Canon S95 raw performance slow.

I'm very happy that I can use raw files from my Canon S95 in Lightroom 3.3RC but the performance/speed of edits is very slow. As an example, full resolution raw files from my Canon 5D Mark II are about twice as fast to edit. Hopefully with the final version of Lightroom 3.3 the raw "engine" for the S95 will be optimized. Is this typical?

I would have expected the opposite as 5d photos are 21mp and the S95 are 10mp.
Probably best to raise this in the Lightroom forum during the beta testing.

  • Canon S95 raw/jpg question

Just purchased a S95 and have a question:
    1.  Lightroom has not updated to accept the S95 Raw images.  If I import jpg's, am I correct to assume that any changes to the jpg images in the Develop Mode does not deteriorate the image, only when I SAVE in jpg.  If I move the jpg to Photoshop and then SAVE in Tiff, then again, I would avoid any deterioration.  Am I correct?
    Thank you for your help!!!

Yes you are correct. All your Lightroom edits are stored in the catalog.
N.B. Jpegs are 8 bit so not much point in creating 16bit tiff to edit in Photoshop.
You could use canon dpp which came with your camera to create 8 or 16 bit tiffs from your raw files to process in photoshop. This would probably work better.

  • Canon s95 in 3.3 RAW aspect ratio

    Hi,
When I import Canon s95 in 3.3, RAW + JPEG with aspect ratio 3:2, I see the picture in 3:2 ratio.
Nevertheless, the RAW has the full info (4:3)
Is it possible to have it?
    Thanks

Unfortunately, Lightroom does not read settings made by other software.  This probably would not be a solution for you.  But I wanted to create a series of images that would display full screen on my HD TV, 16:9 aspect ratio.  I selected all the images and then made the crop on the first one with auto sync enabled.  Then I went through the images, approximately 250, and found that I only had to make positional adjustments on about 20 of them.  In my opinion, I saved a lot of time.

  • Canon S95 CR2 raw files not recognized

I just bought my wife a Canon S95 specifically because it could produce raw files. I just tried to import her first pictures using Lightroom 3.2 and CR2 files are not supported. Silly me I did not check the supported camera list. The S90 is there but not the S95. When do you think Adobe will get around to supporting this camera?

    Hi Amir
    >As suggested above, use ExifTools.  After downloading it, you can simply run (under windows):
thanks it worked great with a Mac as well, within terminal. I added overwrite to remove the original ( I had already made a copy)
exiftool "-CanonModelID=PowerShot S90" -overwrite_original  /Volumes/DRIVE2/CanonS95/folder1 (wherever your files are located)
here's a link to more exiftool info if anyone else wants to give this a try.

thanks for the info, is the process of adding new cameras very involved, or are the delays because of difficulty getting raw data from the manufacturers?

  • Canon s95 and g12 RAW file support???

Adobe has now updated Lightroom to include support for cr2 RAW files for the Canon S95 and G12.
An guesses how much longer for Apple to get its act together?

It's only a "release candidate" not a proper final release. Consider it an advanced beta. Adobe explain "release candidate" here:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/cameraraw6-3/
An guesses how much longer for Apple to get its act together?
Aye - no doubt the entire Aperture team is sitting back, playing games on their iPads, drinking coffee and generally skiving...
I know this is not the answer you want, but the simple answer is - patience. It will be here when it's here - that's the way it is.

  • Will Aperture 3.0.3 Convert RAW Files for My New Canon S95?

This camera was just released and, of course, isn't listed as being supported by Aperture. But, since it uses the same chip and processor as its predecessor, the S90, will Aperture recognize the S95's RAW images or do I have to wait for an update?

    Hi there!
To answer your question, as I've just received my S95, I tested importing RAW files into Aperture 3.0.3 (since that is the only way to be absolutely sure of its behavior).
So, Aperture 3.0.3 does NOT recognize the S95 RAW files (even though it shows the previews just fine).
Using ExifTool, I modified the CanonModelID tag to "PowerShot S90" and imported the file again, which worked just fine (which confirms the proposed solution).

  • Adobe photoshop elements 11 won't read my canon T5 raw CR2 files.

adobe photoshop elements 11 won't read my canon T5 raw CR2 files.
    why?
    need help!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Zach.
Sorry to say but Elements 12 came out several months before your camera. Adobe stops updating camera raw files for old software editions so that people have to buy new versions of the software when they get a new camera. It happened to me with LR3 when I got a new camera.
There are works rounds but they are a lot of extra steps and I think you would be converting the files to Some format other than RAW (tiff?) and which I am not sure will perform the same.
I think you just need to get a newer version of Elements.

but i did find it's amazing fast if use process 2003 or 2010
may i use like default the 2003 or 2010 ?
    how can i do it?
    thanks

but do you why 2010 is so slow compared to 2010 o 2003 ?
Just a suspicion:  Adobe is adding more and more compute-intensive functionality in the newer versions - for example image analysis that affects the way the PV2012 controls work - in anticipation of more and more powerful computers.  It's the normal way of things.
PV2012 seems to take about twice as long for me to complete a conversion than its predecessor.  But on my reasonably powerful computer that's the difference between 2 and 4 seconds - no problem, really.
I'm not sensing any difference in zoom speed.
everytime i load a canon raw file , it 's always to 2012!
    what 's wrong?
I don't know.  Photoshop CS5 comes up with PV2010 for me for images I haven't opened before, because that's what I saved my Camera Raw Defaults as.   I don't use the camera serial number/ISO specificity settings though.
Are you thinking of updating to Photoshop CS6?  I mention this because the released version is available today.

  • How to open canon 70D RAW files in Lightroom 4?

I have udated LR 4 to LR 4.4. It is supposed to open the newer Canon camera RAW files like the 70D. After updating with the download from Adobe LR ver. 4 will still not open the 70D RAW files. Does anyone have any suggestion? I must be doing something incorrect or am missing a step to the update. Thanks!

Not so, 70D support was added in Lightroom 5.2 ... Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
You have a choice to upgrade to Lightroom 5.6 or use the DNG convertor to convert the CR2 files to DNG and import.

  • Problem opening Canon 6D RAW even after upgrade today to PS CS6, WinXP-SP3

Givens: PS CS5>CS6 upgrade via $199USD download today, Non-CC upgrade. OS: WinXP SP3, camera: Canon 6D RAW (.CR2 files) and prefer to work on RAWs via Bridge.
Main goal: view Canon 6D files in Bridge, do adjustments, open via ACR into PS CS6 for further work.
My fav workflow for photos is: Bridge>ACR>PS. Just got a Canon 6D camera. So I updated to PS CS6 today and I did go through PS CS6 menu: help>update mechanism for all available updates, which was one round of ACR (and Bridge) updates, no more were offered. That brought ACR from v7.0.0.308 to v7.1.0.354--still could not see Canon 6D RAW files.  I went to Adobe.com and did manual download for ACR/DNG 7_3 but it did not enable Bridge to see my new camera files nor could I open the 6D .CR2 files in PS. Got PS error message about not recognizing filetype, update ACR, etc (which of course I just attempted). (Seems as through PS and Bridge did not know the ACR/DNG 7.3 "existed" IF that is a capability).
Then I tried to install ACR 8.7 from the "Fix your 6D RAW problems page" and got error messages in PS CS6 (perhaps bc I am on 32-bit system). Decided to start from scratch; uninstalled PS CS6 upgrade.
Secondary issue is: Now I have uninstalled PS CS6 and done System Restore to the point just after I downloaded PS CS6 upgrade. I want to reinstall but the installer fails. Support chat told me to download PS CS6 Upgrade again (doing that now), then reinstall.
Solve: Main problem: Be able to work on Canon 6D RAW through Bridge and ACR (prefer NOT to workaround with DNG if possible) At time of writing, as mentioned, I am downloading PS CS6 upgrade again, then plan to reinstall. If that works, then I need steps to update ACR so that I can work on 6D RAWs through Bridge and ACR. Please know that going through Photoshop's Help>Update mechanism does NOT seem to work. Do I need manual updates? If so, please direct me to the correct ones and order of procedure to execute this upgrade successfully.
    Many thanks, Paul

Yammer, thanks for the info about Camera Raw 8.3--that is my goal to load PS CS6 Upgrade and update to Camera Raw 8.3  Currently, I am having problems installing PS CS6 upgrade after uninstall. I have used Adobe CC Cleaner several times. It seemed to help, and the installer proceeded further with next try. Then I looked and there was no PS CS6 icons. I have done system restore also several times and am about to try again. It seems that my original PS CS6 upgrade installed, but when I tried to load ACR update, problems arose. Is there a way to remove recent version Camera Raw remnants from my computer. There is no Photoshop CS6 folder and further none for the CameraRaw.8bi for PS CS6. One possible clue: Yesterday I did two upgrades: 1) PS CS4>CS5 via box, then 2) PS CS5.CS6 on-line download non-CC. In one round of update, I saw that PS CS*5* Extension Manager failed to update. Seems unrelated but mentioned here for thoroughness.
Running ACR 8.3 in XP SP3 would be most useful and timely today as I have work to do. Many thanks, Paul

  • Horrible Adobe Chat Experience - How to open Canon 6D Raw files in CS5?

Hi, I just had an awful Adobe Chat experience with agent Dharma. I waited a very long time and when Mr. Dharma finally was able to help me, he wasn't able to. I was told that my product would no longer be supported and I couldn't be helped by Adobe because it was CS5. I was also sent to a faulty link. Anyway, I recently purchased a Canon EOS 6D and when I tried uploading my photos to Photoshop CS5 it said my RAW photos could not be supported. I followed the appropriate links for support and help.
My CS5 is updated, the Adobe Bride is updated. The extension for the photos is CR2 and they will not show the thumbnails in bridge and won't load in Photoshop. I need help. Now, I am hoping Adobe will support it's product and customer.

As each new camera comes out, Adobe have to write the code that enables Camera RAW to work with its RAW files.  It is nrealistic to expect them to keep doing this for all previous versions of Photoshop.  The Canon 6D needs ACR7.3 which Photoshop CS6

    You have several alternatives.
As an owner of CS5 you can take up the BUndle deal at $10 a month.
You can download the free DNG conversion software, and convert your CR2 files to DNG which CS5 can read.
You can buy Lightroom 5, oir even Lightroom 4 (if you can still find a copy)
I'd go with the Bundle deal.  There is a lot more to CC than reading Canon 6D RAW files.

  • Adobe Lightroom 5.7 does not recognize Canon 60D raw files. I have Camera Raw plugin 8.7 installed. Is there solution?

Neither Bridge CS6 or Lightroom 5.7 can recognize Canon's raw file (Canon Camera 60D).
This only started a few months ago without any change that I made to the system
    Any clues?

Is this only when reading CR2 files on the camera memory card or also for CR2 files that were previously imported to your hard drive (i.e. ALL of your 60D CR2 files)?
LR 5.7.1 is only at Camera Raw 8.7. so OK. What Bridge, PS, and OS versions are installed? In Bridge go to Help> About Bridge
From inside Bridge launch any raw file and check the ACR version:

  • Can't open canon g16 raw files.  I have updated to Adobe camera raw 8.2 and am working with PS CS6.

Here is my issue, I can't open the Raw files from my new Canon G16.  I have run all the Photoshop updates and even installed the Camera raw 8.2 update but still cannot open my raw files.  The will open in Canons digital photo professional program so I know they are not broken files.  I have even installed the DNG converter and they will not even open with that.  What am I doing wrong?  I bought this camera specifically for the ability to shoot in raw.  My canon 60d raw files work fine.

Why on Earth did you upgrade only to ACR 8.2 ?
The current version of ACR is ACR 8.4.  You should ALWAYS update to the latest version.  Once a camera model is supported, it will be supported in all subsequent releases of ACR.
Beside new camera support, each ACR update contains any number of unannounced, unheralded bug fixes, improvements and enhancements.
What is the exact version of your OS and of your Photoshop CS6? For instance, if you're on a Mac, you should be running Photoshop CS6 13.0.6.  I can't remember offhand what the latest version for CS6 is.
Did you install ACR correctly.  ACR 8.2 should work for your camera (but update ACR anyway).  What version shows up when yo go to About Plug-in… > Camera Raw.
You of course need to relaunch Photoshop, maybe even reboot your machine, and then Purge the Cache in Bridge.
