Canon Vixia HFM301 camcorder lens cover not opening?

I dropped it and now lens cover does not open but camera records video and stills okay when I hold shutters open. How can I remove lens cover or keep shutters open?

Aight...so here is the deal. Today morning, I tried recording from my same camcorder but with a different SD card and then upload to imovie and voila it worked like a charm. So maybe my card got corrupt somewhere down the line? But its weird that day before it worked and now i can only see contents from the Finder but not imovie.
Anyways, I plan on copying contents off my old card, reformatting it within my camera and then try using it again to see if anything changes.
Again, thanks for the help.

  • The lens will not open

I have a Power Shot Elph SD1300.  The lens will not open when I turn the camera on.  How can I fix this?

    Hi BP,
I'm sorry to hear that the lens on your PowerShot SD1300 IS has malfunctioned.
First, please try this:  Remove the battery pack from the camera and close the battery compartment.  Now Press and hold down the power button for 5 seconds.  Replace the battery pack and turn the camera on.
If your camera works normally, you're ready to start shooting.  If the issue persists, your camera will require service to resolve this issue.  I regret the inconvenience this causes.
The age of your camera and/or the cause of the error will determine your service options.  If the camera is more than one year old, or if the camera was damaged by liquid, sand, or applied pressure or force, it is out of warranty.  We have two options available for out of warranty cameras:  You may participate in the Canon Loyalty Program, or you can send the camera in for repair.  If the camera was purchased less than one year ago, and you have a copy of your sales receipt, the unit can be sent to our Factory Service Center for repair.
One option you have is the Canon Loyalty Program.  This program allows you to replace your current camera with a refurbished Canon Camera for a discounted fee, and have it shipped via Ground delivery.  The refurbished unit offered through this program carries a 90 day warranty.  The original non-functioning camera would then be returned to Canon USA for recycling using a prepaid shipping label that would be provided.  If you would like to take part in this option, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 seven days a week, 8am to Midnight.  Let them know you have been working with email technical support and the Canon Loyalty Program was offered.  Be sure to have your serial number for your camera at the time of your call.
If your camera is in warranty, or you prefer to have it repaired, please forward your digital camera to the Factory Service Center shown below.  When shipping your camera, please be sure to remove the memory card and battery.  Please do not send any accessories or manuals when shipping the camera.  Be sure to include your name, street address (no P.O. boxes, please), telephone number, and a letter describing the issue with the product.
As we do not provide RMA numbers for service, we suggest using a traceable and insurable service (i.e. UPS, Federal Express, Priority Mail) to ship your camera.  Please package the camera very securely to prevent damage during shipment.
Please send your camera to the following address:
    Canon Factory Service
    12022 Canon Boulevard
    Newport News, VA 23606
Upon arrival at the Factory Service Center, your camera will be logged in to our repair database and assigned a repair number.  Next, the camera will be visually inspected and you will be advised of the findings.
A written estimate will be sent to you at the address that you have provided.  The repairs to your camera will not begin until you approve this estimate and make payment arrangements.  If, after receiving the estimate, you do not wish to have the camera repaired, please inform the Factory Service Center of your decision as soon as possible.  If you decline the estimate, the camera will be shipped back to you unrepaired.
When the repairs are complete, the camera will be shipped back to you via Federal Express or UPS.  The length of time for the repair will be dependent upon the nature of the repair and availability of parts, if needed.  Usually, repairs are completed within approximately seven to ten business days of payment.
Once you have confirmed with your shipper that the camera has been delivered, you are more than welcome to contact us for repair updates.  Please include your name, address, and telephone number, as well as the serial number of the camera, in all repair status inquiries.
For non-warranty repairs, the standard labor cost to make the repair is $109.00.  Parts may be an additional cost.  Cameras damaged by liquid, sand, or applied pressure or force may have a considerably higher repair cost, depending on the results of the Factory Service Center's evaluation.

  • After updating Camera Window DC, camera lens will not open

I had been for a few years using with no problems my Powershot SX100 IS with the software provided at the time of purchase on an earlier Macmini. I would connect the power cable and usb cable and was able to take macro photos of coins etc.
I recently switched to a new Macmini and installed the software from CD (solution disk ver. 31.1) that accompanied the PowerShot when purchased. I did notice not everything was able to install as previously. So I updated from the software on your site to  include Camera Window 8.9.1.5, but now my PowerShot SX100 IS lens will not open while connected to my Mac.
The software installed is as follows: ibxm-inst-1-1-0-17-u01-9l.dmg.gz, psx-upd-3-2-6-28-r8-u03-9l.dmg.gz and cdx-inst-8-9-1-5-u01-9l.dmg.gz.
    What can I do?

    footlooze,
Because of how new OS 10.9.1 is, there is not a version of CameraWindow DC that is officially compatible yet.  I recommend that you continue to visit the website as new updates are made available in the future.

  • PowerShot S50 lens cover not operating OK .. lens not extending. Not supported. Repair suggestions?

Hi I have a PowerShot S50 (10 yrs old and still great). The lens door is not sliding back easily - make take a lot of juggling - and therefore the lens does not extend for picture taking.  When I get the door open/lens extended, the camera is operational. It is difficult to close the lens door again to protect lens.
I see the PowerShot S50 is no longer officially supported by Canon for repairs.  Any suggestions where I can send this for servicing.  The camera has served me well until now.  I'd hate to have to get another camera for what appears to be a small mechanical problem.
    Thanks for any suggestions.

Ah well... Froze again today after seeming ok for a week. Have ordered a new SIM card in case thats linked. The only thing that had changed when I rmeoved and re-inserted the battery (to turn on phone) was that the general profile had been reset, i.e. standard keypad tones on and Nokia tune instead of my own mp3. everything else still intact. at least I didn't lose all my messages and bookmarks like the old days.
I really cannot wait for the next phone to come out so I can just buy a new one and be done with it.
N82 has been the best nokia I have ever owned despite all the hassle.
@ Kavi6233 - Have tried the restore factory settings etc MANY times... It makes no difference. This has been happening 6 months on and off and I have tried EVERYTHING possible. different battery, no applicaitons installed, no mem card inserted, factory retart, latest firmware etc etc still happens randomly. Also had it repaired in nokia care centre.they said it was repaired and tested fine. and it was, for a week

  • Import from SD Card from Canon Vixia HFM301

    Hi there,
So I got this new Canon Vixia HF M301 HD video camera that use SD cards. I've taken some video and want to see how it looks.
I thought that I would be able to import the video right from the SD card, but I can't see to figure it out. I have a brand new iMac and I can see the card and the files, but I could not see how to import them in FCE. Maybe that can't be done.
A little gentle help in the right direction, please.
    Thanks, Mark

Thanks Tom, I saw another post on the subject about the same time you answered.

  • Canon MP610 - MP Navigator EX will not open - crashes

So I bought my MP610 yesterday, came home, unpacked and set it up, installed software and drivers - all I want to do is scan something important but MP Navigator EX refuses to open. I went to the Canon site, downloaded and installed latest drivers etc. but the result is always the same... whenever i double click the MP Navigator EX application I get a message saying -
The application MP Navigator EX 1.0 quit unexpectedly and when I click on the option to Reopen I get -
The application MP Navigator EX 1.0 quit unexpectedly after it was reopened
    - This is the Error Report -
It's 8 pages long so I think it's best not to post it! However, these are the first two lines -
    Exception: EXCBADACCESS (0x0001)
    Codes: KERNINVALIDADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x58000000
If anyone can divine error reports I would be happy to post the lot!
Please help - it's so frustrating to buy a product and follow all the instructions to the letter and then not be able to use the machine!
    Cheers

    Hi PaHu,
I think I'm getting myself into the deep and sticky here. I've not used Image Capture before so I read through the Help files before I started - it seemed quite straightforward and I was able to set Adobe Photoshop 7 as the app. that the print colour icon on the MP610 'links' to (i.e. the button that is either 'colour' or 'Black') I also changed the field next to 'Automatic Task" from Preview.app to Adobe Photoshop 7. However, as soon as I clicked on overview and selected the area I wanted to scan (even though I had two photos on the platen I could only select an area of one of them - is this normal?) and then clicked the Scan button I got the message advising 'The application Image Capture unexpectedly quit. Nothing else is affected blah blah blah.
I went to Finder and double clicked Image Capture, this brought up the Scan dialogue window headed 'Canon MP610 Series' The fields are -
    Download to:
    Name:
    Format:
    Automatic Task:
    Occurs after scanning
Then there are two buttons at the bottom of the dialogue box - the one on the left says Options...
the one on the right says Scan...
Clicking either of these buttons causes the return of the dreaded message 'The application Image Capture unexpectedly quit etc. etc.
It seems that whether I use MP Navigator EX, Preview or Image Capture as soon as I try to Scan it causes the app. to 'unexpectedly' quit. I've never had something like this happen before so I'm not sure what could possibly be causing it.
Should I uninstall the whole Canon Utilities folder and start from scratch - I just can't work out what's going on at all.
I'll be back on the boards later this morning but that's it for me for tonight!
    Cheers

  • Capturing AVCHD video from a Canon VIXIA HG21 camcorder to FCE 4.01

Video captured at the highest resolution MXP i60 seems to stutter after importing to FCE 4.01. I know that playback on a computer monitor will show these signs but after burning with iDVD and played on a TV set, it still is jerky when panning a moving image.
I've read most of the posts concerning this. I have read that FCE will only accept 29.97 frame rates in several posts and other posts show "i60 presets support both 60i and 29.97 frame rates".
I read where I should reset my FCE preferences but I don't seem to have any. I looked in Library Preferences and could not find a "com.apple.finalcutexpress.plist" or the "final Cut Express User Data" folder.
Sure could use some help from those who use that camcorder and FCE.

I also shoot and edit with the HG21 but haven't experienced any such problems. Do your sequence settings match your clip settings in every regard? You definitely shot in 60i and not 30p? Did you fully render your sequence before exporting?
I've found there's a lot of interlacing when panning quickly, but it hasn't been jerky for me. Does it appear this way on the camera too? It may have been that you did not pan smoothly enough (such as with a good tripod).

  • How can I get iMovie to recognize my Canon Vixia HFM500 Camcorder?

I'm using iMovie 11, and I cannot figure out how to get it to recognize my camcorder.
These are things I've already tried:
    - camcorder is connected to AC power
    - camcorder is in connection mode
    - tried iMovie already open when camera connected
    - tried camera connected before opening imovie
    - ran software update on computer
    - restarted computer
    - turned camera on and off
Any other ideas?  Thanks a lot!

Do you get any other ideas from iMovie '08 or later: Cannot see or control camera?

  • CPI file HELP!!!  I have a huge problem.  I just discovered that the files that have been downloaded from my Canon VIXIA HF100 camcorder are all ".cpi" files.  The worst part is that the files were erased from the memory card and camera.  HELP!

So basically I cannot redownload any of the files (which are all my daughter's videos from birth through age 2) and am stuck with just the CPI versions.  Is there a way to convert them?  If not, are there any programs that will play CPI files?  I had downloaded a free player a few months ago, but now I cannot find anything anywhere.  PLEASE HELP!  Thanks!

CPI files were originally a proprietory Sony format. You can read more about that here, including details of the applications that can convert them:

  • I have a Canon Vixia HV40 camcorder.

I want to transfer the digital video tapes it produces to DVD using an iMac. Do I need some kind o patch to do that?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Goldbtik29!
    Thank you for posting.
You can transfer the video recorded with your HV40 to your computer by connecting the camcorder to your computer using a DV cable.  The DV cable connects to the HDV/DV terminal on the camcorder, then to an IEEE1394 port on the computer.  Then, set the camcorder to the playback mode.
You will need to use video editing software to bring the video over, process it how you want, then record that to another media format, like a DVD.
