Canon T1I flash not fireing

Looked on many websites, but sadly could not find a way to fix my flash, does anyone have any ideas?

If the camera thinks another flash is attached it wont allow you to use the pop-up flash.  This is actually a well-known issue and it can happen with lots of cameras.
The hot-shoe on the top of your camera has a couple of rails that hold an external flash.  In these rails are a couple of leaf springs to provide just a moderate about of tension.
But hiding under one of these leaf-springs is a tiny little micro-switch.  When you slide an external flash into the hot-shoe, it pushes down on that switch and that's how the camera knows you've attached an external flash.   Over time, this switch can eventually get dirty and jam so that the camera thinks there's a flash attached... even when there isn't.  When that happens, it'll refuse to pop-up the built-in flash because it thinks it would crash into the external flash (even though there is no external flash.)
Make sure the spring is able to spring up and you'll need to work the pin so it's able to spring up again.  A tiny flat-blade jewelers screwdriver may do the trick.  Also it may help to use a drop or two of denatured alcohol to dissolve any gunk that may be jamming it.  Do NOT use any type of "oil" as that'll just be a dust magnet and the problem will return.  Denatured alcohol, on the other hand, will evaporate so it'll be completely dry after you fix it.

  • Iphone 5 intermittent 'camera flash not firing when ON' issue - apple says they need to 'replicate' for repair!?

    i have been having this problem for a long time but i thought this was some ios bug. since i dont use the flash that much i noticed this problem only occasionally. but now i'm pretty sure this is some problem with the hardware....
    ...when kept on ON, the camera fires at will. especially if it detects a face, it wont fire. made a post about this long time back. have clean installed ios 7 since and also reseted settings several times. apple says wont do repairs until the issue is replicated in front of them! what do i do?

    If the repair shop was not apple certified repair shop then Apple will not replace/ or touch that device with a ten foot pole sadly. I'd follow Rudegar's advise and try anthoer repair shop as sadly it sounds like you got jipped by the original owner. Always verify your infomation through the company before you hand over the money!

  • Canon 6D will not focus or flash in "Live View" mode.

    My Canon 6D will not focus or flash in "Live View" mode.  I have a canon 430ex II  and a E-ttl flash connected with a sync cord for E-ttl function.  The camera does simulate shutter action, but no photo is taken.  How can I over-come this problem.
    Once in a while, after trying to take several photos it will start working, but usually not.

    Hi Shadowcat!
    Thanks for posting.
    It sounds like the AF Method is set to Quick Mode.  When the camera is set for Live View Shooting, there are different AF Methods that can be set.  In Quick Mode, the camera uses its dedicated AF sensor to focus when you press the shutter button down halfway.
    The image on the LCD will be interrupted while the camera tries to focus because the shutter closes and the mirror drops back over the image sensor.  This may look as though the camera is taking a picture, but it is not, it is only focusing.  No flash is fired during this process either.  Continue to hold the shutter button halfway until focus is achieved, at which point the image will return to the LCD.  Then you can press the shutter button the rest of the way down to take the picture.  The flash will fire and an image will be recorded.

  • Event.deactivate is not firing with flash plugin 10,2,152,26 embeded in IE 8 and above

    I am working on a portal which is built in flex. I wanted to perform some action based on my applications is in focus or out of focus. So  I tried to use two Events for this purpose Event.Activate and Event.Deactivate inside my flex code.
    These events fire perfectly in FF 3.0 and above, Safari, Chrome and these events get triggered till IE 7.
    But when I switch to IE 8 and above versions with latest flash player plugin 10,2,152,26 the Event.deactivate is not firing, and I am not able to detect whether my Flex application is out of focus.
    I tried doing some research around this issue both using Flex Events and Javascript approach using window.onfocusin and window.onfocusout, but still no luck in IE 8 and higher versions with latest Flash plugin 10,2,152,26.
    Has someone faced this kind of issue. Any help or solution to this problem would be appreciated. As we have a large number of users viewing this portal in IE 8 with latest flash plugin.
    The code is simple and I have pasted below:
    package {
      import flash.display.*;
      import flash.utils.*;
      import flash.events.*;
      public class Main extends Sprite {
        public function Main() {
          this.addEventListener(Event.ACTIVATE, activateListener);
          this.addEventListener(Event.DEACTIVATE, deactivateListener);

    this is a known issue (or, really a collection of issues) related to how the deactivate event works in different browsers.  check colin moock's blog.
    for most, but not all, purposes using a mouseleave event works well-enough.

  • Aperture 3.0 not importing RAW files from Canon T1i

    I have recently upgraded to Aperture 3.0. I shoot with Canon T1i in RAW+JPG file size. When importing files from Canon T1i for the first time to Aperture 3.0, I found that all files imported as jpg not RAW. How do I get the RAW files? Help!!!
    Anjali

    It does support Canon T1i RAW mode. In the "Import Settings", there's a section for "RAW+JPEG Pairs". If you don't see this, click the "Import Settings" pulldown menu and select it.
    In the "RAW+JPEG Pairs" section, there's a pulldown menu to allow you to select "Both (RAW as Master)"
    It'll use the JPEG as the "Preview" image, but it will use the RAW as the master for all adjustments you want to perform.
    Prior to the import, you should see both the JPEG and RAW (.CR2) files. AFTER the import, you should only see the RAW in your project (it has the JPEG... but it wont normally display it because it knows the RAW is the master.) After the import, select any photo in your project, then click the "metadata" tab on the left. At the top it should give you the camera, lens, exposure info, etc. and you should see the "RAW" icon.

  • Canon 580EX Flash will not fire. Being shot on a Canon 5D Mark III.

    The light  does not start out green and stays red on the 580EX Flash. It doesn't even go into a sleep mode when not activated for a length of time.  Fresh batteries does not make a difference.  It will allow me to change settings but it won't fire. The infra-red displays it's test light but the flash will not discharge even when it demands it.  It is not on slave or wireless settings.  Nothing makes the flash go off, even the test flash.

    First, the red light on the flash indicates it's ready to fire. It goes off when the flash is recycling.
    That "pilot" light also is a test button... Turn the flash on and as soon as it lights up, press it. If the flash fires, then it's likely the flash is fine.
    Next, check in your camera menu... is Flash Firing (which might be in a Flash Setup group on a later camera model) set to "enabled"? Silly little thing, I know... but it happens. Don't ask me how I know!
    Also check the flash is fully mounted in the hot shoe. The locking lever will not go all the way to the latched position, if the flash isn't fully seated in the shoe. The locking lever actuates a small pin on the flash's foot, that fits into a corresponding hole in the hot shoe, both to insure the flash is fully in place and to secure it there.
    If all the above checks out okay, another possibility is the camera's exposure mode. Now, personally I don't use them so can't say for certain, but assuming your camera even has them, maybe some of the more automated "scene modes" such as the "running man" for sports, etc. prevent the flash from firing.
    Again, I'm not certain how the flash will perform in those modes... But you should use Av, Tv, P or M to test the flash anyway. In the auto exposure modes Av, Tv and P, the flash will fire at reduced output, as FILL light. In the manual M mode, it will fire FULL, as the main light source. Often when firing as fill with reduced output the red light of the flash doesn't go out with a single shot... I often can get 2 or 3 pops out of it before the light goes out and the flash goes into recycle mode for a few seconds.
    Is it possible the flash actually is firing, but as fill so it's not a very strong output and it doen't need to go into recycle mode? You might not see the flash, if it's at reduced power and you have your eye to the viewfinder (which blacks out momentarily during the short duration of the exposure). Usually you hear the flash "pop", but if shooting somewhere with a lot of background noise, might not even be able to hear that.
    Finally, are you trying to use the flash wirelessly? If so, then there are a number of possibilities. First, the flash needs to be set as "slave". Next, the camera's on-board flash needs to be popped up to act as the controller. Also, the flash and camera need to be set to a matching channel or group. Also, the flash may need to be rotated so that the red pane on the front is facing the camera. Plus wireless flash control is optical, so is "line-of-sight" only. And it's reach is rather limited.
    Some of these suggestions may have already occured to you. If so, great! I don't know your level of experience with the flash or what camera you are using, so am just throwing out possibilities that occur to me. I hope this helps!

  • Import From Device "show preview" Does not work for RAW (Canon T1i/500D)

    Hi,
    Not sure if anyone else has seen this.  I just got a canon T1i (500D for you Europeans).  When I plug the camera into the computer and select Import From Device, and select "show preview" in the import window, only the JPEGs show thumbnails.  All of my RAW images show up as grey boxes.  This is the first digital SLR I ever owned, and the first time I am really using lightroom.  This kills my workflow plans, as I ususally download images into folders, and name them, by category.  Without seeing the thumbnails, it is impossible to know what category what images belong to.
    Anywone have any ideas?  Does this happen with all RAW images on all cameras?  Is it a T1i problem?
    Thanks.
    w0den

    OK, I have the previews working now, which is good.  Here is how I am using the tool.
    1) put the card in a card reader
    2) select import from device
    I noticed a couple of things that are very frustrating:
    1) I Don't see a way to delete photos from the import tool, either manually or automatically after import.  I seem to have to delete thing through explorer (I am on windows xp)
    2) There is no indication of whether you have downloaded an image already or not.  The software that came with the camera puts an arrow on all downloaded pictures.  This is very nice if you are not importing all your pictures at once.
    3) My camera takes movies.  There is no way to import them along with the rest of the files (yes I know lightroom is not a movie tool, but having to use another program or explorer is annoying).  Furthermore,  every time I try to import files when there is a movie on the card, I get an error saying movies will be skipped.  The pics still import, but it is irritating.
    Any suggestions?  I am trying to figure out a good work flow.  I would import everything and than organize the files, but I don't see any easy way to resort files and rename them en-mass.  I tried moving files in explorer, but, as could be expected, LR could not find the files afterward.  I re-synced the folder, but that lost the changes I made on images (I did not have them saved as DNG, so the modifications were in the side car, I guess).
    Thanks,
    w0den

    Solved!

    A few...
    I trust you have verified that the flash fully powers up and you get the red pilot lamp showing it's ready to fire.
    On your 60D menu system, if you find the "Flash control" option, you can make sure you haven't set the external speedlite to "disable" -- although I think in that mode you wouldn't get the message you're describing.  i.e. I doubt this is it but you may as well double-check.
    A more common reason for failure is that the flash camera can't fully communicate with the flash.  This is usually because of a bad connection in the "foot" of the flash.
    The flash needs to be fully seated in the hot-shoe rails.  Make sure the lock level is released, slide the flash fully into the hot-shoe rails until it stops.  Engage the lock on the foot so it's held securely (it will will slide to the right and then click-to-snap (you have to press the tiny button to release the lock lever).  This doesn't *just* snug the foot... it also drops a tiny metal locking pin into a small hole in the hot shoe so that the flash cannot slide out.
    At that point, the "foot" of the flash is actually the "ground" connection and it's in contact with the metal rails of the hot-shoe AND all five of the contacts on the foot should be in contact with the camera.
    This assumes there's nothing wrong with the flash -- and there could be something wrong with it.   So if you're confident you've fully seated the flash, then remove the flash and inspect the "foot" on the flash.
    The metal plate on the foot of the flash should be solid... if you use your fingers and attempt to wiggle it (don't use heavy force... we don't want to break it -- just grasp it firmly and see if it will wiggle at all) it should not move.  If it does move it means that the foot has come loose and is not secured to the flash body (there are four very tiny screws which hold it securely but they can only be accessed from the inside of the flash.
    Next... inspect the 5 metal pins on the foot of the flash.  Each of these pins is spring-loaded so that they'll press against the 5 contact points in the camera hot-shoe.  I have occasionally seen a spec of something (e.g. a bit of sand) get wedged in and "jam" a pin so that it it no longer makes contact with the contact on the hot-shoe.  If you view the foot of the flash from an edge-on view, all the pins should spring back out to the same height.  If one of them is recessed lower than the rest... it's jammed.
    The 430EX II has a solid reputation as a work-horse flash.  It tends to be among the more reliable flashes on failures are rare.
    It's also possible that the problem is in the camera.  An easy test of this is to try another speedlite (if you have one or if you have a friend who has one.)  If it is your speedlite, and it's under warranty, then it's probably a simple remedy by Canon service.
    If the flash is not under warranty and the problem is with the hot-shoe connection not being solid, then it's often an easy repair.  If a foot were irreparably damaged, the entire foot can be replaced (the whole thing is a module) and it's an easy and I believe somewhat low-cost repair.

  • Safari 5.1 flash mouse_leave not fired when mouse button is down

    Hi all, anyone know a work around for the fact that Event.MOUSE_LEAVE is not fired in Safari 5.1 (OSX 10.6.8) if the mouse button is down? I tried the latest beta player and the issue is not resolved. Thanks!

    WOT alerts you to dangerous web sites.
    That function is already built into Safari, and has been since version 3:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/137094/2008/11/safari_safe_browsing.html
    I had never heard of the WOT extension until today!
    If you go to Safari Preferences/Security you will see a box marked 'Warn when visiting a fraudulent website'. That is what that is.
    The blacklists from Google’s Safe Browsing Initiative (where Safari checks for 'fraudulent websites') are contained in a database cache file called SafeBrowsing.db  - the file was created when you first launched Safari, and if you have the browser open, the file is modified approximately every 30 minutes.

  • Many threads on application.onDisconnect not firing but seemingly no solution

    I've dug some threads up and included links at the end of this post. Have some more work to do researching it but figured I'd get the ball rolling.
    Essentially one can't depend on application.onDisconnect() firing at the close of a client's browser.  It happens sometimes.  But with some apps, it just doesn't happen at all.  I've watched the FMS management console as I've repeatedly opened and closed a particular app I'm developing.  Connections don't die with each browser close.  The net result is a piling up of connections.  My app has a "connected users" list in it.  It gets packed with multiple connections from the same client.
    Eventually, after 5-10 mins, the connections disappear on their own.  Not good though.  One of the functions in my app lets someone select a user in the list and send a direct chat.  This feature isn't working because disconnections are not registering real time.  Some of the people in the user list are not really there anymore.
    I get the problem in both IE8 and FireFox 3.5.3 on FMS 3.52.  Others have reported the problem in various browsers and FMS versions going way back. Problem's been around for some time.
    This guy has the same problem and a nice description, although he experienced only in IE:
    onDisconnect Errors in Internet Explorer: (http://www.flashnewz.com/ondisconnect-errors-in-internet-explorer/)
    After reading the accounts at the links gathered below, I get the feeling it might not necessarily be an FMS problem alone, but rather some combo of browser, SWFObject implementation, and perhaps particular features used (or not used) in the client ActionScript.  Nobody's seemed to nail down the precise combination though.
    Pretty much a show stopper.  Has anyone developed viable work arounds?

    CS4 won't read Canon T1i raw files. Is this a known problem? Is there an update or plugin that I need to download? If so, where can I find it? Thanks for your help.

    T1i support was added in Camera Raw 5.4. It sounds like your Camera Raw may be out of date.
    From within Photoshop, choose "Updates…" from the Help menu. It'll do its thing and eventually Adobe Updater should tell you updates are available. Run through that install process and you should be set to go.
    Note that you will have to quit Photoshop during the installation process, so make sure all your work is saved.

    I have a Canon T1i and would like to know if the newer SDXC flash memory cards are supported. If yes, are there significant advantages over SDHC cards?

    Your camera supports SD and SDHC, respectively.  The SD card was the first released, and the SDXC is the most recent.  The SDHC will work best with your camera.  What you want to look at and purchase with your memory card is the Class/speed rating, which with your camera I'm guessing is maybe a recommended minimum of Class 6, and if I were you I'd go all the way and purchase a Class 10 with the greatest transfer rate.  Trust me, you won't regret it, and the cost difference is negligible when considering the cost of your camera and all its accoutrements.

    Hi btrippy,
    You can check the media information whether it is stereo or mono and some other information through media info software.
    http://mediainfo.sourceforge.net/en/Download
    Check as per Windows or Mac.
    If windows check the file system 32 bit or 64 bit as per your system and then you need to select the GUI v0.7.34 (without installer)
    Download and install the software and then import one of your video clips and then click on VIEW menu and then select TREE to check the information.
