Canon users, try Image Capture for cameras

I have seen a couple of threads that cameras don't work. Mine didn't... I have a 790is. Just use image capture that is in your applications folder.

If you have CanoScan Toolbox X installed (provided with the Canon 9950 Scanner) go to Advanced option after clicking on either the Scan-1 or Scan-2 button. To do this, Click on Scan in the popup menu that results from activating either the Scan-1 or Scan-2 button. This should put you in the ScanGear CS screen. On the right is a vertical menu bar. Click on the Advanced Mode and then click on Select Source. This gives you options for negative scanning.
I found using the masks supplied with the scanner is helpful keeping the image square on the screen after scanned image is transferred to

  • Problems with Image Capture for Epson Scanner

When using image capture for my Epson scanner, at the Image Correction, when I select Manual I get no menu options.

There is no Epson scanner utility for Mountain Lion, it appears. Even Epson's FAQ defers to Image Capture and says it only provides software for image modification.

Unfortunately Image Capture completely fails to provide the service it should be expected to. The 3rd party software VueScan seems like it would be adequate once I learned how to manipulate it a little more, but ultimately the only decision I can justify is to hook up the scanner to my Windows PC and use the TWAIN-based scan utility there.
If there's anywhere I can make an official plea to Apple to get Image Capture in a workable state, feel free to point the way.

  • Canon 400D RAW & Image Capture & raw image update - Fail

I got my macbook pro about a month ago and of course was anxious to try out my camera ( Canon EOS 400D). I'm using RAW images. It worked fine. No problems.
But then comes the update a week or two ago. Of course I download it, it's an update... What could go wrong . Then, today, I connect my camera again to download some photos I took. Image capture launches as usual, but what happens when I try to download (some/all, no difference) the photos from the camera? Nothing! The program hangs up and Force Quite Applications says (Not Responding).
Well, I'd try with iPhoto, but no success, because the camera is no longer recognized. I reboot the computer and try again. Yippee! The camera is recognized again, but there is no success with downloading the images. Actually iPhoto doesn't even show the images in camera.
What to do? Anyone's got the same problem? Can I 'downdate' the system to get rid of the latest RAW update?
I do not own a memorycard reader because this method has been working always until today.
Oh yes, the camera is ok, because it works flawlessly with Windows XP and Vista.

I use Adobe Bridge + Photoshop to process RAW images. I really don't think the only answer to get by this problem is to buy more equipment, it's not the right way. There's a bug in OS and it should be fixed .
Anyway, I'm going to get the card reader, but I'm still waiting for this problem to be fixed some time in the future. If not for me, but for the new Apple users that have got used to connecting the USB-cord between computer and camera and everything works fluenty after that.

  • Stop Image Capture for iPhone?

I know I can stop Image Capture opening for all devices but is there any way of stopping it open when I connect just my iPhone? I find it useful opening up when I attach a camera but not my iPhone. I'm presuming not but just thought I'd ask.

that would be a nice feature, apple should take that as a feature request.
i wouldn't even need an option to configure all cameras, just two switches to configure launching image capture on/off when an iphone is connected, and when a photo camera (or cardreader with compact flash card etc.) is connected.

  • Image Capture for Epson Scanner producing very dark results

I recently upgraded to a new iMac running Mountain Lion. I have a new Epson Perfection v750 Pro scanner, which I use to scan film negatives. I had previously been working with this scanner on a Windows 7 PC. Using Image Capture, I am getting wildly different results -- the resulting scan is completely dark. Is there a setting that I am missing somewhere?
I've attached a little preview picture that shows the difference between a scan of the same image, with my PC vs my Mac.

  • TS1394 image capture for Snow Leopard

Which version of Image Capture should be in Snow Leopard Mac OS-X 10.6.8
When my wife attempts to run Image Capture 3.0.3 on her system (her Imac cannot be upgraded to Lion unfortunately)  is unable to run.
The error message is:  You cannot use this version of the applciation Image Capture with this version of Mac OS-X.
Is there anyone out there who knows which version should be on her system please.
    Raymond

For 10.6.8, Image Capture is version 6.0.1
What your going to need to do is backup personal data off the machine and disconnect the drive.
Pull out the 10.6.3 disk used to upgrade from 10.5 with, there is a bundled installer for programs, run that and see if that will update Image Capture.
If not then your going to need to hold c or option key down to boot from the disk and install 10.6.3 over itself, it also installs the bundled programs.
Reboot and immediately Software Update until clear, that will update OSX and bundled software to current versions.
Some third party software won't function after this, they will have to be reinstalled and updated.
You might also have other issues with that machine

  • Adding ZTIWipeDisk.wsf after image capture for reference VM

    Hi,
For the automation of the reference VMs I want to add a task to run the ZTIWipeDisk.wsf script after the image capture is complete. This is because the creation of VMs is too "complicated" in this particular customer environment, so I want
to wipe the disk to avoid the
“Press any key to boot from CD or DVD….” message from derailing the automation for reference image builds/updates.
I've added WipeDisk=TRUE in the customsettings.ini added a task at the end to run
ZTIWipeDisk.wsf, but it doesn't run, nor does anything get logged, so not sure if it's possible to achieve.
    Has anyone tried this before?

  • How to automatically crop images in Image Capture for import into iPhoto?

On my PowerBook G4 / Mac OS X 10.4.2, I'm using the Image Capture 3.0.3 application to capture images coming from scanning photographs with a CanoScan 8400F.
Can I get the Image Capture application to automatically set the crop frame on the overview? Other applications do that, but with Image Capture it seems that after I do the Overview (preview), I have to manually set the crop frame by clicking and dragging, before I can click the Scan button to do the scan?
P.S. It seems that iPhoto does not handle scanning, and you do have to use a different application to scan photos before importing them into iPhoto.
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

If you hide the details pane Image Capture will scan immediately to a specified folder. Other way is to open printers and faxing from the system preferences , select the scanning tab of your printer and click Open scanner. It will start scanning immediately without opening Image Capture. To set other software as default you should open Image Capture, select your printer/scanner and click the scanner buttons. It will then let you chose which program should be launched when you scan a document.

  • Image Capturing for DnD via Robot

    Ladies n Gents
I am attempting to enhance the drag and drop functionality of a certain jtable. Most of it works quite nicely, except, when I drag a row with no data; the image of the component physically under the jtable is captured and not of the row.
For example, if the jtable appears on top of jbuilder, when I attempt to drag a empty row (row with no data), a portion of Jbuilder is captured.
Is there a way to eliminate this unwanted behaviour? A related question may be, is there a way to capture a portion of the screen without using the robot class?
Any links, ideas, suggestions are appreciated.
    Cheers

thanks again for all the contributions.
The beta player is a SONY BVW-75P.(http://www.videoplusfrance.com/fiche_location/134/magnetoscope--betacam-sp.htm)
The video outputs i have at the back are:
    _1
    _2 (COMP/NON COMP)
    _3 (SUPER)
    _Ref Video
    _component 2 (Y/R-Y/B-Y)
All of these are bnc outputs.
    I also have one dub/component 1 output.
Audio is coming out of channel 1 and 2 of the audio output via xlr/rca adapters.
I've started dubbing directly to DVCAM tapes because i still can't get the non-controlable device capture to work.
i've looked as you suggested for an s-video output but can't find one on the deck. So right now video is outputting to the dsr through "Video output 1" with a BNC/RCA adapter.
The dsr is set to video.
As far as the beta deck settings go, i have
    TBC control set to local.
    TBC - bypass
    Video input - auto
    Rec inhibit - on
    Capstaan lock - 2fd
    Input select - composite
The firewire works with the dsr no problem. I can capture the DV tape is just dubbed with no trouble.
But just still can't capture now directly from the betasp deckk.
    cheers,
    tee.

  • Image capture for web-browsers out-of-the-box -- really no hopes?

    Hi all,
I planned to extend user's interface for my web2.0 app with a webcam. It looks for me like JMF is the only framework, which promises a multiplatform usage for web-surfers. Therefore, I tried some JMF code and some JMF samples already. However it looks for me now like one should rather forget about the installers providing an "out-of-the-box webcam support ready for housewives". I'd wish i am wrong.
Would you believe one can really make a simple installer enabling browsers like firefox, ie, safari and opera to upload a webcam snapshot by a single mouse click?
Thank you for your hints and comments,
    have a nice day,
    Valery.

    hi cat2014,
Welcome to the forums and sorry to hear about your sound trouble.
To check what's going on, can you provide these additional info:
    1. What's the model of your lenovo unit (eg. Y50-70)
    2. When you play a music file (ie. iTunes or YouTube), is the volume fluctuating but there's no sound comming from the built-in speakers?
       - Link to picture
If the speakers are enabled and the volume is fluctuating, this means that the sound adapter is okay and there's most likely a problem with the speakers. To check, try to:
      a. Use an earphone or an external speaker and observe if you can hear a sound
      b. Press the Windows Key +X and choose Device Manager. On the Device Manager window, navigate to Sound, video and game controllers and uninstall the sound adapter (ensure that you delete the device driver). When finished, do a scan for hardware changes. Windows will now use a generic sound driver and observe if you can how hear a sound from the built-in speakers
Let me know how it goes.
    Regards

  • Image capture for Imovie

I'm looking for a tool to capture video from the net and allow me to edit
it in Imovie. I've heard about flip 4 Mac, and Quicktime pro but I haven't tried them 'cause I'm a bit jaded. I'm not opposed to spending a little $ if the solution really works.
And.....I was wondering about an audio microphone for Mac. In voiceover, the built-in mic produces a quasi-cheesy sound quality. Any suggestions?

I'm looking for a tool to capture video from the net and allow me to edit
    it in Imovie.
... ehm, well not easy to answer... unluckily, there's no universal web-video format... actual counting: >4000 (read:fourthousand) codecs "available"…
sooo, what are the usual suspects?
    * QTpro handles the most "usual" on the web and the latest, e.g. as h264…
    * for conversion of mpegs WITHOUT loss of audio, you use the free tool Streamclip
    * wmv is popular in the PC world, flip4mac handles that.. (mostly… there are many wmv-flavors…)
    * divx/ 3vix / xvid … need additional plug-ins..
    * to convert .flv (as on youtube.com), you could use for free iSquint
    * … for some other you get plug-ins....
… if no plug-in work, Plan B) is a screen recorder as SnapzPro , but tricky to handle, because you never "catch" the right size => another conversion step => loss of pic quality…-
I would still have to convert any clips to a format compatible with IMovie? What format is that?
sure, iMovie is no all-purpose-all-kind-of-file-edit app... , iMovie is a video edit app meant to work with firewire connected miniDV camcorders, so any content HAS to be "dv"…
sorry for long post, but video from the net is no trivial issue...
    helpful?

  • Image Capture no longer working with Canon MG3250

I’m getting an error message when trying to scan from my Canon MG3250 using Image Capture this is over wifi but plugging in the USB cable doesn’t make any difference. Printing is working as normal.
I’ve used Image Capture to scan previously without any problem and have the drivers installed from Apple.
Open Image Capture, selected the scanner, which now has a generic icon. I get the following error message:
"Software for this device is not installed.
Scanning software for this printer is currently unavailable
Please contact the printer’s manufacturer for the latest software."
I tried Preferences>Printers & Scanners. Selected the Scan Tab and Open Scanner. This launched the printer utility Canon MG3200 series. I clicked on the Scanner icon. Where I get the same error as above.
Normally the software would auto download from Apple, but clearly looking at the Console log there seems to be a problem at Apple’s end:
    Console log:
20/05/2014 19:28:36.141 PrintUITool[411]: There are 2 drivers posted for Canon MG3200 series. Software Update server configuration must be wrong.
I've worked around the problem by going to Canon’s website and downloaded the scanning software:
    http://www.canon.co.uk/Support/Consumer_Products/products/Fax__Multifunctionals/ InkJet/PIXMA_MG_series/PIXMA_MG3250.aspx?type=download&page=1
I used IJ Network Scanner Selector EX to select the scanner and Canon IJ Scan Utility to scan, which worked after I made sure Image Capture was closed.
This doesn't fix the issue with scanning in Image Capture however.

Issue resolved by Paul Huntley on another discussion board.
"To scan with Image Capture you need to install the ICA v3.1.0 driver for selected Canon devices. This is a different driver package to the MG3200 Scanner driver that includes the Canon IJ Scan utility and does not work with Image Capture."
Installing the ICA driver resolved the issue and I can now scan again with Image Capture. I still don't know why it stopped working in Mavericks, or why Apple didn't auto install the driver when required.

  • Using Image Capture to scan with Canon Pixma MX700

I previously had trouble connecting my Canon Pixma MX700 to my MBP, but soon figured out that I needed a new high speed USB 2.0 cable, versus the old one I was trying to use it with. Doh!
So now it prints without any trouble at all, and I know that all its features - printing, scanning, fax, copier, are supposed to be compatible with Leopard.
However, I'm still having issues scanning. I Googled and found a comment somewhere that with this specific model, one has to use Image Capture for the scanning portion, instead of the Canon software.
Great, so that explained the problem I was having trying to figure out how to GET it to communicate at all with the MBP (downloaded the latest scanner driver from Canon with no result).
But it still will not scan with Image Capture. Communication is fine- the image is detected and I can see it perfectly in the Image Capture window, am able to change options, etc. Once I drag and select the image I want to scan and click the scan button, nothing happens. Or more specifically, the button will be click-able and for about two seconds it appears to be working (with the scan button substituted by a cancel button), but then the scan button will pop back up and nothing appears in the folder I specified the image to be saved to.
Now I'm completely stumped. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!!!

With my MacBook running Leopard, I had been able to successfully scan multiple images by pressing the MX7000 scan button and capturing the images with MP Navigator. The MX700 is networked over WiFi. Early on, I learned that it seemed to be more reliable to drive this process using the scan button, rather than trying to initiate the scan from the MP Navigator UI.
However, recently things stopped working, and after the first image was scanned, subsequent scans would fail, with MP Navigator complaining about not being able to connect to the scanner. This sounds similar to the problem described in the original posting.
I went to the Canon USA support site and downloaded /installed the latest versions of the MX700 scan driver (13.9.0) and MP Navigator (1.0.4), both available under the "Drivers and Downloads" section for the MX700 support page (be sure to select "Mac OS X" from the pull-down menu).
    http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDeta ilTabAct&fcategoryid=238&modelid=15651#DownloadDetailAct
The new updates seem to have solved the problem, and I can now scan multiple images one after the other. Again, I always initiate the scan from the button on the MX700, and always capture using MP Navigator, which has the really nice feature for creating and editing multi-page PDFs.

  • Image Capture won't recognise scanner

Until recently (10.6.5?) I have used Image Capture very successfully to scan with a Canon MP610 multifunction printer, preferring its no nonsense simplicity to the Canon software (MP Navigator EX).  But opening Image Capture to initiate a scan now results in an interminable delay before the printer shows up in the Devices pane on the left of the window while the message "No camera or scanner connected" is displayed in the centre pane. The delay is usually several minutes, sometimes longer and then I give up and go back to MP Navigator.
I have tried remedies suggested in other forums (deleting and re-adding the printer, resetting the printing system, changing the USB port and prayer) but to no avail. My research suggests that this issue also occurs with other brands of printer.   I thought that the 10.6.7 update might have sorted it but it didn't.  Does anyone have any other suggestions so that I can resume digitising 30 years worth of photos?

I would look for apps that would use the USB port, such as other imaging applications for cameras. If you check Activity Monitor you can also see what background services are running - could be something here that sticks out, especially if it is from another printer/camera vendor or even another Canon application for that matter.
Checked the USB port situation - only the printer is using one.  To my relatively untutored eye, nothing sticks out from Activity Monitor.  I plug in a Canon camera quite often but it's not connected right now.
Another thing you can try is creating another account and then logging in with this account. If this other account works okay then you can look at some service starting just for your main account. This could be found in Accounts > Login Items or Home folder > Library > LaunchAgents.
Created a Test account and logged into it (goodness me, how my normal admin account has changed!) but the problem still remains.  The LaunchAgents folder contained a file named com.macupdate.desktop5.scanner.plist and I immediately thought this is it but, no, trashing it made no difference.   Login items are
    iTunesHelper
    Butler
    AppTrap
    YouControlTunesEngine
    MagiCal
    iphoto buddy menu
    Rainlendar2-Lite
    Captur
    DropCopy
    SurplusMeterAgent
    FontExplorerXAutoload
    CornerClickBG
    finderpop-daemon
    Dropbox
    SophosUIServer (All Users)
which will give you some idea of how my mind works but probably little else.  Many thanks for your suggestions...

  • Using iPhoto or Image Capture to download photos

I'm looking at a new Canon camera and under the Mac compatibility section, the manual says that you can download images from the camera using 1) Image Capture, 2) PTP, or 3) Canon's proprietary software. Does that appear to be saying that you can't just plug in the camera and import photos directly into iPhoto like I can do with my current camera? Or does Image Capture just work as a bridge between the camera and iPhoto more or less transparently? If I do have to use Image Capture for the downloads, then can I take photos from wherever Image Capture puts them and import them into iPhoto using Import to Library?

    William:
Which Canon camera are your looking at? All of the Canons that that shoot RAW formate and are compatible are listed here. All the other Canons are compatible.
IMO it's best to use a card reader and manually import to a folder on the desktop first and then import the folder into iPhoto. You can name the folder with identification of the photos inside and the resulting Event will have the same name. The delete the folder from the desktop and have the camera reformat the card for the next shoot. This saves wear and tear on the camera's port and battery and will avoid the potential upload cancellation due to low battery which can damage the library.
You can do the same thing without a card reader with Image Capture. Whatever you do, DO NOT let iPhoto delete the photos from the memory cards. Too many incomplete or aborted imports and complete deletions reported.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
