Canon WIFI Blocked by Firewall

The Canon app WirelessCameraServices is an allowed connection in my firewall preferences yet the connection of my Powershot S110 is stopped shortly after it connects to my MBPr. If I disable the OSX firewall, the Canon WiFi connection works perfectly for transferring images. I have tried reinstalling all Canon software from the DD with the firewall off and removing and adding the exception in the firewall preferences, all to no effect.
I have the option to leave the Firewall off as my modem also acts as a firewall but this seems to be too dangerous as the MBP is a mobile device which I use for work.
Any ideas?

You can execute some kind of firewall util (if any) and parse output to receive configuration and check is address blocked or no. But if you have no admin rights - it will not help you.
Actually there is no clear way to detect was packet blocked by FW or just lost somethere.

Canon MP620 Printing, Scanning, FireWall blocking

After updating to 10.6.7, my Macbook Pro was prompting to allow the networked "MP620" inbound access through the firewall. It did this every time that I printed. The truth is that MP Navigator had had similar problems when I scanned for a while, but I do not scan that much, so it was just an annoyance.
I looked at the firewall and security settings, and all of the relevant software were set to allow incoming connections. I recreated the printer definition too, but none of that helped.
Finally, I went back into the firewall's advanced settings, and deleted any reference to Canon software, including MP Navigator, and then restarted and clicked "allow" when prompted for the by the Scan Utility and MP Navigator. That is the fix.
Some of the software, such as the Canon Printer Utility, never reappeared in the firewall list, making me suspect that the current version is signed, whereas an older version was not.
When software that is referenced in the firewall list is upgraded, it seems to be best to delete references to it out of the list and then reauthorize it.

I found the same solution when testing for the OP in this post. As we both have surmised, it appears that the new Canon printer driver set is signed and no longer needs to be listed as allowed applications. It would have been nice if this was mentioned with the driver update...

How would I contain guest Wifi network in firewall?

I would like to implement a guest wifi network on my preexisting private network and can't figure out the security on my firewall. Currently the link connecting my private network to the internet is functioning fine and I really don't want to change this link into a trunk as I believe trying to reconfigure the trunk and security lists in the firewall would cause downtime. I would like to use a second interface on the firewall (5520 ASA with 8.2 software) as a trunk interface for my guest network and any other new VLAN in the future. My main concern is at the Core of my network the default gateway is the private IP for my internal firewall connection. If the guest network is connected to my core device going to the ASA, how do I specify a second default gateway on the core for the guest network on the ASA?
After writing this I realized, what if i connected a switch directly to the second trunk interface on my ASA and then used this IP as the default gateway for the guest network? I believe this should work but this leads me to one more question:
Say I wanted to allow my quest network access to a specific server on my internal network, would a proper configuration be to setup the ACLs on the firewall, allowing them to communicate to my inside network?

Yeah I suppose changing the existing interface to a Trunk would not be possible without somekind of downtime unless you used an untypical configuration.
Sadly, my personal knowledge of wireless networks and the devices is almost nonexistent as we have different people to handle setting up those.
But I would imagine you can use a separate Vlan for the Guest Wifi and bring that Vlan to the new ASA interface only. If your actual core switch is doing routing, in other words if its acting as a L3 switch then you should probably add the Guest Wifi Vlan only as L2 to the core switch and configure it all the way to the new ASA Trunk. Default gateway as you say would be the IP address configured on the ASA itself.
Controlling the traffic from the new interface on the ASA should be pretty simple.
access-list GUEST-WIFI remark Allow traffic to internal server
access-list GUEST-WIFI permit tcp host eq
access-list GUEST-WIFI remark Deny All traffic to Internal networks
access-list GUEST-WIFI deny ip any
access-list GUEST-WIFI remark Allow All other traffic
access-list GUEST-WIFI permit ip any
access-group GUEST-WIFI in interface
The above ACL first allows some traffic to a certain internal server with a certain service. It then blocks all other traffic to the internal network. Finally it allows all other traffic. That would be all traffic destined to external public networks.
Naturally you would need possibly Static Identity NAT configurations (since you are using 8.2 software) to enable connections from the Guest Wifi to Internal network.

I figured out why my iPod couldn't do wifi sync and that was because my AVG firewall was blocking it. I turn it off and it is shown in iTunes. I turn it on and it is disconnected. I'd like to know how I can configure my AVG firewall to allow the iPod to use wifi sync. Please help.

How do I avoid websites hanging on load due to elements being blocked by firewall

I am currently in China. As you may know China employs a pretty nasty firewall to keep discussion of sensitive topics at bay. The problem is many western based websites have been blocked by this ie. Facebook and Twitter. I don't normally visit these sites, however many sites employ elements that rely on content from these blocked sites, so when I'm loading a website, it tries to load data from a link to Twitter for example, but it fails to continue loading the rest of the data from the actual site that I'm visiting while this happens (because the twitter data is blocked). Is there anyway to make it so Firefox skips over these blocked elements, or make it so the rest of the page loads up with the other elements are still timing out?

I haven't used elements in 6-7years so apologies if I miss the mark.
Am assuming videomerge merges the layers down to simplify timeline (akin to nesting?! in Pr) as haven't come across this before. Either way you probs shouldn't need to do so - put each video in a separate layer and crop and move as you have done and render and should come out great as one video file (no need to then video merge).
If you do insist on video merge, move the central big size video to the bottom layer with the 4 small ones to layers above. Then when you merge down the side videos won't get obscurred
Or use garbage matts - look in effects and should be there. Drag and drop on each clip and move cornersto selct area you want to keep just as you would for a crop. See if that sorts your problem out.
Re Premiere Pro. Great piece of software but more complicated so might not suit your needs (though may do) but not cheap (even with edu discount) if not using it for your job (check creative cloud subscription cost). Worth checking out DaVinci Resolve 11 if you want pro software (which is now free as a result of buyout)- mostly for colouring but also has editor. If you do start making decent money on Youtube (though for all I know you could be! :-) ) and want to get into some complex editing and feel limited by Elements, then definitely get pro - you won't regret it at that stage in your editing.
Finally, your screenshots genuinely look very impressive, I like the split view and nice to see people pay attention to lighting - I think lighting and sound are just soooo important (more so than what camera and lens) and far too often overlooked.

Since a recent Firefox upgrade, I have a section of one of my online banking sites that will no longer open....says it is being blocked by Firewall. Wasn't a problem before I upgraded a few days ago.

One of my online banking sites runs contests to win cash from time to time to encourage use of the site. Prior to a recent upgrade of Firefox, I had no problem opening the necessary pages. I am now being told that those particular sites are being blocked by my Firewall. The area in question is basically a "flag" you click on to guess which of three "umbrellas" you want to open for a chance to win money. These flags are located in various parts of the online banking site; i.e., make a payment, transfers, summary, etc.

I can only guess because I've never seen such a message...
Does it help if you completely turn off Firefox's pop-up window blocker?

You might want to check with the bank's tech support in case they've run into this before.

Library Sharing blocked by firewall despite settings

Just updated to iTunes 10.5 on my "first Intel generation" iMac, which runs 10.5.8.
Library sharing worked previously (iTunes 10.4.something), but now my other Macs and iDevices can 'see' that the library is there to be shared, but cannot access any content. The appfirewall.log shows:
Firewall[42]: Deny iTunes connecting from 10.0.1.5:55709 uid = 0 proto=6
whenever I try to access it from another machine/device.
Meanwhile, the Firewall settings in the Security pane of System Preferences show iTunes.app with "Allow incoming connections".
I have tried:
- adding and removing iTunes.app from the Firewall list of apps
- restarting the system
- turning off library sharing within iTunes and turning it back on, including re-naming the library
It continues to fail the same way every time.
Has anyone else encountered (and hopefully solved) this problem?

Yes I have been struggling with this for months.
I have concluded that the firewall is broken and simply needs to be avoided, turn it off, don't use it. Adding iTunes to the allowed list should work but it doesn't. Look at your logs, you'l see the many instances of the firewall blocking itues access even though you have specifically told the firewall to allow it.
Annoyances like this destroy the Apple myth: "It just works."
Scared of opperating without a firewall turned on? Get Lil Snitch and use that instead. The Apple Firewall doesn't work anyway, we've seen that as described above. So how can you be sure it is blocking any nasties? You can't. Turn it off and your problem is solved.

Edge Inspect works great except localhost pages being blocked by firewall

Hi,
I switch the Windows 7 firewall off and the localhost pages show up on the Edge Inspect app on the iphone4, so then I tried to re-configure the firewall, namely allow Edge Inspect, Bonjour, and Mobile Device related rules all allowed, but the localhost pages are still being blocked.
Any help with how to re-configure the Windows firewall for much more Edge Inspecting would be appreciated!

I have placed the following rules both inbound and outbound to allow both Edge Inspect and Bonjour to use 7682 for all domains using the TCP protocol. (Is that the correct protocol?)
After applying these rules though the firewall still blocks Edge Inspect.

Can a port be blocked if Firewall is turned off?

I'm trying to configure a Retrospect Server running on a OS X 10.3.9 Server, and for some reason the server is not connecting to clients outside it's same subnet. I'm able to connect directly to the client using their IP, but Retrospect's subnet broadcasting is not working. One possible problem suggested by Dantz is that my Firewall is blocking port 497. My Firewall Service is not runnin, but I was just wanted to know if the port could still be blocked even if the Service is turned off. The other problem may be our Switch not set to multicast, but I wanted to verify this possible problem first.

If the firewall isn't on, the port isn't blocked. It may be that no application is listening on port 497, but it isn't blocked.

Serial number blocked by firewall? How do I solve this?

When I use the server administration settings I get an error message saying the serial number could not be used because it's blocked by the firewall.
I know I'm using the right serial number.
Totally stumped.
Any ideas?

Is this a new Mac Mini Server system with a new serial number?
Is this Mac running as a guest in a virtualized configuration?
Has anytbody been working in the shell via Terminal.app in this system?
Does the Mac OS X Server firewall have the port open for port 626 under Firewall > Settings > Advanced? (It's usually listed as rule 1.)
As a potential brute-force work-around: (re)download the 10.6.8 combo update kit, and apply it, and see if that clears this.
Better: if you just acquired this Mac Mini Server system (new), ring up Apple support and ask for assistance here.

DVD sharing blocked by firewall, even though firewall says 'allow'

Under the sharing prefs. window I can select DVD/CD sharing but the light is red and says its blocked by the firewall.
In the firewall window it says DVD/CD sharing is allowed, and the light is green.
Is there another firewall somewhere?

I'm having this exact same issue. when I turn off my OSX firewall DVDsharing is "green". I just used the shared CD with my OSX firewall off, but I'll try again with the firewall on.

Making iMac a wifi hotspot and firewall

So I successfully turned my imac into a wifi hotspot for use with my ipad and iphone. However, it only seems to work if you completely disable the firewall on the imac. Surely that is not an optimal solution. Looking around on the web I found dozens of explanations how to make a wifi hotspot but nobody mentions the firewall aspect. So my question is simple: can you or can you not make a wifi hotspot on a mac desktop (imac) while preserving firewall protection on you mac.

Your iMac must be connect to a internet router by Ethernet. The Router give you all the protection you need. No need for the Mac firewall. It is only for Incoming connections anyway. Which the Router already filters.
Not sure why you are using your iMac for Wifi. Just buy a WiFi router. Internet connection sharing is so 1990s.

Photosmart 6510 Blocked By Firewall

Alright so I can't print unless my firewall is down. Which means that the firewall is blocking permission from the laptop to the printer and the other way around.
I have McAfee AntiVirius Plus and when I go to look at all the programs listed my Photosmart 6510 doesn't show up. So I need to know what files I need to add to the firewall manually.
