Canon XF 305 (hi def) footage into PE9 timeline?

I borrowed a Canon XF 305 Hi-def video camera to shoot a wedding onto CF cards.
On the compact flash cards it has the following files:
Name               Type                              Size
AA0005.CIF     CIF File                                 3 KB
AA0005.CPF    CIF File                                  1 KB
AA0005             XML Document                       1 KB
AA000501          VLC media file (.mxf)     126,152 KB
AA000501.SIF     SIF File                         1,792 KB
How do I get what I shot onto the timeline in PE9?
I no longer have the camera.
Thanks.

I don't know if the forum search is working or not,
John T.,
I think that it depends on the day of the week, or the phases of the Moon?
Maybe someday, Jive and Adobe will be able to fix Forum Search. In the "good old days," it was OK, to OK+, and then came Jive. About the time that the MOD's finally got things working with Search This Forum query boxes, Search broke and big time.

  • Mix 60i(29.97)avchd footage into Dslr 23.976 timeline

I'm using CS6. My project presets are for a DSLR at 23.976 (canon t3i). I also have a canon hf-M41. It does NOT record at 24p native, rather it records at 60i and then is transformed to 29.97 to supposedly look like 24p. Everything is exported as 29.97 from the M41 regardless of the in camera settings. When I put the M41 footage into my timeline it runs like it is in slow motion (even upon rendering). My question is how do I keep my project settings at 23.976 DSLR (because I have 2 t3i's for my main cameras) and make my M-41 footage run smoothly and be able to combine the two? From my own testing it looks like the best match upon bringing it into the DSLR timeline is setting the M41 to record at the  29.97 in camera. (probably because Premiere already naturally sees it as 29.97). I have been playing with the Adobe Media Encoder but my results have produced the same results as when I change the footage within Premiere. I am totallyM new at this and have probably opened up the Media Encoder only 4 times!(completely lost) I'm lost trying to figure out how to mix these two formats in Premiere. The T3i footage is .MOV and the M41 is .MTS (avchd). Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. I want to be able to use all three cameras for mulitcam editing but as I have told you they run "funky" together haha Thanks a lot!!- Mark

You can upconvert using Compressor. It would be BEST to have the tapes dubbed and upconverted with the use of a Terranex...or captured with a Kona 3 that can do the upconvert on the fly and still look good. But sans (without) a capture card, the best way is with Compressor. Danny_Boy and I had to mix MANY formats for a History Channel doc we did. Now we used the Terranex, but in my testing on what to go with, I found that Compressor did a decent job...it just took a LONG TIME.
Drop the clip you want to convert into Compressor. Go to the ADVANCED FORMAT CONVERSION menu option, and choose DVCPRO HD 720p24. Then click on the FRAME CONTROLS and choose CUSTOM under the FRAME CONTROL menu. Now, choose all the BEST settings for all the other menus.
NOw...shoot. You have to crop this image in order to make the 4:3 fit into a 16:9 frame...and I lost my tutorial on what numbers to put in there.
I have Droplets for Compressor 2 (FCS1) that do this for you...iffin you are interested.

  • 1080 footage in 720 timeline

    Hi,
If I drop my 1080 footage into 720 timeline, will that give me an option of scaling the footage up a bit without sacrificing too much of a quality?

cool.  If I already edited it in 1080 timeline can I now copy everything in the timeline and drop it into a new 720 timeline or do I need to start from scratch?

  • I'm trying to import some Hi8 into FCPX via a Canon GL2.  Although the footage shows up in the import window, it says "Camera not controllable".  The manual import button does activate, but footage is not actually being imported.  Any ideas?  Thanks

I'm trying to import Hi8 into FCPX via a Canon GL2.  Although the footage appears in the import window, it says camera not controllable.  The manual import buttons activate, but the footage is not actually importing.  Any ideas?  Thanks so much.

    What Tom said.
Or you may be able to import using a different program - try with Quicktime Player, "New Movie Recording". If the camera appears as an option, it should work.

  • Porblems importing Canon C300 footage into Premiere Pro CC 2014: only import 30 seconds

Hi! I'm having problems importing Canon C300 footage into Adobe Premiere Pro 2014. I'm taking the files directly from the media browser to I can only import the first 30 seconds of each clip.
Why can be that? Do I need a specific plugin?

Since you did not perform the copy process yourself, my thinking is that maybe something went wrong when it was done.  Far too many people don't understand or follow the process that works.
My recommendation would be to get your hands on the cards and do it again, making sure to use only Explorer or Finder for the task.

  • Importing Canon C300 footage into FCPX

So I shot about 100GB worth of footage on a C300. Now, when I go to import the footage into FCPX, I get the message "None of the selected files or folders can be imported. Change the selection and try again."
I've read in other threads that FCPX directly supports MXF files, and that I should just be able to import directly. However, it's not working! Anyone else deal with this or have found a solid workaround??
    - FCPX 10.1.1
    - iMac OSX 10.9.2, 3.4 GHz i5, 24 GB RAM.

Hi Chris, I use C300 footage all the time, FCPx loves it, all you have to do is install the plugin : http://learn.usa.canon.com/resources/blogs/2012/20120224_xf_plugin_fcp_x.shtml
after that you should be good to go

  • I have an old Canon Vixia HV30 in which I am unable to upload some old footage into the latest Final Cut Pro X. Any suggestions please?

My latest version of Final Cut X does not even acknowledge that I have a camera when I try and upload some old footage into a FinalCut Event that I am currently working on. Can any one recommended any suggestions? Thanks

Is the camera recognized in System Information? What computer is this? How exactly is the camera connected? What software and OS versions are you using?

  • What is the best workflow procedure for importing DV SP 16x9 footage into FCP7 and then exporting the best quality 16x9 to standard DVD so that it looks great (or at least good) on a 50" Samsung LCD TV ?????? Please help! anybody?? Thanks!

We are using a Sony HDV-Z7U camera for acquisition. We recently recorded an event using the camera's non HD capabilities. We set the camera to record "DV SP" 16x9 settings on both Mini-DV tape and CF card.
To import the DV SP footage into FCP7 we chose the "DV NTSC anamorphic" setting in the log and transfer settings window. After a successful transfer from the CF card (the CF card held approximately 83 minutes) we checked the size of the file and found it to be 16 Gigs! Why so big? An 83 miniDV tape shot in SD should easily fit on a standard 4.7 gig MPEG2 DVD.
We need to burn DVDs of this show - we sent it to compressor and got horrible quality.
What is the best setting to use in FCP7's log and transfer settings window to import DV SP 16x9 standard def. footage and what is the best method for exporting for outputting this footage to DVD that preserves the original quality of the DV SP footage?? Anyone? Many thanks

    > Why so big? An 83 miniDV tape shot in SD should easily fit on a standard 4.7 gig MPEG2 DVD.
No it doesn't. DV is 13GB per hour.
In any case, a Video DVD uses the MPEG 2 codec, not DV.
    >What is the best setting to use in FCP7's log and transfer settings window to import DV SP 16x9 standard def.
    DV NTSC anamorphic.
    >what is the best method for exporting for outputting this footage to DVD...
Use the Compressor DVD preset "Best Quality 90 mins".
    >...that preserves the original quality of the DV SP footage?
Not going to happen, you are compressing by a factor of 1:4. Shooting as HDV would have given you better quality material to start with. DV is at the bottom end of the scale.

  • What Compressor is needed for files from a Canon T2i on it's way into FCP?

    Hey internet,
I bought a Canon T2i and Final Cut Pro hoping to start off a great little film making project.
I shot a bunch of footage in 1080/720 @60fps. (hoping to get some nice slowed down shots in the future..)
The problem is, now I'm seeing all this talk about Conversion/Compression/Codecs etc. And when I'm looking at my footage (drag and dropped) into FCP it's weird sizes and takes FOREVER to render/export!
All I want is to film, import, edit, export, show to friends/family a great looking video..
What am I missing? Please give me some tips on at least where to start.
    Thanks.

<rant>I would say this is something to figure out way before you start shooting, or maybe even before buying the camera. Post-production with these DSLRs is way more complex than most people think.
Learn your tools and set up workflows before you start projects like this, or you will always end up fooling around in post-production.
One of the issues with FCP, is that you mostly can drag and drop video into the timeline, even though FCP really does not supports it properly.
Shooting everything at 60p is not really a good idea, unless you really know what you are doing. You should have planned on what shots you wanted in slow motion, and shot the rest at 24p or 30p.</rant>
On the bright side, learning from mistakes is always good
Tips 1: What you want to do before bringing DSLR video into FCP is to transcode it to ProRes 422. Try to start by using the preset called *Apple ProRes 422* in Compressor.
Tips 2: Search for DSLR FCP workflow on Google.

  • Can Apple programs use Hi Def footage to make a conventional DVD?

Hello, I am going to shoot a program on Monday that is special and that might be nice to ultimately have in Hi Def. But what about the immediate future? Since DVD Studio Pro does not burn Hi Def DVDs, and most people can't play them, I would like to initially use the footage in a standard way. Can I shoot in Hi-DEf, import into FCE, and then export to a Final Cut Movie that will be that can be imported into DVDSP to create a non-Hi-Def disc? (I am using a Sony HDR-V1 camera.) Hope my question makes sense.
    Thanks, Bob

Yes, if you use a SD DVD then both iDVD and DVDSP will convert the HD material to be SD to work on your disc.

  • How Do you import C100 footage into Premiere Pro CC

I just tried importing  Canon C100 footage into Premiere Pro CC, but get no sound. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and I pray I don't have to convert this footage before bringing it in. Is there a workflow anyone can recommend? Do I have to convert the footage first? Thanks, Lucian

    Lucian,
PrPro should work natively with the Canon C100 footage ... it works with almost everything out there. And with the C100 shooting MP-4, AVCHD, & H.264, those are all handled easily by PrPro.
My question ... I would surmise (from what little info you include) you are shooting AVCHD? The reason I say this is that format splits audio & video into different files ... so it's a bit trickier to "import" than others that have the a & v in one file. Make sure you copied the whole top-leveL FOLDER and all sub-folders (not just the footage or contents of a folder) from the cam/card into the computer for AVCHD ... and then when you import into a project via the media browser your audio & video should be all connected by PrPro.
There have been numerous threads here where AVCHD users have "lost" their audio, only to find they'd simply left it behind by NOT copying all the folders & subfolders their camera had created.

  • Ingesting xa20 slow motion footage into final cut 7 or premiere

does canon have step-by-step instructions for ingesting xa20 slow motion footage into final cut 7 or premiere?

    Hi davidframe!
    Thanks for posting.
Not having made those applications themselves, Canon does not have step-by-step instructions for bringing slow motion footage into Final Cut Pro or Premiere.  However, I am sure either Apple or Adobe have some helpful instructions they can provide if you contact them directly.

  • Reposting this - bringing dvd footage into FCP - progressive scan

I occasionally have clients that need me to bring footage into their projects from a dvd or vhs. I'm looking into getting something that can do both NTSC & PAL and I've come across this product:
    Sharp DV-NC80
    6-Head Hi-Fi Stereo VHS/S-VHS VCR & DVD, CD-R, V-CD Combo Player - Multi System, Multi Zone
My only dilemma is that the dvd player does not have progressive scan. Can anyone let me know if that should matter or not and what progressive scan is for? (I read the jagged edge article, but does progressive scan affect how FCP digitizes dvd material as well?) Thank you.

Unless you are bringing the material in via a capture card, you can't take advantage of the 480p scanrate anyway...
