Canon T1i memory cards

I have a Canon T1i and would like to know if the newer SDXC flash memory cards are supported. If yes, are there significant advantages over SDHC cards?

Your camera supports SD and SDHC, respectively.  The SD card was the first released, and the SDXC is the most recent.  The SDHC will work best with your camera.  What you want to look at and purchase with your memory card is the Class/speed rating, which with your camera I'm guessing is maybe a recommended minimum of Class 6, and if I were you I'd go all the way and purchase a Class 10 with the greatest transfer rate.  Trust me, you won't regret it, and the cost difference is negligible when considering the cost of your camera and all its accoutrements.

Should I be using a better card if so what card.  Thanks

The photos must be located inside a folder named DCIM, and their names must have eight characters plus the .jpg
iPad SD Card Reader supports SD standards up to SDHC, miniSD and microSD with adapters, and MMC.
    SDXC is not supported.

  • Deleting photos/formatting SD card after use in Canon T1i

So once my Canon Rebel T1i formats my SD card in it's default state with two directories (DCIM/Canon) I have no permissions on the card other than "read only." This came up out of no where and now I can't delete images off of it in iPhoto (or the computer for that matter). I can reformat it in my Windows computer but this defeats the purpose of having them auto delete once imported. I am running the latest build of Lion and have a PNY profressional series SD card.
    Help please.

You may have been able to try and use Disk Utility to repair file damage on
the SD card's storage; but the actual damage due to improper unmounting
in the first instance is carried over to the last. So corruption of them is likely.
There may be some third party utility for helping restore or recover data
from these camera flash memory cards, that may help. Sometimes, it
may be possible to see if the OS X Disk Utility can try to fix the files, but
that may also change them or make them unrecoverable by another kind
of utility. While I don't have experience recovering lost or erased images
from camera memory cards, I do know such software utilities for just this
purpose do exist. Initially, a few years ago, I noticed a freeware utility was
offered as well as a few shareware downloads that would work, for a fee.
Maybe that is the direction to check into, and see if you can repair and
recover the images which were subject to damage or corruption due to
the improper unmounting and remounting of the SD. These items act
just like any external hard disk drive, and need to be handled the same.
    Good luck & happy computing!

hiii   how can i see my sandisk memory card of my canon slr camera

Read the user manual that came with your camera or contact the vendor.  My camera asks me where I want my uploads to go to.  There is a setting in its option menu.  Desktop is the default upload feature that my camera has.
When I connect the memory card to a reader, the photos automatically upload to my desktop.

I'm connected via Airport Express, printing and scanning is fine. I have installed the last update I can find (mp560sosxcp103030ea8-2). I want to import picture from a Compact Flash memory card, the printer perfectly read the card.

You may need to check the Advanced Guide for your MP560. This is part of the On-screen manual you can download from the Canon web site. Here is a link from the Canon Australia web site.
    http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0300237701.html
The reason I suggest you check the guide is that according to the Guide for my MP980, the Card Slot cannot be used over a network for Mac OS X 10.5, and presumably 10.6. It functions fine when the printer is connected directly to the Mac via USB. But if you have the machine connecting via wireless to the Express, then it may not function. But given your model is a year newer than mine, maybe this limitation is no longer present. So, check the manual to confirm.

  • Canon 5D Mark ii Memory Card/CF Problem - Overwriting pic

    Hello,
I have had my Canon 5D Mark ii for a year and a half now and love it. However, from time to time I have issues with the memory card/ memory card reader and it is really acting up right now.  I have tried a couple of different memory cards, so I don't believe that the actual card is the issue.  What happens is that the first pic comes out fine and then the next picture overwrites the one I just took and has a pink striped part through part of the pic.  If I take a third pic it will overwrite it again and the whole pic will be very washed out and have that same pink strip through it.  The only thing that works is taking out the memory card and putting it back in. I'm missing lots of pics lately though!  See below for pic examples.  In the second pic you can see the pink strip at the top.  Any ideas as to what the problem could be? We are going to the beach in a few weeks and I really want my camera to work! Thanks!!! ~ Stacie

    Stacie,
Almost always things like this are the fault of the CF card but not entirely.  The things you need to know and do are....
Buy top quality cards like Snadisk or Lexar.  Get them from known good retailers. Usually 4GB, 8BG or 16GB is best.
Only format the CF card with the camera, never with a computer.  Format the CF card before each important shoot.
    Have spares.
Another important factor is to set the camera back to factory defaults whenever you see someting you don't know how it happened!
You may want to reinstall your camera's firmware and this is a good time to make sure it is the latest from Canon.
Go to the 5D Mk II web page.
And card readers go bad.  Get a new one.  They are cheap.  Even the USB port in your computer can fail so try a different port or another computer.
It is also possibilt that one or two of the very tiny pins in the CF card slot have been bent over.  Use a flash light to see it they are all upright.
I use the entire line of 5D's and they are truly great cameras.  You will love it.

  • Canon EOS 350D does not see memory card--I've tried two different ones. Will not format--err 99

My EOS 350d has not worked since it was shipped to my daughter.  Bought new memory card and camera still does not recognize that a card is in it.  When connected to computer I could see card but it had 0 used memory and 0 memory available.  Now it does not show at all.  Using canon software get same response--no memory card.  Have tried with two different memory cards.  Even formatted one card on PC, still nothing.  Any ideas what to try next--pins look like they are all in correct place.

Unfortunately, the Error 99 code is not a specific error code and can indicate a number of issues, such as battery power issues, shutter issues, etc.  The more I looked into the 350D and memory card compatibility the more I think that may not be the issue.  In all honesty, I'd contact Canon support as you may have to send your camera in for repairs.
Before doing that, though, I'd try this. Restart your camera, wait a few moments then set the camera's power to Off and remove the batteries.  Open the memory card slot cover to make sure the memory card is securely set in the card slot, then reinsert the batteries and turn the power to On. Hopefully that will do the trick, and if not I'd update the firmware for the camera as a last resort and see if that rectifies the problem.  If not, contact customer support.

  • CS3 or CS4 -Import/Edit HD video from memory card Canon Vixia HFS100

Can someone 'jumpstart' or direct me to good tutorial(s) for the following:
Video recording with Canon Vixia HFS 100 camera is full HD 1080, 60i frame rate, AVCHD specs, onto a SDHC card.
I have CS3, getting ready to install upgrade to CS4.  Most project files created are for NSTC standard TV broadcast.
Answer to specific questions appreciated as well as additional information or resources.
What preset is best to use for project files?
Do you have to install the Pixela imagemixer to recognize for video import from the memory card?

Unfortunately, you have posted into the Premiere forum. This is an older series of programs, prior to the introduction of the Premiere Pro line, with PrPro 1.0.
Now, for AVCHD material, CS4.1 offers full native support for this format with most of its variations. One DOES need a beefy computer to process this footage, as it is very heavily CPU-dependent.
I'll bet that Curt, or Jeff, will move your post to the PrPro sub-forum, so look for it there. You will get many more responses in that forum.

  • MacBook Pro suddenly won't read SanDisk 8G memory card, nor Canon T2i USB connection.

    Suggestions?
I've plugged the memory card into the slot several times not even a week ago and it worked just fine...now it won't.
I have tried plugging the camera in via the USB hook up and nothing happens but yet it works fine on other computers I've used.

I just received the following helpful URL link from SanDisk tech support.
    http://kb.sandisk.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/60
SanDisk responded within 5 hours of my inquiry. After removing all USB devices from my iMac and reinserting the card reader alone, the reader started working again. I ejected it numerous times from USB ports on the iMac as well as from a USB hub. After plugging my other USB devices back in, I have not detected if there was a device which was causing the conflict. As a precaution I have removed USB devices that are only used periodically such as a Colorvision Spyder2Express device used every 30 days or so to color correct my monitor.
Hope this helps others with Mac card reader issues.

  • Image browser "memory card utility" downloading to wrong date folder

    Mac OSX 10.7, Image Browser 6.9.0.3 (9L)
I own 5Dmarkii and 60D.  When I insert memory card, Memory Card Utility (1.7.0.0.9L) launches.  I select Download, and program transfers to my computer.  No fancy settings, just standard.
Both cameras date setting is correct, and image efix data is correct for date and time shot.  Computer system date and time correct.
Pictures taken prior to 5:00pm are filed in a folder with previous days date.  Photos after 5:00pm are filed in correct days folder.
    Driving me nuts..... Help please

I'm having the same issue.  The Canon software behaves as though it catagorizes the photos (and names them, based on the way I'm importing them) based upon what day it was/is in England (I  think it uses GMT when making the date classification)
For me, it is also usually an annoyance, but sometimes it's more frustrating.  If I want my files named by date, correctly, then I have to re-name all the photos taken after 4:00 pm (16:00).
Yes, my camera (7D) and computer (MacBook Pro) have their date and time settings correct.  (I tried changing the time zone my camera was set to to see if it changed the problem, and it didn't.  The Canon software is mis-placing the photos based on the date.)
I might try this workflow on a Windows machine, and see if it persists.
    Anyone have any ideas?

  • How do I download /export my iPhotos to a memory card on my camera?

I am trying to "organize" my camera memory cards, which I want use as a back up rather than just using external or USB drives. I can not find how to Export photos to a new memory card in my camera.
The reason I want to do this is because when I've saved on a USB or External Drive, the photos are zipped, & then when I uploaded back to my mac (when I needed to get a new one), the dpi & KB is really low (270 x 360 & 54 KB compared to over 2000 x 1500 & 255 KB for recent photos!)
The iPhoto help manuals & Apple site helps don't address this exporting, only how to export to Email & the web.
I was told by someone USB & ED's "don't change the size" (it does zip them) & to increase the dpi & KB on those, just "double click" on each photo in the iPhoto app - didn't work! So any other better / real ideas how to increase the dpi/KB would be more than welcome, as I can't print any of my older photos, the size is too small!

PS - My camera is a Canon Power Shot A590. Last time this was discussed was in 2006, & suggested to "buy a usb plug in card reader & drag photos ..."
Still the answer since Canon Camera's will not mount to the desktop
I am trying to "organize" my camera memory cards, which I want use as a back up rather than just using external or USB drives.
Why? memory cards are not very reliable - using Time Machine and an external hard drive is a MUCH better way to backup - I run TM so I have hourly backups - do a daily bootable clone - ane I never have iPhoto delete my photos when I import them so I have the originals too - and if you really want a backup on your memory card this is the way to have one - do not delete when importing
This is user error - not in any way a function of backing up to an external Drive - a properly done backup and restore gives you exactly what you had whe you did the backup - that is the whole purpose of a backup - and it works perfectly if done correctly
I was told by someone USB & ED's "don't change the size" (it does zip them) & to increase the dpi & KB on those, just "double click" on each photo in the iPhoto app - didn't work! So any other better / real ideas how to increase the dpi/KB would be more than welcome, as I can't print any of my older photos, the size is too small
this is a very cofussed set of statements
1 - no backup "changes the size" of the photos - the entire purpose of a backup is to have an exact copy available in case of problems
2 - Most backups do not zip photos - some do - zipping does not change the content when you unzip
3 - DPI is not an atribute of a photo - it is a mathmatical caculation - dots (pixels) divided by inches - you do not have DPI until you have inches (either a display or a print)
4 - the only way to "change" DPI is ot change inches - for a given photo the only way DPI can be increased is by printing a smaller photo - decreasing inches
5 - the KB of a photo is not material - the only things that is interesting is the pixel dimensions - and you can not make them larger
Basically you are chasing the wrong things - buy an external drive formatted Mac OS extended that is 2 1/2 times the size of your main drive and run Time Mahcine all the time with its default settings

  • How to export photos from iPhoto to memory card SanDisk

    Hi;
I am trying to move photos from iPhoto to a flash drive. In the flash drive I have a SanDisk memory card in a Kodak 50-IN-1 Card reader and I put it into the drive. I have tried to open iphoto click on the photo, go to file click on export and it. The photo shows up in the flash drive port, I can click on it and see it but when I take the disk and try to re-upload the disk the photo will not show up on iphoto nor will it show up in the camera.
The second way I tried was to create a folder, copy to the folder and the drag folder to the device. I again ended up with the same results.
Why will it show up in the device when I click on the device but the photo will no show up in iphoto or when I put the disk into the camera?
    Tom

Most cameras expect photos to be in specific folder(s) on the card and to have file names in specific formats. My Canon G12, for example, uses a structure like this:
    CANON_DC
    ....DCIM
    ........100___01
    ............IMG_0001.CR2
    ............IMG_0001.JPG
    ............more photos
    ........100___02
    ............IMG_0007.CR2
    ............IMG_0007.JPG
    .............more photos
(My camera is set to create a new folder every month, but there are other options. One of my previous cameras went to a new folder every hundred photos.)
Examine a card formatted by your camera with some pictures taken by your camera to discover what sort of file structure and filenames your camera creates, then mimic that.
On the re-import side, iPhoto and Image Capture know about the common file structures and filenames, so it recognizes them when it sees them. Dropping long, random names in the top level of the card as illustrated in the video is likely only to work when you view the card on another system with a general file structure with an application that makes full use of it (like Finder or Windows Explorer).

  • IPhoto won't read any of my portrait photos, only the landscape ones. They only show up as black portraits and I already erased them off my memory card. Any idea how to retrieve them or fix the problem?

I am using a 16 GB Sandisk Extreme Pro SD Card with a Canon EOS 60D camera and my files are saved as .raw on the memory card. I imported all my photos into iPhoto and then clicked the 'delete photos', as I always do after I imported by pictures, but when I went through my pictures I saw some black rectangles. It appears that all my portrait-orientated photos are just black whereas my landscape photos are perfectly fine. My portrait potos did turn up on my camera screen when I checked them through as I took them but now they're gone. Any idea if this is a software problem with iPhoto, an error with my memory card or even my camera? I've experienced this problem a bunch of times and it's really starting to annoy me that I'm losing all my photos.

    What version of iPhoto?
Select one and rotate it. Then rotate it back. Does that make it appear?
A much better work flow is the keep the photos after importing.  Check the success the import, wait for at least one successful backup cycle then use you camera's format command to reformat the card

  • Photos did not download and I deleted them from memory card. how to recover?

Photos did not download to computer.  I deleted them from memory card.  Is there a way to retrieve them from memory card.

If all you did was delete them it should be relatively easy to recover them BUT don't use the card until you've done it. Even after a format it's fairly easy but not after re use because you write over them. For more help read the replies here.

You will need a card reader because I don't think it can be done in camera using the usb cable.
