Canon scanner/printer device mess (Pixma MP140)

EDIT: Beware. Venting ahead!
Hi, I have wasted my free morning trying to print one jpeg and still have not done so.
I am unfortunate enough of having to deal with a Canon Pixma MP140 and (while the stupid
low spec scanner I don't need now gets detected out of the box) the printer will not show
up!
It is a classical usb connection, nothing fancy. cupsd is working and everything is fine except
of  the obliviously infuriating messages.log which says
Aug 20 12:45:52 localhost kernel: [ 1730.699983] usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number 9 using ehci_hcd
Aug 20 12:45:52 localhost kernel: [ 1730.860734] usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 9 if 1 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x04A9 pid 0x172B

Aug 20 12:45:54 localhost kernel: [ 1733.136488] usb 1-1: usbfs: interface 1 claimed by usblp while 'colord-sane' sets config #1
So, yes? What? the printer is there but Cups can't see it? No /dev/ entry, no listing in any
printer administration tool (tried the gnome one as well) the computer just tells me the
damn thing isn't even connected? WTF?
I've checked the CUPS wiki, some canon printer entries none seems to help.
Ohh and before anybody suggests it, yes I have tried to switch the printer on/off or both, restart the machine (what is this? Windows?), reconnect on different usb device, offer a goose to the gods and sing to it, including all possible combinations. Nothing helped.

There are Linux drivers from Canon for that printer.  Likely it can be made to work, but it might require some effort with the official Canon drivers.

I've gotten my Canon printer MG8210 to work with the official Canon drivers using the method below.

  • I have a Canon Pixma MP500 scanner printer, is there a driver that can be loaded that is compatible with OSX v10.9.4?

I have a Canon Pixma MP500 scanner printer, is there a driver that can be loaded that is compatible with OSX v10.9.4?

Thanks, PAHU, for providing the Australian site for the Canon driver.  I have an MP500 and it still seemed to print fine after I downloaded Yosemite.  However, as others have reported, the MP Navigator no longer performed normally in scanning. The "Save As" keys didn't align and therefore didn't work but one could still scan using an alternative method ("Scan with scanner driver" button).
In any case, my hard drive subsequently failed on this 2010 27" iMac and when it was replaced the tech installed Yosemite 10.10.1.  Just tried printing this evening and it wouldn't.  Advised I needed undefined "software." Got various error messages.  Went to Google and read this and downloaded that to no avail.  Tried the Gutenprint driver but it too didn't work. Latest error was "stopping job because the scheduler could not execute a filter."  Had no clue what that meant!  System info listing for the printer (under About this Mac, System Info) lacked any reference to permissions or a printer utility version (but I didn't notice or know significance of omissions).  Finally I downloaded from the Australian site, just the print driver 10.51.2.  The printer then printed!!!  (The MP Navigator scanner remains flawed but works by clicking "Scan with scanner driver" rather than the normal way.)  I'm holding my breath that things will continue to work.
Thanks again, PAHU, for your help, and Greg and Pam and Andy too!

  • Canon Pixma MP470 all in one scanner printer "scan fail"

I found earlier posts that described similar problems as mine, they were marked as answered. I continue to have problems even tho I have followed earlier instructions from other members i.e. PAHU.
I am trying to use a Canon MP470 printer connected by USB cable to my iMac. I don't use it much and it has worked unreliably in the past. Today all scans fail except one which to me would mean that I have installed the correct driver for OSX 10.6. I am not sure if I have deleted the old preset and created a new preset for the new driver correctly. I hate to say it but I am a little unsure how to go about this. I don't remember having as much trouble before I upgraded to OS 10.6.3.
If anyone has some suggestions or instructions, I sure would appreciate them.

Okay, the Presets in this post did refer to the Printer preset. The poster had a black and white preset they had created with a previous OS and was trying to use it on Snow Leopard, which did not work because the printer driver was different on the new OS. This does not apply to the scanner portion of your MP470.
As for checking the scanner driver version, this is not an easy task. But the new driver installation typically overwrites the previous version. If you are not sure which driver install you did last, I suggest you run this v13.9 installer again. to ensure it is what you are using.
I would also suggest you have MP Navigator v2.04 or later installed, as earlier versions may not be that compatible with Snow Leopard. Again, running the newest version of MP Navigator installer should overwrite an older version.
If you have the latest MP Navigator and it is still not scanning correctly then please reply. At least you now know about Image Capture so if you did find that MP Nav stopped working, you are not totally stumped

  • My new Canon Pixma 7250 wireless printer can no longer find my wireless network. My MAC is, Yosemite 10.10.2. I've run diagnostics and Canon LAN printer setup routine many time. Is there a solution? Can anyone help?

My new Canon Pixma 7250 wireless printercan no longer find my wireless network. (It worked fine until recently) I have a Yosemite 10.10.2. I've run diagnostics and the Canon LAN printer setup routine many times. Is there a solution? Can anyone help?

Turn of the MG and unplug the power cord. Leave it off for about a minute and then reconnect the power cord and turn the power back on. Wait while the device attempts to reconnect to your wireless network - the blue wifi symbol on the MG will flash and then stay on once it has connected. If it keeps flashing then you will have to reconnect the MG to your wireless access point via the control panel on the MG.

  • Canon MP560 prints wirelessly ok but scanner is not recognized

Something is going on with the latest Mac OS. Seems to be only with Intel Macs only.Image capture does not recognize either scanner I have.(Canoscan 8400F also).
I see others have broken connections other than Canon also.
Has Apple given an official release about this problem? Some have workarounds that are at programming level, but i'm not going anywhere near that fix. And Twain Sane isn't much of a fix as it doesn't give full capability of scanning like the original program used to run the scanner.I don't want to go through a whole number of steps to get it to work.I don't have Photoshop to make a workaround.
Here is what my friend had to do to get his new and old one to work:
"I am okay now, as I have the older CS3 Photoshop now sitting next to the CS4 version, and I've got the older one running in Rosetta compatibility mode and this lets me run the Canon scanner driver in full 16 bit colour mode. If I only wanted 8 bit colour files, I could just use the Canon utility but for working with restorations of old images, you want 16 bit greyscale (for old B&W pictures) or 16 bit colour mode."

In order to use Image Capture for scanning via USB from either Canon device you may need to update the Canon ICA drivers included with Snow Leopard. The Canon v1.5.1 update can be downloaded via the following link.
    http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0100213301.html
This will update the Canon IJScanner1 package located within the core Image Capture > Devices folder.
For the wireless connected MP560 I don't believe Image Capture can be used. But you can use Preview or even the MP560 Scanner queue in Print & Fax. You will need to install the Canon MP560 scanner driver listed below.
    http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0100204302.html
With regards to using Preview, to see the networked scanner you will have to click on File > Import from Scanner > Included Networked Devices. Then when you click on File > Import from Scanner again, the MP560 should be shown as an available device.
Has Apple given an official release about this problem?
I don't believe there is a known problem with OS X 10.6.4 Image Capture so therefore I would say there is no official release from Apple.
Some have workarounds that are at programming level, but i'm not going anywhere near that fix.
I would suggest that the workaround you have seen, especially at a programming level, would be meant for older models of scanners that have no official support from the vendor. But this is not needed for your scanners as Canon has provided drivers that function correctly on 10.6 for the majority of their scanners and AIO's.
And Twain Sane isn't much of a fix as it doesn't give full capability of scanning like the original program used to run the scanner.
There is no need to SANE. The following link is the Canon provided scanner driver for your CS8400F.
    http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0900334701.htm
I don't want to go through a whole number of steps to get it to work.I don't have Photoshop to make a workaround.
Like SANE, Photoshop is not needed. I am scanning over a wireless network at home with my new MP990 using the Canon MP990 scanner queue without a problem.
And my LiDE200 connected via USB to my Mac works fine also.

  • HT3669 iEPP, Easy Photo Print, App not 'detecting' my Canon MX870 printer/scanner.

Downloaded the iPod Touch iEPP Airprint app for printing wirelessly to my approved, Canon MX870 printer/scanner and the app can't detect it.
    Thanks

I have been having the same issue with the Canon iEPP app not detecting the printer using an iPhone 4S, 5S and iPad Air.  I was on the phone with Canon IT support and the devices and apps can communicate with the printer when I type in the printer IP address in the Safari browser.
I have Comcast Xfinity for interner and have a Linksys Wireless-G router.
I tried about 5 different free app which support my Canon MX870 printer and none can detect the printer.
    Any suggestions?

  • Is there a way to import the photo's in my iPhoto (9.2.1) into a folder so that I can use the Canon Solutions Menu EX software to print photos on Pixma MG5220 printer

Is there a way to import the iPhoto (9.2.1) database of photos into a folder so that I may use Canon's Solution Menu EX software to print on a Pixma MG5220 ? I do not want to remove the existing photo's from iPhoto but transfer them to a folder that the Canon software will recognize.

You Export photos from iPhoto -
In iPhoto File menu ==> export - create the folder on the desktop - then use them as you wish

  • I can't see my Canon MG5220 printer... Initially I was getting "there is a communication error" so I rebooted everything, reset the printing system, reinstalled the driver and still NO luck! It seems to see the scanner, but never the printer. HELP!

I can't see my Canon MG5220 printer... Initially I was getting "there is a communication error" so I rebooted everything, reset the printing system, reinstalled the driver and still NO luck! I see no printers available in the Print & Scan area. If I click "+" it seems to see the scanner, but never the printer. HELP!

The printer component uses a different protocol to advertise itself on the network compared to the scanner component and it can take several seconds longer to appear after the scanner has.
That said, with the introduction of AirPrint, the MG should be seen as Bonjour Multifunction in the Add Printer window, as shown below.
Selecting this Bonjour Multifunction entry will create a printer using AirPrint and a scanner using the iCA driver.
So do you see the MG5220 as Bonjour Multifunction or just Bonjour?

  • I cannot get Adobe Acrobat 7 to recognize my Canon MG5420  printer/scanner.

Adobe recognized my Canon MG5420 printer/scanner until I had to install new printer drivers. Now it indicates "None" when I try to find the connected scanner. How do I connect the printer to Adobe Acrobat 7? The printer works with all other programs. Thank you.

Having to install new printer drivers tends to imply going to a new OS.
The Acrobat 7 product family is not compatible with any contemporary OS.
For that you'd need the current release of Acrobat.
    Be well...

  • HT204135 Since I upgraded to OS X 10.8 my Canon MP480 printer scanner prints OK but the Solutions Menu icon for scanning is crashing every time I try to scan. Any solutions? Thanx

Since I upgraded to OS X 10.8 my Canon MP480 printer scanner prints OK but the Solutions Menu icon for scanning is crashing every time I try to scan. Any solutions?

I had to contact Canon Tech Support and had to re load the driver softwear using the OS X 10.7 choice, since the 10.8 choice is not there yet. Also had to download the opener and after 45 minutes I had solved the problem. The steps are too many to go into all the details but that is the genral idea. It should work for others.

  • MP Navigator 3.0 scanner isn't working with Canon mp510 printer

    Hello,
I'm using a Canon mp510 printer/scanner, using the MP Navigator software 3.0 and whenever I click on the scanner, the program shuts down completely. I have already tried to uninstall, reinstall, search for updates (and 3.0 is the latest one I have found), etc...and nothing is fixing the problem. I just recently updated to Snow Leopard and only started having the problems at that time. I know the problem is not the printer, as the computer recognizes it when I used Image Capture, but I would prefer to stick to MP Navigator and am frustrated nothing is working. Any help or suggestions?!?!

Canon Australia has [MP Navigator v3.04|http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0900172801.html]. If you don't already have this version (assuming your 3.0 could be 3.04) then install this latest one.
To use MP Navigator you also need to have the [Canon MP510 Scanner Driver v12.13.12|http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0900218401.html]
Note that Image Capture uses a different scanner driver that is included with Snow Leopard.

Have you downloaded the approriate Snow Leopard drivers for that printer? Make sure you get the appropriate and latest MP Navigator, as you start scans from the computer, not the all-in-one.  Get them from http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_s eries/pixma_mp830#DriversAndSoftware

  • Macbook Air: connecting Canon Office All-In-One PIXMA MX330 printer

I purchased my Macbook Air a few months ago, and I selected theCanon Office All-In-One PIXMA MX330 printer to go along with it. I have tried to install the printer a few times in various ways. Initially, I used my Macbook Air superdrive to attempt to load my new printer with the included disk. However, installation requires that the printer be connected to the Macbook via USB. Since the superdrive was occupying my only USB, I tried to connect my printer wirelessly with another computer. The laptop I used was not a Mac, and I simply could not get his computer to recognize the disk for my Macbook. So I tried something else; I borrowed my school libraries USB splitter in a last attempt to connect them both to my Macbook Air at the same time. However the superdrive does not react when not directly connected to the computer...
In short, I cannot find a way to connect my Canon Office All-In-One PIXMA MX330 printer to my Macbook Air.
    Help?

Connect the SuperDrive to the computer, use the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to create an image of the installation disk, disconnect the SuperDrive, plug in the printer, and install the software from the image.

  • Canon scanner not working with MacBook Pro.

I wonder if anyone is able to help. I recently bought a Canon MG5550 Printer/Scanner and I am having trouble with scanning. When I press the scan button on the printer nothing happens, not evening a warning message. I have tried using a cable and this hasn't improved the sitation. When I go onto Preview, I can select "Import from Canon MG5550 Series" under "File" but I get a message saying that the software for this device hasn't been downloaded, even though it has. I notice that on this page the MG5550 isn't recognised, and I wonder id this could explain the sitation http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US#canon-inkjet. Anyone know any way around this?
    Thanks in advance!
