Canon SX50

I'm running LR 4.4 with Windows 7. Apparently, the Canon SX50 has been supported since LR4.3, but it doesn't appear as an option in Lens Corrections under Lens Profiles. I'd expect it to be among the Canons, after the lenses and among the other Powershot cameras.
Thanks,
Bill

Supported means the raw file format is supported.  Lens corrections are a whole other matter.  Many fixed-lens cameras are supported inherantly but don't show up in the lens corrections panel simply because the lens can't be removed and replaced.

Connecting the canon SX50 to HDTV for video playback???
ok, Got this Camera, like it, except for a few confusing issues. I was told, in order to playback HD video onto my HDTV Samsung, with an HDMI4 on the left side of the TV, all I needed was a HDMI to HDMI cable.
(#1) Shut off both TV and camera, plug the cable into this HDMI plugin, turn on the TV and Camera power supply, and it should recognize, then start paying.
Well, I did it both ways, (#1) shut off, then turn on, and (#2) I just inserted the camera's HDMI to the HDMI4 while both were on, and tried opening up the Samsung's' Tools >Inputs, etc, and still nothing!
Is there an easy way to accomplish this?
The second issue i'm having , is how to shut off the slow motion playback, when viewing the videos, which were not recorded in slow--mo, and it's frustrating trying to playback in normal speed, but instead it plays in slow-mo.
I'm not quite sure I'm recording in full HD...The payback is only 60i

    Thanks grazie!
Well, i accomplished most of that and at least got the video on the display (Samsung Anynet HDMI3) But no sound!
I was also able to control the SX50 TV Display with my samsung remote, kool.
As far as the playbgack volume, I checked the camera, I did notice the OPERATIONAL SOUND was off, but when I played back the video on the camera itself, i did have volume.
On that subject of Slow motion videos, if i'm watching each video, then see one playing back in slow-motion, does that mean i actually filmed it in slow motion, without knowing? ( i can send it through Pinnacle Studio 15HD and speed it back up, but theres no background volume anyway)  if i did unknowingly videotaped in slow motion, i bettter be more observant in the future.
I'm going to increase that ''Operational sound'' on the tools / Camera and try to playback to see if I have any sound.
I have a Yamaha 7.1 reciever, and TV, BD player,Time-Warner cable all is connected to this receiver....I was pushing all buttons for inputs to see which one would work for sound with video, but could not find any.  Thanks, or grazie grazie!

How can I best load RAW images from a Canon SX50?

9Sorry, ........confused about this process.   When I attempted to Post the question I had entered, I was told a blank space could not be posted.  So, I reentered the Q in the "space"........ which apparently was the space for an answer....!! ??......)
    >  When I try to load RAW images taken by my Canon SX50 from the SD card, iPhoto 11 -  (iMac/OSX 10.6.8) tells me that it can't read the format or something like that.    OSX 10.6.8 came out before the SX50, thus, did not include the related program.           I want to shoot RAW on the SX50....... but I then want to load them into iPhoto....... which I do directly from pics I take with my Nikon D200.

  • Canon SX50 Raw and PSE 11

I was told by Bradshaw, the online Adobe Chat Rep, that PSE 11 would fix the problem I have in PSE10 of editing Canon SX50 HS Raw files.  I also read on DPReview site that I could download and Install ACR 7.3 and it would fix the issue in PSE 11.  It won't install.  Anybody got and answer to this challenge.

Your camera gets support in version 7.3 which is out of beta testing and now available as a release candidate. You may want to wait for the final version of camera raw 7.3 which will be available shortly. Alternatively download the release candidate now but make a note to update when the final version is released.

  • How to fix noise problem with Canon sx50 HS

I'm wondering why are all of my videos I record with my Canon sx50 HS so noisy as in fuzzy not sound. No matter how I change my Aperture, Iso, Shutter speed, it still doesn't make much of a difference. I still see noise throughout my videos. I have a room where my lights are good, 75 volts and I still can't get rid of it. Can anyone personally help with this issue?

For starters, I don't know how good of video is possible with the sx50.  It's a compact camera, so there will be limits.
As to the noise and/or fuzziness.  Depends on if it's noise, or fuzziness, but I suspect both would be caused by the same thing - lack of light.   Photography/videography takes a surprising amount of light.  When you're indoors you need a surprising amount of bright lights for good picture.  I'm not sure what you mean by 75 volts, but a 75 watt light isn't bright at all, not for a camera.  How does the video look if you shoot outdoor?
If a camera doesn't get enough light it's going to do three things - open up the aperture, raise the ISO, and increase the shutter speed.  Raising ISO adds noise, plain and simple.  Opening the aperture can reduce the amount of the photo that will be in focus, making things look fuzzy.  And increasing the shutter speed can allow movement to show, also making things fuzzy.  Without seeing your video it's hard to speculate which it is.

Kapaxen ACK-DC80 AC Power Adapter with Canon SX50.

Look closely at the top edge of the battey compartment. There is a little flap type door that folds down and allows the wire to pass through and the battery compartment to close

  • I no longer can download photos from my Canon SX50 HS to i-photo

I had been downloading photos from my new Canon SX50 HS routinely for several weeks and then they no longer downloaded.  I-photo would not even connect to the camera.  I have spent considerable time removing various files and downloads but still the camera does not connect.  Any ideas?

Does Image Capture (in your appications folder) see the camera
If it does then use it to get the photos off the card - it not then you need a card reader - once you get the cards off the memory card then use the camera's format command to reformat and erase the card
once this is resolved a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos

  • Canon SX50 HS fisheye distortion

    Greetings,
I recently bought the Canon SX50 HS as an addition to my Canon Rebel but upon shooting with it, I found at the widest angle, there is a fisheye distortion to the shots with the corners rounded like an old photo. I tried with my Corel PSP 7 to correct the distortion but it only made the shot worse. I'm not new to the field but I can't understand why the camera is performing like this. I used my Canon Rebel XTI for years without this much trouble. Please tell me what I'm, doing wrong.

My first question would be how close are you to the subject in the shot when this occurs? Are you doing a macro at the wide end? This will certainly cause a fisheye effect with that small sensor in the SX50. I get that with my SX150 as well, so I've resorted to zooming in on macros to avoid that.
Now, if this is occuring in wide angle landscape shots, then there may be an issue with the lens on that camera, assuming you're not using a fisheye setting/scene mode. It may be that the lens is not properly aligned and is getting out of the "sweet spot" of the lens at the wide angle. It may need to be returned for another camera. This is not the norm, however, so if there's a way to compare your results with someone who has that model camera, I would check that out first to see if anyone else has that issue.

  • Canon SX50 consistently out of focus pictures

I bought the Canon SX50 Power Shot about 4 months ago and have taken at least 8000 photos in that time.  Mostly birds and wild life.  I understand apppeture, Shuter speed and ISO for the most part and typically use the manual option.  The auto mode usually doesn't give me a high enough shutter speed for my subjects. I am so frustrated with this camera at this point.  I can't believe how poor most of the photos are.  I have the IS set at continous and most photos are taken at the full 1200 mm. If I try the continous shooting it is slow and clunky.  And doesn't capture what I want. I realize I am new at this but I am missing something.  I have thought of selling the camera and getting something different but I love not having to change lenses and the nice zoom. I have attached a couple of untouched images.  None of which are the nice crisp photos I am after and I am definitely unable to print anything (espically if the ISO is too high). Any help would be appreciated. Thank you! I had another image I wanted to upload but its too big.  I have no idea how to change its size.

I am going out to experiment today with keeping my zoom to 600-800mm. Someone else told me the same thing. 600-800 would be an acceptable zoom provided I can keep the camera still. And yes I do struggle with the camera wanting to focus on other than my subject. I take a lot of photos of birds in the trees so branches and leaves, tiny stems cause focusing issues.
    I will report back after.
Ksl232323Good you decide to back off some zoom range, you will get much better results.  Because of the lower IQ of the Canon SX HS super zoom cameras I got a DSLR for IQ, and use my SX60 for longer zoom range.  To get a good DSLR lens in the longest range of the SX50 would cost a fortune.  I have a Canon DSLR, and Canon EF 70-300mm L  lens that cost 3 times as much as the SX50, but the furthest range is only 300mm.  That's only one of the difference in DSLR's and Powershot HS Bridge Camera .....IQ vs zoom.   With the SX50 we sacrifice IQ for more zoom, and the DSLR's sacrifice Zoom range for better IQ and superior build, within a given price range.   To get the best of both worlds in one body would cost a small fortune.  Most guys I know, including myself  get excellent results with DSLR lens in the range of 200-600mm.   Saying that to say that the Powershot SX HS camera's can get very good pics in that range also.  In fact I've had the Canon SX40, SX50, and now the SX60, and I could swear I got way better results with my SX40, that only had 35X zoom.  I really miss my SX40 now, and think I went for the hipe, at the time, for longer zoom range and really lost out big time on IQ of my pics.  Looking back on pics I took with the SX40, I think they are better than those I took with my newer models.  I was much happier with the shorter zoom range.

Amazing gallery, I just got a Canon SX50 which is stressing me out because with the video I can't get rid of the noise. I don't have any on a sunny day outside, but when I record inside it's everywhere I even bought LED 40watt Bulbs and a portable LED light. Do you have the same problem or know the solution?

  • Canon SX50 True color of a rising moon. Red or Orange

Canon SX50 What settings for capturing red or orange moon rising. Mine comes out white!  Ideas?

    Karen,
There are several tricks to get the moon shots to come out right. Most people attempt the shot as a night shot, and wind up over exposing the shot. Set your ISO to around 125 to 200. Shutter speed will be around 1/320; you may need to try a little higher or lower, but not less than 1/250. If you are using the zoom for a closer view, you will want to use a higher shutter speed, such as 1/320, to reduce camera shake. Using Shutter priority, let the camera select the aperture. Take several shots and see if you want a little darker (- exposure compensation) of lighter (+ exposure compensation). If you want to get real adventurous, you can set the camera to center weighted or spot metering in the functions menu, but for now see how you do with the basics. Then try the other metering methods I mentioned to see if that helps you get what you have in mind.
    Good luck and have fun!

  • Will achiever 260AF flash attachment work on the canon sx50 hs

Will an Achiever 260AF flash attachment work on the canon SX50 HS?  I know it will trigger but can the camera settings be adjusted to the flash output?

This sounds like a question to ask 'Achiever' and depends on whether the flash knows how to "talk" to a Canon camera.

  • Canon sx50 HS will not turn off.

I have canon sx50 HS that I cannot turn off.  I have to open the battery compartment to turn it off, but it turns on just fine.  Any suggestions?

hgdutcer, Try another battery or send it for service. Power on/off related issues are frequently related to a damaged or weakened power board (internal electronic power regulator) that will probably have to be replaced.
Not saying a reset isn't worth a try, just that power related problems are pretty common. Electronic parts get hot, they are susceptible to damage. The parts related to your battery are the gateway for power delivery.
    Good luck.
