Canon Warranty ???

I see a number of posts lately by private sellers not, Canon authorized dealers, in various buy and sell forums advertising BNIB 5D III with warranty like this example:
" 1 year warranty applies until 12/3/2013. I will provide you a copy of the sales receipt and blank original US warranty card for you to be able to use warranty if ever needed."
It is my understanding that the warranty is non transferable from a private seller or am I wrong?

Hi, rddelliot, thanks for posting!
You are correct in your thinking; the Canon manufacturer's warranty is non-transferrable, and applies strictly to the original individual that purchased the camera. We hope this assists in your decisionmaking process!

  • No need to buy from Canon Authorized Dealer

Looks like if it's new Canon will provide warranty service. That's good news for everybody, the price from Non Authorized Dealer is usually cheaper!. BigValueInc sold 500 5D III for $2400 last week.

  • Does anyone have experience with warranty service on "white box" lens purchases?

I am considering the purchase of a 24-105 L series lens.  Amazon lists that lens in the $800+ price range for what some call a "white box" version that is apparently taken from a full frame camera kit and sold separately.  I am curious to know if anyone has had any experience with Canon warranty service on such purchases.
I can buy the lens used in my local market for under $700.  If the additional amount I would pay provides a warranty, I may consider buying the lens new in a white box to have the warranty protection in the event any adjustments are needed to the lens during the warranty period.  Some posts I have read on the internet give the impression that auto-focus adjustments are sometimes needed and the 60D I own does not have AF micro-adjustment capability so my only recourse for adjustments would be to have the lens serviced.
    Thanks.

I would call Canon to get a definitive answer.
However, If you are in the U.S., you need to make sure that the lens has has a U.S. warranty card. As long as the lens has the warranty card, I think Canon should accept it for service.
As a kit lens, it's packaged just like a non-kit lens withouth the printed box, but once you open it, the inside packaging appears to be the same.  Again, I would make sure that that "white-box" lens has not been opened and that all of the registration/warranty cards are for the U.S.---especially if the seller is an Amazon "partner."

  • Macbook Air and the Canon Pixma MG2200

    Hi,
I moved to England and am still using a Macbook Air from the US. I recently purchased a Canon Pixma MG2200 printer and would like to use it...however it will not work on my mac. I've download the necessary software, restarted my computer, purchased the correct usb chords, etc. It just simply won't appear on my computer at all. Any advice?

I had a similar problem with my Canon printer but after it had been working.  It stopped wirelessly connecting to my MBA but did connect wirelessly to our MacBook.  I turned it and my MBA off, waited, turned them back on and it did not fix the problem.  Then we had some electrical work done on the house and the power was out for 15 minutes.  That fixed it!  So the first action I suggest you unplug it, wait a minute or more and then plug it in again.
I found it useful to install the software form the CD provided with the printer rather than downloading the drivers.  The download options were confusing with different drivers for different functions and the scanner did not work from the System Preferences > Print & Scan menu until I installed the software from the CD.
If all else fails contact Canon.  It could be DOA and clearly is covered under the Canon warranty.

  • What's wrong with my T2i?

I just purchased a 2nd hand T2i and it looks like its in pristine condition. I decided to take a few test photos with the kit lens (I dont have any other lens to work with at the moment) and immediately noticed a thin line appearing in every single photo taken. Here's a few examples:
    http://i.imgur.com/3Qe7mPA.jpg
    http://i.imgur.com/LHZujTC.jpg
note: all lines appear about 3/4 from the bottom of the photo.
The crazy thing is that the line doesn't appear when I take video. The video comes out perfect.
Does anyone have any idea what this is? Is it the camera itself or the lens? Is it an issue that can be fixed or is the camera defective?
    Thanks so much in advance.

    A few places to check:
Canon's online store has a "Refurbished" section.  These cameras have the advantage of having been checked out by Canon and having had any issues corrected.  They also come with a 1 year Canon warranty.
    See:  http://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/en/catalog/cameras/refurbished-eos-digital-slr-cameras#
I don't see any T2i bodies in stock on the refurb store, but I do see the T3i with the kit lens (18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS) for $479 -- but they're currently running a deal which knocks another $50 off that price bringing it down to $429.  Not a bad price for a working camera that comes with a warranty.
B&H Photo and Adorama are known for their online stores, but they also have a used camera store.  Their used cameras don't necessarily have warranties (although sometimes they do sell "refurbished" cameras as well) but they do get a grade which fairly assesses the condition of the camera.
KEH.com is known for their used gear exchange.  They also have a very good grading system to rate the condition of the gear.

  • My EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS lens has developed serious lens creep. Is this normal or are seals bad or ?

My EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS lens has developed serious lens creep.  Is this normal or are seals bad or ?  I don't recall it being an issue at first.

Does it happen? You bet. But is it normal? No. However most zoom lenses of this type will creep sooner or later if you use it a lot.
Depending on how old it is, you may get Canon warranty to service it. They can tighten it up. My 24-105mm f4 L does that too.
I just live with it as this lens has seen a lot of duty.
This is actually a pretty nice lens. I was thoroughly impressed with the one I got to try.

  • Is canon rebel t3 comes with factory warranty ?

I brought this camera on NOv 28 2013. And battery kind of low now. I need new battery. I'm wondering if it's cover by warranty before buying new one.

I am going to guess, if I understand your question correctly, the battery is not covered.  But a low battery can be more than just the battery.
It could be a faulty charger and/or anything related to the charging of the battery.  Typically Canon batteries last for years.
Or it could just be how you use your camera.  For instance do you shoot a lot of video?

  • Canon stopped supporting Canoscan 9950F on Apple, but still on Windows 8.  What can I do to fix this?

Upon upgrading to the latest Apple release, my Canon Canoscan 9950F no longer works.  After dialoging with the Canon representatives, the offered me a "discounted price" on new hardware.  They support Windows 8, but decided not to support Mountain Lion.  What can I do?  I have a $400 dollar paper-weight that I don't want to send to the landfill.
"Thank you for contacting Canon product support.  Due to the age of the scanner, Canon has decided not to support the CanoScan 9950F on 10.8.  For customers in this situation, Canon offers the Canon Loyalty Program.  This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service, or for some reason are incompatible with a new or upgraded system.  This option allows you a one-time opportunity to purchase a replacement product, discounted from the list price."
Note - if I have to replace this, what is the best scanner to use for film and negatives?

Since you purchased Lion at some point, I wonder if the most cost effective move would be to spend under $100 for a new USB3 external drive, and install Lion and your 9950F scanner drivers there. Boot external when you want to scan. Drive visible to Mountain Lion desktop for shared files. The USB3 drive is backwards compatible with USB2. Western Digital has some portable Mac drives here. The 1TB is $99 at Best Buy in the U.S.
If you still have a machine running Lion, you can boot into Recovery and have it install onto the new USB3 external drive. Otherwise, it is another Lion download. Do not run the installer. Then you let Lion Diskmaker build you an external, bootable USB Lion installer stick.

  • On my canon powershot A3300IS the lense is stuck in the extended position and will not close

I have a canon powershot A3300 IS  the lense is stuck in the extended position and will not close. How can I fix this myself?

    Forneypamela,
Please remove the battery from the camera for a few minutes.  Then, put the battery back in the camera and power it on again.  If the lens is still stuck in the extended position, the camera is going to need service.  I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

  • MacBook Pro won't detect network printer Canon MF4150

I have a multifunction printer, Canon MF4150, hooked upto a PC Desktop and I have enabled printer sharing. The printer is detected and works fine on my PC Laptop. However, when I try installing it on my 13" MacBook Pro, the **** thing won't show up. It doesn't show up under the Windows category of Print and Fax so I tried to set it up the way Apple has suggested in their support section. It asks you to go to advance and input the IP address and location of the printer and then select the printer driver. I would post the link but I conveniently can't find it right now. The printer driver is obviously not listed on the list, so I go to the Canon website and download a mac version of the driver and install it. When I check to see if it's on the list now, it says MF4360-MF4390, but not MF4150. I thought I had installed the wrong one but I downloaded and installed it again, and I got the same problem. Anyone have this printer or have a similar problem? Another way to hookup this printer would be much more convenient, is there anyway that the Window tab could detect it? Any help is appreciated!

The warranty must be close to running out. Take it ASAP to the Apple Store or AASP and have it checked.

  • Where to buy Canon original accessories ??

The original boxes with some accessories of my new purchase. 7D Mk2 and 24 70 F4IS were taken by somebody from my front porch. (My bad. I put the Canon boxes inside a snow thrower box. The big box was left outside the front porch pending sorting for disposal and it was gone in an hour)
Now, I just have the camera and lens plus chargers and caps. Everything else is gone.
I am looking to buy back whatever is missing. I have emailed Canon e-store but have not received reply from them. Any suggestions where to buy back the missing cable protector, USB cable, disc, lens hood, lens pouch and others.
    Thanks for any experience shared.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I'm trying to figure out what "everything else" is that's gone missing.
The lens would have included a storage bag, the lens hood, and a front & back cap.  It would have also included an instruction sheet (you can download that electronically) and the warranty card (but you can register that online and don't need the card.)
You can get a list of everything that would have been in the box here:  http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/slr_cameras/eos_7d_mark_ii#BoxContent
    Basically it would have had
    - camera body (which you have)
    - body cap (not sure if you have that, but that's easily replaced)
    - Canon wide strap for 7D II (and this would have had a small rubber eyepiece cover on the strap for taking long exposure shots.  But if you've attached that to the camera -- and most people do -- then I suspect you still have that.
    - Battery charger LC-E6 (but I think you said you have that)
    - Battery LP-E6N (but I suspect that was probably in your camera if you have the camera - so hopefully that's fine)
    - USB interface cable (you probably lost that, but fortunately it's easily replaced and it's a standard cable you could pick up most anywhere.  Just make sure the USB cable has the USB "mini" connector on the camera side AND that (very important) the cable is not a "charging" cable.  These cables are often used for charging mobile phones and those cables typically don't wire the data pins... just the power pins.  The camera needs a cable with "data" pins.
    - Digital Solutions Disk (downloadable at Canon website - no loss there.  In fact the download is probably more current than the disk.)
    - Instruction manual (also downloadable)
    - Warranty card (but you can register the camera online and do not need the physical warranty card.)

  • Can't import from Canon Optura 10 into iMovie

I just bought a MacBook Pro 15 inch specifically for making/editing movies. I connected a 9pin-4pin DV Firewire Cable to my Canon Optura 10 (set in Play/VCR mode). The other end of the cable was connected to the Firewire port on the MacBook Pro. I opened up iMovie. Nothing pops out. I tried importing but only the MacBook Pro's built-in camera pops out.
The DV Firewire Cable I'm using is one year old. I never used it until now. Since I bought it (1 year ago), it's been stored safely in its package. It has a lifetime warranty.
Can someone please suggest or help me? Thanks. I am very disappointed right now because I bought this MacBook Pro for only one reason --- to edit my movies --- and that doesn't seem to work so far.

    Hi
May be You find help in my list.
    *NO CAMERA or A/D-box*
    Cable
    • Sure that You use the FireWire - USB will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin FW one ?
    • Test another FW-Cable very often the problem maker.
    Camera
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toogle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
    • Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
    • Camera connected to "charger" (mains adaptor) - not just on battery
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
    Connections
    • Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
    Mac
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
    (Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minmum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited.
    SoftWare
    • Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into this and have a re-try.
    • Any strange Plug-ins into QuickTime as Perian etc ? Remove and try again.
    • FileVault is off ? (hopefully)
    Using WHAT versions ? .
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie 8 (7.1.?) ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
*Other ways to import Your miniDV tape*
    • Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
    • If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After uninstalling Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.

  • Knock-off Ink Queers Canon Printer Output

Sorry, I didn't know where else to go with this.
I have about a 4-year old Canon color printer. It used to print very nicely, if slowly. To save money I bought a package of that knock-off printer ink at Costco. I've been having trouble ever since. The print-out colors are not the same as the on screen color. They seem to be faded or otherwise 'off'. Colors seem to be having trouble mixing.
Yes, I have gone back to using authentic Canon cartridges. Yes, I have cleaned the heads with alcohol and clean cloth. Yes, I have done deep cleaning, head alignment, etc. My friend, who recommended the knock-off ink has also been having trouble with his Canon printing, too.
We wonder what can we do? Any ideas?

I would agree with Ji~m's assessment; you may have not printed enough to clear the channels in the print head to purge all the problem ink. I'd suggest you run the printer's cleaning routing until the problem clears up. Note, though, that some cheap knockoff ink can cause permanent problems with the printer, for which the only solution is an expensive repair or replacement of the printer.
For the future, be very cautious about using any ink not from the printer's vendor or approved by them. Some ink works fine and some, as I said, can completely (and in some cases permanently) mess up your printer. Many vendors will balk at honoring a warranty for any problems that may be related to use of non-approved ink.
Good luck; I'm afraid you may need it.

  • Problem with my new (refurbished) Canon Rebel t4i. Anyone know what's going on?

So, my girlfriend got me this sweet Rebel t4i for Christmas. I'm still learning how to use it, but it's giving me a problem, and I don't know if it's because something's wrong with the camera, or if I'm doing something wrong.
85% of the time, when I try to take a picture or video, instead of taking the picture, it just says "BUSY" on the screen. Sometimes the flash buzzes and flashes light, but no picture. Sometimes if I hold the button down for an extended period of time it will take a picture, sometimes it just fritzs out.
I really like this camera but because of my schedule I haven't found time to sit down and really figure it out. There's a warranty on the camera, plus it was purchased recently, so I need to know if I need to send it back.
I can take a video of what it's doing if that'll help.

There may be nothing wrong at all... this sounds like the camera isn't able to focus.  If there isn't much light on your subject (e.g. shooting indoors) and the subject doesn't have enough contrast in poor lighting, then the issue would be normal and not a camera problem at all.
By default, the camera is in "One Shot" mode -- but a side-effect of One Shot mode is that the camera uses a behavior called "Focus Priority".
Focus Priority says that the camera is told NOT to take a photo UNTIL it can confirm that it was able to lock focus on something.   Depending on the available light, the camera may struggle to do this.  There must be enough light.
But the camera has one more trick up it's sleeve... it can use the flash as a kind of focus-assist light.  It pulses the flash rapidly (which will making a buzzing sound) in order to add enough light to the scene so that the camera can hopefully lock focus.
Once it can lock focus, it's happy to shoot.
If you switch the lens to manual focus (set the "AF/MF" switch on the side of your lens to the "MF" position -- that's Manual Focus), THEN the camera is told that YOU are taking care of focus and to just shoot whenever you press the shutter button (there will be no delay -- of course the camera wont even attempt to focus.)
For action photography, you can put the camera into "AI Servo" mode which continuously tracks focus on a moving subject.  But a side-effect of AI Servo mode is that the camera uses "Release Priority" behavior instead of "Focus Priority" behavior.  In this mode, the camera is told to take the shot as soon as you fully press the shutter release (hence the name) and it will do so EVEN if the camera did not finish focusing (normally you'd half-press the shutter and wait for it to focus -- you can also configure a back-button to focus as well.)
Take your camera outside during the day and try shooting when you KNOW there is plenty of light.  It should have no problem.  Inside... it needs enough light.
Canon's 430EX II speedlight flash has a red focus-assist beam built into the flash.  When you use that flash it will use the focus-assist beam on the flash to focus the camera (the flash projects the beam through a red lens in the lower part of the flash -- and the camera is able to lock focus on the pattern being projected by the beam.)  You can even use the flash to create the focus assist beam EVEN if you don't want to use flash (you can tell the camera to disable the flash -- in which case it will just use the beam but wont fire the flash.)
    Hope this helps!

    Tim
