Canon sd40pink camera and Iphoto

My husband wants to buy me an sd40pink camera for xmas. I want to make
sure that I am happy with not only the digital camera, but also with the
interfacing experience to my intel imac--which, today, for photos, only has
iphoto (no other software). I've read what I can from the Apple discussions
as well as what little I can find on the Canon web site. I have OS Tiger 10.4.8
Does anyone have any experience with imac OS 10.4.8, latest iphoto and
the sd40?
The only experience I have had was helping a visiting friend use my imac
to upload her Nikon digital pictures. Once I downloaded the Nikon software,
and "pulled" the pictures in from my imac, (versus pushing them in from
the camera), it worked great. Then I could import her pictures into iphoto. The best I can tell, this isn't how the Canon works. True?

It should just work if you plug it in - keep the camera on, set it to Play mode (as if you were going to view photos on the camera's screen) plug it into your iMac's USB port. iPhoto will launch and present you with an Import button. Click it, and get all the photos downloaded to iPhoto.
Disconnect and you're done. That's it.

  • Canon EOS camera and iPhoto does not download photos

after i recently updated Yosemite, my EOS digital camera no longer downloads photos. The camera shows in the device section and the main page show loading but nothing happens. the Camera used to just download automatically. Now nothing

that is not an option for me. I purchased this camera to do the things i wanted to do, it worked up on Dec 6 and after i updated Yosemete, it no longer downloads that photos.
Old Toad's recommendation was not just meant as work-around, but first of all it is a test to see if your problem is caused by the camera, cable, card, or by the recent software update.  Sometimes it simply may seem a problem of a software update, if problems are starting right after the update.
It would really be good to check, if only iPhoto cannot import the photos or no Apple application at all, also, to serif the problem is not caused by your particular card or a corrupted file on that card.
We have no access to your equipment, so we cannot test it for you.

I am a novice. I have a few thousand iPhotos stored on Dropbox. But now I have a Canon T5i camera and want to get more involved in photography. I want to open a Lightroom and Photoshop account. I have a Windows desktop and an iPad. Will I have any compatibility issues with PC and Mac? Can I store my photos in Lightroom and eliminate my Dropbox account? Thanks.

You shouldn't have any compatibility issues. But you don't store images "in" Lightroom. Lightroom simply points to wherever the images are on your system. You might like to watch a few videos that can help you understand how Lightroom works.

  • I have a canon D70 camera and I can't download my raw files to elements 11 or lightroom 4

I have a canon D70 camera and I can't download my raw files to elements 11 or lightroom 4

If you don't use the DNG Converter to create DNGs from your raw files, then you'll need to purchase LR 5 to us LR with your camera that is newer than LR4; however, there is something you can do for PSE11:
ACR 8.3 will work with PSE11 to open 70D files, but there is no installer, so you have to be a little devious to get things to all work.  You also need to be on a Windows 7 or 8 since ACR 8.3 supposedly doesn't work on Vista.  I should also say that the process outlined below does work on my Windows 7 64-bit computer, but I also have PS-CS6 and PS-CC installed on it, so it is possible that ACR 8.3 is dependent on something that wouldn't exist on a computer with only PSE installed on it, but someone else will have to confirm that.
I was able to get 70D files to open in ACR 8.3 on PSE11 by doing the following:
Download the ACR 8.3 for Windows update for PS-CC via the direct download link on the Adobe Blog:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2011/03/keeping-photoshop-up-to-date.html#notconnected
Unzip this downloaded setup.zip to a folder somewhere.
Inside the files from that zip is a folder called payloads \ AdobeCameraRaw8.0All-031213015928.  Note that this is the folder without x64 in the path.  PSE11 is a 32-bit program so we need the 32-bit version of the plug-in.
Inside that folder is another ZIP called Assets1_1.zip so unzip it somewhere.
Inside Assets1_1.zip there is a file called 1003.  This is the largest file in that zip and is the plug-in you need.
Copy this 1003 file into the existing PSE11 camera raw plug-in folder:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 11\File Formats or for a 32-bit Windows OS, into:  C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 11\File Formats
Rename the existing Camera Raw.8bi to Camera Raw.8bi_7 (in case something doesn't work and you need to rename it back, later).
    Rename 1003 to Camera Raw.8bi
After these steps you have the ACR 8.3 plug-in installed in PSE11 but not the camera and lens profiles, so install those by downloading and installing the DNG Converter 8.3:

  • Lego digital camera and iPhoto

My seven year old son just got a Lego camera for his birthday. I plugged it into my Mac (10.6.4) and iPhoto '09 and the Lego camera doesn't show up.
I don't see anything in the forums regarding the Lego camera and I don't see anything in Google about the Lego camera and iPhoto.
Has anyone else gotten their 3MP Lego digital camera to work with iPhoto?

My guess is that the camera is not Mac-compatible. A lot of inexpensive digital cameras use proprietary software to access the disks on the camera; the software is always PC-only. My daughter had a Disney camera that had the same issue. You might be able to get it to work using Parallels to run the PC software, otherwise you could use Boot Camp to put Windows on your Mac and then copy the pictures over.

  • Kodak digital camera and iphoto

    Hello
I have a Kodak digital camera. When I connect it to my imac (osx 10.3 ilife 05) I photo comes up
Asks me if I want to import, and everything works fine except it never mounts on the desktop. I want to dome editing , copy back to the camera and then print photos on the Kodak printer.
    Thanks fred

I have that same camera but iPhoto was able to recognize it after downloading the firmware and Kodak EasyShare update. Does the computer recognize your camera at all, through another program like Image Capture? If so, then you might just need to go to iPhoto's preferences and check off the box about opening iPhoto (or any image application you prefer, like Photoshop) when the camera's plugged in. Good luck!
I seem to have the opposite problem on my system-- iPhoto now thinks my camera is always connected, even when it's unplugged and sitting in my bag.

  • Lost pictures when syncing from camera and iPhoto crashed.

I was syncing my photos (around 900), and iPhoto crashed. They are no longer on my camera and not on iPhoto. Any way to recover it?

    maybe
you can try Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database
you may be able to recover the phtos on the SD card using media recover
for the future a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos

  • Canon Powershot S50 and iPhoto issues

After doing some major searching of the discussion pages I am posting in order to get some help with my Canon S50 and iPhoto 5.0.4 (263).
When importing into iPhoto or from Canon's image viewer or from the card reader built into my printer (HP photosmart 7760) I have problems.
When using iPhoto to import I get an error message telling me that iPhoto can't read the files because they are either corrupt or in a format it can't read
Using the card reader or image viewer, I can get the files onto the computer, and can view previews of the files, which look fine. However when I try to open them in preview or any other software the photos are distorted and color "bars" cover the photos.
I try importing the same files using a 12 powerbook and it worked fine.
    Please help me!

  • Canon-programs can't find my Canon EOS camera, but iPhoto does

When trying to import pictures with my Canon apps, it won't find it, but iPhoto finds it. How come? Can I disable it from iPhoto in some way?

For questions about your Canon applications you'll need to consult their makers. As for iPhoto, if you don't want to use it just quit it. It has nothing to do with your Canon apps and what they do.
You can decide what apps should open automatically when you connect your camera in the iPhoto Preferences.

  • Crayola VGA camera and iphoto

My 6 yr. old son received for christmas a Crayola VGA Digital Camera. Now he leaves my alone. But the drivers are windows only, I have tried plugging it in hopping it would work, but to no avail, it will register in system profiler, but I can not read it or see it on the desk top. Has any one found away around this, is it at all possible to work with the Mac or do I need to get a intel mac and run windows so my son can use this Camera. Any help would appreciated

    Sam:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Have you tried using Image Capture (located in the Applications folder) to see if it can see the camera. If it does then you can use it to upload to a folder on the desktop and from there import into iPhoto.
If the camera has a removable memory card you can use a card reader to upload the photos. I doubt it it does but take a look.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Premiere element 7 and canon 550 camera

I recently bought the canon 550 camera and tried to open the video footage on premiere element 7 but was unable to do so - an error message popped -up saying '...codec not installed.' I have downloaded the latest dng and it works for converting the raw images but not the video. The video footage is currently on my hard drive. Am I uploading the footage incorrectly or is element 7 not up to date with the canon 550 camera?

Video from still cameras like this usually needs to be converted  --ideally to DV-AVIs -- before it can be used in Premiere Elements, as  we discuss in the FAQs to the right of this forum.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/415317?tstart=0
If  this video is an MPEG, you can convert it with MPEG Streamclip.
If  it is an MOV, you can convert it with Super or Quicktime Pro.

  • Does Apple have fix for the Canon Digital Camera issue and 4.7 update??

    Hi All,
does anyone have any info about a fix for the communication issues with canon digital cameras and PPC users who updated to 10.4.7?
I think it's sad that a machine peopole buy to use for graphics can no longer download picture from a digital camera after up-daing software, as Apple recommends........
Alos, what is the kernel fix....?? any ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Bill Anderson

    Hi,
    What apple are you running?
I have a Digital Rebel XT with PPC G4 with update 10.4.7. And many users with PPC and the update are having the same issue.
Also, if apple would get their updates to the other groups (e.g CANON), then maybe these issues would not come up, but Canon told me "We just can not keep up with Apple updates, and we got the intel versions working, but PPC have toubles..."
OS updates should not affect peripherials such as digital cameras, and the computer does recongize the camera on the USB connection.
    thanks,
    Bill Anderson
