Canon Vixia HV39 1080i 24p possiblein iMovie '09

Hi
Does the Canon Vixia HV30's 1080i 24p work in iMovie '09 and iDVD '09?
Thanks
NBK

Thanks for responding Sheryl,
Voltaic only works with AVCHD, not HDV that my Canon Vixia HV30 uses...

  • Canon Vixia HFM 31 import to IMovie

I tried to import a movie from my Canon Vixia HfM31 into IMovie and the resulting .mov file was huge...like over 1g for 5 minutes of video.  does this make sense?  Someone at apple support said I should import to Mp4 format but I don't see that option in the import process when the canon video camera is attached to the Mac.  Any suggestions?

What I'm doing is taking my video and using iMovie to edit it. There is no way to save the iMovie video back to the camera (either the HV 10 or the Canon HF 21S.) So, I save the completed movie to the USB drive. I have to change the exported file name to .mp4 extension first. Then I plug the USB drive into the Blu Ray player and play the video on my Samsung 55 inch TV. Works great. The only limitation I've found is, as I have said, the 4 gig limit on the USB drive. I have had to take most movies and process them in 2 parts to keep down the file size. Doesn't matter, because the Blu Ray player will automatically jump to the next file after it plays the first. Just have to name them so they will load in the correct order. When I said that I wasn't sure about reformatting the drive to Mac OS, I meant would the Samsung Blu Ray recognize and read the files if they were saved on the USB drive with that OS. It is important that everything will be compatible with the Samsung. That is why I could not save the .mov file to the USB drive. It will play the file if it has the .mp4 extension, but not the .mov. You do not have to change anything but the extension.

  • IMovie "does not see" videos from my Canon Vixia HF M32 and shuts down. Any ideas?

Lately, I have not been able to download videos as I used to from my Canon Vixia HF M32. My iMovie would not see the camera and would often close unexpectedly. It then gives an incomprehensible error message. I have no idea why this is happening or what to do. I was able to dowload some videos using a pc and a different software. Any clue?
    Thanks

iMovie HD (version 5 and 6) works only with Firewire cameras, DV or HDV.
Footage from other types of cameras can be converted for use. Try VoltaicHD and convert to Apple Intermediate Codec (1080i or 720p) for HD footage or DV for SD (Standard Definition) footage.
If all you want to do is creating a DVD, go for SD footage in the DV format. A DVD is always SD.

  • Canon VIXIA HV40 Camcorder

I hope this is a straightforward question: is the Canon VIXIA HV40 Camcorder compatible with iMovie 09 and, if so, how can I get iMovie to recognize the camera.
    Any help most thoroughly appreciated.

How do I import video from my canon vixia hv 40 into imovie?

First decide which editing program you intend to use; iMovie, FCE, FCP, Adobe Premier, etc. Read the user's manual or Help files for your chosen application to determine the steps needed: the procedure will vary somewhat from application to application.
Next, with the camera and the computer off, connect the Firewire cable to both units, then power up. Set the camera to VTR (play) mode. Open your editing program and follow the instructions provided in the Help files for capturing DV footage from tape.
Do NOT expect the camera to mount on your desktop as if it were a hard drive or optical disc.

  • Cannot import video file from Canon Vixia hfs10 to imovie'11.

Hi this is my first post on this site.
I am having trouble trying to import video files from Canon Vixia hfs10 to imovie'11. The computer does not even recognize this camcorder. When I do a PC connection, iphoto comes up, but all it tells me to import are the pictures that I have taken.
No matter what I do, I cannot find the folder for my camcorder in the device section in the finder.
When I try to import it on imovie, I only get an option for facetime camera and not my vixia.
    Please help!

  • How to get my imac to recognize my canon vixia hf40 in imovie?

    Hi Apple Support
i just bought a new iMac and a Canon Vixia HFM40 and can not get iMovies to recognize the HD video/camera ....using the USB connection from the camera to the iMac , the photo came in lighting quick,
the camcorder has an HDMI out on the camera . but my new iMac does not have an HDMI port. Do I need to get a cable that will allow me to have the HDMI output out of the camcorder and input to the iMac via firewire..... please reply ASAP, because if i can't use this Canon camcorder to put in HD video to my iMac than I want to return this product to a iMac compatible camcorder....
    thanks

So I understand correctly: you said you used the USB connection and it worked?
Here is some information on iMovie compatibility:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iMovie/9.0/en/mov39f84bc2.html
And here is some info on the firewire > hdmi connection:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=641911
If the USB worked, why don't you use that? I also just looked at some of the specs and it appears you can use SDXC cards with it? I have a Canon that uses SDHC cards; my iMac does not like it either, but there is a simple workaround: I simply use a USB high speed card reader and plug it in - the SDHC card icon shows immediately and I can import the footage. So, you could easily try that - it would make things much easier.

  • IMovie crashes as soon as I start upload from Canon Vixia HF R100

I have two SD cards with footage from a Canon Vixia HF R100. The first one (8 GB) with about 12 minutes of footage on it uploads perfectly fine to iMovie. The second one (8 GB) has only one minute of space left on it. When I insert the second SD card into the video camera and connect it to the computer through the USB it crashes iMovie as soon as I hit "import from camera". So here are my questions: what could be causing this? Also how could I fix this or at least work around it through a converter? I would prefer to be able to upload directly to iMovie or Final Cut; as I'm only uploading to iMovie so I can bring it into Final Cut
    Thanks,
    Iggy.

which manual are you talking about? the camera does show up on the desktop but will only let me view photos from there not video. when i try and open it from final cut as a folder it also just uploads the photos to the program.

  • Will imovie 11 (version 9.0.8) be able to import the MP4 files from the Canon Vixia HF R 400?

I realize the camcorder is just available now but I assume the MP4 files are the same as in the R300 from last year. I just want to be sure that imovie 11 will be able to import andedit the MP4 files from the canon Vixia before I purchase the camera.I understand that imovie has trouble with some MP4 files and works fine with other ones. I don't want to transcode into another format and generate gigantic files of data. I also understand that the videos with AVCHD has better video but I prefer a easier workflow. I imagine one day Apple in it's infinate wisdom will eventually support AVCHD.

    two options:
    • not exhausting - go to
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/cameras/en/index.html
these devices are tested by Apple 'bout functioning with iM
    choose one = works. guaranteed.
    • exhausting - learn about codecs, containers, bitrates .....
in short: AVCHD is a standard, details e.g. here at wiki
standard means: some settings are conform, some not. example: no 120fps in AVCHD.
    note: there's vers1 and there's a new vers.2 .......
    mp4 - just a container, or 'wrapper'.
means: like a box of chocolate, you could never know what's inside. example: 120fps in mp4.
    but ........
    AVCHD nor mp4 are 'codecs'.
    here comes h.264 - could be in a AVCHD/mts, could be in a mp4.
    iMovie: respects standards.
    does NOT import non-standards-conform files/videos/datas.
encode a 1080video as 30p/h264 = would 'fit' into AVCHD
    encode a 1080video as 60p/h264 = would 'fit' into AVCHD2 (=not supported by iM11), would 'fit' into mp4 (= iM11 supported) ...
mp4 is more ... 'open minded', more general; lacks therefor stuff like gps location data and other meta-tags.
the next iM13 should support AVCHD2, it's bigger brother FCPX does .....
    last word:
iMovie is NO general 'cuts all movin' pictures'-app!
it is meant for consumer convenience with consumer devices.
=> supports the most 'popular' standards. not anything.

  • IMovie '11 on Mountain Lion does not see Canon Vixia HG20, Lion does

I have 2 Canon Vixia HG20s and an HG21 that I had previously used with iMovie. When I plug the cameras into any of my Mountain Lion systems, iMovie does not see the camera to import from. On my MacBook it only sees the EyeSight camera.
I know I had imported from these cameras when I was still running Lion. In fact, I still have one Mini running Lion Server. I installed iMovie onto it and plugged in one the HG20s. It immediately recognized it and offered to import the videos. I unplugged it and immediately moved it to the MacBook with Mountain Lion, and it's not recognized.
The one thing I'm not sure I have tried is on another Mini that was upgraded from Lion to Mountain Lion. I will be trying that tonight.
What can be done to allow me to import my videos, something I USED TO be able to do?
    Thanks!

Wow. I looked at some of your other posts and found a few hints that I tried. I deleted all the com.apple.iMovieApp.plist and .cache files/folders in various locations and tried again. Now iMovie sees my camera!
Hope you figure out your issue!

  • Is imovie compatible with canon vixia M50?

Is imovie compatible with canon vixia M50?  I have the latest version OSX 10.8.2

I cannot find it on this list:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/cameras/en/index.html
That does not mean it will not work, but if you haven't purchased the camcorder yet then I recommend limiting your search to those known to be compatible. Better yet, limit your search to manufacturers that specifically indicate iMovie compatibility.
Panasonic does; I am not certain about Canon.

  • IMovie Crashes When I Hook Up Canon VIXIA - New Problem

Hi all - I have a Canon VIXIA HF200 camera, which has worked perfectly with iMovie until this weekend. I have iMovie 8 (7.1.4) and like I said it's worked great until recently. Now, iMovie launches fine but when I hook up the Canon video camera via USB, iMovie crashes. I did accept an iMac system update recently so I am wondering if this is related. Help???

    Hi
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Delete iMovie pref file
    iMovie pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. (one or more of these)
    com.apple.iMovie.plist
    com.apple.iMovie3.plist
    com.apple.iMovie7.plist
    com.apple.iMovie8.plist
    and find
    com.apple.iApps.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this/these file/s out to desk-top.
    Now restart iMovie.
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
    • Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
    • Screen must be set to Million-colors
    • Turn off Mac and disconnect Mains/Power for 20-30 minutes - will at least re-set FW-port
    • Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
    • Problems in iPhoto Library can affect iMovie to crash on start-up. Re-build this first then try to re-start iMovie.
    This You do by
    _ close iPhoto
    _ on start up of iPhoto - Keep {cmd and alt-keys down}
_ now select all five options presented
_ WAIT a long long time

From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.

I run "Cache Out X", clear out all caches and restarts the Mac.

  • Imovie 11 and Canon Vixia R400

I am considering purchasing the Canon Vixia R400 and want to be able to use imovie 11. I understand that AVCHD does not play well with imovie unless it's transcoded but this camcorder can also record in MP4 files. Would this mean that imovie will be able to handel without needing to transcode the file first?

I would recommend that you get a 4 pin to 9 pin firewire cable. You can get a good price at www.monoprice.com. Many people have reported trouble with those adapters.
Also, make sure camera is plugged into wall power. Battery power will not work for this.

  • IMovie 11 & Canon VIXIA HF G20 HD

    Hi Gang
My freind is using a Canon VIXIA HF G20 HD to import clips into iMovie 11. Camera is recognized, seems to work fine, but would like to export HD to use in FC6. It was assumed iMovie 11 is not the best way to prepare/export the MT files for FC?
Someone recommded ClapWrap for 10.6, thru his Mac Mini, (we tried it), but the camera isn't being recognized.
If he stays with iMovie as a 'capture intermediary', what are the best export settings to be imported into FC6, then later for HD Disc?
    Thanx
    Mike

    Hi Meg
As per Shane, I actually just tried to get 'Clipwrap' for my own G5, and couldn't find a version for 10.4.
If I'm understanding this correctly, you'd have to have something to start with - some type of file that was pulled off the camera - correct?
The problem is, only iMovie 11 will aceept clips from that camera, and export Via its own version, (whatever that is?)
Are you saying that Clipwrap has a built-in capture software to connect to the camera?
    Thanx
    Mike
