Canon T3i Rebel won't turn on( Intermittently)

Hi,
My Canon T3i Rebel sometimes goes off while I am shooting. When I try to get it back, it just won't turn on. Now if I take the memory card and the battery out, leave it overnight and next day re-assemble them and turn it on it MAY or MAY NOT turn on.
I tried to isolate the scenarios and check where the problem is but couldn't find a cause.
1. Cannot be a problem with memory cards: I tried using different SD Cards but no avail. Atleast when I take the card out and try to start the camera, it should get turned on with a message 'No Card'. Sometimes it does get turned on, sometimes in doesn't.
2. Can't be a problem with the battery : I tried using different batteries fully charged, yet the same problem persists.
3. Can't be a problem with the micro switches: If that was a problem the camera wouldn't get turned on AT ALL. Sometimes it does get turned on.
I had sent it out for repair to the Canon master service center. They couldn't find any error logs. They changed the PCB, but it did not help either.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Turn on the Camera
2. Use different lenses
3. Use different modes ' Auto / Manual/Video '. Set the lenses to different modes: 'A/F' and 'Manual Focus'.
4. Click pictures.
Error noticed:
The camera would automatically get turned off at some point of time. Switch on the camera. It wouldn't turn on.
Turn off the camera, take the battery and cards out and re-assemble them. Switch on the camera. It wouldn't turn on.
Take the card and battery out. Leave it overnight. Re-assemble them. Switch on the camera. It MIGHT nor MIGHT NOT turn on.
I bought this camera from amazon usa. It has 3 years US and Canada warranty. I am using this in India, so I am not able to avail the warranty.
Please help.

Hi ozkucur.
Yeah, I luckily did manage to get this resolved. There was an internal loose connection at some contact point with the SD card unit. The service center guy noticed this after I resent it for repair.They fixed it and finally my camera is working.
They had initially re-placed the PCB unit box but that didn't help. They had forgotten to check the loose contact that was there which was actually causing the issue. I ended up spending Rs 5700 i.e. approx equal to $93. But it doesn't matter now. I m happy that my camera is finally working. It's a huge relief.
You too might be having a similar problem. Ask the repair guy to check and fix all the contact points and do a rigourous testing. It should sort out the problem. Hope this helps.

  • T3i won't turn on out of the box

    I just bought a Rebel T3i and it won't turn on out of the box.  I've done everything exactly as the directions say, but each time I flip the "on" switch, nothing happens.  I've managed to turn it on but ONLY by flipping the "on" switch, taking out the battery, putting it back in, then flipping the battery door closed (entire sequence with the "on" switch in place).  So far, of all the things I've tried, this is the only thing that works.  Has anyone else had the same thing happen or can help me figure out what might be wrong?  I live in Africa and had the camera brought here with a friend, so unfortunately, just returning it isn't really an option at this point.  Thanks!

    And you are certain the battery is charged before you try?
    Otherwise, returning, or warranty service may be your only options.

    You need camera raw 8.4 for your camera, if it’s Digital Rebel T5 EOS 1200D EOS Kiss X70. It is not compatible with PSE11; so it’s a bit odd if that software was bundled with the camera except that it will work with jpegs. I suggest you download and install the free Adobe DNG converter to convert your CR2 files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the DNG files will editable in PSE11(keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
    Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.4
    You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

    Is the canon eos rebel t3i compatible with Mac osx 10.9.1?
    I am trying to transfer my photos from my camera to my Mac.
    I have downloaded the software for the camera to my Mac BUT it cannot transfer the photos.
    EOS Utility states that it cannot be used with this version of the operating system.
    I am running on OSX 10.9.1
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

    I would try uninstalling the canon software and then just plug your camera into your Mac. iPhoto should be all the software you should need.

  • I have a Canon EOS Rebel T3 1100D which will not turn on.

    I have a Canon EOS Rebel T3 1100D which will not turn on. Battery charger shows green light , but when installed camera will not turn on. Place battery back into charger and it shows yellow light and takes awhile to charge and show green light. I thought must need new battery but it does same thing. This camera has been trouble free from start, it is a few years old but didn't think i would have internal issuses already. Am i missing something? Ordered ac adapter to plug in direct and see if it works then. Any ideas would be helpful Thank you.

    Hi GP!
    Welcome to the Canon Forum.
    If the camera still does not power on after using a new battery or after you try an AC adapter, the camera will need repair.  To start the repair process, you'll need to complete a Repair Request on our website.

  • HELP!!! I do the yearbook for my elementary school. I took a lot of pictures on my Canon EOS rebel

    HELP!! I do the yearbook for my elementary school.  I took a lot of photos on my Canon EOS rebel t3i and was transferring them to my computer when I get impatient.  I pulled the disc out of the computer while it was still trying to read it.  Then I put it back in the computer to try to start over.  When that didn't work I put the disc into the camera to see if I could read them there.  The photos did not show in the camera so making things even worse I took a picture to see if it was working at all.  I was able to take a picture but it said that only 1 picture was on the disc.  Then I put the disc back into the computer and it came up showing the icons for the original photos but kept spinning and spinning and didn't do anything.  Now it won't even do that much but what happens now is I get the DCIM folder like normal, then the 100CANON folder and then a folder that says  ╟/ 0A1.u when i try to open that folder it says, "The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."  Is there any hope for getting the pictures back or making this disc useable again?  Thank you for your time and your help!  I feel like saying, "Help me o b canon experts you're my only hope!"

    Well, first may I say I think it is appalling that an elementary school would ask a kid between the ages of 6 and 11 like yourself to shoulder such a responsibility.  Budget cuts are what they are, but kids should not be expected to pick up the slack.  You have done remarkably well under these shocking circumstances.  And you write way beyond your age group, which is a credit to yourself and your teachers.
    You should tell your parents to contact their state congressman and demand that they increase funding for schools, or else drop the yearbook program.

  • Macbook (2.1Ghz white 2008 model) display won't turn on during start-up

           hi all,
    my problem is pretty simple.
    Sometimes, after having used an external display with my Macbook (using the Apple Mini DVI > DVI adaptor: http://store.apple.com/au/product/M9321G/B?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY ) the Macbook's own display won't power on during the next boot-up. I can hear the hard-disk start up, and the system boot, and I'm even able to navigate my way into the user login and shut the computer down (all via the keyboard). So the computer is definitely powering up (and in a seemingly normal way), but the display isn't.
    For example, last night I was using an external display with my Macbook. This morning I plug the display back into my Mac Pro, then power-up my Macbook. But the Macbook's display won't turn on. It's as though it thinks the external display is still plugged-in. I know, that if I re-connect the external display, the Macbook's login page is displayed, but only on the external screen.
    The problem only arose after I started using this particular external display (a cheap 22" BenQ, model G2222HDL 'senseye 3'). I wouldn't normally use the display with my Macbook, but my Mac Pro has a **really** noisy optical drive (CD/DVD), which makes watching films pretty unbearable (if you're into sound anyway, which I am).... so until I get my Mac Pro's drive sorted (when I have a few spare days when I won't be needing it), I'll have to continue using my external display with my Macbook to watch films.
    My Macbook's specs are as follows:
    2.1Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook (2008 model - I think, maybe 2009?)
    4Gb RAM
    Running OS X 10.5.8
    Are there any known display issues with these models of Macbook? Or are there any software/firmware updates that address any display issues?
    In general, I don't update the software/firmware unless I need to, or unless something doesn't seem to be working properly.
    However, I've just checked Software Update, and noticed there is an SMC firmware update (1.4). So I might give that a go and see if the problem persists.
    However, the problem is intermittant, and kind of unpredicatable, so I might not know for a while if it solves the problem or not.
    Has anyone else had a similar problems?
    Alternatively, is there a possibility there is some kind of virus or file-corruption causing this problem?
    My girlfriend has a similar model of Macbook (which she's never had any problems with). Recently I moved a whole bunch of files from my Macbook to hers, and she noticed that hers had a similar issue starting up, where the display failed to turn on.... so it seems like
    a) it might be a common-ish problem in this model of Macbook
    or
    b) perhaps I've got some kind of virus on mine?
    I've been using Macs for about 15 years (yet, I don't consider myself a computer expert, when it comes to the technical details). In those 15 years, viruses have never really been a concern to me, as I've never really thought they were much threat to Macs. However, I guess, as Macs get increasingly more popular, there's a possibility people will write more Mac-specific viruses...?
    Anyway, I'm open to suggestions : )
    Regards,
    Sam
    PS I've tried:
    -re-starting the computer multiple times (which sometimes works, but usually doesn't).
    -re-setting the SMC (which usually works, but not always)
    -plugging/un-plugging the external display to try and jog the computer into noticing it isn't connected (which doesn't work)

    let me ellaborate on this part:
    "b) perhaps I've got some kind of virus on mine?"
    I mean, " perhaps I've got some kind of virus on mine, and I've passed it on to hers?"

  • Windows 7 64-bit driver for Canon Digital Rebel XT

    How do I interface my Canon Digital Rebel XT with a computer running Windows 7 64-bit?

    You are correct.  Canon does not provide a driver for Windows 7 64-bit.  You have to change the communication mode in your camera and then use Windows Photo Gallery or other software to transfer the photos.  Here is the response that I received from Canon tech support (it works):
    "To connect your camera to a Windows Vista or Windows 7 computer, you'll need to change the communication mode.
    To set your camera up for this, please do the following:
    With the camera disconnected from the computer, turn the camera on.  Press the "Menu" button.  Now select the [Wrench, Hammer, 2] tab.  Scroll down to "Communication" and press the "Set" button.
    Select the [Print/PTP] and press "Set".  This process is more completely described (and illustrated too!) on page 121 of your Digital Rebel XT Instruction Manual.
    Now connect your camera to your computer and turn the camera on.  Your computer should now recognize and have access to your Digital Rebel XT.
    Unfortunately, Canon software cannot communicate with the Rebel XT when operating in this mode.
    You may download your pictures using Windows Photo Gallery, or you may use a card reader to download images.  If you haven't already done so, you may retrieve and install this program from Microsoft's download.live.com."

  • Canon t3i

    EOS Movie Plugin-E1
    On Febrary 5th, 2010, Canon Inc. announced the launch of a new, completely free plug-in to be used with Apple’s Final Cut Pro (FCP) software. Once this plug-in is installed, it works in tandem with FCP software and can be called-up directly from the editing program's menu system.
    I need to know if this plug-in will work with the Canon EOS Rebel T3i/600d.
    I know the literature says the plug-in is for EOS-1D Mark IV, EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 7D, and the EOS 60D.  But I think the new T3i has the same file format as these cameras.  So will the plug-in work?
    I called Canon, they said they think it will work, but asked me to check with you first. Thanks for you help.
    Jay Hunt

    Yep it works fine once you tweak the plist file.
    1. Download and Install Canon's driver software.  It doesn't include the T3i only higher end cameras.  So simply hack this file as shown below. You can copy and paste the text below in place and save it.  I used the Free Text Wrangler.
    2. There is no step 2
    The plist is at this location.
    /Library/Application Support/ProApps/MIO/RAD/Plugins/CanonE1.RADPlug/Contents/Resources/cameras.plis t
    Open and change to this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
              <key>T3i</key>
              <array>
                        <string>Canon EOS REBEL T3i</string>
              </array>
    </dict>
    </plist>
    Now save and close.  QED.  BTW there are endless scams out there selling conversion software.  You don't need it.  The nice thing is this reads from the card directly and saves the transcoded media as Apple Pro Res (you select which) to your scratch disk or storage drive.  No duplication of media.  The result is smooth and no stuttering on a FW 800 drive for me using a MBP i7 and 8 GIGs RAM using Pro Res 422.
    Note: You are using FCPro.  You are reading from the card directly not dragging the files else where first!  You use 'Log and Transfer' in FCPro.
    Note if you have other higher end Canon cameras simply add the strings to the current file rather than over writing.  If you only have a T3i it's easier to simply use the text above only.  If adding you would only add these few lines to the exisiting file along with the other camera profiles.:
      <key>T3i</key>
              <array>
                        <string>Canon EOS REBEL T3i</string>
              </array>
    Enjoy

  • FCPX importing canon t3i, FCPX doesn't recognize the structure?

    I'm inserting my card from my new canon t3i, FCPX doesn't recognize the card?

    I have an idea.
    Create a folder on you desk top. Give it a name that ties it to images and video you shot using the t3i plus the date of the shoot. Connect your USB to your camera. Open Image capture. Turn t3i on. You should be able to transfer both images and video to the folder on your desktop via image capture. Check the folder to make sure your images and videos are there. Then turn off your camera. (If you get a camera image on your desktop, you do not need to use image capture.) Open F.C.P.X. Under file-Import-file, then under import files-look for your Desktop-then the folder with with stills & video-open folder-then highlight the video files, then import.
    I've been doing this, using flash memory cards, in dual mode cameras. It has worked for me with out a problem.
    Remember, this is just an idea.
    Hope it works for you.

  • After upgrade to latest firmware canon network printer won't print

    after upgrade to latest firmware canon network printer won't print. It's a canon MP540 on a wireless network. It will print a test page but won't print from any application, just sits there with the message 'copying print data'!
    Running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 (11C74), with firmware SMC Version (system):          1.73f63.
    Any help gratefully received.

    First off if you can print a test page there is absolutely no reason you wouldn't be able to print from a application...none.  But stranger things have happened now that we have Lion.  Within the application are you selecting the wireless printer........just had to check.
    I have the MP620 which is simlar to your MP540 and have no problems printing from my MBA (June 2011).  I too have the latest firmware and software......without problems printing.
    A few things I'd try would be to remove the wireless printer from your computer (in Preferences, printers), restart, and repair permissions.  Then add the wireless printer back, and see if it works.  If not.....power OFF the printer and turn back on.
    If the above fails reinstall the printer driver (yours) I think you will have to plug in the USB cable.
    Keep me updated and I'll tyr and help!
