Canon Scanner LIDE 210

I have been using a Canon  LIDE 210 scanner with no trouble for some time.  Now sometimes the scanner light does not light up and I get several dark, or black, pages in my scans. I have re installed the software but it still happens
If I scan 5 or 6 pages I might get 2 good ones and the others black.
Scanner is about 4 years old.  Do I need a new scanner ?

This topic is far from "Windows 7 Hardware Compatibility " topic, because your scanner has worked for some time.
I am afraid the you have reached the end of life of your scanner and new scanner is an only option here. Hope this statement is not true one.

I updated to Photoshop CC 2014 and now it won't recognize my Canon Scanner LiDE 210.
Is there a fix for this? It worked with CS6 and CC just fine.

Did you turn off the "show transform controls" option in the move tool?
It sounds like you were using that previously.
And you can always transform by using the Free Transform command (command/control T).

  • Update Re: Using Canon LiDE 210 with OS X 1.6.8

    Hello,
I've read some older threads regarding this discussion but they must be closed since I couldn't add a comment.  So, I thought it would be best to open a new one.  I apologize if I'm treading old ground.
Here's my setup:  MacBook Pro (mid-2010), Mac OS X v10.6.8 Snow Leopard, Safari 5.1.2.  I needed a basic scanner, did research and everything looked good, so I bought a Canon CanoScan LiDE 210 scanner.  All I need is to be able to scan documents (minimal graphics) to the MacBook, preferably in PDF format.  Not really interested in scanning photos etc.
I just want to be careful and would like some clarification, please.  So regarding installation, I've gotten three "recommendations/methods":
    1) With the purchased Scanner, included was installation CD with instructions.
    2) Emailed Canon Support and was told to download the latest driver and the MP Navigator EX from their website instead.
    3) Read and referenced Apple Support Article HT3669 , which has been updated recently - February 15th, 2012.
Now, step #3 is my preferred selection, since it comes from Apple Software Update and the article lists the LiDE 210 as supported.
I also noticed on the other thread (that I could not comment on), that PAHU commented:
I have the LiDE200 and it works fine with Image Capture and Preview. The driver was included with one of the Canon updates hosted via Apple and part of Software Update. Checking the [latest Canon update|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#canon] hosted by Apple, the LiDE210 and LiDE700F are both included as supported scanners.
This sounds exactly what I want to do for installation and use (Image Capture and Preview).
So before mucking up anything, if possible, could someone please confirm the step #3 approach and the supporting comments. (PAHU ?!  ).
The way it appears, step #3 seems like minimal hassle, straightforward, and the best way to go.  Also, do I really need this "MP Navigator EX", if I have Image Capture and Preview?  I would prefer to avoid as much third party SW as possible.
I apologize for the lengthy post and thanks in advance for the help!

    Nice to read that it is all working. In response to the questions;

I would love to have Adobe Acrobat Pro but funds won't allow it.  You mentioned TWAIN based (Adobe Acrobat Pro) and making PDF's.  What is the difference in creating a scanned PDF file via Image Capture vs creating one with Adobe Acrobat Pro?  Or another way to ask is, what does the TWAIN driver do that the ICA doesn't?  I googled TWAIN but got lost pretty quick.  Sorry if that is a dumb question...
A PDF created by Image Capture is not a text searchable PDF. It is basically an image file (it is usually a TIFF with a Postscript header). So if you wanted to locate some line of text on the page, you would not have the ability to do so. In contrast, a PDF created in Acrobat will be text searchable, as the software will do character recognition (aka OCR). So if you wanted the means to locate content within each document, then you should OCR the scanned document. An Acrobat Pro will do this on the fly as you scan the document. Using Image Capture, you would have to scan the document first and then use some OCR package to convert the scanned image.
For the record, MP Navigator has an OCR function, but it is not as accurate as Acrobat Pro's version.

One last question (I think - ).  I'm still running Snow Leopard OS X v10.6.8. but probably will go to Lion soon.  It looks like the Apple Support Doc says that the ICA driver I got through SW update will work with Lion OS X v10.7, so will the driver "disappear" when I do the Lion upgrade, causing me to have to setup the scanner again?
The driver won't disappear if you upgrade. The ICA driver package available from Apple is for 10.6 and 10.7. But it is sometimes advisable to remove the printers and scanner in 10.6 before you upgrade, or at least ensure you have the latest versions available before the 10.7 update. Given that you have just done this installation then you have the latest drivers so there should be no issue with the scanner after the Lion update.

  • Problems with using Canon LiDE 210 and OSX 10.7.4

I am getting nowhere with installing the Canon LiDE 210 scanner software on my 2010 MBP. All I get when I try to scan is "insufficient memory". I can scan using Image Capture and with the trial VueScan software so the problem looks as if it is something to do with the Canon software or the way that it installs on the MBP. Has anyone else had a similar problem or can anyone suggest a fix? Many thanks

Hellooo, I realise this thread is a year old and yet I'm having some real difficulty, hopefully this will fall on someones ears...
Firstly I have a mac mini bought recently and running on Mountain Lion 10.8.3 I tried downloading what is apparently the most up to date drvier and mp navigator for use with the CanoScan LiDE 210 meaning, that both the driver and mp navigator are compatible with Mountain Lion. Here is the following link I used that was forwarded to me by Canon:
    http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/contents/ASIA/EN/0100434402.html
    http://support-asia.canon-asia.com/contents/ASIA/EN/0200153502.html
I install both of the downloads, plug in the scanner, and nothing... no noise, no beep nothing to say that it is on. I try and open the scanner through system preferences-printer/scanner-canoscan icon yet I am then presented with the message; "failed to open a session on this device"
Strange, I call canon back and they do not know what else to suggest apart from all the usual trouble shooting, the type that is very patronising and annoying... did you click the icon and press scan, did you click the install button after downloading the software... the sort of thing that might otherwise result in the beating, of ones own face with the phone
At the end of this call, and after forwarding me a couple more useless links to unworkable downloads they say that it must be the product, and that I should contact the seller for a replacement.
So I do, I contact Amazon, I get my replacement and voila, exactly the same problem.
I even try getting it going using my mbp which is on snow leopard, which means I can use the installation disc that it is packed with it, it makes a noise, it sounds like its turning on but then when I click "open scanner" ... nothing, no option to scan, no acknowledgement of the device other than the icon itself in system preferences.
Does anyone have any experience of this issue, does anyone know how I might resolve it?
    Many thanks,
    Jeff

  • Canon LiDE 210 insufficient memory with Lion

My LiDE 210 scanner which has worked in the past using OSX10.7 but it now says "insufficient memory" each time I launch MP Navigator EX 4.0.
Canon advised me to open MP Navigator and select 'View and Use', where it says 'Specify the scanned location', select a different scanner location to see if this resolves the issue. I am unable to do this as I get the "insufficient memory" message immediately I double click on the Canon software. If this did not resolve the issue, they recommended uninstalling and re-installing the latest drivers, which I have done but with no solution to the problem. I haved repaired permissions, checked printers in the library and there does not seem to be anything missing or conflicting. I cannot find any reference to TWAIN in the Library and finally the basic scanner functions are available using Image Capture.
    Any ideas most welcome. Thanks

The scanner driver file is installed in HD > Library > Image Capture > TWAIN Data Sources. Here you will see the LiDE210.ds file. This package file contains information used by the scanner and removing the scanner entry in Print & Scan does not remove this file. You could trash this file (make sure you remove the entry from Print & Scan first) and then run the v17.7.1 scanner driver installer again.
If MP Navigator still fails it could actually be this application rather than the scanner driver at fault. Note that Image Capture uses a different driver called an ICA. So to test that the TWAIN scanner driver is okay you would need a TWAIN compatible application. And one such application is VueScan. Install this and see if you can scan without any error. If you can then it indicates the issue is with MP Navigator. If VueScan also fails then you do have a scanner driver issue.

  • Will a CanoScan LIDE 210 scanner work with OSX 10.11 beta?

I am testing OSX 10.11 Beta release and happen to need a scanner.  I am asking to find out if the CanoScan Lide 210 will work with this version of OSX?

Any luck? I upgraded to OSX 10.11 and sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt.

  • CanoScan Lide 210 Help

    Hi,
Just purchased the 210 to go with my new iMac 10.9 OS and are having problems. I don't have a CD drive.
I downloaded from the Canon website the following,
    ICA Driver Ver.3.1.0
LIDE 210 Scanner Driver Ver. 17.7.1a
Software : MP Navigator / Quick Menu / Solution Menu
Documents scan okay but nothing happens - can't print / e-mail / PDF etc.
I've obviosly mucked something up and not being tech savvy I would appreciate someone pointing me in the right direction.

Thank you, Paul, for looking into my issue. The canon support person did have me to install the latest ICA driver from their site and it didn't help the problem. I really like the canoscan lide 210, even using it in mp navigator. I would love to be able to use it from image capture & preview and print & scan...without having to either restart the computer or unplug the usb cable, or as I mentioned, using the scanner in navigator first, and then switching over to the other applications, it works fine. For me, the issue is the scanner is D.O.A. after coming out of sleep. I removed the twain driver to see if the image capture would work on the ICA driver. No good. I truly believe that this scanner will just not "wake from sleep" in the aforementioned applications. I asked another Canon tech guy if I got a "powered" scanner would it work after sleep on my iMAC lion 10.7.3. He just didn't know. My hp printer works fine, after sleep, from its usb port, using the hp driver. My scanner works fine, after sleep, using the mp navigator driver, on the usb port. My problem is the ica driver won't work on the usb port for my scanner, after sleep.
Thank you again, for looking into this issue. Hopefully, you will have a good suggestion, even if it means purchasing an epson scanner, which is AC powered.

  • Image Capture- Canon Scanner no longer appears

I had been using my old Canon Canoscan LiDE 60 with Snow Leopard's "Image Capture" app.
I then got "creative" and installed the driver and scan app from the Canon web site which I discovered will not work with Snow Leopard. When I went back to "Image Capture" it now would not see the scanner either.  So I ran the Canon "Uninstall Driver" (from their site) and downloaded and installed that latest Printer/Scanner Canon drivers from Apple. Image Capture still will not "see" the scanner.
    Any suggestions?
    OSX 10.6.7

Solved my own problem... the CanoScan Toolbox software needs to be installed PRIOR TO the CanoScan driver install, just the opposite of what I would expect.

  • Getting Canon CanoScan Lide 20 to work with 10.4.10 and 10.4.11

When I upgraded to the latest version of Tiger 10.4.10 and .11 ... My Canon Lide 20 which had been working perfectly for years just stopped working. For Macintosh OSX users (including intel Macintosh computers) who have problems installing Canon scanner software, including older models. Please try the following steps to successfully install your scanner driver software:
    Short Fix:
    1. Use the "Deldrv" program to remove previously unsuccessfully installed driver(s). The "Deldrv" uninstaller can be found on the Canon website at the bottom of the Canon scanner driver pop up window that you access to get the drivers for your scanner.
    2. Use the "Find?" under the File menu (command-F) or use Spotlight (command spacebar) to find the folder "CFMSupport". Select this folder (don't open it), and use the 'Get info' command in the File menu (command-I) to open information about the Ownership and Permissions of the folder. Click on the arrow beside 'Ownership and Permissions' so it points downwards, then click on the arrow beside 'Details' so you can see the details. Click on the padlock icon so it is unlocked. Then set owner to your user name, set the Group to admin, and set access for all users to Read & Write.
    3. Reinstall the CanoScan Toolbox first, then the scanner drivers from the Canon website or your CD, restart your computer."
Uninstalling I think made all the difference. I hadn't done that before. Thanks to Robert Loney for this. I was about to purchase VueScan which also worked... but he saved me $49 buckswhich is more than I paid for the Lide 20 5 years ago.
I also lost my external hard drivers when I upgraded to 10.4.10. never fixed that problem... just went and returned my Western digital Mybooks (both premium and pro additions) (I had been dealing with customer service and returning the ones they kept shipping me for months). I got a Maxtor 750 GB one from Circuit city and it has worked like a charm! I wonder if there was something I needed to uninstall to get that to work as well.
I hope this is helpful to everyone else out there.

To add to Ryan's posting, anyone in the UK/Europe may need to access the Canon US website (http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDet ailTabAct&fcategoryid=351&modelid=6624) to obtain the latest version of the scangear driver 7.0.1.1X and Canoscan software 4.1.3.0. Judging by their file dates these versions appear to have been released in 2007. The Canon Europe site has the older version 7.0.1.0 of the driver.
The tips should may also apply to the LIDE 30 and N670 and other scanners which appear to use the same software.
On my system the permissions on the CFMsupport folder allowed update of the software without changes so you may also find that updating the drivers to these versions is sufficient, and you don't need to bother with the permissions changes.
I have experienced problems with the scan gear software not setting the folder to receive the images correctly. At one point in the scan process - after clicking the scan button - it offered an open file dialogue box rather than a choose folder dialogue. I found that if selected any file in the folder and clicked open the problem seemed to go away.

  • How do I get Quick menu to recognize both my Canon printer & Canon scanner?

When I installed my printer, the settings in Quick menu for my scanner were wiped out. How do I get Quick menu to recognize both devices?

    Hi DGA,
In order for scanner options for both models to show up, you must have both the MP Navigator for the LiDE 210 installed and the My Image Garden for the MG3220 installed.  Please make sure you have both by going to your Start screen, then type in either MP Navigator or My Image Garden into the start screen.  Once you start typing it will search your computer for those programs and will display an icon if installed.

  • Canon scanner keeps disconnecting

    Hi Folks,
I'm running OS X 10.6.8 and trying to connect my Canon Canoscan Lide 500f via Image Capture in order to scan a document.  For years this has been effortless and worked a treat.  Today however, I connect the scanner to my MacBook Pro, Image Capture recognises it and the application looks like it's about to run a preview scan, but before anything happens on the scanner it seems to drop out, and seemingly tell me that the scanner is no longer connected to the computer.
Everything is up to date as far as I know.  Canoscan toolbox doesn't seem to like it either so I'm at a bit of a loose end.
Any advice is much appreciated.  Thanks in advance!
    Gary

Given that Image Capture uses a different driver to CanoScan Toolbox, then it would suggest that the connection between the scanner and the Mac is the cause rather than it being a driver issue.
First thing I would do is open System Profiler (Applications > Utilities) and select the USB entry in the left column. The top right pane will show all the USB busses in the Mac and what devices are connected to them. Do you see the scanner? If no, then check the USB cable and maybe try another cable. If you do see it, then at least the cable is okay and it could be a driver issue.
So here is a link to the LiDE 500F page from Canon. You will see the DelDrv utility and the scanner driver. Run the DelDrv utility to remove the driver and then install the 11.2.5 driver to see if that helps.

  • Canon Scanner & TWAIN File

Greetings. I just received a Canon LiDE 500F scanner from the Apple store. This thing was was a snap to set-up, but whenever I try to scan I get the following message: "Can't find TWAIN library in your system." I have installed, uninstalled and reinstalled the software about 6 times. No help. Any ideas? I'm trying to finish a Mothers Day project and time is of the essence. Thanking you in advance. - Regards. - Frank

Then consider, "Did I install the application and drivers in the order and manner that Canon requires?" And, "Did I repair permissions afterwards to insure that everything that went into /Library/Application Support and elsewhere have the right ownership?"
there should be a folder in /Users/Shared with your Canon support and button folders.
The fact that VueScan can't talk to the scanner would seem to indicate that there is a setup and configuration problem.
USB cables that work for other purposes, I've found, don't always work with Canon (and I like Canon scanner so much I've bought a couple LiDE models).
