the minus sign (when it is added by connecting the USB port, it is looking for a USB connected printer.  We just want to connect it to have the drivers download).
Once those are installed and your printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network (by entering the settings in the operational screen), you should be able to then add it as a network printer by clicking the plus sign at the bottom left of the System Preferences>Print and Fax window.
    I hope that helps!
