Canon vixia hf r500 streaming video?

Hello all,
I recently purchased a Canon Vixia hf r500.  I bought it because I was told you could stream video with it.  I run a weekly podcast where we stream the video live on upstream.  I've been trying to figure out how to use this as a webcam but I've been left scratching my head.  Is there anyone familiar with this camera and how to pull this function off?
When I plug in via USB the camera is recognized as a mass storage device but when I opened ustream the camera is not found.
Thanks for any help you can give.

You may need to use the HDMI cable and a video capture device.  I'm not sure the USB port can be used for streaming video.  You might be able to use the optional STV-250N Stero Video Cable and connect it to a video capture device but I don't think the quality will be near as good as using the HDMI cable.  However using the optional cable and a compatible capture device would be less expensive than the HDMI option.

  • Highest Quality Recording Setting for Canon Vixia HF R500?

What is the Highest Quality Recording Setting for Canon Vixia HF R500?
    Is it AVCHD 60P 28 Mbps or MP4 60P 35 Mbps?
Does the higher bit rate of the MP4 format mean that it is a higher quality recording or not?

    Hi Greg_Jay!
    Thank you for posting.
The highest quality is MP4 60P 35 Mbps.  Generally speaking, the higher the bit rate, the better the quality.

  • Canon VIXIA HF R500 - 'Task in Progress'

Each time the camera is turned on, the camera comes on as normal then after a couple of seconds I get the following message 'Task in Progress.  Do not disconnect power source.'  The camera will turn on after this message and I am unable to restart the camera.  Regardless of how long the particular battery is left on the camera (for it to finish its task), its the same scenario each time.  In order for me to be able to get the camera to turn on I do have to disconnect the battery and reattach, otherwise the camera is completely nonresponsive.
NOTE: The other battery pack (which also came with the camera) works perfectly fine without this concern.
    Thoughts?

  • HT3395 canon vixia hf21 wont transfer video

how can i trassfer video from my Cannon VIXIA HF21

    Hi Guys,
You may be my only help to bring sanity into this madness. Last week I tried my Vixia HF200 and it worked with no problems whatsoever. I plugged in the camera into my IMAC USB and WALAS, video content appeared as available for capture under the Log and Transfer Window.
Today, I plug in my camera again, and as soon as I do, Iphoto comes up and shows me the available picture content. But when I go to Log and Transfer, nothing!
If I go to Imovie, the clips can be imported via the import function.
Of course, I want to use FCE 4.0.1. What could be going on? I've tried setting the folder as explained on many other forums, but nothing.
    Thanks for your help!

How to delete videos from Camera's built in memory drive?

    PK,
You can delete the scenes that you don't want to keep by following these steps:
Open the index screen that contains the scenes you want to delete.
Touch the check mark to open the scene selection screen.
Touch the individual scenes you want to delete.
    Delete the scenes.

  • Import from SD Card from Canon Vixia HFM301

    Hi there,
So I got this new Canon Vixia HF M301 HD video camera that use SD cards. I've taken some video and want to see how it looks.
I thought that I would be able to import the video right from the SD card, but I can't see to figure it out. I have a brand new iMac and I can see the card and the files, but I could not see how to import them in FCE. Maybe that can't be done.
A little gentle help in the right direction, please.
    Thanks, Mark

Thanks Tom, I saw another post on the subject about the same time you answered.

Issue: What folder are the videos stored in on the camcorder?
Solution: List of the directory and file structure of AVCHD camcorders
For users who wish to "drag and drop" the video files created by the camcorder the videos can be located by drilling down thru the following folders.
Double click on the removeable disc drive icon to display the root folder of the drive.
Double click on the [AVCHD] folder
Double click on the [BDMV] folder.
Double click on the [STREAM] folder. The video files are located in this folder with a .mts file extension.
    - Depending on the software you are using the file extension may need to be renamed to .m2ts to be useable in your playback or editing software.

  • MacBook Pro won't recognize videos on my Canon Vixia HG20

I have a Canon Vixia HG20 and had no trouble copying video to my Mac laptop in the past. Now I have a MacBook Pro and when I connect the camera with a USB cable, the videos are grayed out and the computer doesn't recognize them. The videos play fine on the camera itself. Also, the still photos show up on the computer and transfer easily. I've seen older posts & sites (2008, 2009) that are related to this issue, but I'm not sure they apply anymore. Any new help for 2012 out there? Please explain in layman's terms, as I am not very technically literate. Thanks!

Go to the Canon Drivers and Software page here and download the March and April software updates for OSX Lion. This should help in transferring video.
There is also a firmware update for the camera here.

  • How to view original video files from my Canon Vixia

    Hi -
I have a Canon Vixia camcorder and I cannot find a way to view the original mts files on my iMac.  I hate to say this, but my old windows laptop to does this without any issue, so that's what I'll continue to do until something changes.
When I mount the camera on my Mac, it only shows one giant AVCHD file.  I have read the posts about using iMovie to import the AVCHD file and then export the individual clips, but frankly that ***** for a few different reasons that I don't really feel the need to explain.
Why does Mac not allow me to simply view the files as they are on the camera?  I don't edit with iMovie, I edit with Premiere and the original mts files are just fine with me.  I love my iMac and all my other Apple products, but let me view my files! ...please?
    Thanks
    Joey

AVCHD utilizes a proprietary container format. The MTS files are in there, you just have to know where to look.
Navigate to the root directory of the memory card. You should see a rather large (depending on how many clips are on there) file called PRIVATE. You need to right-click that and select "Show Package Contents". Inside, find the file AVCHD, right-click it and select "Show Package Contents". Inside, find the file BDMV, right-click it and select "Show Package Contents". Inside, find the folder STREAM and open it. You should find the MTS files there.

  • How do I import video from my canon vixia hv40 into imovie?

How do I import video from my canon vixia hv 40 into imovie?

First decide which editing program you intend to use; iMovie, FCE, FCP, Adobe Premier, etc. Read the user's manual or Help files for your chosen application to determine the steps needed: the procedure will vary somewhat from application to application.
Next, with the camera and the computer off, connect the Firewire cable to both units, then power up. Set the camera to VTR (play) mode. Open your editing program and follow the instructions provided in the Help files for capturing DV footage from tape.
Do NOT expect the camera to mount on your desktop as if it were a hard drive or optical disc.

  • How can I download video from a Canon Vixia HF M30?

I just purchased a Canon Vixia HF M30. The salesman said I could download into iMovie, but nothing on the instructions say anything about Mac, only Windows. And the cable that connects the camcorder to USB has a message attached to it that says, “STOP! Be sure to install the software from the enclosed CD-ROM before connecting the video camcorder to your computer with this cable.” But the software is Pixela, only for Windows! Solution? (By the way, I have MPEG Streamclip and other converters if that is helpful...)

You don't need to install any software, all you need to do is insert either the SD card or connect the camcorder. I have the same camcorder and what I love most is its solid integration with Mac. My last camcorder did not integrate with FCE but did with iMovie.
These methods work with iMovie and FCE/FCP
    Insert SD Card:
    1. Just plug it in to the built in port or with a USB adapter.
    2. Open the iMovie capture screen or the FC Log and transfer.
    3. Select the clips you want and import them.
    4. Your done.
    USB Cable Method:
    1. Plug the respective ends into the camcorder and the computer.
    2. Put the camcorder into playback mode and select the Computer option.
    3. Open the respective capture tools that were mentioned in the previous method.
    4. Import the clips you want.
    5. Your done.
Hopefully I was some help. The M30 is a great camcorder.

I am having trouble trying to import video files from Canon Vixia hfs10 to imovie'11. The computer does not even recognize this camcorder. When I do a PC connection, iphoto comes up, but all it tells me to import are the pictures that I have taken.

When I try to import it on imovie, I only get an option for facetime camera and not my vixia.
