Canon Vixia HF R 300 connect to Zoom  H4N

Is it possible to connect the Zoom H4N directly to the Canon HF R300 so the the audio is synced to the video rather than in post production? I have imovie 11.

First let me say that I am not a PluralEyes user.
I think that PluralEyes3 would work for this limited purpose.  If all you want to do is to sync audio from the H4N to video clips from a single camera and continue to use iMovie, then PluralEyes will do it.
If you wanted to sync one or more audio sources and/or one or more video cameras, then PluralEyes would not do this unless you moved away from iMovie and went to a pro editor like Final Cut Pro, Avid Media Composer, or Adobe Premier.  These editors have support for multicam clips.   In iMovie, you would have to manually sync the various camera angles, much like I described above.
For an example of a multi-camera project, think of a music video where you have a camera shooting a wide angle of the band, a camera shooting the lead singer, a camera on the lead guitar, and a camera on the drummer. You might also have a master audio track, the audio tracks from each camera, and an audio track from isolation microphones on each instrument. In this project, you would want everything synced, and you would want the ability to make rapid cuts between the various cameras, and even to have the ability to temporarily boost the guitar audio as you are doing a closeup on the guitar player.
What you should know is that Final Cut Pro X has a very powerful syncing feature that will sync multiple audio, multiple cameras, etc. There is no need for Plural Eyes (although some legacy Final Cut Pro 7 users may be more comfortable with PluralEyes so they continue to use it.)  The Final Cut Pro X version of multicam is more powerful than PluralEyes, although unless you are a pro using multiple camera angles, you may not notice, except for the smoother workflow.
So the choice to me would be
1) Do I spend $200 on Pluraleyes and get the ability to sync one camera with one audio source and continue to use iMovie?
or
2) Do I spend $300 on Final Cut Pro X and get multicam sync functionality built in, plus a great many more features as well.  The caveat on Final Cut Pro X is that it is a pro tool. Even though it superficially looks a lot like iMovie and uses Projects and Events just like iMovie, there is still a significant learning curve. On the other hand, you can easily import iMovie Projects and Events into Final Cut Pro and continue to work on them there.
Just to muddy the water a little more, you can sometimes find deals on iTunes Gift Cards. Here is a Best Buy deal that offers a $100 iTunes Gift Card for $80. (Note: I think this is in the US only.) Buy three of these and you can get Final Cut Pro X for $240. (This deal may expire soon, but is still active as I post this. However, Best Buy and others run these promotions periodically.)

  • Canon Vixia HF G10 problem connecting to iMovie 11

I also believe this camera to be called an FS11, but I am not sure....Using a USB cable to connect the camera to a Mac Book Pro and iMovie does not see the camera...I have not tried the HDMI or Firewire cable....prior discussions on this board indicate getting iMove 08 or later and it working with a USB cable....anybody have any luck?

    Found a quick work around....
    1. Copy movie from the internal drive to a SD card in the camera
    2. Insert card into slot in MacBook Pro
    3. Download open source program, HandBrake
    4. Convert MTS files to MP4
I have yet to determine if it converted it to Standard Def from High Def.
What was ineresting, QuickTime played the MTS file but iMovie would not recognize it....

  • Canon Vixia HF 100

I updated my Mac Mini 1.66Ghz Intel Core Duo, 2GB RAM, to Leopard 10.5.6 with ilife 09.
I was told this should allow my Canon Vixia HF 100 to connect to imovie via USB. I'm still unable to transfer footage, only still pictures. I know other people are getting files from this camera to imovie, what am I doing wrong?

    I am concerned about your problem as well. I also have the HF100 camcorder. reading the minimum specs for iMovie 09 (http://www.apple.com/ilife/systemrequirements.html) it lists;
Intel-based Mac, Power Mac G5 (dual 2.0GHz or faster), or iMac G5 (1.9GHz or faster)
Your mini with a 1.66Ghz processor could be part of the problem, is you mini a core dual processor?
Does anybody know if the Core 2 dual 2.0Ghz mini is the only mini that will run iMovie 09 using the AVCHD video.

  • Having trouble using a Canon Vixia HG20 HD video cam in Adobe Connect Pro. Any suggestions?

Anyway to disable the builtin isight camera and let the Canon Vixia HG20 be the default when it's connected ? I have a Macbook Pro with OS 10.9.4. it doesn't recognize the Canon Vixia HG20. Only the built-in isight camera is used by ACP. I'd really appreciate any suggestion on this very frustrating situation.

It is probably not recognized because the OS doesn't see your camera as a webcam. There is a Windows application to get around this, but I've not heard of one for Mac. If anyone has, please share.

  • Trouble connecting Canon Vixia HV 40 over Firewire, should I use FW800?

iMovie won't recognize my Canon Vixia HV40 using my standard firewire 400 port (6-pin). I saw another thread discussing this issue indicating that this may be due to other devices on the firewire chain, so I'll try the direct connection, but it's a nuisance since I store all my digital media on my Firewire drives.
But my iMac also has a Firewire 800 port (4-pin), that I don't use. Does anyone have a perspective on using the Firewire 800 port?
    Thanks,
    Eric

As noted in other posts, Canon recommends that the camcorder be the only device connected to the Firewire port, and that it is powered with an adaptor rather than battery. Presumably, these condition are met by having only the camcorder plugged into the firewire 800 port but other devices plugged into the firewire 400 ports (although I did try with them disconnected as well). That takes care of getting the camera recognized, but with iMovie 9, my iMac did not have the resources to pull more than 10 minutes of in full HD video. However, iMovie 6 did import the 1080i HD video in real time - I have not checked to see if there are any differences in the quality of HD video between iMovie 6 and iMovie 9, but my immediate need was to get the movies (game films) onto DVD asap, and iMovie 6 helped me do that.

  • Canon Vixia HF R52 camcorder/blu ray recorder/direct connection?

I just bought a Canon Vixia HF R52 camcorder and would like to connect it directly to a blu ray/DVD recorder to burn discs without using a computer.  In the Manual, Canon says it is possible and even sent me an email stating "The camcorder is compatible with any blu ray disc recorder that supports AVCHD version 2.0"  Unfortunately, Best Buy Geek Squad is clueless and Canon ABSOLUTELY REFUSES to recommend/suggest what brand/model recorder I need.  (I had a Panasonic camcorder that finally died on me and Panasonic had its own DVD burner for it.)  Any help out there?  Anyone burning discs directly from your Canon camcorder?  THANKS!

Did you use Premiere Elements' Video Importer to get  the video from the

If, with  everything set up right, you're still having problems, it could

  • HT5012 I am trying to connect a canon VIXIA X to iPhone to view what I am recording on my iPhone. Can I do this

I Am trying to view on my iPhone what I am recording on my canon VIXIA x. How do I do this

I sounds like that is not a feature of the uploader all.
Built-In Wi-Fi. The mini X's built-in Wi-Fi allows you to easily share MP4 video recordings and still images over the Internet via social networking sites such as YouTube and Facebook using the Canon iMAGE GATEWAY# online photo storage service. You can also transfer files to a home or office PC. Uploads can be made virtually anywhere using an iOS mobile device and the free Canon Movie Uploader app. HD video can also be shared via Wi-Fi using compatible home or office wireless networks, wireless hotspots and iOS-compatible mobile phones and tablets using the Movie Uploader app.
Note: Devices supported for Canon Movie Uploader app include iPhone 4S/5/5S, iPad 2, iPad 3rd/4th gen, iPad mini, iPod touch 5th gen

  • Canon VIXIA HF R30 wifi transfer to FCP?

I am considering getting a Canon VIXIA HF R30.  I'm concerned about compatability with FCP.  (I have version FCP 5.1)  The product information says "
Built-in Wi-Fi™ opens up a world of new possibilities, giving you the connectivity and immediacy you expect today. The VIXIA HF R30 camcorder is a sharing device, ready to send your video wherever you like..."
It would be wonderful to import to FCP without wires - and is it possible?

FCX is $300.  There is no upgrade cost, that is THE cost.  You cannot open older projects with that version unless you buy third party plugins, like 7toX...or whatever it is called.
The main thing is that FCX is unlike FCP in just about every way possible.  Download the trial and see if you like it. Free for 30 days.  But I believe it requires LION...Mac OSX 10.7.  At least 10.6.8.  Purchaseable only at the APP store.

  • MacBook Pro won't recognize videos on my Canon Vixia HG20

I have a Canon Vixia HG20 and had no trouble copying video to my Mac laptop in the past. Now I have a MacBook Pro and when I connect the camera with a USB cable, the videos are grayed out and the computer doesn't recognize them. The videos play fine on the camera itself. Also, the still photos show up on the computer and transfer easily. I've seen older posts & sites (2008, 2009) that are related to this issue, but I'm not sure they apply anymore. Any new help for 2012 out there? Please explain in layman's terms, as I am not very technically literate. Thanks!

Go to the Canon Drivers and Software page here and download the March and April software updates for OSX Lion. This should help in transferring video.
There is also a firmware update for the camera here.

  • How do I import video from my canon vixia hv40 into imovie?

How do I import video from my canon vixia hv 40 into imovie?

First decide which editing program you intend to use; iMovie, FCE, FCP, Adobe Premier, etc. Read the user's manual or Help files for your chosen application to determine the steps needed: the procedure will vary somewhat from application to application.
Next, with the camera and the computer off, connect the Firewire cable to both units, then power up. Set the camera to VTR (play) mode. Open your editing program and follow the instructions provided in the Help files for capturing DV footage from tape.
Do NOT expect the camera to mount on your desktop as if it were a hard drive or optical disc.

  • How can I get Premier Elements to recognize my Canon Vixia  HV40 to record tape from it?

I recently installed Adobe Premier Elements 12 on my new Lenovo U310 Ideapad computer.  I opened the program and was able to transfer a clip from a file transfered to me from a smart phone recording and start assembling a new home movie.  However, when I tried to get video footage from my Canon Vixia HV40 tape camcorder, I received a message "No HDV camera connected.  I then used my older Canon Vixia HV20 camera and changed the USB connecting cable, but that camera too was not recognized.  In the past, I had been succesfull using an older version of Premie Elements to get footage from my Canon camera.  Is it possible that this new Premier Elements 12 is not programed to pick up  these Canon video cameras or is their some way around this problem.  My new computer does not have a 1394 input.

    TR Snevac
As far as I have ever seen reported DV or HDV data capture into Premiere Elements Capture Windows (any version) does not work unless the connection is firewire. And, there are occasions (especially with HDV capture firewire) the require that the capture firewire be done in HDVSplit and then the split clips imported into a Premiere Elements project via the typical Get Media/Add Media route.
Which version of Premiere Elements allowed you to do a DV or HDV capture firewire in to its Capture Window using a USB connection? From what you wrote it gave me the impression that you were saying that you had.
If you have followed the protocol for HDV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements 12 (with correct project preset)
    http://help.adobe.com/fr_FR/premiereelements/using/WS5CDA0F91-60F1-4b79-ABF6-E9E75F498DB2. html#WS2AF26FB5-4C63-4c46-9DB3-7249558F6528
then you would need to explore the use of HDVSplit (firewire connection) and then import of the .m2t split clips from that process in to Premiere Elements 12 (Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets).
    http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm
If both these Canon camera are miniDV camcorders, then you need a firewire connect to the data capture into Premiere Elements Capture Windows.
Do you have access to a computer with a firewire port?
    Or
Does your computer have what is referred to as a PCMCIA slot for use with a firewire card? Have you looked into the possibility? No sure if that will work for you.

Hello. • How can I download video from a Canon Vixia HF M30?

I just purchased a Canon Vixia HF M30. The salesman said I could download into iMovie, but nothing on the instructions say anything about Mac, only Windows. And the cable that connects the camcorder to USB has a message attached to it that says, “STOP! Be sure to install the software from the enclosed CD-ROM before connecting the video camcorder to your computer with this cable.” But the software is Pixela, only for Windows! Solution? (By the way, I have MPEG Streamclip and other converters if that is helpful...)

You don't need to install any software, all you need to do is insert either the SD card or connect the camcorder. I have the same camcorder and what I love most is its solid integration with Mac. My last camcorder did not integrate with FCE but did with iMovie.
These methods work with iMovie and FCE/FCP
    Insert SD Card:
    1. Just plug it in to the built in port or with a USB adapter.
    2. Open the iMovie capture screen or the FC Log and transfer.
    3. Select the clips you want and import them.
    4. Your done.
    USB Cable Method:
    1. Plug the respective ends into the camcorder and the computer.
    2. Put the camcorder into playback mode and select the Computer option.
    3. Open the respective capture tools that were mentioned in the previous method.
    4. Import the clips you want.
    5. Your done.
Hopefully I was some help. The M30 is a great camcorder.
